Frustratingly archaic reservation system and lack of flexibility. It's not a reflection of the service or the people, when my dog was able to get on the schedule, after his evaluation, he had a good time and everyone was very nice. We've wanted to use Doggie Depot for boarding a few times and have attempted to schedule on various occasions. One attempt was made about a month and a half ahead of time and they were unable to accommodate. Another was admittedly more last-minute, but I feel still reasonable of 5 days ahead of time for an emergency (I don't know of many people that know of an emergency 5 days ahead of time) and it was an immediate response of "Sorry for your situation but we're full and can't do anything about it. By the way, we're opening a bigger location well beyond when you'll need us this time" I get it if places are full for normal circumstances, they're full. But a local, family owned place I would hope have worked with us in a challenging situation instead of immediately dismissed it. I put the same request through to a daycare we used 4 years ago before moving to the North Shore. It was no question, they'd be happy to make room and accommodate given the situation. Only problem is now we've got to find time to drive an hour and a half each way to drop my dog off, and pick him up. Maybe it's just the standard that's been set by other day care facilities we've used, but this experience has been a bit of a let down. Doggie Depot is great if you have a set schedule and know exactly what your next few months look like. But if you intend to request emergency help from the place your dog knows, you better know your emergencies at least a month out. read more

WOW! I couldn't be happier. I have tried out 3 different groomers in the Beverly area and this one is THE BEST - BY FAR!! The owners and groomers are SUPER and my pup looks like a IAMs doggie model. The price is right - actually, the price is better than any of the other prices I have paid. The location is perfect... drop the dog off, grab a bite in the farms... do a little shopping.... take a walk to the beach - or all of the above. Usually when I drop my lil pup off somewhere, he freaks which makes me freak... not the case here! Have you ever walked out of groomer and said to yourself, "OMG, what the heck did they do to my fur!!!" Well my dog Chloe really never has since we always ask for a puppy cut (I'm guessing you can't really mess that up) but she has come out of the groomer, on occasion, and had her tail tucked between her legs because her fur was cut so short she felt naked. :) Not so at Doggie Depot. Chloe normally will yank on her leash away from the groomer once she figures out where we're going. But our trip to Doggie Depot was atypical from the moment we parked our car at the train station and walked in; she didn't want to run away even when she realized we were at the groomers. I think dogs inherently have a sense of detecting animal lovers and my guess is that she knew right away Joel (owner?) is such a person. The shop was very clean and everyone working there was super friendly. And most importantly Chloe didn't mind going there. :) I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a pet groomer. read more

We boarded our 4 month old Pug with them and he came home with a tail injury. His formerly corkscrew tail was hanging limp and he was in a lot of pain. Rather than apologizing, hot-head owner Joel sent long text messages accusing by us of either lying or of the pup having some magical condition that caused his tail to drop. Vet confirmed tail injury and he was prescribed pain and anti-inflammatory meds. We didn't even ask them to pay the vet bill but a simple apology for whatever accident happened would have been nice. Terrible temper and customer service. His wife had always been professional but regretfully was away when the incident happened. It's too bad, our large dogs have enjoyed their daily play care there. It doesn't seem like Joel really enjoys being in the dog care business. read more

Our 11-year-old Golden, Ben, was Doggie Depot's very first customer - we were standing outside the door waiting for them to open on day one! We started with occasional grooming but quickly progressed to playgroups, walks, home visits and boarding. We know that Joel, the owner, Michael, head groomer and Tyler (driving the party bus ) care for Ben the way we would ourselves. Michael is even game to groom our cranky, overly large cat. Joel and Marie take great care of our mutt Lucille and her cousin Pearl. Lucille can be protective of your young kids who are often home when she gets picked up but the Doggie Depot crew is always patient with her and she loves hopping in the van for play group. I love that they trim her nails at a moments notice and are very flexible with our schedule. My parent's Golden gets groomed here and always comes home looking beautiful. I have been looking for a cat groomer within a 10 mile radius for my cat Tigger. Little did I know that 2 1/2 miles away from Manchester was Michael. My three year cat has been brushed by me and his claws clipped by the vet. Tigger had never had a true grooming. I had some concerns he might be a bit unhappy for his first professional grooming. In a nutshell, Michael deserves the title of "Cat Whisperer", Tigger came out of Doggie Depot so layed back, smelling good, looking good and content. Can't ask for more! read more

Our dog, Blaze, has been using the services offered by The Doggie Depot since the day we got him, which was over two years ago. We have had Joel and staff to our home to walk Blaze and check on him the first two weeks we had him. We then continued to send Blaze several times a week to attend their daycare. Every morning Blaze is anxiously waiting by the door to see if I take him to daycare on my way to work and gets a bit bummed when he realizes he's not going that day. They send report cards periodically to let me know how he is doing, and gettin along. Blaze has made quite a few friends and has become a very social dog, which is great. I am a new doodle owner and explained that it was my dog's first adult haircut but she had been trimmed and groomed twice so she was used to it. They had no ability to give me a reference point for what type of haircuts doodles get. The groomer then proceeded to shave her down, not get the mattes out of her chin that I specifically asked for, and left her feet and other areas completely uneven. Unacceptable. read more

This place offers a really great service and my review isn't going to apply to everyone but I like to learn from things in life and I think our story will be a learning experience for both us and the owners of this company (and maybe you). Our dogs are small, one is a french bull dog and one is an Italian greyhound mix. They had been at doggie depot 4 days a week for the pick up and play group (sometimes MORE!) I travel for work and its tough... Going on 5-6 months everything was seeming great. Our dogs would be picked up and I would get home in the afternoon and they would be home. We needed nails cut just email the office and viola done. GREAT! We spent a lot of money and were getting a good service. One day about a month ago the driver (young man) came to my house when I was home and Fiona the french bull dog got aggressive towards him but he was laughing and I said IS THIS NORMAL!? I had honestly never seen her like that ever with someone at the house. He said sort of but shes just excited and she pulls me to the car (insinuating she likes going). I said ok and I told my wife about it. Well we kind of let it go and said well if its ok with the pickup guy then ok and maybe it was because I was home. Welllll one day again about a week ago Im home (weekday noontime) and the owner shows up at my house. I here him getting flustered with Fiona downstairs. I come down and hes like "oh good I'm glad you're home". HUH!? No call, no email, no text just shows up to "evaluate" the situation - Im literally walking out to door to leave for North Carolina for two days. He seemed to want to leave without the dogs because of the situation - fi did not respond well to the owner whom she had no repore at the house with and he had never picked her up(I know this because he was there to evaluate the situation - so he had obviously never been there before this). I asked politely for him to please take the dogs at least for the day and he agreed. I then called my wife whom after speaking with was alot more upset than me. mostly because of the amount of time that this had gone on and the money we had spent to essentially make a bad situation worse. I found out that they were putting fiona and pinky in a crate in the van. News to us. we wouldn't have agreed to that - that is a situation they are not used to. Neither ever travels in a crate or are even sleep or anything in a crate. This was causing tension in the van even and fiona was barking at the other dogs. When shes at the daycare I assume shes ok because the owner told me that she played perfectly fine there. Again a behavior never mentioned to us. Bottom line. We lost the service (they dont want to pick the dogs up). our dog began to think it was ok to get aggressive to people (men) coming to our house. The situation went on WAY too long. The first time this happened there should have been a phone call to us and a stop to the pickup so we could work on training or some notice that its an issue so we could have transitioned to another service within a week or so. Now we are in one on one obedience training $$$$ to address the issues that are now solidified. Im not blaming the doggie depot for the behavior Im blaming them for not coming to us right away. Im pissed that we were confronted in our home with NO NOTICE on my way out the door. I believe everything happens for a reason and we were spending way too much money and apparently if they were willing to give that up the situation must have been bad. Our trainer told us to lay off the doggie play groups all together and focus on training and mental stimulation. We have another local place who offered to come train with fiona and pinky and offered to be available when Im travelling for pickup. I think this place does a good job with perfectly behaved dogs but if your dog shows aggression of any kind ever I would inquire as to whether there has been any issues as our dogs are literally like 15-20lbs. Thankfully noone got hurt. Were spending way less, and we are on the road to a new regiment for them. read more

My dog recently spent the past few weeks here for full day boarding. The daycare staff are attentive and friendly. My 1 yr old pup is high energy, very friendly and a big runner who loves tons of space to play/roam. The Doggie Depot has a fairly small front yard with more dogs than you'd imagine in a tight space for 8+ hours a day. Their play group location wasn't much better in terms of ample space for big, playful dogs to run and explore. It's a small sand area with upwards of 30-50 dogs at a time. A bit overwhelming for owner and dog. Similar daycares are known to turn new "clients" away in order to avoid such large groups of dogs in spaces that can't quite accomodate such volume, etc. While I had no issues here with the staff or my dog's care, I wouldn't recommend this location for bigger, incredibly active pups that prefer loads of space and more 1-1 attention with the staff. Given the multitude of dogs in a fairly confined space, my dog needed a bath upon his return every evening. Not a huge deal, but certainly a different daycare enviroment that what I'm used to at locations that have huge yards, tons of toys, seperate play groups, less dogs, and more personalized care. read more

What a wonderful business! I was traveling abroad for 19 days this summer and was able to board my dog with these wonderful folks who took great care of him. They also texted me pics and kept me up to date on how he was doing during my trip. They were so very kind to my doggie. They clearly love animals. Caitlyn and Joel welcomed our Irish Terrier on very short notice. They proceeded to do a great job hand stripping /grooming her to a regulation AKC cut. And bathed her (No small task!) They returned her to us looking fantastic and extremely calm....she certainly wasn't yearning to leave! All in all a great experience at a very reasonable cost. Spotlessly clean. My husband and I brought our two year old dog here today for the first time and I was so surprised how calm she was when we walked in. The employees and owner were so welcoming and friendly that I didn't feel bad leaving my dog there. I also really appreciated how they brought Lucky out back right away and let her sniff around the grooming area. When we came to pick her up, she didn't run right up to us like "get me out of this place", she walked past us and sniffed around and went behind the counter, she seemed so comfortable and calm which is unlike her past visits at other groomers. Brought our two Shih Tzus here for haircuts with specific instructions and even photos of previous haircuts they had just two months prior and instead the groomers at the Doggie Depot shaved my dogs down. Not only is the haircut terrible and unflattering, it was completely unnecessary. I can shave my dog! I wanted a professional grooming. Our male dog had one mat on his back leg and instead of working it out and trimming that area down, they buzzed him completely! Will not be back. read more

On the other hand the service is terrible. I was lied to by one of the employees which I did not appreciate. I spoke with the owner and he told me there main concern is making money. I love this place!! I had my 4 year old Maltese groomed here today after much research, and could not be happier with the results. The staff was excellent and attentive, and my Lacy came out looking and smelling like a dream. There were happy dogs out in their daycare playing on the grass, playing in pools, running through sprinklers and resting on dog cots. A little dog heaven on a particularly hot day! With no children, my one year old English bulldog,Lola, is truly my baby. She is the most important thing to me in the world. After looking at multiple doggy daycare places, the Doggie Depot was recommended to me and after talking to Joel and Marie, I was instantly put at ease. It is so easy to tell that they truly care about the dogs under their care. Lola has stayed with them twice, and each time, I have been able to annoy them via text to ask how she's doing (I'm an overprotective mommy!!) and they graciously respond and send photos of how's she's doing. Lola always leaves happy , and tied , after having so much fun. There is absolutely nobody else I would trust my baby with.!!!! We needed to get our 11 year old Golden Retriever groomed at the last minute and our regular, very good groomer was fully booked. So, plan B. Our vet recommended The Doggie Depot for an appointment, which we did. This was during some very hot days in early July, so they suggested a "puppy cut", which is a bit more expensive. She looks like a baby polar bear cub and sure looks much happier this summer. We now have a new " go to" groomer. read more
