I had the exact same experience as Scott. I had been told by a law enforcement officer who was also that departments firearms instructor that if I wanted my Para 1911 repaired that Barlow's Custom Guns was the place to take it. (They are the best on repairing 1911's). I went to the shop and told them of the problem I was having with the gun, that it was not cycling fully to chamber the next round. The gun was left for several months and not hearing from the shop I went in and was told that they couldn't find any issue with it. After getting the gun back I called Para and reported the cycling problem to them. I was sent a return box; postage paid and sent the gun to Para for their EXPERTS to look at the gun. They contacted me after just a few days and told me that the PROBLEM WAS OBVIOUS, the frame was bent, and a new gun was sent me by Para to replace the broken one. Now that is customer service. P.S. I told the department firearms instructor of my problem with Barlow's, and he said that he would NEVER again recommend them to anyone else. Scott I. Did not fix the extractor issue on my handgun after bringing it in twice, also very insulting, does not know how to talk to customers . Took my firearm elsewhere and had the extractor issue fixed quickly. read more

Steve is a true craftsman. He's worked on several S&W revolvers, Colt 1911s and Hi Powers for me over the years. Fixed some that had problems from the factory. Excellent quality takes time and money. Steve has always turned out a lot of quality for the price he charges. Couldn't be happier, highly recommended. read more

I guess Yelp is not really he review spot for gun smiths. But this review is because Steve is so accommodating and a true gentleman. I am a bit of a novice to guns but love shooting at the range and I love the sport. As a novice, I created an issue with the gun that caused a jam I could not figure out. I looked for a gunsmith and Barlows was the closest. Glad it was. I explained the issue with Steve, and told him the rifle was fairly new. That it may be under warranty. No problem he said. Let me take it apart and if it's a warranty issue I'll let you know. There is a shop charge of $22 and that's exactly what it cost me. No fuss. No mess with shipping back to mfg for an issue I caused. Steve was accommodating and super helpful. He removed the jam, cleaned the rifle, bore sighted it and made some key adjustments to put me back on track and back at the range this weekend. All in a 24 period! Thanks Barlows read more

I had him work on a pistol years ago and, unlike the previous complaint, he got to it very quickly. He ruined it as fast as anyone could. Not only did he not do the work, he actually ruined the gun and it had to be sold for parts. As a police officer I had purchased the gun as a back up. Needless to say, I had to purchase a different weapon. He did not make good on his error. I would not have work on any of my firearms--even for free. read more

well not a whole lot to say, other than I've been calling around trying to find an actual (gunsmith) and I was told to call this place. So I called, and all I'm looking for is someone who can look at a new Mosin Nagant rifle I got and give it a good thorough cleaning, and clean all the cosmoline out of it and take a look at the bolt and fix or do something with the bolt because when it has rounds in it it is hard to chamber a round and close the bolt shut, and is leaving scratches on the shell casings. I have seen many YouTube videos of people talking about this exact problem and there are apparently fairly easy and simple solutions for it however I do not have the proper tools or equipment or trust myself enough to attempt to do it myself. I would much rather have it done by a professional anyways as soon as I said I have a Mosin-Nagant, the guy on the phone just said nope sorry I don't do those, and that was the end of that.. It's just a bolt action rifle, I feel that any decent gunsmith worth his salt should have no problem with that. i mean isn't that a gunsmiths job? to be able to fix guns and figure out what's going on?? shouldn't matter what the gun is.. And again it's just a bolt action rifle not a MG-42 machine gun! anyway I was pretty annoyed by that, so that being said, personally I am not impressed. read more

Steve is the best gunSmith in Utah, and I have used a lot of them. If you want it done right the first time give it to steve!

I have taken five of my guns to Barlow's. He has always treated me with courtesy and respect. What I really appreciated about his service is he took the time to explain everything he felt needed to be done and why. He is extremely patient and competent and has always finished his work when stated and as stated. I doubt he's the cheapest Gunsmith in town, but you get what you pay for and my firearms are valuable and I will continue to use his services. Highly recommended. read more

Don't expect any help from these guys when things go wrong. They don't have simple communication skills to let you know what's going on. Save yourself a huge headache and go anywhere else! read more
