Took my grandson. The crew was awesome. So welcoming and friendly. It was my grandson's favorite trip ever!

It's a balmy morning in Lantana, FL and I am packing my small travel bag for a 4-hour fishing excursion with Bar Jack Fishing. Sunblock - check, Hat - check, water bottles - check, small towel - check and now I am ready. I've never been on this boat before, Lady K. I have no idea what it will be like. But I planned to have the morning off and just the thought of being out on the ocean was enough to get me to go, fish or not, I am going to have a good morning. I arrive and to my delight, there are only about 8 people on the boat, it's a Tuesday morning, and I know I will feel safe with lots of "social distancing." My only small concern in the fee went from $40 to $60 and when asked why I was told; COVID 19. OK, I get it, the boat's at 1/2 capacity and it's not like I have to add a new expense item to my weekly budget, but after today, I may just do that! We take off and the sky is so beautiful, the sun is up and the cloud formations are majestic. We are about 15 minutes out from the doc and I feel so happy being on the ocean in the fresh air; the ocean scent, the sun and warmth (it's not too hot yet) and the smooth ride is making my think of a why I came to Florida in the first place. Captain Frank and his first mate Bobby are out helping us get set up with bait and in my case rod and reel. I asked about the cost of my loaner, Bobby responded it would cost about $300 to replace. I held on even tighter at that point. We find our first spot, I am told to let it out all the way and hit the bottom, we are "drift fishing" which is simply letting the natural drift of the ocean and light wind move us along. People are catching fish! I apparently am feeding fish! My bait keeps disappearing in bites as they eat around the hook. Smart little buggers. I am an hour in and I get a hit! It's a big one, feels like a whale, but it's actually much smaller and it finds a way to get free before I pull him up. This happens now several times and I am pretty sure there's a sign on my hook that says "beginner" and the fish know it. Finally, I catch a sweet little yellow tail and I am so happy! It was almost the end of the trip so the timing was perfect. A delightful ride back to shore and Captain Frank offers to filet my fish for me. A few others didn't want their yellow tail so it became part of my take home. Later that evening, a scrambled egg, a little breading, a fresh lemon and a hot iron skillet was all I needed to have a memorable dinner. A great way to end a delightful day on the ocean. A huge thank you to the captain and crew of the Lady K. We went out on a really rough day and the captain still was able to put us on some keeper fish. The mates were fast and stayed busy. They coached some of the rookies in our party and even taught me and another seasoned fisherman a new trick or two. The young lady has her captain's license already and is working towards a career in fishing and navigation. The boat is large and comfortable and ran pretty dry on our windy day (20k ENE) with high seas to 9' if you have a chance don't miss a trip on the Lady K. After this attempt at a pleasurable fishing experience trip... NOT the case. As written all over the boat, "No Smoking" that clearly was NOT the case. We also had the unpleasant experience of the deck hands cleaning with bleach while we still on the boat .....toxic experience. We spoke with the deckhand about the No Smoking he said "we only do that at the back of the boat". Yeah right..., not! Plus, should smoking take place on a vessel with the public on board ? When we also mentioned the bleach experience he blew it off our comment. Will not be returning to this vessel. By the way , maybe having less people on a boat like this with multiple fishing lines getting tangled might help productivity and patron pleasure! read more

We had a great experience! I do have to mention we were worried we wouldn't be able to go on the boat - 9 people had to atleast sign up, which made me wonder if 9 people didn't come - we wasted time and gas driving there! However the experience was awesome! My in-laws came in from China - and they wanted to fish! It was either this place or some place in Jupiter. Was glad I picked Bar Jack - crew was courteous - especially Mike, he made the trip worth it! We caught 7 fish. We first try catching the big fish - if that doesn't work at - they don't send you home fish less, they send you to the other side of the boat for a almost for sure catch! Ive been on this boat twice so instead of 3 stars I will be generous and give 4. Fist off I was here in December of 21 and recently April of 22.I didn't notice the smoking issue that others have said In Dec I went out the water was like glass I caught some nice fish and there was some real big fish caught but I enjoyed myself I forgot the mates name he was a little to much but he provide good service. In April the ocean was rough but I checked the weather I expected that I caught a lot of small fish triggers and what not. The mate George I think that was his name was attentive talked a lot but he did his job efficiently. I've been fishing for 50 years and all you part time fisherman I want to give you some advice spend $150 to $200 get yourself a nice rod and reels because all these boats from bayride to Boca give crap rods and reels.I always bring my own. read more

I walked in waiting for Sushi Bon next door to open in 12 minutes at 11:30am so I came in to look around and check out some info on the drift fishing trips and their fishing rods!!! I was alone in their for about a solid 2 minutes. Then a little skinny dirty dark blonde adult that acted like a teenager popped out from a room behind the counter .... as soon I told him I was waiting for Sushi Bon to open he immediately was not happy with my presence. I was distracted by their actually awesome merchandise so I was looking around and once I got to the rods and reels he said "if you don't mind I got a lot to do" at which point I was actually stunned... I literally couldn't believe what I just heard ‍ I am a business owner and my potential clients are literally my reason for existence! Without them I am nothing! I was just blown away that someone could run off a client like that! I had seen 3 items I was going to purchase. A beautiful Calcutta insulated bottle for $16 a $30 pair of small scissors and a $356 fishing pole that I had just laid my eyes on when he told me to basically get out because he was busy in the back ‍ oh and a pair of needle nose pliers for $9. Even that little $8 white filet knife was calling me! On top of that I was literally planning on doing a fishing trip with these guys for the price but I'm all about paying for good customer service but unfortunately this guy just completely left me speechless. I know if I had someone treating my potential clients like this I'd want to know. I have gone on this boat three times for night time fishing from 6:30-10:30. It is a standard drift boat fishing vessel probably taking about 40 passengers. First time I came and had a great experience I caught fish and had lots of laughs. I was a little disappointed not to be able to use my rod because it had braided line on it but their rods were decent. They give you bait and are helpful with your needs. They are pretty friendly and funny too. The restrooms.on the boat are always clean and stocked. I think this may be my favorite boat in the area. What I don't like is that you spend about almost half.of that time looking for the spots. They also do not allow you to drink on the night boat which is not my preference but I can understand they dont want people getting crazy on the boat. Everything else is on point. I also like that they offer an educators discount which is a way to celebrate our under paid teachers. They also will.hook up guppy rigs for beginners or kids. A royal nightmare. Before flying down from GA, renting a hotel room, renting a car, I called to make sure they were going out even though the weather was bad. They assured me they always went out on every scheduled trip regardless, so I came down. To maximize my fishing time, I planned to try to go out on the night boat and then come back and go out again on the evening boat. I get there for the night boat and no one is even there to tell me to bark at the moon. Realizing these people are completely unreliable, I try another outfit in Ft. Lauderdale (Fishing Hindquarters) who also swears up and down they absolutely positively are going out the next morning - and then cancels at the last minute because there aren't enough people to make the trip profitable. I wasted an entire weekend and worse lost $600 (!!!) because of these clowns. NEVER AGAIN. read more

First time going and definitely not the last. Even though I was super nauseas lol. Took Dramamine and didn't help me but hey it was totally worth it!!! Captain Frank was awesome and he fillets the fish you catch for you at the end, make sure to tip because that's nice of him to do. Shipmate Ashley was super awesome! Well knowledged and very helpful. I don't typically review unless there is awesome service or something of concern. This is on the concern side. First thing no one is wearing a mask.. I get it people are tired of wearing masks but still feel people should wear mask in the service industry. Which should have been an indication that I should go else where. I stayed, and if that was my only complaint then I would not be writing this. I first noticed a fellow patron smoking on the dock - ok there are lots of no smoking signs on the boat - those are for appearance only because as soon as we were under way the whole crew were smoking including the captain. Not cool- as I can't just walk away I'm trapped on this boat. This told me I will never take this boat again but what made me write the review was the disregard for the ocean that provides there livelihood. When a cigarette was completed they would just toss their cigarette butts in the ocean. If your into a family drift boat I would look else where! read more

I actually didn't like fishing until my recent trip with Bar Jack Fishing! I had so much fun I wanted to go back the next day. The crew is so incredibly nice and helpful. I caught two fish despite knowing next to nothing about fishing and we were able to take them home to eat which for me was behind exciting. We saw sea turtles galore which was a highlight for me and the water was often clear enough that you could see the schools of fish swimming below you! We even saw a barracuda. Hernando and Christina are treasures keeping up with everyone and making sure everyone is having a great time. As a whole we caught everything from several kinds of snapper to rarer fish like a parrotfish and some others I didn't even recognize! Some get thrown back into the ocean due to regulations but even the thrill of catching a fish was enough to want to go or every day! Thanks again guys! read more

My husband and son went drift fishing yesterday afternoon on their boat. We've done drift fishing before and my husband can't stop saying how awful this was. He said he felt like the captain and crew were out fishing for themselves and were very unhelpful and rude. He wasn't even allowed to keep his fish but they sure did keep it. DO NOT LET THEM TOUCH YOUR FISH!!!! We had a decent time but at the end, all the regulars and the crew needed to take a facebook (yes a stupid facebook picture.) While they were playing around with the fish they dropped our only king fish in water and we were shit out of luck! When we asked the captain why they were messing around with our fish, he said they like to take facebook pictures but at the expense of our fish. The captain didn't even care at all that our only fish was gone, VERY, very poor customer service. I have lived here for 6 years and I have recommended and taking many people on fishing carters but would not recommend this place to anyone I liked. Another epic day of Kings and Tuna on the Lady K. Best crew ever with Capt. Bruce and mate Travis. I have my own boat but if I feel like having a fun day with the rods and bait taken care of I always go with Barjack! The crew is as attentive as possible and folks need to understand there are tangles on EVERY boat! I'm from NJ and they've taught me to fish in FL. This was the worst experience ever! The bathrooms weren't working and the seats were broken. No water AT ALL IN THEM. No sink water. It was the choppiest water ever, I even overheard the captain telling someone on the radio that it was really bad and that he wouldn't be taking out another group, but he kept us out there. 3/4 of the people on the boat got sick, begging the captain to turn around, It took for someone in our group to get heatstroke and dehydration before he finally turned the boat around, only 1/2 hour before we were supposed to. By then, the bathrooms were even more disgusting, and they claimed that the bathrooms broke as soon as they left the dock. Bull...They told us to throw up over the back of the boat or in the buckets. Never, ever, ever again. Then they had the gall to tell us how they work for gratuities. Go buy a can of tuna and call it a day...BUT DON'T USE THESE GUYS, EVER! read more

This was the worst drift boat experience ever! 2 punk ass kids associated w/the crew accused me and my fishing buddy of taking their poles and gave us attitude and then put squid on our reels while we weren't looking. Nobody caught anything which was a good thing because the boat was so crowded and when a couple people simultaneously got a fish on, it was a fiasco. This is a good open drift boat. We did the night fishing and although we didn't catch, it was full of action none the less. Catch was primarily King Fish (King Mackerel) and a Crevalle Jack was also landed. This type of fishing everyone has a chance to catch. They put everyone on one side of the boat. Regarding the night fishing, since you are out deep, with everyone on one side of the boat fishing next to each other, and drifting at a decent rate of speed with rough wave conditions you should expect tangles, however the mates on this boat are very much on top of things. We went out on some of the other local drift boats in the area and found this one to be the best when it comes to customer service, education and safety. All the local boats offer the same sailing times and prices. Bar Jack loads by numerical order so the earlier you get there the better seating you can get. We did prefer to fish the weekdays over the overcrowded weekends, there are a lot less tangles during the weekday trips. They supply everything you need for fishing except drinks and snacks but they have a great marina store which has it all, including hats, sunglasses, sun block, clothing and tackle. We have fished this boat five different times in the last two months. They have two different crews consisting of 1 captain and 2 mates when there's over 20 people. Both crews are very helpful and both captains try hard to find fish and gladly answer questions about fishing with detailed information. There's 2 restrooms in the cabin, a large first aide locker, life jackets under the bench seats, and a large screen display fish finder, they even have a large fresh sink and hose in the back to clean your hands or fishing rods which is really cool. It is recommended to dress appropriately according to the weather conditions and to wear closed toe shoes, sunglasses and a hat. The VIP card is a get value for people who may choose to fish multiple times in a week or in a month, like us. Call ahead about weather conditions but remember the weather can and often does change during a trip. read more

I've fished on this boat several times. They work very hard to find fish. I've always caught fish, even in the middle of Summer. Some of the other reviews are unrealistically critical, the Captain or crew cannot bring the boat back due to some passengers getting seasick. There are always plenty of passengers that don't get sick and it would be unfair to cut their trip short. If it's rough out there, someone will probably get sick. IF YOU GET SEASICK, DON'T GO ON A BOAT! A little common sense goes a long way. Things break on boats, it's an imperfect world. This is a fishing boat, not a cruise ship, let's keep that in perspective. They provide fishing rods, bait, boat, fuel, license and help for those that require it, all that for a mere $40. That's a deal at twice the price, you could go buy a $250,000 fishing boat that seats 40 and go yourself or just pay the $40 and have a great time! Even if the fishing is slow, you get a great boat ride! Tip the crew, they work hard for you! If you don't like the Lady K, there are plenty of other choices for $75-$100 for the same trip with other companies. read more
