One of my favorite bars in Scott's Addition. It can to be a little windy being a rooftop bar so just something to be mindful of but its always nice having a drink viewing the Richmond skyline. They play great music and have great djs on each floor and even when it's really busy upstairs you can retreat to lower levels to chill for a second. Definitely a fun time. read more

This night will go down in my memory banks for sure! It was a balmy, rainy evening and my fam and I went bar hopping! I gotta tell you, it was a trip for my hubby and I to go out with our grown kids and their spouses. We had a blast! The Hof was our last stop... parking in Scott's Addition was a pain, but we trudged thru the rain and several puddles to get in! And I'm glad we did because this place was hopping. We are old so we didn't get carded, haha! The doorman was like, yeah, your grey hair is your I.D.! We did see a few other silver heads at the bar, but mostly they cater to the 25-35 year old crowd. The music was great! If people weren't dancing in the aisles, they were "chair dancing" in the booths and at the bar. Football was on the tv, for the sports fans! At one point my daughter started a Conga line and a bunch of people joined in and we danced around the whole bar... it was a hoot! The DJ kept the songs coming, one tune melded into the next... so many 80's and 90's throwbacks! It was a good time! For drinks, several of us got the Truly hard seltzers and they were fruity and refreshing, while others got beer and cocktails. The bar tenders were in their A game. We didn't get a chance to check out the rooftop view due to the rain, so that's in the agenda next time we get a wild hair! Maybe we will try some food next time too! Lol! My hubby and I haven't been bar hopping for years, we don't really frequent the bar scene... but we felt like kids again tonight and the Hof was a fun place to top off the night! read more

Nice rooftop bar well located in Scott's Addition. Something that's easy to forget about rooftop bars: well, they're elevated. I recommend bringing a jacket or coat even if it is warm on the sidewalk. It tends to be a little windy at the hof. It's very cute up there too with nice standards of white lights and seating that goes all around the roof. You can get a cute pic of the sunset or the Richmond skyline. We appreciated that, while the hof bills itself as a beer garden, you can get mixed drinks and cocktails -- not limited to just beer. This was a cute spot to drop by. read more

Came here after work. Rooftop is nice. Definitely would only come here if it was happy hour. The food was not worth the price. The pizza was probably worse than frozen pizza from the grocery store pizza. I was holding out hope for the crab dip but even that was very subpar. The best thing was the pretzels and mustard LOL. On a weekend visit with a friend, I wanted to find a nice rooftop bar. We made a reservation online and came around sunset. The rooftop is really cute! There are a bunch of tables and high tops spaced out for people to sit at at a safe distance. We ordered some beers and cocktails and they were good. They have a decent selection of food, but that's where we were disappointed. My pizza came out cold. It was not appetizing. My friend's charcuterie board was just okay. This is definitely a better place to just get a drink and enjoy the outdoors. I would come back, but probably forgo the food. read more

I would never give this place my business again. Bartender was rude and acted as if we, the patrons, were annoying her by asking for service. Drink was overpriced and not that good. All of that would be enough to not go back but it got even worse.... They were having some sort of bridal shower or something similar on the roof top. My boyfriend and I had already picked our spots but had to go to the bar to order our drinks. We walk back over and I'm getting situated and the next thing I know one of the guests of the bridal shower essentially pushes me away and says "sweetie we need to take a group photo." Didn't ask politely if I could step aside for a moment to take a photo just took it upon herself to shoo me off. Like they owned the rooftop. Oh and my boyfriend was walking over to our spot and they cut him off entirely. The Hof Garden is trash. The view isn't even pretty it's just a bunch of buildings. Stay away from this place unless you want to be put in a bad mood. read more

I'm loving this German-themed rooftop/interior taproom hybrid in Scott's Addition! The atmosphere is so cool and chill (at least during off times...I haven't risked going on a weekend night). I first visited a few weeks ago and enjoyed the cool breeze on the rooftop with a stellar sour pour in a plastic cup for $7. Yesterday, I stopped by with a friend and her two kids around opening, and it turned out they were celebrating 'Hoptoberfest'! So fun!! They had a full band playing traditional German tunes on the roof. We could hear the music perfectly even as we walked down the street. Loved it! They also had giant Jenga, and the kids had a blast. The manager Bobby is really nice as well, and the bartenders are sweet as well (but pls don't make comments about guessing patrons ages. It gets old hearing how I look underage all the time!) The Hof offers a bunch of food items as well -- lots of pork and carb-loaded dishes -- but I've yet to try anything. One day! read more

Came here last week while my friend was in town visiting and it was a beautiful day outside, so a rooftop bar sounded perfect! We had such a good time that night, we went again the day after! Finding our way up to rooftop was a little interesting, but once we made it up stairs and to the elevator, we were good. We got up to the rooftop and grabbed drinks at the bar and found a seat. The views were great, and the sun was about to set each time we were there. The music was a good mix and it was just a great, chill scene. On our way out, we went through another bar area downstairs and it had good music as well. I will definitely be checking out this place more in the future! read more

I really enjoyed my first visit to the Hof Garden. It's a more casual and relaxed atmosphere than some of the other rooftop bars in town. There was an incredibly varied demographic, from older couples in biking gear and middle aged women having a girls' night out, to both jean cut off and Lilly Pulitzer-donning millennials and yuppies. On a nice day it's a great spot to enjoy some beer, listen to music, and watch the sunset, or even fireworks from over the Squirrels Stadium. Beers are reasonably priced and there is a decent selection. I particularly recommend their traditional weiss beer as well as the sour cherry. Pierogis and pretzels were both good, although service can be a bit slow, especially if it is crowded. read more

Location and Ambiance- They have seating at rooftop with a city view. They also have place to sit downstairs but rooftop is much better. Ample seating and well lit up at night. Sometimes they do play live music which is great. Service- we were received by a server who greeted us with some dance moves. He got us a table and then for a very long time nobody even acknowledged us. Anyways we asked for a menu and we were told there aren't any left and are being printed currently. We were still able to get some used ones from the other table. There was nobody to take our order so we ended up going to the bar area and getting a drink for ourselves which they initially refused saying that a server will take your order. My first time here for brunch and certainly will be my last. Thankfully the hostesses was accommodating and the waitress was sympathetic. Ordered 9 different dishes, all arrived cold or luke warm. Not only were they cold, but they took 30-40 minutes to come out. Cold? No heat lamp? 30-40 minutes to cook some eggs? For it to turn out cold?? Incredibly displeased with the portions. Tacos came with 5 pieces of potato on the side and did not come with all the listed menu fixings. My friend said their dish looked like left overs. Hair in someone's drink. Hair in someone's food. This is a cool space in Scott's addition. I'm reviewing the bottom floor, not the event space or rooftop. The bartenders are friendly! Typical drinks or beer on tap or in bottles. I haven't tried any cocktails here besides typical vodka cran. I come most for the atmosphere. I'd come for some trivia nights which is pretty fun, you get some prizes if you win. The service, as well, has always been attentive and friendly. And if you want to have an event at The Hof, Bobby is REALLY great to work with. We have been to this beer garden twice and it is our absolute favorite place in Richmond. The rooftop is by far the best in the city. The ambiance, and views are amazing. Their frozen gin and tonic is my favorite here. They add elderflower to it and that elevates this drink to a new level. We took our out of town friends there and they loved it as well. I tried their frozen froze yesterday and I think I might have a new favorite. They have some cool games as well such as Jenga and connect 4. The staff is very attentive and nice. Since moving to Richmond last year I've been wanting to visit the Hof for a while now. With the reopening of local businesses I saw them being one of them and the beautiful weather being my motivation I decided to grab my mask and give them a shot. I'm a sucker for a cool patio and definitely love a rooftop situation so that's the only reason I'm giving this place 3 stars. The Good: I was greeted by a nice hostess upon entering who explained all of the necessary safety precautions the establishment was taking in regards to social distancing and reopening guidelines. I found it very helpful and reassuring that they were taking their customers health into consideration. The Bad: I made a reservation online at their request for 2 because I thought someone would be accompanying but that fell through so I was alone for the evening. I was taken to a table in the very back away from the nice views. Totally killed my rooftop experience to be sitting next to the noisy generator or air conditioner. Not really sure what it was but it was loud af. The table was filthy as was the padded bench. I'm glad I'm carrying my own disinfectant wipes these days so I cleaned it off myself. So much for safety precautions. The menus are accessible online by taking a picture of the QR code on the table. As the waiter asked if was ready to order, I inquired if the spinach dip was cheesy as I know everyone makes it differently. He reassured me that it was so I went with it. As it came out I saw that it had NO cheese. Then I tasted it and it was the worst spinach dip I've ever consumed. When he came back I said, "I thought you said it was cheesy?" He says to me it is. There's mozzarella in it. I'm like no dude but whatever bad proceeded to order a cheese pizza to replace it. Pizza comes out and I'm wondering why I was never given any plates. I look around and the other people around me have plates. I asked the waiter why didn't I get a plate and he says because I'm alone. Smh I'm done at this point. Oh the pizza was tasty however it was very soggy to have to eat it with no plate. I left disappointed. read more

I absolutely love this place! The ambience is exactly what Richmond needed for a rooftop bar. I've been here on several occasions now and I have to say that the reggae on the rooftop has been my favorite night so far. I have tried 2 of their pizzas, which were delicious and I've had several of their frozen drinks too. I will say that I think their frozen drinks are a little overpriced. $12 for a tiny sized frozen drink seems a bit much. The only thing that kind of turned me off was the smell of burnt food coming from their pizza oven. Overall the view from the rooftop and the atmosphere with friends is an absolute must when you come to Richmond. I will absolutely be back. read more

Usually I am very laid back and give good reviews but this was rough. It took us 2 hours to get an order of cheese fries just to be met with a very poor attitude from the bartenders about it. On a recent visit, the combination of little to no service and had very little product, left no reason to be there except that they have a rooftop. And to top it off, the wait staff was very rude and completely unhelpful. My gut feel is they are having staffing problems like many other restaurants. The Hof has great happy hour deals: half off beer, wine, pizza. Otherwise, the drinks are pricey because you get half pours of all drinks in a small plastic cup. You're definitely visiting for the view and good vibes. All their selections are great- I hope they rotate them throughout seasons!
