While the Bargain Center is a great place to visit, the name--to me--is a misnomer. The prices are high. It is floor to ceiling of interesting things: fun to amble through and look around. There's a lot of items from the past and likely something for anyone that enjoys antiquing or thrifting, but for me, the prices leaned higher than a five star rating for a bargain. read more

Wow. Wild and weird. Such a range of stuff. Odds are you'll find something odd in there you like... and maybe only you! Not always cheap... unless it's that weird thing you were exactly looking for even if you didn't know that. Fun just to wander through on a walk. read more

I really can't stand markets and shops in today's society that ONLY TAKE CASH, we live in a world where there Venmo, cash app, debit cards, Square, and so much more to take cards or digital payments. To then have to send your customer away to go a block down the street to use an atm and come back is really terrible! Also, if there was an obvious sign before you go in, especially for people who randomly find this place, to know it's cash only, perhaps they would make plans to get cash before parking and finding things they like, to only have to put it down, and then leave and decide is the trek to get cash is really worth some, somewhat ok priced neat items. I love this store, LOVE vintage shopping, but take card or digitize payments people, COME ON! read more

I really really enjoyed my happenstance visit to Bargain Center. My friend and I were just wandering the streets after an awesome brunch and we couldn't help but stop in and explore. I am a glutton for a good second hand shop and could easily have been lost for hours in this little treasure trove. Bargain Center is a magical maze of goodies and every surface and wall area is covered. Without a doubt there is something for EVERYONE and there were a lot of things for me lol. Tormented by the reality that my suitcase only had so much extra room in it for oddities, well-read paperbacks, and miniature paintings of Frida Kahlo, I had to go the less is more route. I went with the Frida Kahlo wall tile and it looks perfect, perched on my little shelf in my room. The staff woman was friendly and gently let us know that we couldn't bargain down our hand painted items, which we respected. I would love love love to go back for more. This time I'll come prepared with a little extra room in my luggage. read more

Oh for the love of everything that will overload your senses! I was in the area seeing the sights and making stops at will when we drove by this. I had to stop. Overflowing with costumes, clothing, varies from older Americana to Latin America, there is just so much to look at. I will be back for some of the home decorations. It's a place with an amazing collection of stuff, located in the heart of the Bywater. All kinds of inventory here, ranging from antique furniture, costumes, knick knacks and general curiosities. A terrific place to waste some time looking at stuff you can't live without. Recently however, the prices have gone up, you see prices that mention the "rental" price for a lot of the really weird stuff. I am sure the movie prop people have made they way here and the increased in Hollywood money has jacked up some of the prices. read more

Great stuff but you will need to dig a bit. Owner pulled out Halloween items for display. Some Mardi gras items to chose from. There's a cute coffee shop kitty corner to this shop so grab a cup of joe and browse. We'll be back. read more

I recently moved to Bywater from Oakland. I'm from Philadelphia originally and have always loved thrift shopping have used them to furnish my home. This shop is cool because it's in the neighborhood, and it has a very large selection. They have furniture, clothes, housewares, books, etc. Honestly, as a thrift store aficionado, I was disappointed with the prices on the furniture. I saw a busted up, 10 inch wooden handyman stool for $35. Idk, to me it's like, just because it's from New Orleans doesn't mean it's an antique. I do like a lot of the things that I have, I guess I just wish they had thrift shop prices. read more

I was super excited to go here since it's only a few blocks away from my house. I thought I could just pop in and grab a dresser or a coffee table, but I was in for a bit of shock when I noticed the price tags. Not really sure why the shop is named "Bargain" Center, when everything is overpriced. Don't get me wrong, the place is unique. There were some cool pieces I was interested in, but holy shit, not at those prices. Definitely worth peeking your head into but don't expect to walk out with anything. read more

Definitely one of the more eclectic inventories around, you can find everything from church pews to traffic signs to Mardi Gras Indian head dresses (and pretty much everything in between). Prices are generally pretty good, though some items leave me scratching my head a bit. read more

True junk stores are a disappearing breed and this is one of the best. You can pretty much lose yourself here for several hours among the piles of old magazines and ornaments, furniture, vintage toys, sixties clothing and posters. Its a one stop flea market experience that shouldn't be missed. What's surprising is that the owners do more than just mind this colorful treasure trove but actually assist, and give great assistance at that! I needed to get some things shipped and they went out of their way to ensure it happened even after I'd left town. read more

I'm a thrifting aficionado from San Francisco. I found some of the larger items to be great deals but of coarse couldn't get them home. While I only bought 2 things, I'd definitely say it's worth a visit b/c as any well versed thrifter knows, some days are gonna be a total score and some are gonna come up a little short. Also, I went to another thrift shop next door (maybe called the Stop Shop) and bought a bunch of things from Chet. So overall, the net for goods was thumbs up! read more
