We have a wire fox terrier whom we have hand stripped. Groomers who do hand stripping are hard to find and those that do great work are very scarce. Carolyn does terrific work and our wire comes out ready for the show ring. Given that grooming our dog is incredibly demanding, I don't understand the one and two star reviews. read more

I've never had anything but positive experiences with all who work there. I've interacted with Leanne, Carolyn and Pat and found each to be helpful and kind. I originally posted this review on the establishment's Facebook page but it was deleted, and then I was blocked. If you are looking for a place to take your dog that provides good assembly line service from a technically talented groomer - I highly recommend this place. However, if you want to bring your pet to a place that provides a more personalized service from a customer friendly owner, this is NOT the place for you. I was a customer of bark plaza for 7+ years. The first 4 years was with my American Eskimo and now the latter three with my Havanese, named Harmony. I was extremely loyal to Bark Plaza - referring people to the establishment on multiple occasions - some of which are existing customers today. Each time I made a referral, the person inevitably came back and mentioned how the "groom" exceeded their expectations but were taken back by the abrasiveness of the owner/groomer, Carolyn Sorrento. Each time that would happen (more than twice - less than 5 times), I would defend Carolyn and say she must have been having a bad day - that any abrasiveness or rudeness was not consistent with my experience. In retrospect, I think my perception was based on how kind they were to my American Eskimo during his final days and I let that cloud my judgement. But then again, an American Eskimo is easy and straight forward to groom. Sadly, that perception changed dramatically today. Harmony was last groomed by Carolyn at the end of March/early April. At that grooming session she was shaved down to a half inch and in some places was down to her skin. The reason I was given for the dramatic cut was that she was too matted to do anything other than shave her down. Coincidently, at that time my mother was in a rehab hospital and was sharing her room with a woman whose daughter, Kendra, was a dog groomer. We had brought the dog into the hospital for visits prior and post that grooming appointment. During one of the post grooming appointment visits, Kendra was shocked to see the difference in Harmony and said there was no reason she needed to be shaved down like that - that it was illustrative of a groomer who just didn't want to take the time to do the job. Today, I brought Harmony into Bark Plaza for an 8AM appointment. When I dropped her off, I asked that she not be shaved down, that I would prefer she be trimmed to a 1". I said the last time she was shaved down to 1/2" with several bare spots, she was a bit traumatized. (I used the word traumatized in an over-exaggerated tone - trying to make light of the situation - but trying to get my point across that I did NOT want her shaved) Did Harmony have matts in her fur? Yes. Were they excessive? No. There was significantly LESS matting than her previous visit in March/April - when another groomer said there was no need to shave the dog. At 8:43 AM I received a phone call from Carolyn stating that she could not spend any more time on Harmony - that she would not de-matt her and that she would not shave her because I said she was "traumatized" last time. I had to go pick up Harmony because she refused to complete the job. Needless to say, I was very upset when I went to pick up Harmony. I had been a loyal customer - making referrals for years - tipping extremely well (always over 20% - until today) - and was being treated what I considered poorly. Did Harmony's grooming needs exceed what an average dog would need? Probably yes. But after 7+ years of being a customer, I would think that would buy some accommodation. I now have a dog whose coat is about 2-3 inches long going into the hottest days of summer. When I arrived at the establishment and paid my bill, I commented that I'm glad her business was doing so well that she didn't need to show any kind of loyalty to long standing clients. Her response was simply "don't be like that" "let it go" "there are plenty of groomers in the area". I was now beginning to experience the "abrasiveness" or indifference others had told me about. When I commented that I was the Director of Customer Experience for a $5B company (as a way to illustrate that I knew something about the right and wrong way to treat customers) her comment was "Oh... a $5B dollar company.... I'm not impressed". Well - you DON'T have to be an expert in Customer Experience to know THAT is not the way you should speak to a customer. I'm very sad to be leaving Bark Plaza - I enjoyed chatting with Pat over the years (the receptionist and Carolyn's mother), always felt that my dog was safe in their care and will always be grateful for the kindness they showed my dog Avalanche during his last days . I believe that Carolyn is a very technically talented groomer but has a lot of room to grow in developing the soft skills that drive an exceptional customer experience and loyalty. read more

CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRENDOUS ! Doesn't even deserve 1 star...! Incredible is all I can say.... This past spring I brought my dog in for a cut, the woman receptionist had such a miserable attitude... she needed a "Happy Meal" and, I chalked it up to she was just having a bad day. When I picked him up, the cut was good... but, they had put some sparkly glitter all over his face & nose.... They said it was pretty.... I said, please don't do that again and to note his file as such. The second time we brought him in, the cut was "meh" AND they put the glitter on his nose again, after I'd even reminded them not to when I dropped him off. The woman receptionist got really perturbed and nasty about it when I complained about it again...She had such a miserable manner it really struck me that it must be her normal way of life. I remember thinking that she should not have anything to do with public relations or customer service for that matter. The third time was the charm... - We had a scheduled appt and unfortunately, I arrived 45 min behind schedule due to a dentist appointment and, mind you, Bark Plaza is also a 30 minute drive from home. Upon arrival, I was informed by "carolyn" that "they would not cut the dog's hair today, that it was too late...." No discussion, no explanations about being overbooked, short staffed or whatever. When I tried to apologize for being late, I was met with a dismissive attitude of indignation and resentment. I then said that I would never return as a customer, to which the woman yelled out "GOOD!" and ran off into the back room. ...and, ya know... she's right. It is "good" to NEVER BE A CUSTOMER of Bark Plaza again and I'll do my best to make sure that others know how good it is NOT to be too!!! read more

When I first found Bark Plaza I was so happy. I had an adopted setter lab mix that had some social issues due to past abuse, and he did not do well in a cage. They were very accomodating and kind .... at first. On our last visit. My husband picked up Murph. The groomer practucally threw the leash at him. I called. And asked if there was an issue. They said well you know how he barks in a cage... it is aggravating. And then they went on to mention that he and please excuse this but. Had explosive diarrhea all over the table.... this never happened before. One would hope that if your dog gets sick while at your facility you would communicate that to the owner immediatly. Not throw the leash at them and charge extra for your troubles. The cold and un caring girls have no business taking care of dogs. I found a mobile groomer and never had another issue again. read more

I really don't understand any of these negative reviews about Carolyn being anything less than friendly, professional, and a great groomer. She has been taking care of our 4 dogs for the past 6 years and I can't recall one time she was unpleasant. The shop is so nice, clean, and carries all healthy, American-made products. I have a yorkie who is not used to being around big dogs, so we always used to book her appointment in the morning so she wouldn't be around too many other dogs. They run this place like a factory. They was the dog, put them in the crate for an hour, wash another dog, blow dry mine, stuff her back in the crate, blow dry the other dog, then cut my dog's hair. Every time we picked her up, she had multiple small cuts that were scabbing over all over her!!! She was terrified and would not come out from behind the couch for the rest of the day. All they care about is money. It's like an overbooked doctor's office. We switched groomers. read more

No. No and No. I always pick my dogs up from this place with choppy, uneven cuts. We would take them there because they were the closest groomers to our house. Twice I've found scabs and cuts on them and after the second time, enough was enough. I really don't want to think about the pain they inflict on the dogs because they're not careful. I make sure to make early appointments so that they're not there all day. But for some reason, they're one of the first to arrive and always the last ones to be attended. My dogs are not accustomed to being in cages so why would you keep them in there for so long? This is HOURS I'm talking about here. We always get this answer: "Oh its not how it works here." I'm sorry: I forgot. You're right. My dog should arrive at 11 and wait until 5 pm to be attended because the 12pm dog needs to be out by 1. On top of that, they put glitter on their noses. Glitter! I know this isn't edible and it certainly isn't safe for them to breath in. After this, I decided that it was the last time I would take them there. Why would you glitter bomb my dogs after caging them for hours, giving them an uneven cut and cutting up their skin????? My dogs are always terrified when they arrive there. I assumed it was their separation anxiety. They would be ecstatic to come home. I see now that they were terrified of this place and their mishandling. I'll take this as a cue to search for a different and more professional dog groomer even if it means having to drive miles away. I do not recommend. read more

I had been searching for a great groomer to take our 4 legged family members to and stumbled upon Bark Plaza. I went in and everyone was very friendly so I decided to give it a try. We love them so much I take my daughters dog there now. That means I drive 30 miles each way to get him groomed there. That is how awesome Bark Plaza is. They do a great job and they really care about our animals. Oh by the way the pricing is incredibly competitive (better than Petco) and they sell lots of American made gifts for your dogs. This is by far the best grooming place I have ever been to. The service is great and friendly staff. They care so much about you and your pets. They even trimmed my 2 bunnies nails for me. They have been taking care of our 3 pugs for years and I love them. I even get all my dogs food and treats from them. Bark Plaza was recommended to me by a colleague. After reading the reviews, I was VERY hesitant. I'm so glad I gave this place a shot because they are a hidden gem! Best cut my dog has ever had (and believe me, I'm particular!) and for a very reasonable price ($55). The staff is great, they do quality work, and they're quick! Bark Plaza is great! My dog is a rescue and very nervous around new people and places, and they have always treated her with the utmost patience and care. Not only does she come back clean and tidy, but more importantly she's happy! Took her to the Petco in Topsfield and she came out shaking in fear with nails bleeding from being trimmed too short - not at Bark Plaza! After a couple of visits she was jumping out of the car and dragging me to the door. Maybe it's the home-made treats she gets for being a good girl... Can't say enough good things about this place. I stopped here to check out their retail store. Not sure why, but felt a bad vibe stepping into the place. There were two women talking behind to counter and they seemed angry that I came in, interrupting their conversation. I told them I was looking for a particular dog treat. One woman began asking me why I wanted that item as though I was crazy to want it. (even though they carry it) She then told me where they were. I picked up a package of the treats, began examining it and asked a question. Again, I got the stink eye for interrupting their chat. I just put the treats back on the shelf and left. Don't go to this place. I was reluctant to write this review but I have had enough of the attitude and rudeness of the owner. I think her name is Caroline. I picked up my daughter's dog last week and not only was the grooming mediocre but the owner has some serious issues. She rarely speaks to you and when she does, she is rude and abrupt. She really needs to brush up on her professionalism and customer service. My daughter brings her dog there because it is close to home. I told my daughter there are plenty of BETTER groomers around. When a dog's nails are clipped you expect the fur on the bottom of the paws to be trimmed. Well it was never done, the fur was sticking out and we trimmed it ourselves. I am surprised Caroline is still in business with her attitude. She definitely needs an attitude adjustment. read more

My Aussie always comes out looking maahvelous after his "spa" treatment. Bark Plaza Doggies Day Spa does a fantastic job of grooming and I can tell that they really love dogs, which is the most important thing to me when dropping off my boy. My Aussie has separation anxiety and the staff at Bark Plaza are always patient and kind with him. I very much appreciate how the staff cares for my little boy. I am very comfortable dropping Buddy at Bark Plaza knowing that he will be treated well and will be safe while in their care. That means all the world to me. I've always had good interactions with the staff as well, but my main concern is how they are with Buddy, that they take good care of my boy. It's hard to believe he could be any better looking, but he looks even more beautiful after being groomed. He also leaves there looking very happy despite having a hard time being dropped off so I know he's been well cared for. I'm very grateful for Bark Plaza! :) read more

New to the area and have used their services a few times now due to convenience of location. I'm not planning to go back. They charge double ($125-150) what I've paid my last two groomers to shave down my dog and they tack on extra charges that you're not prepared for, some of which seem rather unreasonable. Some judgemental, borderline rude comments have also been made to us. Also be prepared if you plan to make an appointment you need to schedule at least 1-2 weeks ahead of time. read more

Just left having my dog's nailed trimmed here for the 1st & last time. Was hoping to get Chelsea as she has the Pom like mine and loves them according to the owner; Carolyn. Carolyn literally tried to drag my 14 month old Pom (who just came to this country 3 1/2 weeks ago from Russia) across the cement outside the door, as if it was a slippery floor that he could just slide across. I literally picked him up and put him inside the door for her, as she was saying she would be picking him up at that point. This was after making me feel like a fool that I didn't realize they moved 5 yrs ago from up the street. Mind you I haven't had a dog in 3 yrs and he didn't need grooming. This was my 1st & last time at this place. I too believe in customer service & this was not the place for that. I also heard my pup crying on the table inside (which is likely typical for nail clipping), but just added to the bad experience. I'm not one to leave bad reviews but when defenseless animals are involved ... I will do anything to protect them!!! read more

Bark Plaza does a nice job on grooming, but the lady at the front desk is not very pleasant or accommodating.

While the business is clean and the receptionist friendly, we were not at all happy with our dog's grooming. His cut was very uneven and looked messy rather than professional. At Bark Plaza, they state, "bring your dog back if you are not happy with the cut or it needs adjusting" Now I understand why. Who has the time to go back, I just want it done correctly the first time. For $52.00, it should be professional and completed. read more

Had to give a star or would not have given any. Drove 1 1/2 hours to get to the spa, owner late and clearly having a bad day to start (tells her employee its a morning, but "not good." Fine, don't manhandle my dog and treat me rudely as a first time customer. Walked back out within 5 minutes. Maybe this person is better with numbers then people and small breeds. I love this place. I always groomed my dogs myself but a temporary back injury led me to give Bark Plaza a try. I was very nervous the first time leaving my medium sized lab. She is not around other dogs a lot and a real homebody. When I went to pick her up she was happy as could be and she smelled and looked lovely. I have been going back for years, even though my back is healed, because my dog loves going and she looks fantastic every time. Worth every penny. read more
