    Cast iron ribeye

I decided to come to this place for my birthday dinner with one of my besties. We had always talked about how much we used to go to the Whiskey Grill in the Fan and I decided it was time to come to an easier parking location haha. Plenty of parking but expect it to be full right after work. There are also plenty of seats to choose from when you first walk into this place. (There's some outdoor seatings too but it's the middle of summer so we decided to sit inside.) We both had a cocktail (I can't remember the name) and we decided to start out with their Chorizo Stuffed Bacon Wrapped Dates. HOLY moly, this is a must try for appetizer. (I guess you could share it but I may have to order my own plate for myelf in the future haha.) For the main entree, we decided to split the Cast Iron Ribeye (cooked rare). WOW, this came out PERFECTLY how we wanted it. This dish came with herb butter rosemary potatoes, and brussel sprouts. EVERYTHING was cooked pretty quickly and presentation was appealing. It definitely delivered and was the right portion for both of us. It was super filling because we didn't have room for dessert! (That says alot since I typically have a separate stomach for desserts haha) Highly recommend! The staff was super friendly and helpful when we were discussing the type of whiskey to mix together. Beautiful whiskey wall set up/display and the place is very clean. I will definitely be coming back here!

Plenty of whiskey to choose from!!

Great service, really good food and a ton of whiskey to choose from! So many great options and the bar tender really knew what he was talking about when it came to whiskey.

My wife and I stopped in here to have a drink before we went to dinner at another location. We sat and the bar and the place was not overly busy at the time but it picked up later. The owner started talking to us and he is a very interesting guy. He very much likes to try and pair you up with a whiskey for you and your flavor profile. He actually found a scotch that my wife liked and she does not drink whiskey at all. We decided to stay for dinner. Unfortunately, that was not the best call. The owner left to attend to some personal business and after that the experience was not as good. My wife wanted a steak and she does not like it med rare or even medium. The waiter tried to talk here into medium and she declined... it still came out medium at best. I will say the next day she heated the steak up in a toaster oven and it was really good. My meal was not bad overal. They do have a very good pimento cheese appetizer. I will definitely go back for drinks, appetizers and a cigar. They have an outdoor smoking area for cigars. Also- bourbon and whiskey fans- this is one of the largest collections at a bar i have seen. Plus this gives you an opportunity to try a pour of things that you have heard about but cant find in the current market. He also does his own barrel picks.

While its location at the Regency Shopping Mall in Richmond is a bit odd, there's nothing strange about McCormack's Big Whisky Grill and its reputation as one of the best Bourbon bars in the country. When you walk in you'll be greeted by a gigantic wall of brown water, larger than their original location in The Fan. You'll find almost any bourbon your heart desires as well as a large selection of picks hand selected from distilleries across the country by owner Mac McCormack. On a recent visit, I enjoyed chatting with Mac about Bourbon, the industry, and his own whiskey journey- which you can learn more about on his YouTube channel: @bigwhiskeyrebellion. I can't recommend this place enough if you find yourself in Richmond. Oh if you are hungry definitely get the french fries!

I got the arugula and chicken flatbread which was delicious. I ate the whole thing and I loved it. Would definitely get it again. Got an old fashioned too which was delicious as well. Nice service and friendly staff

We went here on mothers day as i wanted somewhere not to busy. The owner was very nice and knowledgeable. I have seen other reviews being very critical but I think it's because they think this place is like any other. It's not, nor is it ment to be. If you want good food/drink and you don't mind something a little different, you should give this a try. Just remember, it's not Applebee's.

This is a very nice and chill place. Excellent service and a very nice cozy feel. The food was excellent. We started with the creamy shrimp, bacon and artichoke spread. That was very tasty and a good sized portion which was more than enough for the two of us. Mrs had the shrimp and grits. Very nice creamy flavor. I had the burger which was good and flavorful. The fries were spot on. Neither one of us could finish our plates. The selection of alcohol was seemingly endless. We will be back.

If you are in the west end of Henrico County, VA, near Regency Square, I suggest you consider stopping by McCormack's Big Whisky Grill. Take your time to enjoy your cocktail and consider a meal item from the menu. Sensation to the senses.

    Ridiculously amazing selection

To get in, you must know the password or tell the host a joke that makes him laugh. We were escorted in and quickly noticed that this was more than a speakeasy-it was a full restaurant. We stopped in for drinks, but it was nice to have tapas. I got the popcorn with the Tequilla lime butter, which was the perfect balance of salt. I had a mezcal drink which was perfect! I'm such a fan of mezcal and am excited when I see it on the menu. Our waitress was a delight-super attentive and also a bartender so she was able to answer all of our drink questions. It was very spacious with outdoor seating. Definitely a 10/10 experience. I would definitely go again!

It was cooked perfectly. I had the shrimp andouille. It was delicious. We were greeted cheerfully at the door. The wait staff was very good. The restaurant had moderate noise since there was a large party celebrating a birthday. But I was impressed that there were obvious regulars at the bar. The biggest impression they made was calling me after I left a personal item on the seat next to me. While it wasn't something of large value, the fact that they found my number from the reservation and called meant so much to me. Highly recommend

Each & every dish was a culinary creative canvas that enticed, tantalized & totally enthralled our palates. For my cocktail I ordered The Seersucker, which was made with my favorite bourbon Four Roses. The drink was velvety smooth & a soothing complement to my food. As our appetizers we ordered Cornbread, the BBQ Spiced Chicken Wings & the Chicken Fried Pig Ears. Everything was absolutely delightful. The pig ears were an especially nice surprise as they were melt in your mouth tender & full of flavor. There was a horseradish sauce accompanying the pig ears & the sauce was creamy & not overpowering with horseradish flavor[i don't even usually like horseradish but this dish truly gave me a new experience of that flavor]. I would definitely order the pig ears again. The Cornbread was cute & tasted like cornbread I grew up in the Country eating. I could eat a whole skillet of the cornbread. The chicken wings were tender & nicely seasoned. I really enjoyed the white BBQ that was drizzled over them. As our Entrees, we ordered 2 Catfish & 1 Flounder Catch of the Day. Both dishes were delicious. The fish was not overly seasoned, as I so often encountered with seafood dishes, both dishes allowed the diner to actually taste the depth & simplicity of the fish. Both dishes are also items I would order again. Our server was courteous, attentive & knowledgeable concerning menu item choices. When it was time for us to leave, as I think we stayed way past the dining allotment time, the hostess was very respectful in explaining to our table there was a reservation behind us. I appreciate that type of honesty & treatment in a dining facility. As mentioned so many times previously I will be returning to The Roosevelt. They have definitely made a fan out of me.

The lighting is soft, the decor leans into classic old southern, and the whole space feels warm and lived in without trying too hard. The bar is also genuinely pretty and worth a look even if you're just passing through to your table. The service was friendly and inviting without being overbearing. We started with some incredible cocktails before diving into a round of small plates, and honestly the small plates alone could have made for a great meal. The cornbread was delicious, slightly sweet and exactly what you want to kick things off. The fried green tomatoes were a standout and not prepared the way you might expect. Instead of the typical flat slices, they were chopped into smaller pieces and coated in what seemed like a light, puffy beer batter or something like that. The real star of that dish was the Old Bay hollandaise served alongside it, which was incredible. We also had the BBQ spiced chicken wings, which were deeply flavorful without leaning too hard on heat, and the Alabama white sauce they came with was outstanding. For entrees we went with the fried catfish and the ramp stuffed chicken, both of which were excellent. Neither dish disappointed, and both felt thoughtful and well executed. We finished with the Cheerwine cake, which ended up being the biggest surprise of the night. The cake itself had a dense, almost Jiffy cornbread flavor to it, and the icing tasted like a cream cheese base with a subtle but distinct Cheerwine flavor running through it. It sounds like an odd combination on paper but it worked really well. The Roosevelt is the kind of place that earns a return visit, and I'm already looking forward to working through more of their menu.

The salad bar was decent, though I wish there were more options. The meats, however, were flavorful and cooked exactly how I wanted. Upon entering, the hostess greeted us and, at our request, seated us outside because it was a beautiful day. The restaurant venue and ambiance were modern and well kept. The bathroom was clean and nice. The outside seating area was also fairly clean with comfortable seating. Our server (neither my partner nor I caught her name as she said it: she had beautiful braids with blonde streaks woven in) started on the right foot, took our orders promptly, and brought out our waters. I ordered the Smothered Pork Chop, and my partner chose the Fried Chicken, subbed pimento mac and cheese for the collard greens (who can blame her?). The food did not come out promptly. My best guess is that our server was seated with a large table and prioritized a better tip over the two top (us) outside. Eventually, the food came out (~25 minutes, so not terrible), but for the number of patrons in the restaurant, it was too long. My partner's mashed potatoes were cold, but she said the fried chicken and mac and cheese were fantastic. The potatoes tasted delicious, but they were simply not warm. My pork chop was very thick, like a filet, which is okay, but it wasn't what I expected. I prefer a thin pork chop, so that it cooks all the way through (more solid, not soft). It was passable. The beans and rice (Hoppin' John) were also not what I was expecting; I was thinking more New Orleans-style, but they were bland, like cream of mushroom soup on unseasoned beans and rice. We ordered the banana pudding for dessert. We ended up waiting for that for ~20 minutes as well, a half-pint glass of banana pudding with underripe bananas mixed in. Note to the chef: heat ripens bananas, so you could toss a few in a skillet with a little oil in a pinch (egg yolks also work). We waited for another 10 minutes, and I finally went inside and asked the hostess for the check. I realize it is difficult to serve, but you must also consider asking your colleagues for help if you have too much going on. All in all, the food was satisfactory, but the service was lacking. We ended up waiting an hour longer than we should have had to. I semi-recommend Farm and Oak, but look to be seated with the better server, John. He and the hostess saved our experience.
