There seems to always be people taking wedding photos out here near the lagoons because of how beautiful it is here. Super clean and calm lagoons with a small area for free parking and lots of other options for paid parking. Shops and restaurants within walking distance. Visiting from Las Vegas, I had the amazing opportunity to celebrate my birthday at Ko Olina Lagoon, and it could not have been more perfect! I'm not sure which lagoon number it was, but it was the very last one after all the hotels -- peaceful, scenic, and a little more tucked away, which made it feel extra special. We arrived around 9:30 a.m. on a Saturday in October, and somehow I lucked out with a free parking spot! That felt like a birthday gift in itself because parking can fill up fast on weekends. If you don't get lucky, there's also paid parking for $20 all day, which is totally reasonable for how beautiful and well-kept the area is. I had a small birthday gathering of about 25 friends and family, and we set up near the end of the lagoon so we wouldn't be in anyone's way. The space worked out perfectly -- there's a nice combination of grassy areas for lounging and sandy beach spots for setting up chairs, towels, and snacks. It never felt crowded, and everyone around us was super friendly and respectful. The water here is absolutely gorgeous, calm, and perfect for swimming or floating. Since the lagoons are protected, you don't have to worry about big waves, which makes it great for kids or anyone who just wants to relax and enjoy the ocean without getting knocked over by surf. We brought floaties and spent hours just hanging out in the water, laughing, and taking photos. Another big plus: the bathrooms and showers were clean and well maintained, which isn't always the case at popular beaches. You can tell the staff really takes care of the area. There's also plenty of trash bins, so it's easy to keep your spot tidy. As the day went on, we watched people paddle boarding, snorkeling, and even a few folks enjoying picnics under the shade. The views were breathtaking -- palm trees, soft white sand, and that classic Hawaiian blue ocean stretching out to the horizon. It's the kind of place that makes you stop and just appreciate being in paradise. By sunset, the sky turned gold and pink, and it was honestly the perfect ending to a perfect day. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday -- peaceful, fun, and full of aloha spirit. If you're visiting Oahu and want a relaxing beach experience away from the crowds of Waikiki, Ko Olina Lagoon is an absolute must. If you're on the west side of Oahu then this is the best family friendly beach around. With 4 man made lagoons to choose from, calm waters for paddleboarding, swimming, and snorkeling this place has it all. There's a 2 mile jogging path that goes around the resort areas and the grounds are well maintained. Parking can get tricky as the few lagoon spots fill out fairly quickly. They moved to a paid parking system that requires a cell phone. There's signs. There are not super clear that you have to pay before you leave your car and go to the beach. It's bad enough you have to pay $22, but if you don't pay quick enough then it's $81. Ignore the signs for the free parking that says don't queue up. Queue up. Word is out. What was once one of the best kept secrets on the west side of Oahu is now common knowledge to locals and tourists alike. Parking is horrendous. Don't even try visiting the lagoons (written sarcastically). The sunsets here are the same as all over the west side of Oahu (written sarcastically). Too many rules (true story). You can't barbecue. You can't pitch a tent or umbrella. You can't tailgate at the lot. Paid parking is expensive. Free parking is overrated if you have to wait an hour to get into the lot in hopes of finding an empty stall. SO beautiful! If you're looking for a calm and relaxing spot, this is definitely it. The water was super blue, the sun was bright, sand white, and the palm trees added that perfect serene touch. I love that the lagoon was family friendly, and you didn't have to worry about big waves crashing into you. We were visiting from Aulani, so we grabbed some drinks and some foods and explored the area. There are plenty of rental beach chairs and accessories if you want to spend a day relaxing. Fast forward to adult hood and every time we come home to visit, I have to come here. It's just so much more peaceful than the Ala Moana/Waikiki side. It is a touch hotter, so grab some shade. But man, just lounging around listening to the waves is just too awesome. Free parking is tough to find, but, if you're good to spend money then there are ample spaces. Water temp is perfect, shore break is very mild since there are breaks outside the lagoon. You can swim to the rocks if you like. Not much in the way of fish. Come here for peace. read more

I see that there are 4 different types of Ko'Olina Lagoon, which I did not know about... but looking at the photos, this was the one that looks like the one I stayed at so I shall leave my review here. A beach day at the Ko'Olina Lagoons is an absolute must. It's a peaceful escape from the busy city life of Waikiki and Honolulu, and there are resorts here that make me reminisce Maui a little bit. The parking for this lagoon is connected to a bunch of hotels and resorts and parking CAN get limited and tight, so make sure to plan accordingly. The lagoon is so peaceful and the waves are not strong because it's a lagoon so it's the perfect way to relax. I didn't get into the waters -- I ended up taking a nap in the shade and did some sun tanning but that itself did justice to explain how great my day was here. Once I have the time (and the money), I would love to take my family here for a resort trip. None of that touristy stuff, but just to solely relax and I guess check out the other three lagoons that they have here... but overall -- we had a great stop here! read more

Who doesn't absolutely love the Ko'olina Lagoons? I love coming here to relax and swim, and it's a perfect family-friendly destination. There are a few drawbacks that prevent us from coming here ALL the time, and I'm sure they are all over the Yelp reviews -- parking is difficult, especially on weekends. You can't use your own umbrella/tent/shade (which is weird to me, but I think they want you to rent an umbrella/beach chair from the resort), you can't fly a kite, and there' not a whole lot of shade. However, if you go on a weekday, get there early, get lucky with parking and find a spot in the shade, you will have a perfect day at the beach. The water is calm and inviting. You can snorkel and see a fair amount of colorful tropical fish. It's protected from the open ocean, so you don't have to worry about getting swept away. It's a truly idyllic setting. I've been here by myself, with my husband, with friends, family members, and we all enjoy our time here every time. When we have extra time and aren't in a rush, we like to stop by the gift shops on the drive out. They have cute boutiques, ice cream shops, etc. Enjoy your time at the lagoons! If you can't get parking, don't give up. Either come back later, wait, or try another time. You won't be disappointed! read more

Lagoon 1b Great picturesque beach views, grass or sand areas for laying on the beach without being overly crowded. Parking is limited but if you're lucky, you can get a parking spot if someone is leaving. The lagoon is shallow and calm so it's not that big of a risk but, there is no lifeguard on duty so swim at your own experience level. Most of the tourists are at this lagoon so it is usually more crowded (but not "Waikiki crowded") than the others. Here, you can also rent kayaks and other beach equipment. Repeat after me, "there are no private beaches on Oahu". While there are super expensive resorts right here you can go and enjoy the beach/lagoon. Expect parking to be full fast and early in the morning. You will pay for that. Expect lots of tourists visiting and staying at the resorts. There is a walking path connecting the 4 "numbered" lagoons that goes along the back of the resorts and lagoons. You will undoubtedly will see a wedding or two on the green grass field of one resort, by the chapel, or see a bride and groom taking pictures by the small lagoon just past the Four Seasons. Beautiful spot to chill, swim, watch the sun set, grab a drink, have dinner, etc. There are 4 lagoons. The parking in the lagoon lots is very limited if you aren't staying at one of the hotels. Maybe 15-20 spaces in each lot. You can also park in the lot across the street where Monkeypod is located. No wake or current in the lagoons makes for very enjoyable swimming but for fun and sport. There's a paved walkway between the lagoons if you don't want to commit to just one. Be sure to move your parked car by dusk or you will be locked in the lot. read more

We enjoy coming to the lagoons at Ko'Olina. I believe there are 4 open to the public. But lagoon 1 has 1A and 1B parking lots I think. Although parking is the only downside. The stalls fill up fast and early so you're there just waiting outside the new installed gate until someone leaves. Or you can pay for parking at a resort nearby or pay at the boat harbor parking lot. Lagoon 4 has the most stalls. It's a very family friendly beach with calm waters and scattered shady areas. There are restrooms and showers. No soap, shampoo or conditioner use allowed. The showers are timed so it turns off quickly but you just have to keep pressing the button until your fully rinsed off. We haven't been to Ko'olina beach in over 10 years, and we remembered how beautiful it was. So, we returned to enjoy the afternoon here. It was a nice and sunny day, and we were able to get free parking in their lot. The beach was just a small hill away. We settled on a shaded area spot, and we went swimming in one of their lagoons. The water was calm, and the sand was mostly soft. There were some rocky areas. But, it was still a relaxing experience. The beach was beautiful and I loved how the sunlight hit the water. We easily spent a couple of hours here. They also have good restrooms with toilet paper, toilet covers, wall hooks in the stalls for your bags/clothes, and soap/water - all important when you're soaking wet from swimming. I always enjoy going to KoOlina. The water is always calm for my daughter to play. I think we parked in the last lagoon prking lot. We got there early so we didnt have to wait long. Maybe 20 mins. Fyi... when parking in the lagoon please wait behind the cars at the entrance. People wait until cars leave the. Pull forward. I saw a few people cut in front and they were asked to leave the parking spot because others were waiting in line. We walked over to the lagoon near the marriott. We got an awesome spot under a tree and my daughter played for hours in the water. She even met a few friends. The water was the perfect temp but it was kind of dirty (gunk and bandaids) yuck!! #28 for 2018 The Ko'Olina Lagoons are man made. There are 4 lagoons in total. Unofficically, there are 6 but this review includes the 4 lagoons. Each one has it's own parking lot. The 4th lagoon parking is the largest and easiest to get parking. During the weekends, it can be tough to get a spot. You can park, for $10, in the yacht harbor parking. Validated parking is available for at the hotels there. Some are free, some will still have cost. The parking lots close at sunset. Read the signs before parking. Lagoon #4 has more areas that offer shade from the trees. These get occupied quickly by large families or gatherings. Sometimes I'll occupy an area very close. I had no problems doing this. We remain respectful of each other and my stuff is watched. Sometimes we chit chat to break the awkwardness. It's all cool. These days I come here often to walk. It's about 1.25 miles the full length. I like doing 5miles around the time the sun sets. It's a nice motivator to keep going. Snorkeling is good. Sometimes it's hard when it gets murky or the jellyfish show up. You can see some fish. You might get lucky to see a monk seal.. It's also possible to see some eagle rays too. You just never know what you can see until you get in. LoL There are no life guards. Be careful where you walk. There are signs posted to not go beyond but that gets ignored. Be careful by the rocks when the tide is high and rougher. Saw one person getting wheeled out once. Too rough maybe. The hotels offer several eateries and bars to enjoy the beach view or sunset. There will be a handful to your liking. You can walk from their property straight onto the beach. Nice. I still find the best sunset pics on the beach especially from Lagoon #1 on the left side. read more

Man made lagoons surrounding the Ko' olina resorts. Summer weather hot and sunny with some clouds. The lagoons were open two weekends ago when I went. The parking lots and resorts are still closed, parking was quite a hassle. Ended up parking a bit of far from the lagoons, but ended up getting a sticker warning to move my vehicle. There is really no place to park while enjoying the calm waves and clear skies. Now the beaches are closed till Sep 5th due to rising number of positive Covid cases, hardly any outdoor activities to do. read more

What a pretty place. The water is crystal clear and warm. Parking can be an issue, but it was free, and they have an electronic sign when you drive in to tell you which lots are full. This is actually a resort, but the lagoons are open to the public. There is a golf course. And some shops, and food places. There are 4 man made lagoons here. We ended up at lagoon #4. There were many trees where you could set your blanket down under and find shade. It wasn't too crowded, however we did go during the week. There are bathrooms which is great, and an outdoor shower to rinse off. This is a good place to bring your family and kids. You can even try snorkeling. I love the lagoons at Ko'Olina. I guess I haven't been to this first to lagoon in a while. It has changed tremendously since the four seasons opened. I normally choose my lagoon on where I find parking. As I enter Ko'Olina resort, I make the first right at the light and I check out each lagoon until I find parking space. I lucked out on this trip, I found parking right away at the first lagoon. Lagoons are a great place to bring family specially little children. I had my niece and dog with me on this trip. When we walked down I noticed The beach was covered with beach chairs and Umbrellas And there was a roped off area separating the Disney hotel in the season four seasons. And in between that roped off area which was very small , was for non-guest of the hotels. And or You could sit in the grassy area. The area of Sand that they allowed for non-gas was also the walkway and where they stored there canoe. I sat in one of the chars on the "Four Seasons" side and they ask me to leave. 90% of the their chairs where empty. Wow, has this place changed. We found a place that we were happy and we had a great time. But we will not be going to that Logan again. And I guess that's what they want. Oh, and I guess dogs aren't allowed at the lagoons??? I saw another dog there when I arrived. But when we were leaving someone mentioned to me that dogs are not allowed. The normally ask you to leave. Ko'Olina is on my list of my favorite beaches, but I'll be removing lagoon #1 off of that list. read more

This review is for Lagoon 1A. Of all the lagoons, this one is the most unwelcoming for locals. The hotel staff (particularly the Four Seasons) is rude while constantly monitoring the chairs on the beach. Usually my family and I frequent Lagoon 4 because of the parking situation, but today I scored a stall in the very first turn. Lucky, I thought... However, it became apparent that being local made us unwanted at this part of the lagoons. First, we sat on chairs that we didn't know were for guests only (there are no signs that designate the area). Second, it's not the fact that we aren't allowed to sit there, but the way we were told was very off-putting. We were there for a good while (at least an hour) before anyone came around to hassle us, so my son had fallen asleep. The worker who was kicking us off didn't care and said in a very sassy tone in front of actual hotel guests and my daughter, "I know, he's sleeping, but you're going to have to wake him up now. These chairs are for guests of the Four Seasons only." There were so many vacant chairs left that I don't understand why she couldn't have used some descretion and just let him lie on the one chair until he got up. After that, the workers kept coming to check that we weren't going back on the chairs. I guess, this is how locals get treated on public beaches now, auwe! read more

Very calm beautiful lagoon for a relaxing time if staying at the resorts. A great place to relax and get a good tan. You get the beach chairs and umbrellas if staying at Disney. The water is very calm and it's a good place to bring kids without the fear of the waves taking you away. Nice grassy area and some shade. When we visited they held events here and closed off a section of the beach. But it's a tourist beach so they tend to have events here and do some fireworks. read more

The pristine lagoons of Ko'Olina are further testament to the beauty that can be created by modern-day man. Although the area is comprised of 4-major man-made lagoons, I hit up only one (Kohola) which shares the beachfront with Disney's Aulani Resort and the Marriott's Ko'Olina Beach Club. Arriving in the late afternoon on a weekday, free parking was no problem in the nearby "Public Access" lot. From the parking lot, it was a quick walk to an immaculate, calm, rock-protected lagoon with a sandy bottom. The beach in front of the two resorts (and a beautiful looking glass wedding chapel) is filled with the resort's chaise lounges but you're free to spread your towel on the sand, swim in the lagoon, or jump off the small floating dock along with a zillion little kids. If you're not too blatant about it, you might even be able to re-purpose a couple towels left behind by resort patrons and commandeer a couple of chaise lounges for your own use (like I did). Despite the presence of the resorts, the beach and water were uncrowded and quiet. In addition to the inviting, wave-free beachfront there's a sidewalk/path to traverse, lots of well-kept grass, and well-maintained restrooms and showers. The sign in the public parking lot indicates that they close at sunset as do the lagoons, technically. Sunset though, is the perfect time to slip into the Aulani (this is on the up-and-up) and have a cocktail. Our car was still there when we returned past dark. In the future I'd come back to check out the remaining lagoons which can, apparently, all be walked to from here. Looking for that beautiful beach that is family friendly? Look no further! Ko'olina Lagoons are beautiful beaches that are clean and perfect for the kids with no big waves or currents. There are a total of 4 lagoons and it depends on the day which one we go to. If you want to do paddle boarding, kayaking, and be around the hotel crowd, lagoon 1 and 2 would be perfect for you. We tend to favor lagoon 3 beacause we like the grass umbrella to sit under, and it tends to be less crowded. The beaches all have public restrooms and outdoor showers to rinse off. It doesn't get deep quickly at any of the lagoons to keep it safe for the kids. There are many places to eat as you leave the lagoons. Mokeypod Kitchen, Two Scoops Ice Cream, Sushi, Pizza, Coffee....you name it! Just be prepared, parking fills up quick! read more
