After trying a couple weeks ago we called ahead tonight to check on the wait, luckily we timed it right and were able to get right in! Margaritas were delicious, good options for kids as well! Chips, salsa, guacamole and cheese dip were perfect while we waited for our dinners. We sat at the bar tonight and had their wings with ranch dressing. We split them along with a beer and a glass of white wine. The wings were delicious. One minor point was they shouldn't have bothered with the celery as it was terrible. The service was good but not overly friendly which was ok. They offer salsa and chips, for me, the salsa was perfect but if you're looking for spicy this wasn't it. We would definitely return. I also loved the Day of the Dead decorations. We have been going to Casa Maria since they opened. The service and quality of food was better in the first several months they were opened. We always get a pitcher of margaritas and then order our food. The pitcher of margaritas isn't worth the $60 we paid. The food is inconsistent and the portions have varied drastically. The most disappointing part of going to Casa Maria is that the owner, who is there most of the time, doesn't take initiative to fix any issues. He doesn't greet you when you go to his restaurant. I hope the ownership can improve this restaurant. read more

While their vibe, attentive staff, and drinks were great, all the food was subpar by most Mexican standards (including Chipotle). The Guac starter was very small and had the tell-tale "sheen" of mass produced guacamole (although I hope not). Chips and salsa were very average and also seemed to be packaged products. Shrimp enchiladas were fresh but just some spiced shrimp wrapped in a flour tortilla with sauce toppings which were too spicy for my wife and without any forewarning. The accompanying rice gave a bland instant rice vibe, and the refried beans were average (I make them at home, so I know). A good, large, and diverse menu with reasonable prices. My wife reports the house margarita being tasty. All in all a good place for drinks and if you aren't much of a foodie or have a preference for more authentic Mexican food. And sorry to pull down the ratings for what is a welcome addition to the burgeoning Amesbury restaurant scene. Casa Maria Tacos & Tequila opened in Amesbury very recently in the former SKY HI Kitchen + Bar space, adding another Mexican restaurant and bar to the local dining scene. The space is fairly cozy with the long bar with seats and 6 booths in the front section and a back area with additional tables and booths. The walls have plenty of festive decorations. Ever since they opened, the place has been very busy during dinner rush with every seat at the bar occupied and 20 minute+ waits to be seated. I stopped by Casa Maria for dinner very recently. When I arrived, the place was packed with lots of folks waiting to be seated and every seat at the bar occupied. I waited for about 12 minutes before a seat at the bar became available. Complementary chips and salsa were also brought over, which were thin crunchy chips and a mild tomato salsa. One of the bartenders arrived and offered a drink (I got an ice water) and promptly placed my food order for the #7 Combo: 1 Taco, 1 Rellano, 1 Tamale with rice and refried beans ($15.99 plus tax). My entree was served 13 minutes later, which was served on a big hot plate, a very good portion of food. Taco was filled with moist shredded chicken, pico de gallo, lettuce, shredded cheese in a crunchy fried tortilla shell. The rellano was very soft and filled with melted cheeses in a folded pepper and topped with red sauce and melted cheese. The pork tamale was soft and dense topped with red sauce and melted cheese. The Mexican rice and refried beans with melted cheese were standard sides. I also took a peek at the dessert menu, which offered churros, fried ice cream and flan. The couple next to me ordered churros and fried ice cream which looked pretty average, so I skipped dessert and got the check which came out to $17.58 with tax and $0.59 overhead charge and before tip. Overall, the food I ordered was very good abd very filling to eat. The gentleman next to me ordered the Washinango, which was an IG worthy whole red snapper (deep fried) served with rice and beans. Food is really flavorful. They're plentiful in size. I've had them delivered with DDash for a fee. The food has been well packed. I'm too close to weigh in on how it holds up for deliveries that are farther away. As for the restaurant, it is pretty steady with business. This was our first experience with Casa Maria. We came on a Monday at 5:30pm and appreciated that they were open when most restaurants were closed. The positives of our experience were that we thought the food was good, the rice was good, the margarita was good, the service was good and attentive, the menu had a good variety, and the prices were reasonable. We hope they will be successful and offer these suggestions and observations to management. There was a musty smell in the restaurant that hits you right away, which was not appetizing. The decor was interesting. However, the staff service area that was visible beyond the bar was very messy and dirty, again, not appetizing. Even though it was early and there weren't many customers, it was very loud. The wait staff were actually shouting to each other across the space which reverberates around the walls which amplified the noise and made it hard for customers to have a conversation. I can't imagine how loud it would be when busy. The early dinner crowd has different expectations than the Friday night bar crowd. Some sound dampening elements in the space and a staff that is sensitive to not making unnecessary noise would make for a more desirable experience during the off-hours. Hope that helps. read more

Goes great with a sizzling well-portioned skillet of steak fajitas. The house salsa is great, aromatic with fresh cilantro. Comfortable relaxed atmosphere. My friend and I came out on 4/12 Friday at 5:30. We were celebrating being smoke free for a year. We love Mexican so we were very excited to get the flights of margaritas that we saw advertised. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated. We sat and were given chips and salsa. They must make their own because the chips were overcooked and definitely on the verge of being burnt. We waited about 10 minutes for someone to come over to take our drink order. We finally stopped someone to ask who our server was. The gentleman did not know we were his table. We got our drink order in. 2 flights of margaritas. The margaritas get to the table. We tried each one and they were ok. There was one that that chile in it and it was very spicy. My friend was surprised. I tried hers and it was made very differently. Way less chile. We ordered the cheese dip, chicken and steak fajitas, chicken quesadilla & 2 tacos. We were going to try everything. The fajitas came out not sizzling. My first bite was overwhelmingly peppery. I maybe ate a couple bites more and set it aside. The ground beef tacos were flavorless and super oily. When I took a bite the other side shot forth a forceful oil stream. Took one bite and wouldn't take another. The quesadilla was super greasy and just not good. The best part was the cheese dip and burnt chips. We spent about $100 and left hungry. It is early days of the restaurant. Maybe they'll get better. I ordered the street tacos Al pastor. It came with black beans on the side and chips. The tacos were amazing. The meat tasted like real Al pastor meat. I was hesitantly excited when I saw that a new Mexican restaurant was coming to Amesbury and after getting take out tonight I am so glad it has! Not only was the food beautifully packaged in long foil dishes, but they also gave us a bag of chips and salsa which was delightful! Both burritos were delicious and filling. Absolutely INCREDIBLE food. My husband and I ordered takeout tonight, and we were hesitant because this place just recently opened. We've been DESPERATE for good Mexican food since we moved to Amesbury a few years ago, and this place ABSOLUTELY delivers. The first test for me is always the packaging a takeout Mexican place decides to go with, and their burritos came beautifully packed in long casserole-style foil dishes with plastic lids, the burrito itself loaded with sauce, cheese, guacamole; absolutely fantastic presentation. Bonus points for chips and salsa included with the takeout! The actual food itself was SO good. We got a Macho Burrito and a Carnitas Burrito - both were absolutely amazing. INCREDIBLY excited for some PHENOMENAL Mexican food so close to home! A great addition Amesbury's downtown! Can't wait to try their Margaritas!! read more
