I visited this store because I didn't want to wait for Amazon to deliver the book I wanted. I was surprised at the variety of books they carried. They are bit more expensive than Amazon but I love the Starbucks coffee shop inside that offers quiet space to work & sip. The Starbucks coffee does not accept Starbucks gift cards or rewards. The books are wonderfully organized and they offer unique and beautiful gift options. They also have board games, Puzzles and leather bound journals. Enjoyed this location a lot. From the outside looking in, it looks huge-like it has multiple levels. It's only one big floor but it's spacious with a café. Not many B&Ns left so it was nice to visit this one. They are very clean and well organized and their books are all neatly "faced." The price of hardcover books has gone up exponentially so we didn't end up purchasing any actual books but were able to find cute cards and journals. It was nice to look around all of their sections and what they have to offer ! It makes sense since physical books are a dying art and have to markup prices since sales are lower these days. read more

Barnes and Noble Booksellers is my go-to book store. It's big and spacious and I can find whatever it is I'm looking for there. I always go straight to their history section, while my mother loves the mysteries. It's a good place to go for birthdays and gifts. I still love a physical book that I can hold. Easily the best B&N location I've visited in a while. Every time I've walked in an employee has always greeted me and asked if I needed assistance at some point during my visit which I've appreciated. The store has a diverse set of collectibles, board games, manga, LEGO, stationary, and more beyond just books. Still has a rockin physical media section filled with DVDs, CDs, and Vinyls as well. read more

The customer service at this store is terrible. None of the employees bother to ask the customers if they need assistance, and if you CAN find one of them at their counter, they act like you are a burden and would rather be doing anything than help you locate a book. The price of the new books themselves is ridiculous. I don't understand why they don't try and sale price the bestsellers better, when you can get the new, popular titles at Target and Walmart for titles that they don't even have a discount on (and a lot of these are big named titles). Also, what is with their new stickers $3 off? 3 dollars off a 28.99 new release is not that hot. Since I am not big on talking to their employees, because of their terrible customer service, looking through their book shelves is more ridiculous than their manners. Who taught these people how to shelve? Everyone knows you alphabetize by author and then title of the books. Someone did not inform their staff how to do this, because the books are a mess. I wonder how much effort is put in to shelving correctly, because they are just thrown up there, with the same title spread out in numerous spots throughout that author's area, and considering their are face-outs, you can tell it was an employee who did this and not the customers. read more

Located in the swanky Deer Park Town Center, this standalone Barnes and Noble makes a statement. It's quite large when you compare it to my local (soon to be closed) Barnes and Noble in Crystal Lake. It's one floor, but very spacious! If you can't find a book in this place, you're not trying hard enough! What brought me to this store was my brother's birthday. He's very big into the Space program and with the anniversary of Apollo 11, I thought the best present would be a good book on it! After searching the website to find a store with the title I wanted, I called and spoke with a very helpful bookseller who grabbed the book and placed it on hold for me in less than 5 minutes time. She was super on the ball and friendly on the phone. A few hours later, I was in the store, exploring before heading to the registers for my book. The music section is a bit weird. First, it's huge. Second, they have much more than just music and DVDs in there! If you're a pop collector, make sure to head into the music department-- there's a ton of them on shelves that used to hold DVDs. Barnes and Noble is definitely pushing vinyl records, as they outnumber CDs in most of these stores now. So, if you're in the market for some vinyl (and don't mind paying a bit more for it than you would at a used shop or online), check these guys out. (I impulsively bought the beautiful Disney's Mulan picture disc. It's a piece of artl!) The books are all organized well enough so you can typically find what you need without assistance. If you do, though, there's always friendly staff on hand. I encountered a few while I was exploring. It can be frustrating when staff 'pounce' on you while shopping (I'm looking at you Best Buy...), but thankfully this wasn't the case at Deer Park's Barnes and Noble. My 'just looking' was enough for the staff to realize I was browsing and didn't need any extra assistance. The only thing I'd change about this and all the Barnes and Nobles is the pricing. It doesn't feel great having to pay an extra $5.00 to $10.00 for a book just to buy it in store when the website has a cheaper price, but I understand why they can't discount as deeply as their website. The costs of keeping a physical store open are way more expensive than an online one, I'd imagine, so for that, even though it's frustrating, I can't blame the store itself. The cashier I encountered was super nice. He found my hold easily. The book itself was a little bent out of shape, but since they only had the one copy, I went ahead and picked it up. (I'm a bit picky about my book covers...) He asked about the member card, but didn't badger me about it (thank you!!!). His friendly attitude was the perfect ending to a nice, relaxing walk around this brick and mortar bookstore. read more

Horrible service my nook has not worked for 3 months service contact will not answer. Chat will not work. Manager rude when asking for help. Buy e books you can not read or get to on your nook. Asked the young lady in the Children's department for a specific book we needed for our homeschool lessons. She told me to look in the "education" area of the store. I explained that I was pretty sure that it was in the children's area. She argued with me, quite loudly, that is was NOT in the children department. For my own amusement, I checked the education area of the store, and lo and behold, it was not there. I went back into the children's department and told my kids, ages 7 and 9, what we were looking for. Guess what!? They found the book we needed.... in the CHILDREN'S DEPARTMENT. As I walked past the employee before checking out, I flashed the book at her and whispered "children's department." She rolled her eyes at me. Thank goodness for the Barnes and Noble near my house. Today I went in with a rather large list of books that I was buying for my classroom. I was greeted at the door, and explained how much I was buying. The manager led me to a woman named, Sierra (I think that is how you spell her name), and she became my personal shopper! She asked me to wait by customer service, and took off to gather all 18 books! When she returned, she apologized for taking so long(she really did!), and she told me that there were four books that they did not have on their shelves. So, the manager and another worker got together, and they said they would order the books and have them shipped to my school, and they would waive the shipping fee! They also apologized for not having the books in stock. Sierra was a true angel, because she was so helpful, and truly enjoyed what she was doing. She even walked me to my car, and helped put the bags of books in my trunk. Honestly, she made my day! I am making a promise that this B&N is forever my B&N! The staff here were incredible! Store is beautiful. Service still stinks. The team follows the lead of the manager who is just not a customer service focused person. I was looking for Crain's Chicago Business...she said no Barnes and Nobles carries it. I asked if she could go to the site and see where the closest place to find it might be because their (Crain's) site was not mobile friendly. She said she couldn't do that. (There was no one in the store and 3 employees standing around) - Ok fine. I went to the site - and low and behold. Barnes and Nobles in Chicago carries it! I told her, the store number and the address. She couldn't find the store 'in their system'. I was quiet - having given all of the information I was going to give. These new Barnes and Nobles all seem the same to me. They are huge and seem to have every book known to man. It was organized and clean. The employees were knowledgeable. No complaints here. I just wish it wasn't so darn expensive! This location has a cafe inside that you can order a freshly brewed Starbucks coffee. The menu is a bit limited though. Typical Barnes & Noble. Like the large size and the Starbucks cafe' inside it. I enjoy litting in the comfortable chairs near the windows. Would have given it a 5 rating but they only have 2 chairs yet have room for 4-6 more. I often see people sitting on the floor reading. read more

To Chris D. who gave a 1 star rating for a-hole employees, I don't blame you. That's pretty bad. However, I might have found the reason. I heard a manager chew out an employee for something inconsequential, in public, in front of other customers. That manager, she needs to go back to school to learn how to communicate better. Poor employee was told to punch back into work over the speaker phones. I wonder if the employee had even had taken all of their alloted break time? I give a negative star to that old bag of a manager. She needs to be fired for treating employees like that. Maybe the employees are mistreated and taking it out on customers. I asked the cashier about the variance between the online price and the in store price and wether I could get the cheaper online price and the lady gave me a bunch of attitude, so I said I would order the book from amazon as it was cheaper anyways and I left. I love this Barnes and Noble. The size and layout of it is perfect and I can always find what I am looking for with little effort. The staff have always been friendly with me whenever I have to ask them something. The cafe is a good size and has decent food and coffee to enjoy while starting your new book. read more

Stopped into this location Sunday as the Lincolnshire location is closed. Store was dead, Starbucks had all the customers. I ask for a book which is on the best sellers list. The store doesn't have it, would I like to order it. Sure I give the clerk my info and ask when it would arrive. She tells me by next Saturday. Monday am I get an email from B&N stating that they are unable to bring in a copy.No reason offered. Looked into Amazon, 5 minutes total, ordered book, free shipping, book discounted 20%. Goodbye Barnes and Noble, this location will be gone too. read more

Haha, I am glad to read that the customer service experience here is poor, becuase that is exactly what I experienced. When I walked into the store, I was starred at by a clerk. Then when I was leaving, it was closer to closing time, a store clerk at saw me walking out and he did not even say goodnight or anything, and he looked like he was in a crappy mood. Not that saying good night was essential, but that's just kinda the right protocol as a store clerk. Only 1 floor at this B&N, the only pkus to this store is a clean bathroom. Very sad that this location has such poor customer service, that completely defeats the point of a barnes and noble. read more

For the people yelling and screaming - I mean the parking lot soap opera along makes this place a well known place of rest and retreat. Seriously though? It's a B&N just like anywhere else . . . this one just seems to have a lot of people hanging in the cafe, reading, writing, or just soaking up the ambiance and enjoying the company of fellow scholars. Overstuffed chairs and a few tables scattered through out the store make it feel more like your living room than a retail store, and if you're like me, you're bound to shush someone. Just remember - it is a retail store. No one HAS to be quiet! An outdoor cafe when weather permits makes it one of my favorite bookstores in the area. (oh - and if you're not a fan of Starbucks), there's a Caribou and Panera within walking distance. This is Deer Park after all read more

Why B&N is going out of business. Walk in to look for a popular business book. No kiosks or computers anywhere to locate the book. Find the section but don't see the book. Find customer service area where there is a computer sitting there. Search for the book - not in the store. One of the top business books of 2017 not in stock. Parting comment from bitchy customer service lady that the computers are for employee use only. read more

I had the worst experience in this location today. I Walked into a relatively empty Barnes and noble in search or a lily pultzer day timer. I walked the store myself looking for the planner or a sales associate to help me. After walking around for a few minutes I waited at the customer service desk with no such luck. I waited at the customer service desk for 5 minutes however did not find a sales associate to help me. I finally noticed a male sales associate assisting 2 women by the nook items. I waited patiently for him to finish helping them before I said " excuse me can you please help me find the lily pultzer". He told me I would have to go and wait for customers service desk and he began to walk away from me. I then explained that I had just waited there for 5 minutes and no one was there. He looked up and said yes there is someone there... I explained to him that the person he saw was a customer reading near the desk and not an employee. He continued to walk away from me telling me that he couldn't help me because the desk called him up to ring first. ( there were 3 people waiting in line ). I walked back to the customer service desk and guess what. No associate there to help! I waited a few more minutes before I returned to the front to let him know that there is NO ONE back there. To which he argued again that there was. He then proceeded to tell me he didn't know what I wanted him to do they wanted him to ring before I asked him for help. ( again there was only 3 ppl in line ). All I wanted was for someone to point me in the right direction or call someone to assist me. This employee was so rude and unhelpful. Wonderful store. The staff is extremely personable and helpful. I went there to get a book for school and ended up talking to an unbelievably kind man who worked there. In addition to that they have unique books that I could not find at other stores such as "The Little Prince" in French. I too agree on customer service being lousy. I was in kids department and needed to find a book. I looked over and saw a heavy set brunette. She is a regular there, young and did story time for kids. As I asked her for help to find a book she opened up her mouth and said I am busy and made a rude remark towards me as if I was bothering her. I immediately reported this to the manager while I was in the store and could not believe how lazy this woman was. Its her job. Now I come in and she does not even say hi.
