This was a suggested restaurant to check out while visiting New Haven. We entered on Wednesday evening. It was very dark and empty which was surprising. We sat inside and waited for someone to greet us. They did not have a large amount of options so we stuck to their offerings. We ordered a large tray of nachos with chicken and several appetizers. The nachos were okay but I had better. The appetizers were the better option to go with. Maybe it was a quiet night but I would have preferred some more light and better food options. Yesterday after work, I decided to head to Trinity for a late St. Patrick's Day lunch. I pulled up a seat by the bar and ordered the "Corned Beef Reuben" (w/ sauerkraut & Swiss on rye bread, served w/ hand-cut fries & thousand island dressing) with a draught pour of Guinness. The sandwich was so delicious and the beer was so refreshing. There was a festive crowd and the staff were very helpful; it was a sea of green apparel and flat caps. Before leaving, I also enjoyed a "Black Velvet" (Guinness mixed with Magner's Cider) and a "Guinness 0.0". Trinity is an Elm City treasure and I hope it is around for many more years to come! True Irish pub experience, great atmosphere extensive beer menu and of course, they know how to pour a Guiness. I was there to watch college football with a buddy, ordered buffalo wings and their homemade tater tots. Wings were very good, the tots were lights out! Inside, this place brings you back to Dublin, great atmosphere. My only issue and this is my issue... this bar caters to European Football (soccer). Most people come there to watch it. On the first weekend of college football, the big screen and others were dedicated to soccer. Not a bad thing, just something that you need to know. They advertise the NFL package, but obviously American Football takes a backseat. Also, at one point the bartender was asked to change a football game IN OVERTIME, to Tennis and she did until a few patrons watching the game protested. I've wanted to visit The Trinity Bar for a while, but I'm not from the area and I had no idea where it is. As I was walking somewhere else on Sunday morning around 11 am, I noticed some people hovering outside a bar. Then I saw the Irish flag, and the sign -- "The Trinity Bar". I had just enough time for a beer. The inside was cool and appropriate for an Irish bar. All of the seating was basically taken by 11:30 a.m. for the Liverpool and Arsenal game. You've got to respect a bar that can fill up before noon on Sunday. They had a good beer selection. I ordered CT's own Tribus. Very good. I've seen pics of Fish and Chips. I've heard people who know food say it's the best in CT. It looks like it may be. I'm going back for it. At least until then . . . 5 Stars. read more

I have been here so many times across years and ownerships. It is a solid pub staple in New Haven that has endured. I can only hope it will continue on. My heart broke when Anna Liffey's had to close and then Christy's as well. Dim, laid back pub vibe with TVs and football (soccer) on everywhere. Menu is always solid with some good Irish classics and solid sports bar staples to keep you fed as you catch a game or two. You can usually grab a seat on a "normal" day, but big events and tournaments are sometimes standing room. Not necessarily a bad thing if you love the vibe and joy of watching a match with so many others. World Cup, for example, is always a fun party. Giving it five stars because the proper pub has become a rarity in New Haven with the loss of the others mentioned above. Keep this place alive and well please! read more

It was his turn to choose a place, so yesterday we had lunch at the Trinity Bar in New Haven. It's an old school super traditional Irish Pub and we felt right at home the minute we walked in. We sat at a high top table in the main dining room and Tracey took our order. She really impressed us -it seemed as though she was running the whole place by herself - bartending, taking customer orders, running food from the kitchen to both dining rooms, clearing tables, settling bills. She was very efficient and worked her ass off. I ordered a Southwest Salad $11 and my brother ordered a calamari plate $14. My salad was very good and was priced right. It had romaine lettuce, avocado, tomatoes, black beans, shredded cheddar, tortilla crisps, pico de gallo, and a side of homemade chipotle ranch dressing. My brother's calamari was great. I know because I sampled a few pieces of the squid, cherry peppers, and a taste of the marinara. Calamari is a tricky dish -sometimes its very rubbery and hard to chew, like having a mouth full of rubber bands. Sometimes its super greasy and oily. But not at Trinity - their calamari was terrific. We skipped any booze or brews, so our lunch tab was just $27. And we learned that Tracey had yet another talent -she is an excellent photographer and snapped a photo of us. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!! The bouncer denied us service after holding our California IDs for 5 minutes inside the bar, while we waited outside and then said he would've shredded our IDs but he still wasn't sure if they were "real" or not, so he didn't shred them, praise the lord, or else he would've stranded us in the East Coast. Tells me everything I need to know about this establishment when they hire such a terrible bouncer to represent their bar. Not to mention every other bar we visited in New Haven let us in with no problems and when we asked about the Trinity bar they told us it's a trash bar that will let anyone in as long as they have a pulse. After speaking to the local police and getting their confirmation that our IDs passed every test in the book, we went back to the bar with our other friends from California whose IDs immediately passed and apparently "seemed legit", so we asked the bouncer why me and my friend were denied service when we have the same IDs as the guys they just passed with no problem and apparently our appearances didn't sit right with him. I'm glad we didn't get into this bar that has such a discriminatory bouncer because if he's the face representing the bar I'd hate to meet the people who actually own and tolerate such an environment. read more

I have been here several times now and have such a great time every time I do. #thankyouthursday #tyt Definitely recommending a Guinness here. And I have had their Fish N Chips a few times as well and they are so delicious! Flaky, crispy, not soggy---so good and the fries have always been excellent. I have also tried and would recommend the Shepherd's Pie. Classic and perfect now that the colder weather is here. There's lots of space to move around and watch a game. Not only did the owner automatically assume I'm an Uber driver because of how I look, the bar attendant went on to verbally abuse me for trying to get her attention when she forgot to hand me HALF my order. The service was ok, they could have been a little more attentive but overall not a dealbreaker for us as we were enjoying a night out. We started with the homemade tater tots. I enjoyed their take on it as it does not look like the traditional tater tot. My boyfriend on the other hand was not a fan of the texture. I had the Cobb salad which was a solid Cobb salad. The Trinity Bar was such a great find! Such a nice atmosphere with Pitkin Plaza right outside the restaurant, friendly staff, and a wide array of options to choose from on the menu. This is a fun place to come with friends if you are looking for pub fare or just to enjoy a couple beers. It was nice and calm when we went, which was exactly what we were looking for. I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap for dinner, which was hearty but didn't make me feel as though I overate. This is a great place to eat before an Isles game! The staff is incredibly friendly and acoomodating. Don't skip the espresso martini while it's on tap! They have a great variety of apps and main dishes including a phenomenal steak sandwich. We didn't have enough time to check out the dessert menu, but we'll be back for more! Finally, it's back! Trinity unfortunately suffered from a fire a couple years back, but now it's back and awesome. The prices are reasonable and the food is decent for typical bar fare. I held a wing eating contest and sourced all my wings (sriracha honey) from Trinity since the price was amazing and the quality was decent. The food was prepared with time to spare (plus I got the veggie sides and a huge bucket of blue cheese and ranch). Otherwise this spot has a solid atmosphere, a decent beer selection and again the portion sizes are awesome. Super happy this cool hangout spot is back with a vengeance. Wish I could give less stars. The bouncer here was so rude to my friends and I. He mocked our friends while saying they couldn't get into the bar but would provide no real reason as to why. The police officers near by stepped in and said my friends were fine to go in and he still denied entry. He said I was too red and I replied that I am Asian so that's what happens when I drink (a genetic trait). He said I was pulling the "race" card when I was just trying to explain why my face was red.
