Stopped in for dinner. Nice setting, good atmosphere. Will review the dinner.

It's difficult to accurately review at this time due to the COVID situation. But, I can cover the basics that should be expected if an establishment decides to open their doors. We had two rooms for four people. Both rooms carried an odor of stale smoke and were musty. Both bathrooms were a bit dirty, with hair on the bathroom floor and in the tubs. One AC unit was either on, or off. No thermostatic control. There was also an almost constant smell of Marijuana in the hallways - it is legal for recreational use in Wisconsin. The bar and restaurant were open. Service was very slow, but the had very few staff on - I'm sure due to COVID restrictions. Food was decent. But a bit overpriced for quality and quantity. It's a really nice location. Nearby marina if you fish or have a boat to bring. I will still give them another try when things get back to normal. I think back in the day the Inn was probably considered luxurious. It's a bit on the outdated side now.

Abandon all hope ye who enter.

Came in and it was decently clean until we opened the drawer and found this. Not too happy.

General - This is one of my favorite places to stay when visiting the Duluth area…read more Location - This hotel is located on a small strip of land called Minnesota Point (a small, long island adjacent to the city's port). You get to drive over the iconic lift bridge to get to the area. There is a great beach area just down the road but the hotel is still close enough to walk into town to enjoy shopping and dining in Canal Park. The hotel overlooks the harbour, so if you stay here during the shipping season, it makes for a great place to watch boats coming in and out of the port. Rooms & Building - Rooms are very clean and modern with plenty of space and seating for a family to enjoy. Most of the rooms offer a patio that overlooks either the port or parking lot with views of the city. The building is kept in immaculate condition and offers a great mix of nautical and woodsy decor, a perfect setting that represents Duluth. Amenities - The hotel has a pool/hot tub/sauna as well as a large breakfast area and lounge with a fireplace. The pool was heated to a nice temp and the hot tub had good jets. Other amenities include hot towels, S'mores station during select nights, self-serve coffee bar and shuttle services to Canal Park. Food - There is a free breakfast buffet offered with your stay. Classic hot offerings with continental choices make for a filling breakfast with many options to pick from. There is no restaurant onsite but there is a small bar that offers some bar food and a small menu of canned drinks. Vibe - Easy going and super friendly staff. No complaints. Reality vs. Online - Pictures that I saw on their website and online matched the quality and condition of the hotel and rooms in-person. No surprises. Price & Final Verdict - When the price is right, this hotel is an easy #1 spot for me to pick, either for work or pleasure. The area is easy to get to while being right in the middle of one of the busiest areas of Duluth. The nautical setting and extra amenities adds to the enjoyment of the port and lakeside environment.

The room was lovely with a nice view of the harbor and very clean. The pool was nice albeit a little on the small side especially if busy. He said I was standing somewhere I couldn't, saying I was in the way. I was not in anyones way, in fact I was trying to stay out of peoples way by standing close to a wall as I was just waiting to pick up clients. It was extremely busy, shoulder to shoulder in most of the building. There isn't a lot of places to stand and I did not see any signs saying you can't stand here or in this area. It also didn't make sense because there were others standing near me and he did not confront them. I asked him, "why do I need to move, and where I should move to? " He replied " Anywhere, just don't stand by me." I replied, "Excuse me?" He then threatened me by saying, "What are you gonna do about it?" I was astonished. I told him I was working and will be leaving as soon as I pick up my group of clients but it did not matter. At this point other bouncers starting coming up and putting there hands on me as if I had done something wrong. I reluctantly moved to avoid being thrown out in the cold. This was all just for standing. I was just working!!! Just trying to do my job!!! I don't know if he was upset about the way I look, or maybe he thought I smelled bad I really couldn't say for sure. I could not believe it happened. Needless to say, we will no longer be recommending The Board Room to our clients as a venue for weddings, receptions, parties, or any other special events for that matter.

I always knew that this Hampton Inn was in Wisconsin, and chose it because it was the cheapest deal I could find at the time. And no, I'm not sure why Duluth hotel properties are so relatively expensive. We found the Hotel relatively easy to find, although the adjacent building/road construction made the directions (and turns) a little more challenging. Getting back into Duluth Minnesota (for Dinner later) was fairly easy and port/lake scenic. If there's a next time, I'll continue up the North Shore and make my stop more that a one night visit. The Hampton property reflects the modern refurbishments within the chain, which I found clean, comfortable and welcoming. Upon check-in, the most important tasks were: 1. Shower (!) 2. Change into Clean Clothes (Yes, the ride down from Ely was a little "ripe") 3. Separate and Pack Up the "Canoe Clothes" 4. Make Dinner Reservations (Grandma's) 5. Chat with Gayle again (the first call upon return from the Lake) I also got a good night sleep, enjoyed the free hot breakfast (and friendly staff) in the morning, and hung out with Bob/Bird and Jeff before we all went our separate ways.
