Odie's Place is a neighborhood bar & grill that opened in Hamden, Connecticut in 2013. It was founded by business partners Elias Defaranos and Dan Carr. Occupying a space that had previously been home to the old Whitney Bar & Grille for a number of years, Odie's Place is a popular watering hall for Hamden residents as well as college students from nearby Quinnipiac University. Many have called it "Hamden's Hideaway". A popular menu item is their unique spin on New Haven-style pizza, with specialty options such as "Macaroni & Cheese" or "Reuben Pizza". Aside from the pizza, the menu also consists of calzones, stuffed breads, burgers, hot dogs, wraps, subs, soups, salads, various bar bites, and desserts. My family and I recently ordered take-out from Odie's Place. A co-worker of mine knows that I'm a pizza connoisseur and recommend that I give Odie's a try. I've driven and cycled by Odie's for years and never really noticed that it was there. It truly is a hidden gem. We decided to order five small pizzas so we could sample a nice variety. I picked them up in person and noticed that the bar had a steady crowd of regulars coming in for pizza and drinks. The bar is equipped with pool tables, a couple of arcade cabinets, shuffleboard, and giant flat screen TVs. The different pizzas that we tried out included "Pepperoni", "Margherita" (white with tomato, basil, garlic), "Mashed Potato with Bacon", "Macaroni & Cheese", and "Clam Casino" (white with bacon, garlic, roasted peppers). Overall, we were pleasantly surprised with the pizzas. Crispy crust with a good amount of char, super thin, good sauce & cheese combo, and great toppings! My personal favorite was the "Clam Casino". I think that Odie's Place is one of the best kept secrets in Hamden and I would love to eat their pizza again in the future!

I went to ODs last night and couldn't be any more disappointed. I think that the bartenders need to realize when patrons need to be shut off from the bar. Everybody was extremely intoxicated and disrespectful. I honestly will never go here again.

Odie's is a great hole-in-the-wall hangout that just happens to have the best pizza in town. Lots of regulars. Bartenders and servers that know how to do their jobs. Great prices on drinks, beer and pizza. This is New Haven-adjacent style pizza. You get the good dough, not too thin, not too fluffy, because of the local water. Toppings that are fresh and varied - Clam pizza is amazing, as is the broccoli rabe and sausage. All this and no standing in line in New Haven! Plus you're paying HALF of what you'd pay at Modern or Pepe's. Don't plan to pop in for a quick pie. Food takes a while to come out once you order it, but that leaves you plenty of time for another $2.50 PBR kinger or 12oz Coors Light. Draft beers are priced fairly, no Fairfield County surcharge. This is the kind of place you almost don't want to tell anyone about for fear of it blowing up. But the world needs to know! Odie's rules!

Love this place! Owners are a really sweet family. Great pizza, great service and friendly atmosphere. Drinks aren't crazy expensive like most places and there's some pool tables and games offered as well. Such a fun place and perfect for a laid back date night.

And we sure found a good one in Hamden on Friday. We saw refrigerated cases full of pastas and raviolis, counters with trays of pizzas, showcases with trays of prepared foods like sausage and oeooers, eggplant rollatinis, and seafood marinara, a sandwich counter for cold cuts, and a baked goods counter. We narrowed our want list down to three very different items. We bought two slices of their sausage pizza, two garlic knots, and three eggplant rollatinis. The pizza was fantastic! Super thin crust, plenty (and I mean PLENTY) of cheese, a very good sauce and delicious sausage chunks. Oh, and the slices were enormous. We made a dinner out of the eggplant and garlic knots. The eggplant was sliced so thin, and was so soft and tender, it resembled lasagna noodles! The rollatinis were loaded with ricotta cheese and marinara sauce and it was a fantastic dish. We split the three rolls and let me tell ya, one and a half rolls were plenty for dinner. The garlic knots were ridiculously loaded with garlic, not teeny tiny shavings, but big hunks of garlic cloves. Needless to say, they were fantastic as well. Our total cost was $24.66, and Sapori threw in four complimentary slices of fresh Italian bread with our order. We really loved Sapori a lot.

We had the ricotta and honey on toast, meatballs, prosciutto/mozzarella to start, some white wine and of course PIZZA! The pizza was light and cooked perfectly. We had the Dolce Salato and the Diavolina. We loved the Dolce Salato! The Diavolina was good, but I think some more spicy salami or maybe an additional spicy component would have been a good addition to the pizza. It needed just a little bit more on the flavor side. But still everything here is high quality and I would recommend! Service was excellent. We were immediately seated and had the option to sit inside or outside. I first sat inside, then we moved to a larger table outside. What I really appreciated as a new mom, was their openness and flexibility for coming in with a stroller. I was nervous to be a burden to the restaurant, but they were super accommodating. Thank you On room for improvement, I think on a hot day, having the inside space being much much cooler, than the outdoor seating (especially for newborns/really young kids/elderly) would be beneficial. Yesterday it was cool inside to start (and remember I chose to move outside), but they started to leave the front door open to allow for easy movement of staff and guests between inside and outside, which made the indoor space get warmer over time. And I totally get that for the ease of movement for staff/guests, but maybe consider keeping it super cool on the inside, so that kiddos/elderly have a cool space on a really hot day to not overheat. The vibe here is great. Chill, warm and light! Come with family and/or friends and enjoy!

Of the two the clam casino was definitely the winner. The clam casino had a good amount of clams so that you really a taste of the clam and the fresh garlic pieces in the pizza really added a kick. The eggplant is very interesting if you want to eat meat but don't want to eat meat. The ricotta eventually got too heavy and the eggplant seems to have been fried before baking so it gets a little oily after a few slices. The bread of the pizza is bit more on the breadier side and the crust didn't really have a flavor. I am a big fan of the New Haven style crust where it is thinner and a bit more on the burnt(but not fully burned) side, but this has potential. It would be great if they seasoned the crust a bit more to give the pizza a more complete taste from start to finish. Overall the pizza is pretty decent. The plain pies, mashed potato, and the mangia special were my favorites but really everything there was top notch. There is nothing that I wouldn't order again. The crust is nice and crunchy. Good char on it. Sauce was delicious - not sour like straight from a can. Toppings were better than I expected for a small pizza spot. Sausage was tasty. Mushrooms were fresh not tinned, fresh tomatoes and basil. Tons of clams on the pizza. Bacon was thick sliced and left almost whole. Eggplant was sliced thin. Generous with the toppings. The crust was thin, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, offering a direct burst of olive-oily flavor that was quickly balanced by tomatoes and basil. I remember Margherita pizzas not having olives, but this one did, giving it a slightly tart flavor that was quite refreshing. The umami of the mushrooms added another layer of flavor as well. Original Tomato Pie with Mozzarella: We added sausage and pepperoni. The sausage pieces were large, perfectly seasoned, tender yet firm, with a distinct marinated aroma. The pepperoni was slightly dry but not tough, with a salty and slightly spicy flavor. These toppings made the pizza more fragrant, but also inevitably greasier; you could see a layer of oil seeping onto the pizza paper. Overall, it was much better than the Modern Apizza I had last time, which was unbearably salty. Finally, as a century-old establishment, this restaurant makes authentic New Haven Apizza, and the less cheese is exactly what it's supposed to be. If you think lots of cheese should be a staple of pizza, then there's no need to try it.

This place is small, unapologetic, and full of character. Decorative firewood stacked with intention, walls filled with wine corks, and #10 tomato cans repurposed as pizza stands. Walk in and you immediately catch the vibe, exposed brick, distressed plaster, a slightly industrial, almost factory-style feel that somehow still feels warm and welcoming. The centerpiece of the room is the wood-fired oven, running hot and glowing with that perfect orange flame. The aroma of burning wood hits you right away and sets the tone. From that moment on, the culinary experience is in motion. We ordered The Mootz and Breaking My Meatballs. Both pies are built on a very thin, tender crust with beautiful leoparding. The dough is flavorful and clearly well-fermented. Sauce is applied with restraint, just enough to support the dough and cheese without overpowering them, and it delivers a clean, bright tomato flavor. Breaking My Meatballs was the standout. Homemade meatballs, herbed ricotta, cherry peppers, mozzarella, and that same balanced sauce. The cherry peppers bring a sharp vinegar tang that cuts perfectly through the richness of the ricotta and meatballs. Every bite hits a different note, and it all works together. Easily one of my favorites. The crust across the board was thin and tender with a delicate smoky char from the wood fire, exactly what you want from this style. Bottom line: Great spot.
