While in Barcelona, our driver called this restaurant for us and got us a 10:15 pm reservation. Our party included my husband, my two year old, and me. I wasn't sure what to except because there were a mix of 5-star as well as 1-star reviews, so it was hard to gauge what to expect. 1. Service was great. I was stressed out about eating dinner so late with a jet-lagged toddler at a restaurant where he seemed to be the only child. They brought him colored pencils and coloring pages. The staff spoke directly to him and engaged him. Thank you! 2. We ordered the seafood paella and tuna tartare to share. The food came out in about 15-20 minutes. The tuna tartare was fresh, seasoned well, and delicious. The paella was great! My two-year-old gobbled it up and kept asking for "more rice!!". I was worried it would be too fishy, but it wasn't. I'm not even that big of a seafood fan, but I ate/tasted everything. We got to sit near the kitchen area, and this was great for my son. He enjoyed watching the cooks. Nothing was bad, just so bland. Nothing standout. It's a super busy popular restaurant with a lovely location, but everything lacked flavor and seasoning. I had a sole fish, which looked beautiful, but it looks like they cut open a fish and heated it and voila. Just boring. Tasty, well cooked, but nothing memorable. Found this place from a referral from a local photographer in Barcelona. It's a beautiful restaurant hidden in the corner next to the sea with a view of the sea (though the sea is virtually pitch black if you come at night albeit with nice fires at the balcony). Indeed, it felt as if we were the only non-Spanish speaking party at the restaurant. It was filled with local families and couples. The inside is absolutely gorgeous with an open view of the professional kitchen and staff running around. The service was excellent as well. As for the food, the seafood dishes are presented in a great way that brings out the natural flavors of the fish if that's what you like. Most of the dishes don't have much seasoning/salt, which we greatly enjoyed. The Galician-style octopus (Pulpo) was really unique and had a nice, fatty texture that reminded me of pork tongue/ear. As a referral for a great paella restaurant, Barceloneta unfortunately lost its 5-star for me because the paella was a minor letdown. While the rice and seafood were cooked well in texture, the flavor was overly salty contrary to the other dishes we had. It tasted like too much XO seafood sauce was poured into the rice which made it incredibly salty and masking of the natural seafood flavors (you can tell just by looking at the dish). Overall, I would come back for the seafood and beautiful interior of Barceloneta. While I wouldn't come here specifically for the paella, it was still enjoyable and a lot of the other seafood dishes were all memorably delicious. read more

In April 7th 2024 at 2:50pm I was sit together with my family and my bother's family (4 adults 4 kids). The first thing I will say is that the food it's ok but definitely not worth the price, it was 4:30pm and and still waiting for everyone's food when I told them that I had a place to be at 5:00pm the only thing they say was "the food is coming", when the food finally came it was 4:45pm and 10 minutes later I told them that we are still waiting on my wife's paella. At 5:00pm I couldn't wait no more and ask for the check which I was given in less than 10 seconds. The bill was 350 euro and my wife never got to eat her paella. Was in a rush and never put a formal complaint to the manager but glad that I'm doing it now. Only good thing was the drinks but 1 star anyway. read more

My husband and I come to Iceland at least once a year to see family. We've eaten at more restaurants than I can count. This was the worst food I have ever had in Iceland! We had a few starters which were mediocre, and then we got the seafood paella which was truly the worst I have ever had in my entire life! When the paella came out, we were totally underwhelmed by what it looked like. A lot of rice and very little seafood. The rice was gummy, and there was almost no seafood in it and what seafood there was was not fresh. There were four muscles that were tiny, two shrimps and four langoustines that were not worth the trouble. We were never offered bread. The service was decent, but not great. My husband is a home cook and his paella is so much better and definitely fresher than the crap we got at this restaurant. When the waitress asked how it was, I told her that the seafood was not fresh and the shrimp was mealy which is a sure sign that it is not fresh. This meal was a waste of money and time. Please read reviews below worse booking system ever. We had dinner reservations at 8pm it's currently 8:38pm and we are still waiting. This place caters to big pharmaceutical companies but if you are a couple on a date go somewhere else. There are too many nice places in Barcelona than being totally stuck at a restaurant that cannot manage itself well enough. Also wanted to mention that they knew it was our anniversary and brought us a bowl of whip cream w a candle on it. We visited Restaurante Barceloneta as a party of five on a Saturday night around 7:30pm (with a reservation we made same day), in search of what we were told was some of the best paella in Barcelona. We were not disappointed, and left having experienced a fantastic all around meal! We were quickly seated and sat upstairs in a beautiful area with a great view overlooking the water/bay. The service was excellent...attentive, friendly, suggesting dishes we might like and extremely professional. Their mojitos are outstanding! We greatly enjoyed their clams and garlic as an appetizer (great broth), and then we shared three of their paellas (seafood, meat/vegetable and black rice). All of the paella dishes were excellent (even my kids loved and devoured them)...but our favorite was the black squid ink with cuttlefish...just awesome! It's pricey, but I think the quality of service and food is something that you won't get anywhere else. Here's a list of what I tried here: - Pan con tomato: 4/5 I'm a bread lover and I found it super delicious! The bread was toasted fine - Spanish ham: 5/5 I could eat it for days. Super thinly sliced. It's definitely a must try if you're here! - Tomatoes with tuna: 5/5 Healthy, delicious, and fresh. It wasn't salty at all! Great starter and highly recommend. - Fried squid: Amazing. It's crunchy and tasty and fresh. I've never had anything like it. Seafood in Barcelona is seriously the best! - Paella: 3/5 This was my first time eating paella and I thought it was okay. I just think that it's not the culture here to go above and beyond in restaurants. Now to the food :) Everything we had here was so fresh! You can taste it in every bite. We had the pan con tomate with a side of jamon - best I've had in all of Barcelona! Croquetas de Mariscos - just the right amount of seafood. Delish. Tempura shrimp - tryyyy this!! Food was good and the service was good but they rip you off. We ordered the chicken and ham croquettes and they offered to split them with the fish croquettes since there were 8 in the order. Then when we received the check they charged a total of 20 euros instead of 13.75 for the croquettes and said that every restaurant in the area would do the same. They should've told us that when we ordered since we were only going to order the ham and cheese croquettes but it seemed like they were being nice by offering us to go half and half when they were actually just scamming us and trying to increase the size of our bill. Big disappointment poor service very expensive oysters were $10.00 per dozen I should of asked before ordering 12. Very bland no sauce served with them just lemon. I went to Barceloneta on a friend's recommendation, with the warning that it was pricey. I was a little disappointed when I first walked in, as it looks like the really expensive, seaside restaurant that you find in every similar area in the Western hemisphere. That is to say, it felt a little pretentious and didn't have much personality. My paella was just OK, but my mom really liked her seafood pasta, and my dad declared the salmon to be the best he's eaten in his life. The flan we shared for dessert was excellent. Service was OK. We were greeted very promptly and the service was top notch. The food is exceptional and the menu extensive. This is a great place to come as a group so you can try the array of amazing tapas this restaurant has to offer.
