I arrived a bit early before the Barking Frog opened (5pm) so I decided to visit the Fireside Lodge for a drink where I met a very pleasant staff member upon entering and meeting another at the bar. Very friendly and customer service oriented. They have a beautiful back bar with a wonderful selection of premium spirits, wines and locally produced beers. I must say I was very impressed with the selection of whiskeys that include whiskeys frim Japan! For supper I ordered a seared King Salmon and a Diver Scallop! Wow! It was is culinary delight! Wonderful staff. Relaxing atmosphere, clean environment, sufficient parking, great wine list, well stocked bar and a cool desserts with item you won't find elsewhere else. We were seated in the patio and if you're looking for vibes, this place is pretty undefeated, but unfortunately I have to say their restaurant week menu didn't impress me. Not too difficult to get a weekday reservation, but the restaurant was completely full and we definitely snagged the last parking spot in the outdoor lot, so I'm not sure where the overflow is. Bread Basket (2.75/5): A lot of the bread options were a bit stale and it's pretty expensive for nothing to stand out. Oysters (4.25/5): Probably the best bite. Super fresh and not fishy at all. Crab Cake (4/5): Good crunch and crab added some sweetness. Very solid. PB&J Foie Gras (3/5): I was most excited to try this, but I can't say I actually enjoyed it. It was interesting, but the foie gras was a little too gamey. Salmon Agnolotti (3/5): Agnolotti was good and portions were solid, but the salmon was barely seasoned / extremely under salted. Dropped by Barking Frog yesterday for a business dinner with a group of six, and honestly, the kitchen nailed it. We started off sharing a few apps for the table. The crab cakes had a perfect sear, and the oysters were incredibly clean and well-shucked. The poke udon was an inspired standout--the texture of the fish cut into an udon shape was spot on. For the protein, I went with the lamb and lobster tail. The lamb was perfectly executed--tender, great mouthfeel, and the flavor profile was balanced without being overpowering. The lobster was butter-poached to perfection with a great snap. I ended up double-padding the finish with two desserts (no regrets). The bergamot was a nice hit of acidity to cut through the meal, and the crème brûlée had a flawless, glass-like torch on the sugar. It's rare to see a menu where every plate has such a distinct identity and well-developed flavors, but the line really nailed the execution. Service was top-tier, too. The FOH staff were super friendly, knew the specs of every dish, and hit that sweet spot of being attentive without hovering. Our entire group loved the meal. They are absolutely fantastic!!! I have some pretty gnarly allergies and they totally were willing to work with me and went above and beyond which made me feel really comfortable. And I don't get that very often. Tyler the manager was wonderful... And so full of knowledge about the area. I recommend the Earl Gray chocolate ice cream in an avocado style. Came here for lunch with a friend yesterday. Sat on the patio. We ordered the queso fundido and the burger to share. The fundido was good, but I was somewhat disappointed that they didn't make the effort to make tortillas from scratch or at least serve better quality tortillas. They were basic run of the mill grocery store corn tortillas. Missed opportunity to shine considering they make most everything here from scratch and dinner here has always been elevated and really good. Ordered the burger med-rare. It came out well done. I would have asked for it to be replaced but our server NEVER came back to our table to check on us after our food was dropped off. She did go to the two tables next to us multiple times. And she definitely looked at us and just kept walking. I literally said to my friend "she isn't coming to our table because she can clearly see that I haven't touched my burger". It was really obvious as I caught her glancing at our table 2-3 times. But nope. She chose to ignore us so she didn't have to deal with it or fix anything. 30 minutes later she finally came over and said "can I get you to-go box?" I still hadn't touched my burger. I mean come on! I politely said no thanks, the burger was well done and there was zero pink. Instead of saying I'm sorry, or oh no, or can I get you another one or remove it from our bill, offer dessert, comp a drink, literally ANYTHING.... She said absolutely NOTHING, picked up my plate, walked away and then immediately dropped off the check. Burger still on the bill. She did not give a damn and it was obvious. She wanted her full tip (which we still gave her) and didn't want to deal with any inconvenience on her part. It was such poor form and quite frankly left a bad taste in my mouth. I have always praised this place, we have been coming here for almost 9-10 years. We even have our favorite server at dinner, who used to be our favorite bartender. Still a great, elegant place to go! Went hear during SRW (funny, I was reading my review from SRW 2019!). Definitely a place for special occasions or a treat to yourself. Ambience. Design fabulous Lodge Pacific Northwest Feel. Monday morning breakfast is easy and not too busy. Big difference from their weekend branches. Pretty good coffee drinks. They make their chocolate Grenache for the mocha in house. My husband liked the huckleberry pancakes, although I thought they could have more berries There wasn't much for me except for avocado toast with fell flat. The avocado was more like a mash, and the bread was not even warm or toasted. It was bland . I only had a few bites. But they were kind and helpful. Went here for Seattle Restaurant Week. This is the menu choices you can have for a 3-course lunch meal at $35. I love the mushrooms appetizer and cauliflower soup (very creamy). The duck confit was also pretty good as a main dish. The Butternut squash risotto had some pickled onions or something. The dessert the honey butter ice cream was surprisingly good, and the chocolate panna cotta was very rich and really good too. The staff were super nice and really hospitable. We have been to the Barking Frog for anniversaries, birthdays, and date nights over the past - what 10 or so years, and we have never been disappointed. Cauliflower soup was blended super well and benefited from adding salt and pepper. The mushroom appetizer was nice with all the sauce compliments eaten together vs separately. Duck confit was tender and really flavorful, complimented well with the flavors and textures of the vegetables. Came to Woodinville to do some wine tasting and a little staycation. We decided to stay at the Willows Lodge and try Barking Frog for brunch before we headed back to Seattle. I made a reservation for 12:30 and we arrived early as I hadn't realized that the restaurant was right across from the main entrance to the lodge. We were seated right away, which was nice. The place isn't huge but the set up is fairly nice and they maximize the space. Decor was also well done. I ordered a passion fruit bellini, it was good but took a little bit to come out. We had the beignets to start, they were good and the strawberry rhubarb cream cheese spread was really nice. For mains we had the the Barking Frog breakfast and the biscuits and gravy with eggs. My bf definitely enjoyed his Barking Frog breakfast, and while I overall enjoyed the biscuits and gravy it could've used a little more gravy to biscuit ratio, especially for thick semi dry biscuits. Getting my eggs over easy helped. I left probably 40% of the biscuits on plate. A good meal overall but service could've been a bit better and the time between ordering a drink, looking for our server and making eye contact with other staff and being ignored left me feeling a little weird. If a manager sees you swivelling your head 20 times and making eye contact maybe they could stop by and see if everything is okay. It was busy so I'll give them some grace. Wine list - OVER five stars incredible and I appreciated having higher quality wines in half bottle sizes. The sommelier Beth is a STAR and I recommend visiting to talk to her and try the wines. Unfortunately I found the food way overpriced for quite small portions. This is a case of tweezery, overly done food that tosses too much on the plate so the flavors are chaotic and at times fighting each other. I had the sunchoke soup, which was more like a puree. It had multiple oils, some kind of microgreen which tasted like grass (not wonderful), and while each bite was a little different (in a good way), overall it didn't have a lot of flavor. It was in a TINY cup sized bowl. I also got the bread, and I tried a little of each kind served, and none of them were that appealing. One had far too much thyme in it (if you like thyme you will enjoy). One was dry and flavorless, the multigrain tasted like my sandwich bread. The other two were okay. Why do five breads instead of one really good one? For entree I got the scallop dish. The three scallops in my scallop dish were perfectly cooked and tasted great, but three scallops is basically what you get for dinner with this meal. (for $52) The only additional items were multiple sauces on the plate, and three spiced cauliflower stalks. Just three. The two sauces clashed. One was middle-eastern spiced, and overpowering, the other perfect and delicious. I think it was saffron, which should have paired with the other sauce profile, but didn't. The saffron one was luscious and creamy, the other jarring, cinnamon-ish and overpowering. There were a few sultanas, and they were great. If you're paleo or keto, or GF this is a good option. It is very light, though, and you may still be hungry after. I realize American portions are WAY too large, and I far prefer eating smaller portioned courses, but this soup and scallop seemed like the first two courses in a progression, not an appetizer and entree which is how it's set in the menu and cost almost $100. Short Answer: Pick the "Barking Frog." Bigger party? Small party? Yes. Need fantastic food, ambiance AND amazing service? Here you go. They have you covered. A Bit Longer Answer (as those who know me have come to expect): ...and they say advertising doesn't work...Ha! It did for me! While sitting in front of my computer this morning, coffee in hand, going hither and yon between financial articles and the daily deluge of emails, I stumbled upon an email from "Barking Frog." Oh...ooh...oh my...their menu was enchanting. It was enchanting enough to convince me to book a table for this evening for my husband and me. Just saying, when you are directed to the "Open Table" website there is this little box down further that asked for any notes you might want to provide. I usually do. No, it wasn't anything all that important, I just said I was "hijacking my husband of 36+ years from yard work for a "date night". That's all. Dash forward to walking in. We were greeted by a lovely hostess named Hailey, who had a smile and an attitude that welcomed you immediately. She had actually read my comments. How nice! Tim, our main server, and Victor. his assistant, were perfectly available without hovering. Tim actually knew the menu. He referred to his notes on occasion to verify a question. As often as they change their menu, depending on what is fresh, and/or the groovy whimsy of the chef, I appreciate Tim's attention to detail. By the by, our table was wonderful! It was in a corner, on a corner so we could see their outside deck (which looks fantastic but a bit too humid for me tonight), their cool kitchen and the other guests. It may have been the best table there. I would certainly ask for it again. You know that table that is in the corner without you feeling you are "stuck in a corner"? Nice! The noise level is, in my humble opinion, PERFECT! They were busy, especially for a Tuesday but, even with the fairly open concept, it was not loud, just happy chatter. We could easily hear each other. Yay! Our food? OH MY GOSH! We started with their house salad, "The 'Hidden Choice". Light, with a balsamic dressing to die for, obviously freshly cut romaine and the sweetest baby tomatoes... We also ordered their breadbasket - highly recommend this! There were at least four different types of bread - all freshly made and very good. They also had a gluten-free selection available, but I am afraid I am more a "Go Gluten or Go Home" kind of gal. I admit, I did ask another guest at another table who had ordered the gluten-free option what she thought, and she said it was wonderful. Our entrées? They were both lovely in presentation and flavor!!! I ordered the Diver Scallops option. Oh, happy day! The saffron yogurt sauce, the vanilla sultans, the pistachios, and the vadouvan carrots were seriously the perfect accompaniment to those DIVER SCALLOPS! (I had to look the vadouvan spice mix up after I got home just to make sure, it's a French derivative -as Tim mentioned, of a masala spice mix - BIG FAN... Oh, World Spice in Seattle carries it, I just ordered it...but I digress) We, lovers of scallops, understand that there is a FINE LINE between complimenting scallops and overpowering them. The Barking Frog rocked this one! The scallops were so delicious! And the way they were presented, on top of all these delightful flavors, carefully placed individually but alongside each other, allowing you to either enjoy them together or separately (my vote is to include them all in one bite, but that is me). As Tim also shared, it is not a "hot" just truly tasty. We also had a side of some of the best asparagus I have had in forever. Craig opted for the "long bone pork chop". Now, let me preface this by saying Craig has had issues with pork chops over the years. They tend to be a bit tough, right? Pork, I find, is often so lean it comes at the expense of tender...but, God bless him, Craig took a leap of faith and ordered it (after quizzing poor Tim for at least a few minutes). The presentation: gorgeous. The pork chop itself: INCREDIBLE! So tender and good! The way they plated it was completely different to what I had seen before. It was innovative and allowed for such a thick chop to be cooked to perfection without having the outside being overdone. Craig was over the moon. I assured myself, and Craig, I was skipping dessert...until I saw their crème Brulee. Wicked temptress that it is...and with these lavender-vanilla shortbread cookies...I mean really, can you blame me? Gorgeous sugar crust, sweet custard (but not too sweet)...Heaven sent. The bread was also a miss -- very salty and not enjoyable at all, to the point where we couldn't finish it. My husband took me out to dinner at Barking Frog restaurant while we were visiting my family in the area. I had a nice French 75 for my cocktail, my husband had a Vesper. We shared foie gras for our starter, I had Pacific sturgeon for my main, my husband had the diver scallops. My husband ordered a nice bottle of French champagne to go with dinner. It's been such A long time since I visited this restaurant. This is always my favorite place. The ambiance, staff and FOOD are all superb. And this visit was no different. SRW menu included dishes I like such as pear salad and scallops. So happy! I usually have menu that I don't like especially out of SRW menu and rather pass places I'd visit otherwise. The pear salad was a good portion with pear, arugula, candid walnuts and Gorgonzola balanced perfectly with delicate vinaigrette. The scallops were perfectly cooked not dry not raw. The citrus sauce and the well seasoned mashed potato were not overwhelming. Roasted broccolis were charred and a bit of bitterness I'd rather have them steamed. The chocolate mousse was smooth and not too sweet but rich which I really liked. Ordered a cup of coffee which was strong and accompanied very well with the cake. Overall I'm glad I came. Giving an update of our last few trips to Woodinville to drink wine that typically happens on a Sunday. We like to eat a bit before the tasting and Barking Frog is a great place for brunch. Since we always land here around lunch time we've found it's always busy and there's a wait and sometimes we're seated at the bar, so I would recommend you plan ahead a get reservations. I would reserve for noon and then the wine tasting should be 2-2:15PM. I don't think you can really go wrong with quality and freshness of the food on the menu. What caught my eye last time was either the steak and eggs or the huevos rancheros. The staff all love the rancheros, so I ordered them and they were the best I've eaten in Seattle area, hands down. The more you mixed the ingredients together with some hot sauce it just got better and better. If you're a Mexican food lover, don't pass these up. Wife had a mimosa and I ordered ice tea and then switched to a bloody Mary that went well with my rancheros, although I think I finished the drink before the food arrived. I've never had dinner here and if it wasn't for the hectic atmosphere of seating during the busy Sunday lunch crowd, I'd say this could be a 5 star review. I can't think of a worthy alternative for lunch/brunch before wine tasting in Woodinville, so put Barking Frog on your short list. P.S. Sorry no new photos my last few times here. read more

We are locals who come at least 3-4 times per year. This was our go- to favorite restaurant. Have never had a bad- or even mediocre meal here. Until last night. We were shocked, and also a bit embarrassed as my out of town bff was treating us. Lots of unimpressive changes. Service was phenomenal and the reason why this review got two stars instead of one. Wait staff was attentive and diplomatically tried to guide us away from the less desirable dishes, while still being positive. Ambience is still lovely. We usually get foie gras as an appetizer. Last visit it was presented beautifully, under a smoke filled dome. We could not order it this time because staff informed us that it was prepared ala torchon - so that the "kitchen did not have to take the time to sauté it" - along with peanut butter powder and jellied strawberry. Yuck. No amuse bouche. That used to be a staple here. No visit from the sommelier. Bread service was a ring of rolls- not the lovely assortment we used to love to pay extra for. Our beet salad was fantastic. I must say it was the highlight of the meal. The menu was extremely sparse. We were told that the special that night "was not ready yet". Seriously?? The only steak on the menu was smoked. Smoked? Thankfully our wait staff did point that out. We ordered scallops, and got 3 quarter sized scallops on a plate of runny grits for $52. The pieces of bacon served with it, were dry, but flavorful. The king salmon entree was done very well, with the flavors complimenting the fish perfectly. However, my friend's peach melba dessert was way too sweet and she could only eat a bite or two. No handmade chocolates for us at the end either... We will need to find another go to restaurant in the area. In general, we were surprised because now there is competition down the road at the Somm. Barking Frog, please up your game! A disappointment. We had heard so many good things from gourmet friends that our expectations were high. Their setting is superb as is the interior. On a packed Sunday evening the crowd noise was somehow muffled making conversation easy. The waiter appeared quickly asking for our drink order but not inquiring if we would like bread for the table. The menu used adjectives that seemingly were intended to impress if not intimidate since they fell short of explanation. My frog legs appetizer was tasteless a the braised lamb shank served with pappardelle would have been better described as pappardelle mixed with pulled lamb. Far more pasta than lamb and the quantity of meat less than a shank. The crème brûlée was not a set custard but more a flavorless mush. My guests and I thought the wait staff adequate and the food below average given our expectations and the prices. We will not return. read more
