In search of authentic Spanish cuisine and seafood, our concierge recommended this spot. Most restaurants really start picking up for the dinner rush after 9pm, which was clearly the case here. After an evening of sightseeing we ended up at the restaurant around 9:15 to find the place jam packed. It is a little off the beaten path but very close to the beach and the Barcelona boardwalk. In true Spanish style, no one is in a rush here, so you might as well settle down for a dinner experience that will take a solid two hours. We were given plenty of time to peruse the menu before anyone even came to see if we had questions and to take our order. We settled on the Catalan style tomato bread, my husband had the chicken paella and I had the fish and seafood paella. For our daughter, they were happy to just grill some chicken and add a side of French fries. Perfect for a toddler. Again, the Catalan style tomato bread was an excellent start to our meal. For our entrees, my husband liked his paella but thought the portion of chicken in his dish was very stingy as was the overall serving of rice. Now, he is a big meat eater and he mentioned that the vegetable paella we had for dinner the night before far exceeded what he had at Barceloneta. I've never known him to choose a vegetarian option over meat, so this comment was very surprising. Now, I'm not disagreeing. The veggie paella from the night before was excellent. But so was my seafood paella (hence a 4-star rating instead of 3). It had monkfish, shrimp, prawns, clams, calamari and even a baby lobster. The flavors were deep and the fresh seafood really shined in the dish. It also felt like my portion was significantly bigger than my husbands. Our daughter loved her dinner and actually ate a very good portion. As parents of a child who hates to eat, this could not have made us happier. Even she clearly enjoyed her food, which kept her busy and happy for a significant portion of our two hour dinner. I've become so accustomed to shoveling food quickly into my mouth because I am always paranoid that she will get into mischief because she isn't eating. It's no way to dine out at home or anywhere else, but it is survival. So you can imagine our enthusiasm when in return, we were able to enjoy our dinner as well! The vibe at Barceloneta embodies the Mediterranean and the sea. They're known for seafood and from what I tasted, they know what they're doing. So if you're dining here, stay away from the meat paella and select one of their many seafood paella's instead. Like me, you won't regret it! read more

I am visiting Barcelona and wanted paella. I reviewed several restaurants online and this one seemed good. The pros: very friendly service, very good and attentive. Good location by the water, some nice views. The cons: the food is very average. We ordered the anchovies (they were excellent); the gazpacho (average) and the seafood paella (not good). The paella was the most disappointing. The seafood, shrimp, squid, fish, were all OVER COOKED and rubbery. Like they made it a while earlier anticipating someone would order it and then it cooked too long. The flavor of the rice was ok, but it lacked the quintessential crispy/hard shell bottom where the rice cooks to the pan. Very disappointing. Especially for the price, 90 EUR for 2 people (that includes drinks and dessert). I gave it three stars for service, location and atmosphere (and anchovies/gazpacho), but if you're looking for good paella, it's probably 2 stars at best. Next time I want really good paella, unfortunately I'll look somewhere else. read more

We came here on a Sunday night in mid February 2014 for a party of 13. Ultimately we were in search of an amazing paella which I can say mission accomplished. We made same day reservations which was likely ok given it was a Sunday and off-season. We sat upstairs in a side/private area right next to the open kitchen windows overlooking the amazing floor-to-ceiling window views of the water. They gave us very very good service. Some at the table complained of 'over attention' but in my book that is ok with me. Prompt, attentive, constant refills of our wine and water, plates immediately removed, etc. We had to return one item as the person who ordered it didn't like it --- not that it was prepared badly but she didn't realize how fatty and what texture the Pig Trotter would be (she's not into seafood..). And they handled it perfectly - took it back without making her feel even more awkward and uncomfortable and quickly replaced with a veggie paella. I feel how a restaurant handles a returned dish says a LOT. Since we were here for a dirty 30 birthday trip we wanted to end off with a cake and candles- which they easily accommodated by bringing out an entire Tiramisu cake and secretly lit the candles we brought - and then only charged us for the number of pieces we ordered rather than the whole cake. We ordered loads of food (see receipt pic for pricing) and enjoyed it all. The Paella was amazing. I had black noodles with cuttlefish which I loved. Calamari and croquets were very good but not special (i.e. prepared like anywhere else). And considering all the food and alcohol we consumed we were very happy with the final price of around £50 per person. I would definitely return here. read more

Our hotel (W) recommended coming here for seafood. It's within walking distance of the W (1.1km...around 10 min walk). It's by the sea with an oceanview and multi-levels. We had the seafood croquettes to start which were good but most of the seafood filling was just a seafood paste rather than real chunks of seafood. We had the grilled salmon with sea salt and that was cooked perfectly. I had the octopus Galacian style and it was very soft. Portion sizes are good - just right. For dessert, I had the Catalan custard with coconut ice cream. When we asked for just one dessert to share between the two of us, they split the dessert portion into two dishes which made it easy for us to eat and each half portion was seemingly a full portion on its own. They have English menus and the manager and some staff know English. The bill was around 57 euros (we only had one bottle of water, no alcohol). read more

Found this place on yelp and was excited to try it since I've had good luck with yelp in Barcelona so far. I was looking for the best place for paella and this restaurant came up. This restaurant is rated as a three euro sign. So for that price tag I'm expecting good service and good food. However yelp steered us wrong this time. (We should've known considering this is a big restaurant on a Main Street with menus in different languages = tourist trap.) A restaurant of this size should have a lot more reviews. And now that I look at their photos (the professional ones with the white background) I'm sure the restaurant uploaded them along with their fake reviews. There's no way this place deserves 4.5 stars or even 3 for that matter. The food was bland and flavorless. To make up for the lack of flavor they added a lot of salt. We had the calamari, paella and the black ink cuttlefish. The calamari was cooked in a tempura batter and there was no flavor to it whatsoever. The only sauce they had for the calamari was mayonnaise. I asked for marinara sauce and or cocktail sauce and the waiter said no. Um, ok. The paella and black ink cuttlefish came out. The server asked us if we we're going to be sharing our dishes which we were. I saw him from afar On a different table giving us half of each meal on our plate. I was disappointed because I like to take pictures of the food (especially when I think it's going to be tasty) and part of the joys of eating is admiring the presentation of the food. In this case there was none. Also as other reviewer's have mentioned the service here is horrendous. They don't come to check on you, you have to wave them down in order to get something and they are not attentive at all. Our waiter was not good at all. It seemed as if they were rushing us so they can move on to their next customer. My best advice is to steer clear of this place especially for the money that you will be paying. I highly recommend going to this cheaper place that is 10x better and will be worth every penny you spend there - Arcano! read more

Our family stopped by this place after a recommendation from a friend. We didn't have a reservation but were seated without a wait around 7:30. Our family of 4 ordered a salad, the mussels and clams sauteed in garlic, the seafood and fish paella, the black rice with cuttlefish, and 2 desserts- the hazelnut ice cream and Catalan custard. I've come to realize that salads in Europe are not the best thing to order at restaurants. Everything else, however, was wonderful! I would definitely recommend the black rice with cuttlefish and the seafood paella. The desserts were good, but not amazing. And for those that don't know, Catalan custard is a sort of creme brulee/flan mix. The restaurant got very crowded soon after we got there, so if you plan on eating past 8, I would definitely recommend a reservation. They have menus in several different languages and the service was great. A good place to stop if you want to enjoy a nice meal near the beaches of Barcelona! read more

This bayside seafood eatery was recommended by a coworker, much to my wife's and my own delight it was absolutely delicious. We booked our reservation a mere 45 minutes before arriving on a Thursday night at a quarter to 11 with no problem whatsoever. The dining space is quite large with charming patio seating along the waterfront. For starters, my wife and I shared caracoles del mar (sea snails), a phenomenal appetizer (especially if you enjoy things like sea urchin) as well as the fried calamari legs. The lightly battered calamari was hands down the best I've ever tried (it's in another league altogether). For mains we shared a house specialty: Arroz Negro (rice in a squid ink sauce). Words cannot describe how good this dish was! It had a bevy of squid mixed in and was served with what was easily the best aioli I've ever tried! In addition we shared their bountiful seafood paella (how they cook their rice so perfectly I have no idea). The service was superb: when our two main dishes arrived, our server (in suit and tie) portioned out the plates delicately and with care, making sure to provide us each with a sizable langoustine or large prawn in the center respectively. He was highly knowledgable in Spanish wines and made a great recommendation on a bottle of white to compliment our meal. A perfect first meal in Barcelona, showing off what they do best. This is the best place to be! I have been to a lot of places, Thailand, China, Africa etc. But I allways end up here! Wonder why? I think I have been to Barcelona maybe 10 times the last few years. And this place, oh my gud I dont have the Word to describe this! The beach is amazing, the people are wonderful, good food and drinks, the hotels are beautiful, the streets, animals, shops, sounds, smell, everything is just perfect. It dosent matter why or who you travel with because in this place I can promise you that you will have a wonderful time and it will be a trip you will never forget. I love to chill here mostly in the afternoon when sun is not very direct. There is always something going on, skaters, bikers, runners on the upper deck and surfers and beach volleyball players on the beach. There are a few nice clubs- Opium, Carpe Diem and Ice Barceloneta are towards the end of the strip. I also love to watch Frank Gehry Fish changing colors to the sunset. read more

Service: Horrendous. Our waiter was switched up at the beginning of our service. The manager came to take our order and he was just so standoffish. Didn't explain anything to us and kept his words very minimal. Not a very friendly atmosphere. Waiter barely came to refill our waters and didn't pour our wine, nor did he offer us to taste the wine before confirming if we liked it (I always thought these fancy places do that for you). Food: Definitely overpriced, but the oysters were pretty amazing. Fat, succulent, and very fresh. Paella was horrible. 21 euros for something that would feed maybe one person, depending on how hungry you were. Looked very lackluster with no color whatsoever. Had just 2 prawns and was just, meh. The octopus though, was delicious! Nice char but good meaty flavor. Have to say if you're going to order anything, order the octopus! Overall, would NOT recommend this place nor would I go here again. The view wasn't even that great. The entrance is very well decorated and gives the restaurant a trendy feel. Once inside it opens up to a multi level restaurant with great views. We were greeted by our waiter and assistant who were both very well dressed. Their specialities is seafood and a great appetizer was the sea snails. Grilled turbot was top notch. The wife and I both had fish (tuna steak and salt cod), and had a fried calamari appetizer. The calamari was one of the best we've ever had anywhere. The batter was closer to a tempura batter than what I think of as a traditional calamari batter, but it was really great. The squid was perfect... ridiculously tender with no rubbery texture to it whatsoever. The tuna steak was also amazing. Seared perfectly and absolutely melted in your mouth. The salt cod (bacalao) was very good, but compared to the calamari and tuna, it was definitely our least favorite of the 3 dishes we tried. Service was great. It was very attentive without being pushy. The location is very nice, right on the port. The restaurant itself is one of the biggest restaurants I've ever seen. It's three stories, and each floor looks like it could easily accommodate several hundred diners at once. It actually gave us a little cause for concern at first, because we wondered if having such a large restaurant would compromise the quality of the food. However, our concerns were quickly erased once we started our meal. The ambiance inside is nice, without being overly stuffy or fancy. It was pretty casual as far as higher end restaurants go. Yes I had this obsession about the pan but that's just my little request/wish for my birthday trip, I was so excited to see paella in the pan on my table. But then I guess it was the first day working of this young man and he didn't speak fluent English which is fine, I asked him once, and confirmed to another senior staff one more time about my request. However when he served the Paella he just quickly showed me then turn around and pour it onto the plates, I didn't even have time to take picture... They probably saw the disappointment on my face and after a while they re-presented someone else's new pan of paella for me to take pic before serving. I rarely review restaurants. Even more rarely do I write a negative review. However, we came here for my 50th birthday. My awesome fiancé made the reservation. We were on time and promptly seated at a table with a great view. The menu looked fine but pricey. We had picked a wine, decided what to order, but no amount of eye contact or hand waving would bring anyone over to take our order. At the 20 minute mark, my sister went to talk to someone to get a waiter to take care of us. After a few more minutes with no attention, we left. When we told the hostess what had happened on our way out, she was very apologetic, but it was too late for us. We found someplace with much better service and substantially lower prices. read more

I came to this restaurant on the earlier side 9:00 pm without a reservation and was seated immediately. The view from the covered patio was charming and the service was excellent. I shared the Bacalao "esqueixat" and fried calamari. Both had clean simple flavors. Despite my tenancy not to order let alone review a common fried appetizer in the calamari, it was worth noting. I thoroughly enjoyed the shoulder of baked goat or better known as braise goat shank. My partner praised the hake cheeks in a light lemon cream sauce as excellent. We were promptly seated but when we asked for a table overlooking the marina we were denied with the explanation that they "were fully booked". We came here on a Monday night and it could have been a weekend night the atmosphere was electric. The restaurant was very busy but there was still an intimatcy about it. We had amazing prawns to start, cooked in a light batter they were simply devine. For mains we had sole and lobster both were fabulous cooked in garlic butter with some lemon and fried potatoes.
