I really liked bringing my cat here for the last couple years & the owner has always been super sweet. However, after our most recent visit I will not be returning. I took my cat a couple days ago for a routine nail trim which we have always been charged $30 for. After the service was done she brought the card reader over and I see it says $60. I'm sorry $60?! I was in shock so all I said was "is this the correct price?" And she replied with "yes our prices increase every year."My mom (who had scheduled the appt) called after and was told we were still being charged $30 each time out of courtesy as returning clients even though prices did go up every year. I still don't think this is right. When this appointment was scheduled it would've been nice to disclose the double price increase beforehand. Like maybe $10 but $30?? Very drastic. That's just not practical. I'm sorry but $60 is straight robbery for such a simple service as nail trimming is. read more

This was the 2nd worst Hair cut/ Groom my puppy Buddy has ever experienced both times at this awful disgusting place I wouldn't even call it a Pet Groomer! April 23rd, 2024 at 11am we took little Buddy who will be 2 years old next month in for a Groom. They claim to wash, trim/cut, brush and clean his teeth, trim his nails, clean his ears, and express his anal glands all in one visit. Not to mention they hold the dogs for 6 hours or more. He is my first dog so all of this is new to me, however the first time I took him in he just turned 1 and so I decided it was time for his first groom. When we dropped him off I explained in person and over the phone while making the appointment how I wanted him trimmed! We set up a photo shoot for afterwards since it was his very first Trim and Grooming apt which was special and huge for us considering he is my first dog. When we got there to pick him up, I was in such shock, and I was so sad because he dd not look like the same dog at all. They disscussed with me over the phone if we wanted a razor or scissor trim/cut. I said scissor Trim, so his hair grows back normal for his bread. They went against what I asked for and did the Razor Groom instead. They cut off all his whiskers which I was not talked about and I never asked for his Whiskers to be trimmed in the first place. Therefore, because I didn't ask and they didn't specify then his whiskers should have been left alone. I was in such shock, when I got there to pick him up, I was sad and super disappointed. He looked and acted like he was severly beaten and Tramatized to say the least. Buddy is a mini schnauzer terrier mix breed. I wasn't happy but was nice and went through with the photo shoot we had set up for the end anyways. My optimistic happy cheerful attitude just ignored most of these red flags. I was so traumatized from the first grooming appointment for Buddy that it took me a whole year to take him to get groomed again. I decided since he went to BARBIE PET SALON before, why not try it one more time?!!! He's now 2 years old and when I took him on April 23rd, 2024 at 11 AM they finally called me at 4 o'clock letting me know that he was done and ready for pick up, 5 HOURS LATER!!!! They did the same thing the first time over 5-6 hours for a grooming appointment? That is way too long for a dog to be groomed!! $150-$210 is the going rate here for a 6 hour dog day care/ more like ABUSE SHELTER. Where do they go to the bathroom? While the dogs are there that many hours, do they get water or fead? We were going to take him to Barbie Pet Salon for the second time before Easter, but they were booked out so we wound up calling around other groomers to see if they had availability. Nobody had availability, so we wound up calling, Petco and were able to make him an appointment, but it was raining that day, so we decided to cancel it not wanting to do this in the rain. In doing this research and calling around other places, I found that in fact BARBIE PET SALON doesn't ask for PROOF OF VACCINATIONS and RABIES SHOTS for ANY OF THE DOGS THAT GO AND GET GROOMED HERE!!! So, I quickly realized the PROOF OF VACCINATIONS and how BARBIE PET SALON doesn't require that proof right after I picked him up 5 hours later it being his second appointment. Then I realized my Puppy could pick up deiseases and infections while being there. This means that dogs could pick up diseases from other dogs while there for many hours a day. When I got him the second time, I noticed that he had razor burns and cut marks on his genital area that clearly looked like razor burn, cut marks, and bleeding. The area had such bad razor and cut marks it was gushing with green puss and he wouldn't stop licking that area!!! I am now beyond traumatized, and I probably won't be getting him groomed at all from here on out. Another thing that's a bit concerning is how they have a tall white wall covering the back area where the animals are actually getting groomed but no one can see their dogs or any of the animals getting groomed whatsoever. I now have to take him to the vet tomorrow to check out these wounds on his genital area and to make sure he isn't hurt in any other area of his body that I can't see! I also feel they STEAL SPERM from dogs and are POSSIBLY running a PUPPY MILL out the back, TURING DOGS AND PUPPIES OUT FOR PROFIT!! Why else are the dogs and animals there for such LONG PERIODS!! read more

we took our puppy in for her first cut. I gave instructions for what I wanted. Not what I got. Be sure you bring in a picture of what you want, The puppy's "bangs" were chopped off. and her beard is too short, very graduated and noticeably bluntly chopped. Now her face appears smooshed. She said she could not do a body cut bc of her hair type (puppy hair) . It was $100 for this "cut" Nothing was discussed up front on price, that's my fault. This was the worst bath & brush grooming appointment my dog Oyster has ever received. Please see the pictures of Oyster's belly after his first and last visit to Barbie's pet salon. He isn't moving, other than to try to self heal by licking the red, very raw skin due to razor burn on his belly. I specifically told Shiva and the receptionist to NOT shave out the single mat he had, but they ignored my request and did so anyway. I have spent over $200 in products (oral and topical medications and ointments, a cone, a vet visit etc.) so far to heal this grooming catastrophe. The amount of time, energy, and money I am now spending due to oyster's visit to Barbie's for a professional bath & brush-only appointment, let alone Oyster's pain and discomfort, is ridiculous. When I called to let Shiva know all of the above, she immediately became defensive, unapologetic about shaving his belly against my strict request not to, unapologetic about NOT telling me that a severe skin abrasion occurred when I picked up Oyster, and further claimed that this severe razor burn was "not grooming related." Oyster's previous bath and brush with a different groomer was 1.5wks ago. So, this was not a crazy mat. I have dealt with mats like this before with scissors and a brush no problem. And I requested no shaving because I was specifically worried about razor burn. We have been to Barbie's several times. It has been OK , but very expensive. We have a mini Aussie. This last time (right before Easter) they kept him for a long time. We finally called after 4 hours and they said he was ready. I feel they kept him because you could see his red razor burns. I could have cried. We asked for a trim. They thinned his hair , not appropriate for his breed, nor asked for. When he came home I could see spots so thin and red. I will never go there again. Do not take your pet here. The owner does not listen to your preferences. We took our bernedoodle and specifically asked them NOT to shave our dog, but they did anyways AND they charged us the most money any groomer ever has. $165 to SHAVE our dog, which we could have done at home for free. We were beyond shocked when we picked him up because he looked like an entirely different dog. See photos for reference. We had been taking him to Omar's but was unable to get in this time due to our schedules, so we thought we would try somewhere new. We brush him every other day, and we understand that some mattes need to be shaved off, but no other place has done this. We have been a proud customer of Barbies pet Salon going on 5 years now! I can not tell you enough my gratitude for finding Barbies Pet Salon for our Malchi (Maltese/Chihuahua) who was almost 3 at the time (she's 8 now)... We had been to other groomers in the Santa Barbra/ Goleta area and just never found a good fit for our girl. We dealt with crazy prices, rudeness and not getting what we asked for all the time. Then one day walking through La Cumbre Plaza we saw this adorable little shop and thought Wow this place is amazing.. we walked in thinking it would be difficult to schedule an appointment. Shiva greeted us with a huge smile and informed us all about her Salon and let us know All the wonderful options we had. It was right before Christmas and our regular groomer canceled our appointment. Shiva got us in that same week. I couldn't believe what an amazing job she did. Trixzy was very happy and not sad and timid like she would be at pick up from her last place. We took full advantage of the cutest photo booth set up there to take photos to commemorate her look and her experience. We knew we found a home at Barbies and never looked back. The love she has for her job is reflected in our girls. We now have a 2nd dog....a Yorkie mix. I drop them off together and pick them up together. They love Shiva and her staff... we love Shiva and her staff. Im so surprised how and why this place is still in business. The frickin lady took like 6 HOURS to cut my dogs hair. Small dog too ! I had to call like three different times to make sure he was okay. When I did pick him up it was quite literally the worst cut ever. It looked like she cut him in 3 seconds blindfolded. I swear! &. Then she had the nerve to say " he's too old!" Like wtf super insensitive unprofessional owner . Someone needs to see what she's actually doing with these dogs. I took my baby snowball here for his haircut. He usually gets a haircut once a month but I let it grow for about two months. I asked for a trim, clean up of his butt and underbelly, and a rounded face. I feel like she did a good job but I was hoping it was going to be a little shorter and I saw a little extra uneven hairs sticking up. I felt like the price was a little expensive for just a little trim. He came out really happy (he loves being pampered) and looked so bright With his soft white coat. Absolutely adored this place! The person who helped me was so kind, friendly and really tried to get to know my dog before grooming. I had de-matted my dog myself but had completely butchered her haircut and so when I took her in they were super understanding and kind! They evened out her hair really well and they even put little bows in her hair. When she left she was very happy and showed no signs of distress. I will definitely be returning here again. When I first walked in The decor looked great and the girl behind the counter was very pleasant. I was expecting something special for the price that they charge and the experience they say they have. Well, quite honestly, it was a disaster. Firstly, i have two little 4 pound Yorkies who are used to being groomed and are very good about it. I took them in at 11.30 am and was asked to collect them at 6 pm. I should have realized right then that something wAs wrong but in my usual optimistic fashion I thought it was because they were doing a careful job. When I went to pick them up the initial impression was that they looked ok. They were so excited to see me it was hard to tell. It was late and rainy and I only really noticed the horror that my little Yorkies ear had been cut off completely at the tip on oNce I got home. No wonder it took them so long. They were probably trying to stop the bleeding !! I had actually iNSTRUCTED them NOT TO CUT THE HAIR AT ALL ON HER EARS. She has long silky blond hair on her ears and I was growing it. I instructed them to dye the hair pink blue and yellow, showing them a picture so there would be no misunderstanding. What I got was purple and red which looks like blood on her ear. Perhaps they were trying to disguise the fact the tip of her ear was cut off. The lies they told me to try and cover up what had happened were that a grass seed was in her ear which was obviously a lie. There was nothing wrong with my dogs ear when I took it in and they were not supposed to cut the hair on her ears at all. The other dogs hair was all choppy and uneven. You could see her skin through some areas and she looked shabby. They were supposed to tip her ears Yorkie style but didn't cut her ears ( thank goodness) I can honestly say this was the worst cut I have ever had at any dog groomer. The cover-up lies were just ridiculous. I will never go there again and would not recommend these lying amateurs to anyone. read more

From standard poodles to Schnauzers, California to Washington state, I have required the skills of a groomer for 45 years. Shiva is the best of the best. My dogs are NOT stressed after spending a few hours at her salon. Their faces are groomed to bring out their best features. Ears, nails, tail - everything is done to perfection. And they smell great too (we request no perfume, the light fragrance is from the shampoo). Usually my dogs into sitdown lockdown when I reach the door of a grooming salon. At Barbie's the walk right up to the door with tail up and ears in eager position. I can't recommend her highly enough. I really really wanted to like this place but the first time I brought my dog here they gave her a clipper burn by her underarm that turned into a scab. I decided to give them a second chance bc accidents happen. However, the second time I brought my dog in they cut her hair way too close to her skin right by her eye (see pictures). They didn't even say anything when I picked her up and I didn't notice until I was putting my dog in the car and she was within eye level. They do good haircuts but I don't want to worry about my dog getting hurt in the process. Especially when my dog already finds grooming very stressful and this place is more expensive than any other place that I've taken her to. NOT GOOD Jake, a bichon/poodle mix, was scheduled for a 10 a.m. grooming on Thursday. As we are now in the Corona virus crisis mode, I called on both Tuesday and Wednesday inquiring as to whether the appointment was still on. Left messages ... which were not responded to. Called early on Thursday morning. No answer. Then I get a call at 10:20 a.m. - "We're here if you want to bring Jake in." I agree to do so and request that NO SCENTED PRODUCTS be used on the dog, as I have allergies related to such. I was assured that request would be honored. Two hours after delivering Jake, I retrieved him. Shiva had done a good job with grooming, HOWEVER Jake reeked of scented product. I am now dealing with the ensuing headache from the smell. And will likely be dealing with it for the next number of weeks. I don't know whether my request never made it to Shiva OR whether it was ignored. Email communication with her had her stating that it was probably her perfume that I was smelling. Jake's entire coat was scented. Hard to believe it was just her perfume ... ??? In addition to MY issues with the scents involved, Jake has been lethargic and his appetite has diminished. Strong odors like perfumes can have a detrimental effect on some dogs as their olfactory system is much more sensitive than humans. Shiva offered to have me bring Jake back the next day for ANOTHER bath. One bath is stressful enough for an elderly dog. Two baths in two days is really not good for them. And another bathing should have been unnecessary. All Shiva had to do was simply respect the request and wishes of the dog owner. She clearly could not manage that. In short, there are better options for dog groomers in the area. read more
