Justine from Bark Busters came to my home for an initial lesson, and I paid $300. My dog Happy is a 4-year-old Maltipoo and a small dog. During that visit, Justine explained the Gold Lifetime program ($1,895) and said she would come to my home about every 2-3 weeks for continued training. Based on that explanation, I decided to purchase the program. However, the first session under the program lasted only about 30 minutes. When I asked about the next visit, Justine said future sessions would be done through FaceTime instead of in-home training. During the initial lesson, I clearly explained that Happy does not pull on the leash. Despite this, Justine brought a metal collar designed to prevent pulling and tried to put it on Happy, which was confusing and disappointing. I also explained that because Happy is a small dog, I wanted to learn proper heel training so he could walk safely beside me. Instead, Justine said it was fine for him to walk behind me. I do not feel this is safe for a small dog, as he could easily pick something up from the ground or encounter larger dogs from behind. As a result, I paid $1,895 but received only one 30-minute in-person session. My request for a partial refund or reassignment to another trainer was denied. I am sharing this experience so that other customers can fully understand the training approach and contract terms before committing. Clarification: The three-hour visit mentioned by the trainer, Justine, refers to the separate $300 initial lesson, which I paid for in advance and which actually lasted about 2.5 hours. I amount of appreciation and respect I have for Justine is on another level. Not only did she have patience for my 1 year old (now 2yr old) female German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix (Harley), but she also had patience for me. She was constantly reassuring me that I was doing great. If I did not understand what she was telling me, she would gladly explain it another way. With her, you automatically feel like she is rooting for you to succeed. I spent a lot of time and energy practicing what Justine taught me and it 100% paid off. Harley was a psycho one year old dog that I adopted from the shelter in May 2025; I started Bark Busters in Aug/Sept 2025. Fast forward to July 2026 and Harley is a completely different dog. We trained on leash walking (the most important for me), recall, and various other things. Justine is extremely supportive of the fact that I want Harley to learn more things. We have had 2 experiences with the very expensive Bark Busters lifetime home dog training. The first was 20 years ago with a trainer named Lori. She trained our 40-pound Basenji-mix starting from puppyhood, onto when we brought home our child and so on. Lori was fantastic! Kahlua paid immediate attention to Lori and then Lori first taught my husband and I, and years later, taught our child, how to train and manage our beloved Kahlua. With Lori at the helm, Bark Busters was worth every single penny! After Kahlua passed away, some time later we adopted a 3 month old Boxer-mix we named Lucy. Once again we paid for the pricey Bark Busters lifetime home dog training program. By then, it was 2017, 8 years ago, and Lori had moved away so Sue Doyle was the trainer who was sent out. Sue seemed old and weaker than Lori. That didn't matter to us as long as she knew how to manage and train our dog. We were strong and just hitting our 50's and geared up to repeat the Bark Buster success Lori had led us to experience with our first dog Kahlua. But that never happened. We met Sue 3-4 times at our house, on our street and at a large park where there are always many other dogs nearby, but Sue could not find a way to control Lucy. Sue did not train Lucy nor did she train us on how to control Lucy and train Lucy to be an obedient dog. Hiring Bark Busters again was the biggest waste of money we ever spent because of Sue Doyle! We sent in a complaint to the company that was absolutely ignored and we never got our money back. Now we are about to adopt a new dog as a companion for Lucy and our family. Justine has done an excellent job helping us understand our dogs and why they behave the way that they do! She's been extremely helpful in learning how to communicate with our dogs and how to reinforce positive behaviors and discourage ones that are maybe not so good! We have a new young dog who had never had any sort of training (even house training!), so we needed a strategy to help her adjust to our home along with potty training and general communication. We have seen dramatic improvements in how calm she is, separation anxiety, potty accidents, food stealing and on and on. I am totally comfortable giving a two-thumbs upreview regarding training for my now 8 month old mini Goldendoodle, Bodi. Elaina is our Bark Buster trainer in Reno, well actually "my trainer" and I couldn't be happier! My puppy came to me at 5 months old. Although very cute, he had no manners and also wasn't house broken (he is now). Through bark busters, I found dog trainer Josh. On his first visit, he really helped us to understand what all was required of our dogs. He taught us to communicate better with our dogs. He asked for all their history from how we got both our dogs to what they ate for their last meal. He made informed decisions, and helped us understand why they are behaving in undesirable ways. This is me and my husband's first dog together, and having a doberman is quite a handful, but of course totally rewarding, especially when you have Sue as a trainer. We signed up for the 1 year program and so far we have had 3 training sessions, and we have already seen so many improvements with our 10 month old puppy. I'm probably the worst person when it comes to training dogs. I have two lab mixes, litter mates, almost 6 years old. My lack of experience, willingness to accept my dogs as-is, as well as a significant change in the household led to some pretty terrible situations. One of my girls continuously attacked the other, often leading to very stressful and expensive vet visits. Both girls were put on anti-anxiety medication, which did not completely curb their issues. Walking was exhausting, barking was annoying, their separation anxiety from me was truly terrible. I desperately needed help and Sue has been an absolute angel who has completely changed the quality of both my and my girls' lives. Sue took time to speak with me, prior to enrolling the girls, empathizing with my situation without judgement. She is honest and properly managed my expectation. I took additional time to read reviews on Sue and her program; I had a really positive feeling about her and signed up. Immediately upon entering the home, the dogs respond to her presence. Good sign! She takes the time to discuss dog behavior and thoroughly explain what the owner needs to do in order to set boundaries, establish authority and communicate to their dogs. Additionally, she teaches you to understand their body language. Online articles and videos will only get you so far, her expertise and patient guidance sets the training up for success. She teaches training techniques, explains why they work and the dog's interpretation of the commands. After each session, she writes an assessment of the training and provides homework. This is extremely helpful! After one session, the girls changed into manageable, behaved dogs. These are two, 65 lbs, 6 year old, lab mixes. Let me reiterate that... I have two, 65 lbs. 6 year old lab mixes with fighting and aggression issues. My vets put these two on anti-anxiety medication to curb their issues. This is probably one of the more difficult cases. She helped improve the quality of all our lives. I just had my second session last night; Sue noticed an improvement in the behavior and demeanor of the girls. After additional training, I'm looking forward to implementing additional techniques to improve their walks and behavior. Pricing: I researched and Sue is EXTREMELY reasonable. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Unlimited dog training sounds too good to be true...and it is. I work in a veterinary clinic and the methods used are horrifying. They use scare tactics to "train" your dog. My one and only session involved throwing water balloons at my dog, hitting him in the head with a door, and barking at him. (Which everyone in my apartment building loved hearing for two straight hours I'm sure) I later reached out to corporate about my experience. They replied to my initial email immediately then never replied and ignored my several attempts to contact them again once I mentioned that I wanted a partial refund. Which I think is generous considering what happened to my dog. They've ignored me for months. read more

Sue really is magic! We recently welcomed a 3 and a half month old Australian Cattle dog puppy into the family (named Banksy), and quickly realized that she had not yet been properly socialized, we would have friends over and Banks would bark and growl at them nonstop, if they moved or made eye contact her hackles would go up and she would not stop staring at them. It was difficult because she did not have all of her puppy shots yet, so she couldn't really go into the great big world and see that it wasn't so scary after all. All we wanted was for Banksy to be happy and feel safe with us, and we are beyond thrilled to report that after working with Sue, we can confidently say that Banksy is a whole new dog! Banksy now loves people and dogs, she definitely prefers when she is the one to approach, but she can play for hours at the dog park with all different breeds (large and small), something unheard of before we followed Sue's advice (Banksy used to be so protective of us that she wouldn't leave our feet at the bark and would growl at any dog we simply glanced at). It definitely takes commitment, but Sue was always so supportive and saw all the best potential Banksy, she is such lovely company, and truly knows what she is doing, I cannot recommend her and Bark Busters enough. Banksy is now 9 months old, and is a very well behaved dog, walks just by our side, greets people and dogs when encouraged, and even wags her tail in her sleep, all thanks to Sue! Without a doubt the best dog training/behavior service I've ever used, and I've used a lot. Within the first moments of walking into our house, she had our clumber spaniel puppy acting more calm and disciplined than after months of his overpriced puppy kindergarten. She expected a lot from him and didn't use the "he's an intact puppy" excuse. The first one hour visit turned the little guy around. It's a process to train a dog and alter behavior, but I could tell she put our little man on the right path from the first visit. I can't recommend Sue highly enough. Best money I ever spent. My baby girl, Emma Mae, wasn't a bad dog, just stubborn. We tried a puppy manners class that didn't work because the other dogs were either too small to interact with Emma Mae or they were too much of a distraction for her to actually learn during the class. So here's the deal-I have two dogs who I adore but they behave like panelists on the Maury Povich show. One of my dogs freaks out on walks so much that I dread the experience. I tried a halti collar (which just pissed her off more), a Cesar Millan-type leash, a pinch collar, a doggie backpack, a squirt bottle, and on and on. How John Knight of BarkBusters Saved My Dogs Life I'm the kind of person who really values great service and feels the need to "spread the word" when I really find a winner. So here it is: John Knight of BarkBusters' dog training literally saved my dog's life. I rescued a 5 week old puppy who instantly became the son I never had. Unfortunately for him and unbeknownst to me I had no idea how to be a mama dog. So, Griffin had some bad habits that his real mom would have probably never let him develop. The worst one was growling and biting. He was the sweetest dog in the world to me, but not to everyone else. So after he had bitten 3 of my friends I called John--who we had already been working with and who is responsible for training us to train Griffin to sit, stay, lay down, give, heel and the very important--potty training--with much less effort than I ever would have thought. When this new habit started John came over and in one sitting trained us to extinguish the biting, which we did by the next day. I say that John saved Griffin's life because there is no way that we could have kept a dog that bites and if he had continued biting it was only a matter of time before he would bite himself into some serious trouble with the law. John Knight turned a potentially deadly situation into something manageable. And that's how it is with John in general--he is our dog guru. I can't say strongly enough how fantastic John Knight is as a trainer and as a person. I can't say enough about working with John. He truly trained "us" rather than trained our dog, which really made all the difference. We worked with him in 2009, and we still use the lessons he gave us to this day. It's made us much better dog owners and subsequently given us much better behaved dogs.
