Although the atmosphere is there the restaurant was just OK in my opinion. The pros are the quick service and pitchers of sangria. The cons are the just OK food. I got the salad which was good and this rigatoni which was dry and undercooked. I did not finish it. The restaurant was super busy and the staff ran it like a well oiled machine. It is in the middle of a busy area and my friend and I sat there talking for a long time. The staff let us stay a little over closing to finish up. read more

Some of the plates we ordered were not bad. But this was heavily overshadowed by very poor service. There were lots tourists and I got the impression they were heavily understaffed. If that's the case they should have at least set expectations. We ended up waiting an hour and a half for our food. When the waiter came to take our order and we started speaking he kept leaving suddenly. Didn't even say anything just walked away. One of the worst restaurant experiences of my life. Disappointed! After seeing a raving review on TikTok I decided to take a gamble and a gamble it was. The veggie paella...NO, the seafood paella was better but not great. I was mixing the seafood rice into the veggie because the veggie was so flavorless. The service was not great. Then the dessert...if a restaurant is blah if they can win me over with a awesome dessert then I can increase the stars. Well this was a FAIL. I ordered my favorite which is the tiramisu.The tiramisu here is a glass container with one ladyfinger at the bottom and a custard that is flavorless. I did not enjoy it AT ALL. Also a good sangria could win me over and that was not a winner either. In my opinion pass this spot. read more

Visited Barcelona with the girlfriend. We wanted to try the paella in Spain. This place was recommended by a local where we picked up our Travel WiFi device. We were advised to avoid large menu restaurants and if it has a lot of pictures, it's a tourist trap and/or frozen, not fresh, paella. Trust the locals! Nice restaurant when we stepped inside. Tables were pretty close to each other. Some were separated by plexiglass. Noise was average and waiters were attentive. Seafood Paella for two was amazing. Tasted fresh and flavorful. Would not recommend at all. The restaurant looks very nice and has pretty good reviews, but my experience was completely different. Our waiter was very rude. Any time we asked a question he said no. Hubby had the steak (medium rare is more like rare in USA). Excellent flavor. We enjoyed Brut Cava (Spanish equivalent of champagne) The aubergine appretizer had amazing flavors with all the toppings - the Aubergine tasted and had consistency of like a cross between an artichoke and Portabella mushroom. It seems so elegant but the food was really just average, and it was a bit more expensive than other places. Nothing so bad but there was not a memorable dish that we ordered. Came here for lunch on a Saturday and we were seated right away. Service was quick when we were ordering tapas, paella and wine. We got the liter house wine for really cheap and it was the best wine we had in the city. We ordered patatas bravas, ham croquettes and a sampler with prawns, calamari, crab potato salad, humus and a 4 person paella. The food was all fantastic, the paella was delicious! Full of people at 11 PM when we needed a snack after a tour went late. -Comfort. Really, the chairs and the tables were just down right comfortable. -Food was fine! Nothing to write home about but not bad. We had the chicken and pesto salad, as well as croquettes (they weren't pretty, but had flavor). I came knowing it was a super touristy spot and got the prix fix Colom Menu. It was totally ok, and the servers were attentive, but nothing special to write home about. The salad was probably the best thing though full of my nemesis radicchio and frisee . The swordfish was a bit tough and overcooked and the tomato confit was a bit sweet. I came here with friends and we thought we were coming into a nice establishment but once we ordered and received the food it was AWFUL! I've never been to a restaurant where they had such bland terrible food. I tried to talk with the manager (Erick) or so he says, about dealing with the meal. Which I took TWO BITES OF. He said that I ordered it and it's my fault that I don't think it tastes good. He offered me another of the exact same dish. My friends ordered the paella and it was the same... bland and terrible. The interior of the restaurant is very nice but the service (especially the manager) is some of the worst I have ever experienced. Unfortunately, the food was just OK. The seafood was a bit overcooked in my paella. The creme caramel was the worst I've had, with a soupy, jiggly sort of texture. We had lunch/early dinner at La Fonda and had a less-than-impressive meal. Upon arriving at our hotel, just around the corner a few blocks, we were recommended this place by the front desk. We arrived, they immediately sat us, and we began our meal. The menu is a bit cryptic but we eventually figured it out and order our entrees. We had a fish dish and a chicken dish and neither was particularly tasty. I mean, they both were by all means edible but, for the price (and this place is a bit pricey), we were not impressed. The staff... meh. Neither good nor bad. I suppose we could write it off as our first meal in a new city but we really did not have any desire to return. Went here to try some paella based off of recommendations from many tourist books and online. You have to have a minimum of two people to order paella because it comes family style. My husband had never had paella before so he was excited to give it a shot. We got paella mixta with meat and fish, in hindsight, I would recommend the paella senoritas (the one without the shells) because taking off the shell of the shrimp in our dish was really annoying. The paella was pretty good, but I've had better homemade paella when I was in Madrid. My husband did enjoy it though, and we both left satisfied and full. The prices here for the paella aren't bad either, and the restaurant has a nice vibe. I believe it's close to or on the border of el Raval, which can be seedy at night, so keep that in mind when you walk home! read more

First time trying paella here! The portions were massive and relatively cheap (~12 euros pp, min 2 per order) and the food was very fresh and flavorful...albiet kind of salty. We got the black fideua which was extremely salty but it balanced out well with the garlic aioli on the side. We also got the tapas sampler - tomato &bread, calamari, chicken croquettes, prawns, and crab salad - which was also a decent order. Atmosphere was very nice and classy despite the average prices! In the heart of Barcelona, a good place to visit with a group. Their 'main' restaurant space accommodate diners with reservations; the second floor space opens at 7:30, and allows for diners without reservations. Our latest visit was with a group, and we had to wait outside for a table (there is no bar space available). I tried the 'grilled baby squid with vegetables' - really, it was fried squid with beans and lentils. The paella was ok. First time to try Fideua there; tasty but a little salty. The grilled vegetable dish is nice to share, so is the 'pan con tomate. They have an extensive wine list, with half bottles in the menu. Three stars for 'good place to try' ... read more

I found this place after a quick search on Yelp, which is located on a side street off La Ramblas. There's actually quite a few restaurants along this alley street, but this place is one of the more popular eateries as I've seen a line outside the door day and night. To start, we ordered the Asparagus Iberico Ham Au Gratin and the Soft Spinach Salad, which were both excellent. My favorite was the asparagus - huge pieces of asparagus wrapped in iberico ham and covered in a creamy cheese sauce. The spinach salad was also tasty, as it was loaded with large chunks of bacon, raisins, generous parmesan cheese shavings, with a mushroom vinaigrette. We ordered the Mixed Paella, as the paella is the house specialty. They weren't as generous with the seafood as other places, but there was still a good amount of prawns, squid, and mussels, as well as some sausage and pork. It was good, but didn't think it was anything to write home about. Quick Tip: Get there around 8PM, when they re-open for dinner and you'll miss the 9PM dinner rush (which is the norm, as people eat late dinners in Spain, but much busier here). read more

Came here on my first day in Barcelona for lunch, per the recommendation of the hotel reception. I ordered the prix fix menu at €11 which included a starter, main, dessert, drink and bread - really good deal! The food itself was a bit hit and miss. My pasta starter with marinara was the perfect texture but a little lacking in overall flavor. My grilled chicken dish was wayyyy too rich and salty. To the the point where I was scraping the sauce off the chicken. The actual meat was really tender though! For dessert, I had a cake with chocolate. Delicious, sweet and rich. I could only handle a couple of bites, but it's perfect for someone with a sweet tooth. Service was actually pretty good especially considering how busy they were during lunch. And most of the people seemed to be enjoying their meals, so I might have just ordered the wrong menu items. But overall I was sadly underwhelmed and likely wouldn't return. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE My husband and I went in for dinner last night and I cannot believe what we experienced. I ordered the La Fonda mixed tapas plate that came with fried calamari, chicken croquettes, cooked prawns etc. I was so excited. I couldn't believe it when the plate came out 1. super fast and 2. 100% COLD. I'm not one to speak up, but everything on the plate was so cold that I knew it had been sitting out for quite some time and then served to the first person to order it. I reluctantly told the server about the problem and she was really nice about it. She took it back and said she'd have them make another. Shortly after, the dish was back. The plate was hot to the touch, so I happily took a bite of a fried calamari. Hmmm...hot, but soggy. Not what you want fried calamari to taste like. Then I realized the items I had taken a bite of when trying them, before realizing they were all cold, were all still there. It was the same exact plate! They seriously took my entire platter of mixed seafood tapas and just stuck it in the microwave!!! Who does that?! Fried calamari and prawns microwaved?!?!?! At that point I just laughed at how little the cooks cared about how their food tasted. I told the server they had microwaved the exact same plate, not even replacing the items I had taken a bite out of. I asked her to take it off the bill and bring us the check. Service and food aren't as good as the restaurant looks. While the host was helpful in getting us a table during a busy time, the service was rushed and impersonal. So different from the friendly, personable waitstaff that we encountered at almost every other place in Spain. My wife and I had the seafood paella - mediocre at best; just not very flavorful. Our adult children did like their pasta dishes - spaghetti carbonara that was actually tossed tableside in a big wheel of parmesan, and tagliatelle with burrata and asparagus.
