Chock full of useful, if you like utilitarian, but don't expect service and definitely wear protective shoes. There's a lot going on in this tiny shop; the aisles are narrow and high and stocked FULL. Glassware of every kind, a wide selection of white tableware (everything will match for once!) and even some great wooden dishware. Trays, some china, bakeware, kitchen goodies... they have pretty much what you need. It's not Surfas or Williams-Sonoma- it's Bargain Fair, so you probably get what you pay for. Bargain Fair is right around the corner (A+ for location), incredibly inexpensive (A++ for prices) and crowded like whoa (I'll give them an A for effort but B for how packed the aisles are). Like, no kidding - do not take a big purse into Bargain Fair because there's a chance you might knock down half of their inventory. The store supplies a lot of restaurants in Los Angeles - big, small, chains and unique places; but my favorite thing is that you can buy in whatever quantity you want, meaning you aren't dropping all your money to get some class in your kitchen. I've been shopping at this store for over 30 years. They have amazing prices, great variety, and excellent service. You can find stuff there that you can't anywhere else. They sell plates, spoons, forks, and glasses by the piece, so you are never forced to buy a whole set. Shopping there is an adventure. Bargain Fair is useful if you have a restaurant or cafe and want to purchase bulk items for your place. They don't have a lot of high quality things, and sure it's all made in China, but you can get some decent flatware/dinnerware and utensils for less expensive than say, a Surfas, Sur La Table, or Williams-Sonoma. The place itself is packed, and the narrow aisles make it feel cluttered inside. And don't expect much help from any of the staff. I didn't buy anything, but it's mentally bookmarked ;) read more

There were some good prices, but better can be found at other discount kitchen supply stores. I've walked or driven past this place for years and years but went in for the first time this weekend. Was in search of a tea kettle and found a good choice of styles sizes and very reasonable price points. For comparison cost plus world market had no tea kettles in stock except the ornamental iron faux Japanese type. OXO Bodum and other brands found here. Wandered the crowded aisles and while it was pretty hard to resist picking up some random kitchen items... I usually go to Sur La Table at Farmer's Market for the latest and greatest in kitchen products but I heard about this place and decided to check it out. They have a ton of merchandise but it's geared more toward a professional kitchens and restaurants, it's "functional not fancy". I did buy several dough scrapers that were probably 90% less than what SLT charges and had to resist many other small bits. I highly recommend stopping here and browsing even if you don't need anything immediately, you'll know to check this place first. It's LA so we expect to have to hunt for a parking space but I've always had luck finding a premium space by the front door or around the corner. Why 4 stars? It's a big dusty, cramped and even dingy but I think their prices make up for it. read more

I burnt my tea pot! I started boiling water for my morning cup of tea but there was one problem, there was no water in the pot! Oy to the vey! After researching ways to try and clean or salvage it, I eventually gave up and decided to paint it and turn it into art. I headed over to Bargain Fair, down the street from where I live. They seemed to have everything from the window. I was certain I would find a replacement kettle for cheap. Eh, not so much. This place is jam packed full of kitcheny stuff. They have everything but the kitchen sink. Actually, they might have some of those too. The walkways are packed and cramped. Workers are restocking while you are trying to shop, making the aisles even smaller. There were a few tea pots but they were kinda small and seemed a little over priced for a "bargain fair". While I was there, I decided to look for a porcelain filter cone to make pour over coffee. No one knew what I was talking about. 0 for 2. If you are looking for something specific, you might have a hard time here. If you are just casually browsing, you might actually find a bargain. Good luck! read more

My son and I popped in today for a last minute thermometer for my mom to use for Thanksgiving (she's not usually in charge of the turkey). Cons: Here's the deal. This store offers much of the same as Ross when it comes to consumer kitchen wares, at around the same price. Pros: What IS worth the trip is the wholesale supply. They have ceramic and glassware that you would see in low to high end restaurants. To be able to buy items individually, that are typically only sold by the tens and hundreds, was a treat. You can find (mini and regular sized) cast iron pans/skillets starting around $10.. not bad because they're so versatile. So I wrote a review for this place about a year ago, in which I stated I had driven nearly two hours to arrive at their store after checking their website to be certain they where open. When I arrived in the middle of the day, during business hours no one was there. After posting the review the owner responded with an apology, fixed the misprint, and offered a discount off my next purchase. Well that wasn't until today over one year later!!! I'm glad to say she kept her word and honored the discount! I appreciate good business dealings and people who are truthful and trustworthy. So thank you Bargain Fair for being awesome. We like shopping at the Pico store too, but the Beverly store is really well stocked and has a few more options. Well first of all this place is extremely overpriced for the low-grade Poor quality bar and restaurant utensils that they offer. Had they decent prices I might stop by in an emergency (owning and operating four bar restaurants can be demanding) But nothing could resolve the situation that you will be thrown into by having to deal with the horrible complacent a**h**es they have on staff. I spent a decent amount of money at this location, The item I purchased turned out to be bogus it did not work at all I suspect that it is a black market copy and never was meant to work. They might be an ideal location for Hollywood bars and restaurants however they do not back up their product and nothing you buy there will be returnable no matter what they say when you buy it... Extremely disappointed. Nightmare to deal with. My first Yelp review ever. But I could not let this pass. I would give this place zero stars, but you can't. Customer service -- Forgeddaboutit!! Let me first say that I have shopped at this store off and on for OVER 30 years, first time in 1976. But I will not be going back except to redeem a store credit for an item they would not give a refund on (which I'd rather not do, but I'm not going to let them keep my money for nothing). And I had to argue with them to get that far. They were set on letting me eat my hard earned money. I bought a sink stopper for my kitchen sink. Got it home, put in in the sink, filled it with dishes and water, left them to soak. When I came back there was no water in the sink, so I pulled out the dishes and pulled out the stopper. The rubber on it was all cracked. Went back the very next day. They said they could not give me a refund because it was USED!!!! Well how would I know it was defective unless I used it?!?!? So buyer beware. If you use it it's yours, come heck or high water. But this customer would rather get some customer service. Even all the dollar and ninety-nine cents stores around town let you return items that are defective. They lost a good customer after 37 years. read more

I've been shopping at Bargain Fair sporadically over the past 17 years, and quite simply there is good news and there is bad news about this place. First the GOOD: Great prices on all kinds of kitchen related items. This place is stocked to the gills with kitchen accessories, and everything is reasonably priced. The fact that everything can be purchased piece by piece is just handy. If you need a good cheap spoon or knife, this is the place. If you need a good cheap dinner plate or ice bucket, this is the place. And the list just goes on and on. Now, the BAD: The wait at the cash register when you actually want to checkout and buy something? Excruciating. It's one thing to stand in line at Costco or somewhere where there are 15 lines and they are all long because the place is so popular. But this place has gotten more and more unbearable with the wait times. And it's always just one person at the register, just tinkering along... looking back and forth at their computer trying to locate prices or search for stock, while everyone else in line wanting to just make a quick purchase is SUFFERING. I mean, is it really that hard to hire a second person to work the other cash register? So for those considering shopping here, If you need those couple of steak knives for dinner tonight and you think you're just gonna pop in here real quick and buy them, think again. Better bring a magazine to read while you wait in line. Also, I recall from years ago that the attitude at the counter was friendlier. Recently I stopped in to return an item that I had bought by mistake. The item was still in packaging, obviously unused. And after waiting (the usual) grueling amount of time to get up to the register for my return of a $6 item, I am met with extreme coolness and unfriendliness. I get it, they don't really love returns, but does the fact that I've been shopping here for going on 2 decades now, perhaps entitle me to some basic polite counter service? Apparently not. I've shopped here a few times and was quite impressed with they're selection. The last time I was in the shop I bought, amongst other things, some small pie tins. After using them once and washing them they turned out full of rust and they were obviously unusable. Took them back to the shop, showed them to the lady and she said she can't do anything about it because that only happens when they left in water - something which I obviously wouldn't do, I know better than that. So thanks Bargain Fair, now I know your customer service sucks! It's really not about the product, it was under $4 and I could clearly just replace it with another. But the product you sold me is defected, and the fact that you'd rather turn me away with no solution than just say sorry says a lot about your business. Bargain Fair, I love you. Where else could I get many of the same designs as Crate + Barrel and Williams-Sonoma, for many dollars less? As I mentioned they have many modern knockoff designs, interspersed with high and low end restaurant/kitchen products, a wide range of everything. And MUCH better than the relatively limited choice you will find at a store like a Target. If you don't need your selection curated by a place like Crate & Barrel, this is the place for you. I have an unhealthy obsession with this place. Don't get deterred by the semi- difficult ( on the corner of an EXTREMELY difficult intersection...but hey, that's living in a city) location, and lack of parking. This place is worth the trip. I do a great deal of cooking, and sometimes am in need of certain cookware that I don't have, and am not willing to splurge on. This place is perfect. It has fair priced yet quality equipment. The pots, pan, Dutch Oven, etc are all in perfect working order, and I've had them for years. The staff is really helpful and the owners are kind. Finally, as silly as this feels to admit, on random occasions, I'll get a " Happy Cooking" from the owner on the way out. That never ceases to make me smile. I bought an electric kettle few months ago that was defective in structure to the extent that hot boiling hot water was spilling all over every time I was trying to get the water into a cup. Chefs choice brand clear kettle is very unsafe to use!!! Owner didn't not want to replace it with another product that is safer to use and neither return my money back.
