Someone else hit my car and their insurance company was supposed to pay everything (they're the one that told me I had to use Hertz) and Hertz is trying to charge me and refuses to invoice the insurance. Adding extra charges like $400 to clean the car are you kidding me!? They are a complete nightmare. Oh, and try to actually get through to a person. Good luck. I've actually canceled my credit card and notified them that they were fraudulent charges.

The customer service at Green Vans is friendly, responsive and personal. For an additional fee, they were able to deliver and later pick up the van to my work location in Boston and kept me posted via email and text as to when the van was delivered and where the key was left. The fee was well worth it in my opinion. They also removed the back row so we would have more room for luggage. That request is all part of the online confirmation process. Super easy and very clear instructions and fee structure. No hidden fees. Will definitely use again if and when the need arises in the future.

When I initially called, Cesar wasn't sure they had anything available, and after hearing our story, couldn't believe it, and said there may be one van left. He wasn't even in the office at the time, but when he confirmed that there was a van left, he went into the office to meet us. When i tell you that this man saved our vacation I am not lying, he also saved us money too, the other place was almost double what Bargain Rent A Car charges. We'd chosen Budget because it was marginally less expensive than its competitors. Some kind friends agreed to drive us out to North Hampton (which was quite far from where we were staying), but it was most convenient for them to take us earlier, around 9:30 AM. We tried calling to alert the Budget office, but here's where it got weird. Every time we called, we'd either get disconnected or forwarded to what sounded like someone's personal (and unintelligible) cell phone voicemail. We even tried calling the Budget 800 number, which gave us another (wrong) number to try. After leaving several messages, we figured we'd drive over -- usually it's not a big deal to pick up a car early. When we got there, it was a tiny office on the side of a busy road, with temporary-looking Budget banners. The solitary employee took his sweet time washing off a car before entering the office, where he kept us waiting for almost 15 minutes. He had a strong accent and was difficult to understand. We told him about the difficulty we'd had in phoning, but he seemed totally unconcerned. At first he said he had no compacts, and that we could rent a full-size car, and started filling out the paperwork. But then he called his supervisor, and informed us (after 15 minutes!) that we'd have to come back three hours later to get the car we'd reserved, even though there were others there at the lot. So we had to ask our kind friends to bring us back later. Very frustrating! When we came back, it was another time-consuming rental process, involving lots of phone calls made by him. When I asked for a map of the area, he had nothing except a tourist cartoon map of two towns that were 20 minutes away. As we drove the car, we noticed an exhaust odor, and my husband and I both experienced upset stomachs and headaches. Concerned about possible carbon monoxide, we drove the rest of the time with the windows down. So, let's review: service = lousy, car = lousy, price= not too good, location = also lousy. It will be a LONG time before I rent from Budget again, and I don't have a good feeling about the long-term survival of the North Hampton, NH branch.
