My 4 year old loves animals. He knows just about every major animal and has the little toys to match. So when we surprised him with a spur of the moment trip to the Safari Park, he was beside himself. After a trek through what seemed like endless hills, we made it from the Walkabout to this pizza place. There were 8 of us, my family of six plus my brother-in-law and his husband. We opted to share the family meal for, gulp!, $49.99. Luckily, my brother-in-law had an annual pass so we had I think, 20%off. The meal came with 2 medium sized pizzas, we got one cheese for the kids and one pepperoni for the adults, a Caesar salad and 4 drinks. It's really meant for a family of four, so we really stretched it for the 8 of us. The pepperoni pizza only had 5 large pepperonis, so if you're a pepperoni fan like me, you may be disappointed. However, the pizzas, especially the crust, were delicious. It's cooked outside in what appears to be a brick oven pizza, but given the green nature of the zoo, it was gas fired. The cheese was melted just so and the crust had a crackery texture. I'm not much of a crust connoisseur, but I really liked this one. I'm on a keto diet and this crust was so thin I imagine the carbs couldn't be that much (I only had one slice). The location is right next to the carousel (which cost $6.00/ child) so there's something for the kids to do while waiting for the pizzas (which takes a long time...). I didn't expect such a wonderful and flavorful pizza just like my son didn't expect a trip to the zoo. Looks like both of us were pleasantly surprised. When it's almost 90 degrees outside and you need something ice cold and refreshing, this is the place to be. Reasonably priced drinks and food. Beer and pizza smack dab in the middle of the park. Quick service and a small area to sir and relax. What else can you ask for!? I'll be back for sure as I live move the park and all it has to offer. It's a good way to get your cardio on. VERY pleasantly surprised at the quality of pizza here. This is the most elevated cuisine in the Safari Park IMHO and although the topping combos are relatively limited the quality of texture and flavor across crust and toppings within their limited offerings is most excellent. Because we have annual passes and entry/parking doesn't cost extra, we'll come here just for this pizza if we're in a pizza mood. Highly recommend. read more

Wow i'm impressed. It's nice to see something actually good at a theme park. I usually just resign myself to some terrible hot dogs or stick food. I was looking for a sitdown restaurant at the San Diego Wild Animal Park and did not find one. This looked like a pretty good alternative to me, as compared to the other choices with extensive varied offerings the description on the map simply said "pizza and beer". I didn't get any beer but I did get a pepperoni pizza (see photo). It was pretty good! Yeah, pricey for what basically is slightly bigger than a fast-fire pizza, but still satisfying. If you're looking for a quick meal to satisfy the hunger you built up from walking, you can probably knock it out here. If you're wondering about the size, the pizza is good for 2 adults. You cannot feed a family of four with it, because the crust is incredibly thin. Hot tip: Do not get soda here. They water it down so much that it doesn't even taste anything like whatever it is supposed to be. read more

Safari Park gets it and has evolved past "park food" which is expensive and bland. Welcome to this century where people have choices, and good choices at that. Erase your perception of pizza at a zoo venue right now. Stay with me while I describe Barking Deer Pizza and Beer for you. First of all, they have 32 ounce local craft beer here, now do I have your attention? Their reasonably priced menu has pizza, salads and sandwiches and it is vegetarian friendly too, whoo hoo! But wait, there's more! The pizza is freshly made and cooked in a real pizza oven? Yessiree! This location is convenient, but not really close to the the animals. For theme park food, this place definitely did not disappoint and was more budget friendly then each person in our group buying a burger or something like that. Each pizza is about $20. There are no sizes so you're getting about a medium size pizza for that amount. They do have a family meal for $50 where you get two pizzas and for beverages. We opted for just two pizzas and forgo the combo just because we wanted to get souvenir cups instead of regular cups. I did not have high expectations, but I was pleased with how filling and got the pizza was. The two pizzas said myself, my boyfriend, a 14-year-old a 15-year-old and an 11-year-old. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The line was a little long, but there were only two ladies working in the kiosk. There were plenty of tables and near restaurant/kiosk. read more

Great pizza! We got the garlic chicken and pesto ($17) with a beer ($10). The pizza here is a little larger than a personal pizza but not quite large enough for two hungry people. Excellent pizza! It's one of my favorite places to eat at the Safari Park! This location, you place your order, get a buzzer, and pick up when it's ready. I usually sit at the Thorntree Terrace when I get pizza here, so I can watch the Coatimundis play! :) Pizzas are Neapolitan style. Can't go wrong with Classic Pepperoni! They also serve beer and wine. read more

Yum! Great wood-fired pizza, and so cool to find in the Park. A nice alternative to the usual hot dogs and hamburgers. Service is fast and the selection is nice. We had the chicken artichoke pesto pizza, and it was a good size and very tasty! Plenty for two hungry adults to share. Our only mild suggestion would be to include another handful of each topping on the pizza. Great experience overall. We'll be back! read more

Not sure about the rest of the food in the park but the pizza here was very good. I particularly had the margarita and I also had the Caesar salad which was with organic dressing. I was surprised about that! Anyhow very good pizza! read more
