Barcade is a unique experience that combines retro arcade games and bar drinks and food ! There's no table service so you'll have to put food orders thru the bar and take your number to the table you want. The game selection varied from Wrestling to Alien (the movie) and everything in between! I ordered the nachos with chicken. It was a good portion to share and had a lot of flavor ! My only suggestion to barcade staff is that they need to be mindful of the conversations they're having near paying costumers. I had to move from the bar to a table bc I was getting grossed out listening to the staff talk about their ...."personal" lives and experiences to say the least. Just be a bit more professional. It is about time to give this place a review! My partner and I come here at least a few times a month (maybe even weekly at this point). There are so many fun retro arcade games like pinball machines, pac-man, asteroids, racing games, and so much more. And all the games are only 25¢ or 50¢, so so cheap!! You could bring 10 bucks, cash them in for tokens, and be there for at least an hour. The vibes on weekend nights are super great. It's busy but not too busy. They also have drinks and appetizers foods for normal price. I always get a downeast cider and they are yummy. Finally visited this Barcade location! What a great place. The ambiance is great - there's plenty of games but also adequate room to hang out without feeling squished into the place. Their beer list was also awesome - a good variety! They also had a non-alcoholic beer (or was it a cider?). Love that! Of course the games were amazing - we had a great time. Fun way to spend a Friday night! We decided to come here after our dinner in New Haven and had a great time. I like how you can easily redeem cash for tokens here at various locations- very easy. There's a nice variety of games especially old school ones. I loved playing dig dug & Galactica. I also loved how they had a 4 person pac man game too. Bar was a cool perk and had a lot of beers on draft. It was pretty easy to get a drink. All in all on a Friday night it was a good time! Barcade is a small franchise of craft beer bars and classic video arcades that opened in Brooklyn, New York in October 2004. It was founded by business partners Paul Kermizian, Pete Langway, and brothers Kevin & Scott Beard. All of them had attended Syracuse University together. Prior to opening Barcade, Kermizian was working in the film/TV industry and had just completed and directed a documentary called "American Beer" in which he and some friends had a road trip across the country visiting different craft breweries. The Beard Brothers were working in graphic design while Langway was working in advertising. Together they often spent time drinking craft beer and playing classic 1980s arcade games which lined the walls of Kermizian's loft. Inspired to open a bar which focused on both things, they all promptly quit their day jobs, maxed out their credit cards, and began turning their dream into a reality. They acquired a former metal shop in Brooklyn's Williamsburg neighborhood and soon transformed it into Barcade. After opening, it was met with immediate acclaim. The partners soon trademarked the name 'Barcade' and today there are nine locations around the country. Each location features 40 to 75 arcade cabinets and pinball machines as well as 25 to 30 craft beers on draught. The New Haven location opened in May 2016. I recently stopped in at New Haven's Barcade after spending most of the day cycling. I arrived not long after they opened for the evening. I have been here several times since their opening weekend and it is one of my favorite craft beer bars in the city. Unlike the original location in Brooklyn, Barcade New Haven has a full food menu consisting of sandwiches, salads, and various appetizers. I was pretty hungry so I ordered the "Fat Whaler" (8 oz burger, clam strips, chowder cheese sauce, french fries, all in a sub roll) with a side of Hand Cut Fries. This was a monster sandwich but it was very tasty! It washed down well with a draught poor of Burlington Beer Company's "It's Complicated Being a Wizard" (Double IPA). Afterwards I ordered a pour of Captain Lawrence Brewing's "MOOD: DESIRE" (Hazy New England IPA) which had excellent dank and tropical notes! It paired well with some rounds of 'Rampage', 'Mario Brothers', 'Donkey Kong', 'Quick & Crash', and 'Stranger Things' Pinball. As always, I had a fun time at Barcade and I'll be back again and again. read more

This place is SUPER fun! My boyfriend and I came here and had such a great time trying some drinks abs playing the games. We came at a good/not busy time which really made a difference, there was little wait for the games so I suggest coming in the early afternoon if you're looking for that type of vibe. Towards the evening more college age kids came and it turned into more of a bar vibe - which was also fun! Boy obviously not everyone's vibe. While there isn't much about games that really grab me, I will say that the beer list at Barcade was unexpectedly large and had lots of beers I was interested in trying. That being said, the beer and the games vie for attention with the patrons here, so it doesn't have the most holistic feeling. Maybe that's what irked me a little. For those of us hanging out by the bar, there's nothing particularly exciting except the extensive beer list and, hey, that should be enough. The taps seem to rotate a lot, but there's a good variety of styles at any given moment. Seems a little grungy inside. Maybe that's because the lights are a little low. And, well, all the writing on the bathroom walls. Buffalo tater tots were exactly how you'd expect - though perhaps a notch above that since it was carried off so well. That being said, most arcade games won't obviously don't accommodate more than 4, so I'd plan around that if you're coming as something like a group of 5. I did get a paloma at one point, and it tasted like nothing else but watered-down tequila which was very disappointing. That being said, it's very obvious that unless you're very into retro arcade games there isn't anything else to do here. Your 2 options here are to play the games or to sit at the bar where the arcade players will constantly bump you around to order their drinks. Really nice selection of beers on draft and the food is decent, nothing to write home about but that's not really the point of Barcade is it. This is a great place to kill a time before or after going out for drinks or dinner in New Haven. Its a fairly small place so you'll work through the games in an hour or two but they have a really nice selection of single and multiplayer games to choose from. Been to a few Barcades and so far I find the traffic here is much better compared to the ones in the city which pre-covid were cramped and difficult to get around in. That being said I'm sure this place gets busy but every time i've gone its been manageable and comfortable and that will get zero complaints from me. Whether its the start of the night, the night or the end its always fun to stop by and never gets old. Already looking forward to the next visit. read more

Brought my boyfriend here as a surprise for his 28th birthday, and to both our surprise, this place is super legit. I'm talkin alllll the best old school pieces! Bring cash, so you can cash in for coins. They act like quarters, 25¢ is one coin. Most need 3-4 coins each to play. The drinks weren't the greatest. I had to ask about three different drinks in order for her to be able to make something because their selection is extremely limited. After that, she took an attitude. If you're in to retro games, beers and mediocre food, this is your place! The token system is the best I've seen, its actually quarter per token, I've been to some where its one dollar a token. The beer selection is actually pretty good, they have a lot of local beers on tap, which is always a great thing to see. Stubborn beauty is always delicious! I was not impressed with there garlic & parm wings, wayyy over cooked. The fish tacos, if not for the spicy tartar sauce it would have no flavor at all. The buffalo Cauliflower tasted a little underdone, the breading was soggy which threw us off with the taste of them. The grilled chicken breast was ok, the fries were soggy and oily. Condition for machines was solid, though the overall ambiance dulled in comparison with with the coziness of Arcadia National Bar up in Portland or bustling brewery feel of Aeronaut Brewing's space in Boston. Barcade is a great place for a chill night out in the city! I could easily spend hours here. A few friends and I came on a Saturday night and there was a large crowd at the bar and around the space playing games. There's a large draft list to choose from, and the bartender took the time to answer my questions and even provide samples, despite how busy it was. We didn't try any food, but I saw a few plates of wings around and they looked good! As for ambiance, it's pretty dark which can make it hard to read the rules or buttons for some of the games. The bar also has a grungy, dirty feel to it, but maybe that's part of the charm. As for the games themselves, you need to buy tokens to play and the token machine is cash only --so make sure to bring a few bills with you if you want to play! A token is equal to 25 cents and each game takes 1-2 tokens, so you can get a good number of plays with just a few bills. With throwbacks like Super Mario, Mortal Kombat, Metal Slug and more, Barcade is sure to make you nostalgic! Whether your first stop before hitting the town, last stop to wind down for the night, or even as the main event, Barcade is a gem. Check it out! read more

I'm giving this 3 stars because the games are super fun. The bar service is horribly slow. We were standing at the bar for a good 15mins before someone came over to take our order, and when we first arrived it wasn't even that busy. The burger I ordered I wasn't a fan of. It was too pink inside for my liking, the bacon was cold, soggy, and the coloring of it looked off, but I wasn't going to send it back because the service was so slow anyway. Went for the first time last Saturday with friends and had a great time. It wasn't very crowded for a Saturday night, but still busy. When you walk in you see a wide variety of retro arcade games and a small bar. We headed for the bar to grab a few drinks. If you have at least a $25 check you can get your parking validated at the nearby parking garages (We parked at the crown street garage and walked). The drinks were great and reasonably priced. You do need cash to obtain tokens to play the games, I completely forgot, but was able to use the ATM and break down my $20 for smaller bills. The games were 1-3 tokens per play. They had multiple pinball machines, one player games and multiple player games. I saw Donkey Kong, Teenage mutant ninja turtles, Tetris, Ms. Pac-Man, Frogger, Mortal Kombat, racing games, and shooting games. I didn't have to wait for any game longer than a minute or two.
