Tribus
Jason P.

I've wanted to visit The Trinity Bar for a while, but I'm not from the area and I had no idea where it is. As I was walking somewhere else on Sunday morning around 11 am, I noticed some people hovering outside a bar. Then I saw the Irish flag, and the sign -- "The Trinity Bar". I had just enough time for a beer. The inside was cool and appropriate for an Irish bar. All of the seating was basically taken by 11:30 a.m. for the Liverpool and Arsenal game. You've got to respect a bar that can fill up before noon on Sunday. They had a good beer selection. I ordered CT's own Tribus. Very good. I've seen pics of Fish and Chips. I've heard people who know food say it's the best in CT. It looks like it may be. I'm going back for it. At least until then . . . 5 Stars.

I have been here so many times across years and ownerships. It is a solid pub staple in New Haven that has endured. I can only hope it will continue on. My heart broke when Anna Liffey's had to close and then Christy's as well. Dim, laid back pub vibe with TVs and football (soccer) on everywhere. Menu is always solid with some good Irish classics and solid sports bar staples to keep you fed as you catch a game or two. You can usually grab a seat on a "normal" day, but big events and tournaments are sometimes standing room. Not necessarily a bad thing if you love the vibe and joy of watching a match with so many others. World Cup, for example, is always a fun party. Giving it five stars because the proper pub has become a rarity in New Haven with the loss of the others mentioned above. Keep this place alive and well please!

"Blood in the streets in the town of New Haven Blood stains the roofs and the palm trees of Venice Blood in my love in the terrible summer Bloody red sun of Fantastic L.A." (Jim Morrison and the Doors) My brother lives in Fairfield County, I live in Hartford County, and we try to have lunch once a month, somewhere halfway between us. It was his turn to choose a place, so yesterday we had lunch at the Trinity Bar in New Haven. It's an old school super traditional Irish Pub and we felt right at home the minute we walked in. We sat at a high top table in the main dining room and Tracey took our order. She really impressed us -it seemed as though she was running the whole place by herself - bartending, taking customer orders, running food from the kitchen to both dining rooms, clearing tables, settling bills. She was very efficient and worked her ass off. I ordered a Southwest Salad $11 and my brother ordered a calamari plate $14. My salad was very good and was priced right. It had romaine lettuce, avocado, tomatoes, black beans, shredded cheddar, tortilla crisps, pico de gallo, and a side of homemade chipotle ranch dressing. My brother's calamari was great. I know because I sampled a few pieces of the squid, cherry peppers, and a taste of the marinara. Calamari is a tricky dish -sometimes its very rubbery and hard to chew, like having a mouth full of rubber bands. Sometimes its super greasy and oily. But not at Trinity - their calamari was terrific. We skipped any booze or brews, so our lunch tab was just $27. And we learned that Tracey had yet another talent -she is an excellent photographer and snapped a photo of us. I liked the way I came out so much, I cropped it for my new Yelp Primary Profile pic.

Wow! I love finding new places ... New to me, not new to New Haven. Always looking for good fish n chips. This Irish Pub delivers. Great looking, spacious interior, nice staff - shout-out to Hannah, my server, good selection of beers on draft ... I will come back soon with friends.

Best fish and chips that I have found in New Haven! Absolutely perfect and the Irish way I love. The restaurant is very clean and welcoming. The servers and workers are super friendly and helpful. If you're looking for an authentic Irish pub this is a great option.

It's Thank You Thursday and I want to give a shout out to The Trinity Bar in New Haven! I have been here several times now and have such a great time every time I do. #thankyouthursday #tyt Definitely recommending a Guinness here. And I have had their Fish N Chips a few times as well and they are so delicious! Flaky, crispy, not soggy---so good and the fries have always been excellent. I have also tried and would recommend the Shepherd's Pie. Classic and perfect now that the colder weather is here. There's lots of space to move around and watch a game. It's cozy and during nice weather, the patio is a fun spot to hang out as well. All great things to say here. Staff is super friendly too!

First timer! This place was fantastic! Went here to watch the Ireland rugby game. Early morning game and a delicious breakfast sandwich. The bar is double sided. TVs everywhere. Great place to watch the Irish with local support. Bartenders were super personable. Crowd was friendly. Great atmosphere and will definitely be back!

We went on a Saturday night and got seated immediately. Plenty of seating. Clean and fun atmosphere. The service was ok, they could have been a little more attentive but overall not a dealbreaker for us as we were enjoying a night out. We started with the homemade tater tots. I enjoyed their take on it as it does not look like the traditional tater tot. My boyfriend on the other hand was not a fan of the texture. I had the Cobb salad which was a solid Cobb salad. Nothing extraordinary but a good salad. My boyfriend had the corned beef Reuben which is one of his favorites. He enjoyed the sandwich but wishes the corned beef had less fat.

A good place for a college student. My friends and I walked in and immediately we were id'd. I guess I was expecting a more restaurant like place instead of a heavy bar scene, but should've expected that considering it was a Saturday night. Food was delicious but service was a tad slow. Nice place to try! Irish curry was delicious!

We arrived on a Monday around peak dinner time, but there was essentially no wait (apparently uncommon according to my friend -- just a delightful consequence of dining at a college town during the summer). We split a medium pizza (1/2 elote mexican street corn and 1/2 bbq brisket), proving to be more than enough for two plus a more than ample amount of leftovers. Recently, I've gravitated toward thinner pizzas, a far cry from the typical Detroit (foccacia-esque) style pizzas I used to prefer, and BAR's pizza is akin to a flatbread yet very thin, another fallen angel to the GLP's. The undercarriage boasts a brilliant crust, almost cracker-like. However, it should be noted that the pizza is indulgent all the same. The elote pizza is quite possibly the most memorable, unique pizza I've ever had; it arrives almost crimson-red with a generous layer of corn and takis atop. It's still incredibly well balanced despite the hodgepodge of varied toppings. It's hard to pick a favorite between this and the bbq brisket though; while one is incredibly unique the other is simply sumptuous, nothing pedestrian about either of the two. The service is also impeccable, almost rivaling that of southern hospitality. I always thought Californians were friendly but something is in the air every time I visit New Haven. Incredible!

We especially loved the Habanero Mango Shrimp and the Burger on Fire. The restaurant was clean and the staff is quite friendly. The only issue we had were the wait times and pacing. When we arrived, there weren't many people there (it was 4:00pm). We both ordered Woodford Reserve on the rocks and the drinks took 20 minutes to come out. Pouring bourbon into a glass over ice doesn't take any real time, so at most the wait should have been 5-10 minutes. The food also came out at weird times. We ordered the shrimp as an appetizer, and my husband's side salad that came with his steak came out first...which was fine. The shrimp should have come out with that. However, the shrimp and our meals all came out at the same time...so it was like BAM, FOOD! That was a little much. We did enjoy everything and had a nice dinner, but our one suggestion to the restaurant would be to work on timing. It can make or break a restaurant experience.
