What a nightmare. I live in Connecticut where there are many Barcelonas and this being the only one in Denver. This is the worst representation of how a Barcelona should be. Let's start with the size of bathroom 1 stall 1 urinal for a place this size is ridiculous.Guys stacked inside all waiting to use bathroom . Next we were sat outside by the flower box. There were dead flies floating in my glass of water, I asked for a new glass which was given immediately. The plate for the oil had to be asked to be replaced as well because there was dirt and facial hair on it. That was also replaced and after pouring the oil on new plate we clearly see and took a picture of more hair in the oil. The flies were out of control the whole time constantly swatting at them. Yellow jacket wasps flying around the flowers which is probably causing more bugs i recommend fake flowers or any attempt to decrease them. The flowers were also watered twice by I belive a manager mid aged male who splashed my fiance both times with water has he did not water them carefully he was flinging the last of water out of can nd got her both times. He was not mindful of her being litterally 1 ft away and she made it very obvious in her reaction both times just careless. The new york strip had to be re done as we asked for it to be with out horseradish it came with it on anyway and medium rare . Cooking style was never asked nd shouldn't be assumed to be rare at all especially when its not listed on menu that way. I personally refused to order anything and only stayed because my fiance didn't want to waste the trip. This whole experience felt like anything but classy. Will never return. read more

We originally came here for our wedding welcome party, and it was very accommodating during Covid. We came here again for my birthday dinner, and the food ended up just being okay. The paella marisco had a strong seafood taste which was unfortunate and no saffron flavor. Mussels also had a strong seafood taste and small, so they were probably frozen. The patas bravas, bacon wrapped dates, charcuterie and cheese, and albondigas were fine nothing special. The burnt basque cheesecake could have used a strawberry sauce. Service was good, and food was actually quick for the most part. For the price and okay food, I would probably go to a different Spanish tapas place in town. read more

Barcelona has been on our list for a while. We had a fantastic meal. The whole fish was outstanding and worth the visit on its own. We also shared the bacon-wrapped dates, patatas bravas, crispy cod, jamón & manchego croquetas, and albóndigas, paired with Tempranillo and rosé. Every plate that hit the table was packed with flavor. Unfortunately, the service was a completely different story. After our initial order was taken, our server disappeared for a long stretch. We had planned to order additional dishes, but she never came back to check on us. By the time we finally got the rest of our order in, the timing of the meal was completely off. Three of our six tapas arrived after we finished the whole fish--no joke. We were told to order the fish first and the tapas afterward because the fish takes 30-45 minutes to prepare. What we learned is that Barcelona doesn't operate like many other tapas restaurants where you can order as you go. If you want your tapas before the larger items, make sure you get those ordered before your server walks away. It wasn't just us - it was the tables around us as well. I noticed service mentioned in other reviews, and based on our experience, it's something worth knowing before you go. Yum yum yum. The food is delicious. Deserves 5 syars but it took forever for our order to be taken so I removed a star. But honestly, we had the brunch menu and it was fantastic. The waiters were very conscious to avoid allergies and knowledgable about the menu. Everything came out quickly after we ordered and was delicious. The steak and egg was perfect. The mussels are a decently sized portion. The croquetas could not have been better. The patatas bravas were absolutely fire. We also tried the olive oil cake which was so authentic. My wife and I decided to dine in here for happy hour (drinks + a few small plates) for my wife's birthday. We opted to sit at the bar right when they opened, so we were literally the first people to sit down. The service was absolutely atrocious. We were never given water (while I'm aware we're in a drought in Denver at the moment, I watched every other customer at the bar and at tables get served water without being asked), we were skipped over countless times by multiple (3 to be exact) bartenders when "making their rounds around the bar", one of the bartenders actually told us how terrible the happy hour is (your paying 3/4's for a cocktail that's less than half the normal size, the HH wine is also atrocious - and the server whole heartedly agreed, the list goes on...) so if you are wanting to dine in for happy hour, I'd strongly discourage it; this is not the place. We were not in a rush by any means, but we literally sat there for 2+ hours just to have 4 small plates and drinks. I can count on one hand how many times we were actually spoken to/helped, including our food being served. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The food was fine; the music was probably the best part about our experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After a "terrible happy hour" (quote straight from one of the bartenders), aloof staff, and highly overpriced everything, I will not be returning to this neighborhood chain "wine bar". Pros: Located in a really fun part of downtown Denver. Easy street parking around. Friendly server, Mar, took very good care of us! Plenty of vegetarian options in options in the Tapas. Cons: Very VERY loud inside even on the edges - I cannot imagine being able to talk to anyone at a table in the middle of the restaurant. Roasted corn was tough and chewy. Broccolini was in a sauce that was not at all appetizing and overly lemony. Beef was served very rare. We were seated near the door and also directly under an air-conditioning unit on a cool-ish evening. I'm about to unpack quite a lovely happy hour: We walk in and get sat on the patio in the sun. It's pretty hot, our server Corey (10/10 server) came over and greeted us and immediately said, "im gonna set up an umbrella for you guys, it's hot out here" GREAT start to our happy hour. Corey didn't stop there. We were a bit overwhelmed by the huge menu and he had some amazing recommendations for us. From happy hour deals to a few tapas on the normal menu, Corey knew what was gooood. He recommended the ajo negro cheese and it was awesome. Also hooked us up with some good Recs on the HH menu (the espresso martini dark was fire) Place was awesome, like I said, been here before but never during happy hour. This is a pretty solid tapas place where pretty much all of the small plates are exceptional. It's a perfect place to come with a group and order a bunch of food and drinks and hang out. It's also a pretty happening, busy, noisy place with great energy. Plates that really stood out to me were the Spiced Beef Empanadas, Jamón & Manchego Croquetas and Eggplant Caponata. The empanadas might very well be the best I've ever had, and I'm not usually an eggplant fan but their eggplant dish might have changed my mind about eggplant. I would certainly double down on all three of these dishes the next time I visit. What's great about this place outside of the ambience really starts and ends with the tapas though. The "Charcuterie & Cheese" platters we ordered had like one really, really small piece of cheese on each and we were a group of 5 people. The meat on them was good but nothing special. That was certainly disappointing. We also tried the Paella Salvaje and it was a total miss. The rice was mushy, was pretty skimpy on the meat, and flavor in general was hard to come by. For a Spanish place where the tapas were exceptional, I'm a little surprised they couldn't pull off a paella. We ordered several cocktails, my favorite by far was the Alebrijes. But overall the cocktails were just fine. I think it could be sort of hit-or-miss here, with a lot of really standout tapas dishes. We ordered the patatas bravas, roasted carrots, mussels, pulpo, and the jamón y manchego croquetas, which were definitely the standout. The croquetas were perfectly crisp on the outside and creamy inside, with the salty bite of jamón balancing the richness of the manchego. We ended up walking in, which I've been to Barcelona previously and knew we might have to wait but we must've had the time gods on our side and only waited 10 min. The patatas bravas were delicious and the garlic aioli added a lot, and luckily they didn't skimp on the dressing which made all the difference. Decent sized potion for the fries as well so they filled me up a reasonable amount. There was so many options for multiple taste profiles and everything was wonderful. They even had delicious mocktail options! Food is alright. I loved their shrimp but every other dish was mid. Service though could not be worse. I dined at Barcelona Wine Bar with a group of 10+ and left with meat juice soaked into my sweater after a server spilled a plate on me during service. Their response? Apologizing while walking away and saying "I hope that's not satin" - sigh. No manager was called. No napkins or towel offered. No further apology. I had to leave the restaurant mid-dinner to buy a new sweater for the night. I followed up by phone the next day. Filed an incident report. Emailed the GM who replied with an apology and promised to follow up. It has now been two weeks since our visit, and my two email replies have met with complete silence. No resolution, no reimbursement, no follow up. I was ghosted twice....first at the table, then by management. I did not want to write this review and tried my best to contact the restaurant directly but is a waste of time. This entire experience is and was unacceptable. The total lack of accountability afterward is what truly reflects the character of this establishment. Barcelona Wine Bar didn't just ruin my sweater, they ruined my entire impression of Denver. I will not be returning to this city or this restaurant, and I'd encourage anyone planning to dine here to think twice before trusting them with your evening. read more

Service was the worst I've experienced in years, so I felt obliged to write a review. We're foodies and it was reminiscent of our tapas experiences in Europe, so that was fun. I had heard bad reviews of this place on and off over the years, which stopped me from going here. I made reservations because we were meeting friends for drinks afterwards nearby. Our table wasn't ready when we arrived and we waited for 15-20 minutes. I asked the hostess how her night was and she told me that they were at about half capacity so it was a "chill" night. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When we were seated, they put us outside, which wasn't requested and we wouldn't have preferred. All good, there was a slight breeze in the heat. I thought guests should have been asked their preference though.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service, we got water immediately, but it took about 15 minutes before our drink orders were taken. Then 20 minutes before our food order was taken. We got the first round of plates and then waited 30-40 minutes for the next couple of plates and another 30 minutes for the last round. Timing was way off. We wanted to order dessert, but our server never returned, though she walked past us several times. We asked someone else for to-go boxes. We spent 30 minutes tracking someone down for our check. Wild. People could have just walked out. My husband who was a chef and worked in restaurants for years was appalled. I thought it was pretty rough, as well. I'd hate to imagine how long the larger plates that take "30-45 minutes" to come out would actually take. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Another thing that was weird was that several dogs were allowed on the patio where people were eating. I love dogs and have one of my own. But this was inappropriate. This has become one of my favorite restaurants! I haven't tried everything on the menu, but it's definitely a goal I have. Everything I have tasted has been delicious. Some items we always order are: Charcuterie and cheese (we ask the server to choose 3 items) Whipped sheep's cheese - so creamy! Broccoli - extra garlicky Brussels sprouts - nice and crispy Patatas bravas - who doesn't love potatoes? Diver scallops Gambas al ajillo (shrimp) - tangy and a little spicy Jamon & Manchego Croquetas - cheesey! Pork Belly (or Skirt Steak if I'm with someone who doesn't like pork belly). All the paella dishes (I prefer the salvaje) are good if you're with a group to share. I like the wine flights to try the different and unique offerings I would never know to order. The service has always been great. At around 6:00 it gets crazy busy so your food may come out a bit slower and your server may not be around as much, but you never feel neglected. The atmosphere is lively with good vibes, everyone talking and laughing and having a good time.
