The chicken pesto sandwich on their homemade pita bread was our family favorite. Even though we moved out of Amesbury, we would always get takeout when we were in the area. Not sure what they did to the recipe, but it's not the same. Pretty bland - no pesto. read more

This is mainly a bar with a small menu. I did not enjoy my sandwich the menu stated chicken with spinach and artichoke and cheeses. I did not realize it was basically chicken artichoke dip inside a sandwich. The description should reflect that on the menu. The place was dead on a Sunday afternoon. read more

2023 update-I added a star. They are much better than they used to be. They still sell that odd lumpy spinach dip, but they added a tater tot app that's great, and brought back mozzarella moons! Chicken salad pocket, barking blt and the burger are now our favorites. read more

Had a really good lunch today. Haddock with cornmeal crust, on a bed of rice and surrounded by fresh green beans. Generous servings of everything. Welcoming staff. Easy off street parking even though it was a busy noontime right in town. I'd certainly go back. read more

I strongly suggest that you do not eat here. I recently moved to the area and when I have gone in with my husband or nephew there are no problems. The one time I went in by myself the manager Mike refused to serve me. I am 57 and it was 5 pm at night. I am not a big drinker and had not had a single drink that day. Not sure why he has it in for me but whatever the reason it should be illegal to refuse service for absolutely no reason. The food is mediocre and there is no reason to ever go back. read more

Great atmosphere, great staff, great food selection and the craft beer selection had both scale and diversity ! When I find a place by searching "craft beer" I am pleased when the selection and number of beers do not disappoint. I am even more pleased when the menu is sufficiently diverse to make my non-craft beer wife happy. They had the usual burgers and mac&cheese, but salmon, steak tips and Shepard's pie (what I ordered). The Dog is the perfect place to go for good food and drink in a totally laid-back atmosphere. My favorite menu items are the chicken salad pita and the BLT (which has the most perfect bacon-to-veg-to-bread ratio ever). Unassuming bar with good eats! Wasn't expecting much from the food, especially since it feels divey when you first walk in plus the menu is large, but wow we were impressed. The bartender was attentive: she noticed I dropped personal items on the floor (twice) and chatted with my friend and throughout our lunch. Very friendly and gave us her thoughts on the dishes we wanted to try. Wish I remembered her name! Stella on draft Omission light pale ale (gluten free) Burger with pepper jack, and side salad (with loads of beautiful small diced tomatoes, yum! it was very fresh, even the ciabatta bread and greens were super fresh and tasty) All delicious. Ordered the pesto salmon and it was dried out and tasteless. My wife had the flank steak with blue cheese sauce. Meat was tasteless and blue cheese sauce was watery. Don't waste your money here, food is poor quality and has no flavor. read more

This will be my Yelp 1400, a recent Unofficial Yelp Event in my region SNH/NMA. I met up with some local Yelpers for an Unofficial Yelp Event at the Barking Dog. The turnout for this UYE was very small, initially meeting up with Don W. and wife Diane. The parking outside was crowded and I did manage to find a space way in the back of the public lot. We met up in the bar area which had a moderate crowd, not too loud, enough so we could carry on conversations. The TVs had the Bruins game on and later on a live musician performed near us. The menu sound pretty good and offered typical pub fare including soups, salads, appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, and fish & chips. A full dinner menu was also available which includes steaks, seafood, poultry, pork, and pasta dishes. The prices are moderate. We were going to get a regular table, but then decided to remain in the bar when no one else showed up. Rebecca O. joined us in the bar for a drink. I started out with a cup of chili ($4.50), which was very rich tasting, including meat, beans, and lots of cheese in a hearty tomato sauce. For my entrée, I had the Barking Dog Mac & Cheese ($8.50) served with a garden salad. The mac & cheese I had was one of the best I've had in a while, orecciette pasta with lots of cheeses baked in a casserole dish and topped with Ritz cracker crumbs. The salad was fresh and went well with the dish. Don ordered a Burger and Diane had the Fish & Chips, which they both thought were decent and average. We did have a good time catching up with each other, which was the main reason for our visit and we got to try a different place. Would highly recommend! Went here with my boyfriend and had a good time! I got clam chowder with the plain mac and cheese and he got the chicken broccoli alfredo. The chowder was AMAZING, and I'm picky about my chowder. The Mac and cheese was heavy, but delicious and tasted homemade. The Alfredo on the other hand was alright. I liked how they had tortellini instead of ziti in it. The sauce was the worst part though... it was very light and liquidy, and didn't really stick to the chicken, broccoli or pasta. Wish it was thicker like an actual Alfredo sauce. Besides that, very good! We had also gotten the tater tots as an appetizer that was delicious, and so filling! I would highly recommend this place! The staff was very friendly! The menu is huge and everything looks very good. We will definitely be back here to try some different things! read more

Small home town bar with an old school feel and great food. The jerk chicken wrap is so good and very spicy. Fries are nice crispy steak fries. I was here for my daughters Birthday weekend and wanted to try this place but she's a vegetarian so not too many options for her but, we went here, she had Mac n cheese along with a friend of mine, and my friend called it comfort food. Every one looks at you but looks away because they don't know you and shrug away hoping you won't sit near them. I purposely sat next to a large group and immediately all backs were turned toward me like I was an alien. Don't waste your time even if you're a new arrival they won't let you in.
