Typical gay bar. Sorta dark. Not my type of place, it's just a bar. They have an outside patio, but you can't enjoy the patio as everyone is smoking. I came here on a Thursday and they had $4 martinis. Not crappy Martinis served in a cup or a mixed drink they want to pass off as a martini. No, real, strong, and good martinis. I would usually pay $9 or more for them at bars in Detroit. Also, the food was great! I ordered a Steak special they had and the meat was tender and seasoned well. I had a vegetable dish also and that was great. The portions were decent and they didn't charge me an arm and a leg. I will definitely stop in here again next time in Richmond. read more

The staff is rather pleasant. However, the bartender is very nasty and rude. He will give you the regulations however the bar does not comply with the regulation and accommodate appropriately with their spacing. He will ask you to move or that you cannot be in a specific place WITHOUT having another socially distant place to go to. 15ppl are allowed on the patio, but there were way many more Than 15 on the patio while I was there. The bartenders themselves were not practicing social distancing, and saw them numerous times hugging and kissing customers. Customer service could use an upgrade and don't see myself going back for a while unfortunately. read more

I didn't particularly enjoy it here. I mean it all depends on what you're into, but I was hoping for a dance floor or something like that. I don't have a review for the drinks because I got here at 1:25 am and they were closing and wouldn't serve me. I asked how late they were open and the bartender said "2 am." We both looked at the clock, which showed another 30+ minutes and he goes, "Yeah, we're closed." There were a lot of people in here that would have bought drinks, but apparently the staff wanted to go home. I guess I don't understand the math here. If you're open until 2, doesn't that mean you serve until 1:45? The hours for this business should actually say "Open until 1:30." read more

Great place to come chill, drink, and grab a bite to eat. My girlfriend and I were staying a few blocks away at the Doubletree and had used the Yelp monacle to see what was around us. It was a Sunday night, karaoke night, and it was getting pretty busy. No pretense, drinks are good, and the service is quick and friendly. Definitely recommended. read more

My husband and I spent one night in Richmond while on a road trip. Barcode was a block from the Inn where we stayed. When we walked inside Barcode it was Happy Hour and the waitress smiled and said hello. The place was pretty much full. We found one table near the bar. The food is pretty much standard bar food, which was exactly what we wanted... Nachoes, french fries, hot wings and really good cocktails. I can't say enough about how much we liked our waitress. She was friendly and gave great service. She even answered all of our tourist questions and engaged a few locals who also offered all kinds of things to do and see. We felt instantly at home. I travel frequently for work and have been to many bars, but Barcode stands out as potentially the rudest staff I have ever had to deal with. I opened a tab with one bartender and upon ordering a second drink from the other bartender was yelled at for having not had my tab opened with him. This is the first bar in the world I've been to with such a policy, and the way they went about informing me was uncalled for. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. read more

I love barcode! Its one of my favorite places to go to if I am craving wings or if I need to unwind with my friends. Love the martini specials on Thursdays! Also, my favorite server/bartender is always pleasant and greeting me with a smile (Sam). There are a few servers that are less than friendly but I try not to let one bad apple spoil the bunch. Well right now 3 stars, we walked in asked if they had torch cherry or bacardi lemon and the bartender says no and walks away from us and we clearly see they had what we wanted. 1st time in Richmond and at this bar and not feeling very welcome. Lucky we spotted a 2nd bartender he was much friendlier and was able to serve us what we wanted. We are gonna stay for a couple drinks and try the food. Hopefully things well get better. read more

Bartenders are not attentive. They don't listen at all and just don't seem to care. The management is rude beyond belief. This establishment has a no shits given attitude and just doesn't seem to mind that the clientele is being treated like crap by everyone from the bartender to the owner. No customer should be ignored at a bar hat is fairly slow on a Thursday night. My drink was made wrong when I was specific about what I wanted and when I complained the lead bartender just handed me a random beverage to make up for it. No clue what was in that drink but clearly not what I asked for. Never have I felt like I'd be treated better at a redneck bar than at an LGBT friendly one. I am appalled! read more

I'm a regular patron of Barcode and I can honestly say after my visit there on 9/20/2016 I will continue being a faithful patron not only was the service great as usual ,but I tried the grilled Pork Chop and Cole Slaw all I can say is that it was superb. Barcode in RVA city is one of those kind of bars where it's a hit or miss deal. Some nights are great others not so much. Being a native of Washington, DC overall this bar really isn't impressive at all. Every time I'm here there's different bartenders. There's one female bartender which was absolutely awesome and very friendly. But for the most part, the bartenders act like they can't be bothered. I'm probably being quite biased about all this especially considering that I don't frequent this bar at all. They do serve food which is of course always a plus but that alone certainly wouldn't keep me coming back here. I will say that the staff are generally nice and attentive. I don't like giving any establishment, regardless of what it is such a low rating but unfortunately it's just far too inconsistent to make it worth while. Between, the inconsistency of the drinks to the general unfriendliness of the bartenders, it pretty much deserves the two stars I gave it. read more

Worst bar in RVA. Came in and was told we had to go to the bar to order food even though there is a server who was taking EVERYONE around us orders. The server is the shorter Caucasian male with the beer belly. This is the THIRD encounter with him and he has refused to serve us. He will make it his point to not even look in our direction. We ordered food which he bought out and took to the bartender so she could give it to us so he would not have to give it to us. Overall, the food is below average and not seasoned. The drinks are waaay to strong. And the "server" is trash. Won't be visiting again. read more

This place is not what I expected. My wife and I came out downtown for the first time in a while. We were going to watcha football game and we ended up choosing this bar. Bad decision. When I walked in everybody stared at my wife and I. I was wondering in my head why there was always only men in this bar. But you know me I don't judge so I stayed. My wife and I just minded our own buisness and all the men just kept staring at us and we got very uncomfortable. SO eventually after a couple of cold ones me and wife left. Barcode needs to change the management. The one that has a terrible attitude is Matt., he continuously argues with the customers even when its his fault. He is rude as hell. This is the reason no one tips the damn waiters much in this establishment. The service is poor and they gouge you with prices and serve watered down drink. The place used to rock on a Friday night now its more like a Monday on Friday nights. It has lost the clientele it used to have. Its more like a retirement center on a Friday night.
