As you can see in the pictures, it could not be used because it was broken and would not pull out all the way. Questionable stains on the couch and the carpet and the ceiling is falling apart. Couldn't flush the toilet at night cause it's louder than a 747. Fridge was warm. We told them about the broken pull out and they just offered to move us. We had a lot of stuff in the room and it was not worth moving. Could have offered some money off the room.

Monday morning we added another night to be safe if our car wasn't ready . Turns out our car was ready a half hour after check out . We contacted Expedia to see our options as we booked this hotel through them . I have in a chat that Expedia would cancel with hotels permission. I walked down to front desk and was explaining the situation... the manager Michael said no we will not cancel this reservation ... I again explained the situation thinking maybe he would have some sort of compassion, But No he again repeated himself in a very rude tone ... I said Wow and walked away . I called best western customer service and they even tried to talk to the manager to see if they could make an exception. NOPE he stuck to his decision. DO NOT STAY HERE !!!

The construction workers…read morethat stay here leave their work boots in the hallways telling you what this location has become. We also noticed lots of construction workers in the parking lots drinking at night. Not a big deal but could be intimidating to some travelers out on a walk or arriving after dark. Maintenance is lacking. The old carrier ac units are noisy and would freeze up regularly. Rooms are older and in a semi maintained state. Old furniture showing wear and definitely not a white glove clean experience. Breakfast is no longer included but available for purchase. This is a property that is right at the point of needing to be demolished vs repaired. Sad as it is a pretty location with the marina and water on two sides. Overall this would be like an interstate Super 8 property for comparison. Adequate for a nights rest but if vacationing with a family I would suggest looking at a nicer property on the Duluth side.

Pros: -Great location with gorgeous patio views of Lake Superior and the marina. -Large indoor pool with hot tub and sauna. -On-site restaurant with reasonable prices. -Rooms included a fridge and microwave, which was handy. Cons: -Disappointing customer service. -Outdated hotel room with uncomfortable beds and sheets. -Constant humidity throughout the hotel from the indoor pool. The biggest issue came at check-in. I had secured my reservation online with a credit card, but when I arrived, I was told it had been cancelled due to a "credit card issue." I was never contacted about this cancellation. Luckily, rooms were still available and they honored my original rate, but if they hadn't, it would have been a serious problem. When I mentioned this to the manager, his response was that I "should have known" there was an issue since my card hadn't been charged--something I completely disagree with. The hotel should notify guests of cancellations, period. Another concerning moment happened at the pool. A manager noticed a guest vaping indoors, and instead of politely enforcing the policy, he loudly yelled across the area: "I better not see you vaping in here again." While vaping indoors isn't appropriate, the way it was handled felt highly unprofessional. Between the great location and amenities, there's potential here, but the customer service and professionalism left much to be desired.

Beacon Pointe I have been and try to be a frequent traveler…read more Through my professional activity and vacations with my family, I have had the opportunity and blessing to travel around many parts of the world. I can speak and offer opinions with particularity and knowledge about hospitality. Unfortunately, lately, service and attention to detail have declined significantly. Perhaps due to cutting corners and not giving travelers what they deserve. Remember, people look for that little corner that somehow makes them feel close to home. I was very surprised and delighted to find this place. I didn't expect such personalized, friendly, and professional service. When I checked into the condo, I was pleasantly surprised. Large, comfortable, well-appointed, and with very tasteful details in the decor. Very well thought out. The privacy of the unit (305B) is excellent. The kitchenware and utensils are of very high quality. But the most important thing is the cleanliness and hygiene. A very rare bird, or Rara Avis, to find. I hope they continue like this. Especially with the bedding and towels. I wish them the best. Just one detail. They should have at least one unit with a shower for disabled guests, not for me, but for other people. Thank you.

When I stayed at the Ritz…read morein Chicago or the Parker Meridien in NYC, despite the high design and luxurious touches, they still just felt like hotels. Meh. That said, the South Pier Inn was a remarkable surprise. To be fair, we sprung for one of the large rooms that was adjacent to the Aerial Lift Bridge. The room wasn't cheap, but there is nothing like looking at your window and seeing a thousand foot tanker sailing by a stone's throw away. Amazingly, the rooms are so well insulated from noise you could miss the whole thing. Fortunately, the hotel offers ship spotting calls, even in the wee hours of the morning so you don't miss a passing vessel (if that's your thing). The front desk staff was a textbook example of Minnesota nice. Such lovely people! And the simple continental breakfast (which I also usually hate) included wild rice cranberry bread made at an 80 year old institution. We even had the misfortune of booking a room when the small parking lot was being redone. However, the hotel managed that escapade very well, providing off site parking and a shuttle service to our car. It was such a treat to be able to walk over the bridge into the canal district, for a quick dinner without a drive, and to have such a well kept home base for our Minnesota adventure. Thank you for a lovely stay. I sincerely hope we get to return.
