    Newer hotel with shiny bathroom.

A newer Hampton, and that's always a good thing. Ethan checked us in and was super awesome. We actually felt like valued gold members. The rest of the stay was nice. Hotel was quiet and the breakfast was good.

Best Western Bridgeview Hotel - Exterior

    Best Western Bridgeview Hotel

My husband and I recently spent a week in the Great Lakes area; we stayed at the Best Western…read moreBridgeview Hotel and enjoyed our time there. We were traveling with our cat, and finding a pet-friendly hotel that was also cat-friendly was a challenge. We were so happy to find the Bridgeview; from the moment I called to make our reservation, it was a good experience. Kathy at the front desk is a GEM; she made our reservation for us, and was so friendly and welcoming that we knew we'd made the right decision. She was at the front desk when we checked in, and helped us out with restaurant recommendations and some information about the area. She had worked very hard to find just the right room for us: first floor near an outside door (for easy load in and out), away from the pool (which could get noisy), and toward the back of the hotel (away from the main street). We really appreciate her attending to our requests so thoroughly! The hotel layout radiates into wings, so a map to guide our steps back and forth from the common areas was very helpful. The layout also allows for parking that is literally steps from the nearest outside door. Each door is labeled with a letter of the alphabet, so you can't get lost. Our room was clean and comfortably sized for our needs, with two queen beds, a bureau, work desk, microwave and refrigerator and flat-screen TV. In addition to the office chair, there was an upholstered chair (that our cat immediately took possession of). The toilet and tub/shower were separate from the sink and closet area (in the European model), which was very helpful when getting ready in the mornings. One thing we missed was an inset soap dish and/or ledge for our toiletries in the shower. I spoke with the hotel manager during our check-out, and recommended they investigate soap dish/ledge options which can be incorporated into the tile surround of the shower. This would be a definite boon for travelers. Having an inset soap dish at the sink would also be very helpful. The location of our room was fairly quiet, although we could hear our neighbor's TV/music at times through the wall and any higher levels of noise in the hall. The bed was very comfortable, and there was a selection of pillows to choose from for a good night's sleep. In addition to Kathy, we appreciated Danica at the front desk, who, with a smile, took care of so many questions and requests during our stay. Tina in the breakfast room was the soul of hospitality, always greeting us in the morning and working hard to ensure that all the breakfast items were fresh and in plentiful supply. Every staff member we spoke with was very polite and kind. Breakfast was a full hotel breakfast; in addition to beverages, cereals, breads, pastries, and fresh fruit, they offered egg dishes, breakfast meat (bacon and sausage alternated), and make-your-own waffles. The location of the hotel was ideal for our exploration of the area; it's situated just one block from the I-535 bridge crossing over to Duluth, and right on Hammond Street for easy access to Superior's downtown area with shops, restaurants and bars. Despite its downtown location, the area appeared quite safe and was well-lit; while we were there, we saw many patrons on the streets and sidewalks. The indoor pool was centrally located; we didn't get a chance to use it, but it always appeared clean and the surrounding area was kept tidy. There was also a jacuzzi and plenty of pool-side seating. The exercise area was sufficient for our needs; they had an elliptical trainer, treadmill, stationary bicycle, and standing weight machine as well as free weights available. The hotel has a business area which offers two terminals for internet access, connected to a printer. The entire hotel is wi-fi accessible and the service is free; it is a secure network with a password. Another recommendation would be to install at least one public bathroom in the hotel common area, so that guests would not have to return to their rooms to use the facilities. This is an older hotel, and some patrons may notice some dated design, but the carpets and furniture are newer and clean. The nautical elements are delightful, from the tugboat-turned-gift-shop to the portholes, ships' wheels, and other boating memorabilia tastefully displayed. If you're traveling to the Duluth-Superior area and are interested in a homey, mid-range hotel, the Bridgeview is for you! We'll definitely make reservations here the next time we return to the region.

As you can see in the pictures, it could not be used because it was broken and would not pull out all the way. Questionable stains on the couch and the carpet and the ceiling is falling apart. Couldn't flush the toilet at night cause it's louder than a 747. Fridge was warm. We told them about the broken pull out and they just offered to move us. We had a lot of stuff in the room and it was not worth moving. Could have offered some money off the room.

Basically, if the price is right, we will stay here. Location - The hotel is located in the bay/harbor area right off of Lake Superior which gives it some very nice views of the surrounding area and wildlife. There isn't much on the island but you are only a few miles away from Superior which offers numerous shops and restaurants. There is a nice little park at the entrance of the island that you can walk to. The trail is nice to walk when the weather is nice out, they have done a lot of native restoration in the area and it is full of wild flowers during that time. Also, go and see the last remaining whaleback boat - the SS Meteor. You can walk around the vessel for free or tour inside for a small entrance fee. Rooms & Building - Let's get it out of the way right now, the resort is older and dated. Is it in terrible condition? No. But it isn't brand new either. The rooms are at least clean and comfortable. It probably depends on what room you get but the rooms I have gotten have always been in good shape and clean. The beds have been comfortable and everything in the room has been in good working order. There are signs of wear and tear inside and outside but keep in mind (especially the outside) that Lake Superior winters are absolutely brutal and beat the tar out of everything in its wake. Amenities - The hotel has a large pool/hot tub area in the middle of the building. The pool is usually heated to a nice temp and the hot tub has good jets. There is a small arcade attached to the pool area. Lots of table seating for group gatherings. Food - There is no free breakfast options available but there is a restaurant/bar onsite. I have never tried it out but I have heard good things from the locals. Vibe - Easy going and super friendly staff. No complaints. Reality vs. Online - Pictures that I saw on their website and online matched the quality and condition of the hotel and rooms in-person. No surprises. Price & Final Verdict - Once again, if the price is right (I normally try to stay here around the $100 a night mark), then my family will choose this place. We have enjoyed our stays here. Although not the flashiest place to stay in the Duluth area, it is one of the more affordable options out there that offers a nice setting and amenities list.

Pros: -Great location with gorgeous patio views of Lake Superior and the marina. -Large indoor pool with hot tub and sauna. -On-site restaurant with reasonable prices. -Rooms included a fridge and microwave, which was handy. Cons: -Disappointing customer service. -Outdated hotel room with uncomfortable beds and sheets. -Constant humidity throughout the hotel from the indoor pool. The biggest issue came at check-in. I had secured my reservation online with a credit card, but when I arrived, I was told it had been cancelled due to a "credit card issue." I was never contacted about this cancellation. Luckily, rooms were still available and they honored my original rate, but if they hadn't, it would have been a serious problem. When I mentioned this to the manager, his response was that I "should have known" there was an issue since my card hadn't been charged--something I completely disagree with. The hotel should notify guests of cancellations, period. Another concerning moment happened at the pool. A manager noticed a guest vaping indoors, and instead of politely enforcing the policy, he loudly yelled across the area: "I better not see you vaping in here again." While vaping indoors isn't appropriate, the way it was handled felt highly unprofessional. Between the great location and amenities, there's potential here, but the customer service and professionalism left much to be desired.

I can speak and offer opinions with particularity and knowledge about hospitality. Unfortunately, lately, service and attention to detail have declined significantly. Perhaps due to cutting corners and not giving travelers what they deserve. Remember, people look for that little corner that somehow makes them feel close to home. I was very surprised and delighted to find this place. I didn't expect such personalized, friendly, and professional service. When I checked into the condo, I was pleasantly surprised. Large, comfortable, well-appointed, and with very tasteful details in the decor. Very well thought out. The privacy of the unit (305B) is excellent. The kitchenware and utensils are of very high quality. But the most important thing is the cleanliness and hygiene. A very rare bird, or Rara Avis, to find. I hope they continue like this. Especially with the bedding and towels. I wish them the best. Just one detail. They should have at least one unit with a shower for disabled guests, not for me, but for other people. Thank you.
