Service is terrible. Not a real Starbucks, cup broke coffee went everywhere, cleaned the whole floor and the lady was nasty. Stay clear.

We frequently visit this Barnes & Noble store, which is conveniently located near our home. In addition to its extensive book collection, the store also features a Starbucks, ample seating, a section dedicated to toys, puzzles, and gift items. It is always kept clean, bright, and tidy. We primarily browse their toddler and children's book sections for our daughter. I've discovered many relevant books that cater to both leisure and educational purposes, all at reasonable prices. I missed going to a B&N for years, and was so glad to step into this one that looked like it underwent renovation. It's huge and clean!! Not sure why such low rating?! There is a cafe and seatings throughout. It's conveniently located inside the mall. It's really nice to see so many people inside as people still treasure holding a physical book. There were so many sections from Japanese comic books to business to mystery/thrillers to self-help to magazines. Would definitely love to come back and check out more on the selection. read more

I think this is a really nice Barnes and Noble. It is very spacious. It has enough seating areas for you to sit down and read, even has a cafe where you can dine in and read your book or whatever you come to do at a Bookstore. The cafe didn't accept anything Starbucks related, even though they were supposed to be Starbucks affiliated and they were even promoting the pumpkin spice latte. I don't know if it's because the place has a relaxing vibe or what, but the staff was very slow. They moved like turtles. We asked for two cookies warmed up and a Strawberry Frappe. That alone took like 20 mins and there were three of them and just us and one guy ordering behind us. It was odd. I would say if you're not in a rush skip the Cafe. If you just want to grab a book or some nick nack. Then you'll be fine here. read more

Welcome to the future, Barnes and Noble customers. Visiting the Riverside location in its new home (around the corner from Houston's and Oceanaire) it's easy to see that the 21st century is here and Barnes and Noble is doing its best to keep up. This new spot is light, bright and modern, a firm attempt to embrace the new. It takes some getting used to, especially after the carpeted, cozy, old wood library feel of the original Riverside Barnes and Noble, but this definitely has a feel of the future. It's white, bright and modern. The cafe is clean and blindingly white. While it's not the comfortable feeling of the original, there are definite benefits to the new layout and structure. This new incarnation has only one floor. Farewell to the escalator and balcony views of the original, as well as the CD and movie sections, but alas, this is the way of progress. read more

Since the mall opened back up, this B&N hasn't really updated its books or selection. The new-look in the smaller space isn't great either - the layout is hard to follow. Finally, this place reopened after the renovation. And I love this place. Great selection of books and stationaries and everything else. The café is nice except the police are a little mean. Maybe it's because early morning. Tables are there but not many and usually it gets filled up pretty quickly. By noon or so, tables are already filled with people. This incident happened over a year ago, but it is still bothering me, so I decided to write this review. I bought a large tea in the cafe area, sat down at an empty table, and pulled out my phone to check my messages, when a woman, whom I took to be the manager (she did not identify herself), angrily asked me if I had been there a week before. I told her I had not. (I had not been there for several months.) She then demanded I leave immediately. I told her I would leave when I had finished my tea. She glared at me, then stalked away. I have no idea who this woman thought I was, but she had no business talking to me that way. Clearly she should not be in a management position. read more

Yes it's true what they say about this B&N... doesn't have the warm feels of the cozy bookstore we all know and love but can't expect much when you're in a mall setting. I'm more so taken back by the customer service of Lindsay K at the register or her lack of I should say. Not accommodating and just plain rude... she was either having a bad day or doesn't like working there but shouldn't take it out on the members who are literally just trying to get their read on. Two stars because the girl on the floor was sweet and helped me find what I was looking for. I suggest the Woodland Park location for an all around good experience where the people working there are genuine bookworms who like being there. read more

What's better than reading? Maybe when your kids read too...or when they can be free and use their mind and not their iPad... This is a great location with Starbucks built in amd quite a few restaurants to have a nice family lunch. Many hands on books and children activities. read more

As a former employee of the larger store, this new Barnes and Noble is very tiny and very bright. They definitely don't have the room to store enough books, let alone any other sort of merchandise. They're going to need some luck during the holidays. It'll be really hard to keep up with stocking since their back room is probably WAY smaller than the old one they had. Also did not see any employees on the floor during my last visit. The only ones I saw were at the registers/cafe. I'm really hoping it's a temporary store during construction, but I highly doubt it. This is just a very awkward and tiny B&N, with little seating (not that there was a lot in the older store either, but more than this). Better off going to the one on 17S. It's worth the 15~20 minute drive. read more

The new B&N store is very nice and I like that it is all on one floor. It's nice and bright, well thought out and designed. If you're not going to the rest of the mall, there is an exterior entrance from the parking lot, or, there is a mall entrance next to the new Cheesecake Factory. One downside is that the Starbucks in this store is not a "real" Starbucks and they only "proudly brew" Starbucks. We got a regular coffee with nothing in it and it took well over 5 minutes to get the beverage. The girls working there were not well organized. May as well go to the Ground Connection which is also right outside of the store. read more

This is my go to Barnes & Noble store as it's the closest to my job and apartment. Also, I love that it's open on Sunday even though every thing else is closed. The parking is miserable during the week and Saturday. But on Sundays, it's so nice and empty except for B&N and the restaurant goers. The actual store is laid out pretty well. Merchandise sometimes can be a bit messy but otherwise, not bad. Also, the staff has always been friendly when I've gone here (they're not always fast and sometimes want to chat, but at least they're friendly). You can also order online so you can just run in to pick up easily. The cafe area tends to be a bit messier with many of the tables filled with books or crumbs. But the staff is pretty friendly and they get your drinks to you pretty quickly. Also, this location gets some desserts from Cheesecake Factory! Yum! read more

First off, they've moved! They are still located in The Riverside Square Mall, but they built a new location. A location that I think is smaller, and much more sterile than their old location. Smaller location = less books! For his birthday, my nephew as for the complete set of Harry Potter books. I shopped around a little bit, and finally settled with B&N, they were on sale, on their website for $56.99. I checked their inventory and noticed that this location had two in store. Being that I work so close to Riverside, I decided to stop in after work. When I got there, I noticed that the price was different in store. They were actually $89. I took them up to the register, and asked if they priced matched. They asked me if I was a B&N member, I said no, and then they proceeded to tell me that, they don't price match for non members, only for members. I noticed on the website that there's an option to buy online and pick up in store. So I stepped to the side, order it online and chose the "pick up in store" option. While going through the process, it wouldn't let me use the coupon. The manager said "not a problem, once the sale goes through, I can credit you the difference". So I said fine. I finished the purchase and waited. So to recap, I walked into B&N, walked to the children's section, found what I was looking for, asked to have it priced matched TO THEIR OWN WEBSITE, NOT A COMPETITOR, was told no because I am not a member, had to step aside, order it online, and pick it up in store, where I myself went and obtained the item, not even a worker. So after waiting about 10 minutes for their system to update, the manager took me over and tried to credit my account for the coupon that I tried to use but couldn't online. He told me it wasn't working and that he had to return the item and have me repurchase it. I explained that I didn't want to do that because I refused to pay the higher price. He said "no, you don't have to, I can make a price adjustment!" ARE YOU KIDDING ME???????? If you ask me this whole situation was butt backwards, I was so livid that I literally wasted a half hour of my time, that I said forget it, and left. Looks like Amazon and Target will be getting all my future book sales. read more

I was a fan of the old Barnes and Noble with two floors, areas to sit and spread out. This store is basically grab and go in it's feel. The only place to sit is near the Starbucks Cafe. I really liked the Barnes and Noble that was at this location until they moved and opened up the new and "modern" Barnes And Noble which I really don't like. Everything about it is a disappointment. 1) It's too small. 2) They cut way back on the amount of books and magazines that they carry so there is a much less of a selection. They're basically forcing me to buy from Amazon or somewhere else. 3) The lighting is super bright with way too much blue light. It might be okay for during the day, but anyone exposed to too much of that at night (like the employees) will develop sleeping problems, health problems, etc. I feel like I need to wear a pair of blue blocker glasses if I ever return. 4) The design is modern and cold. Bookstores should feel warm and comfy. No one wants to curl up with a good book somewhere modern and cold. 5) I probably spent around 10 minutes walking through the store and checking it out and I had three different employees ask me if I needed help, some even multiple times. There is no reason why employees in a book store should be so aggressive towards customers. I'm not buying a used car or piece of large furniture. Those salespeople are annoying. Don't make your booksellers annoying like them. Let me browse around and discover new books. If I need your help I know where to find you. 6) I love spending time in bookstores. They are one of my favorite types of stores to visit. I could not wait to get out of this store. 7) It makes me sad to think that all Barnes and Nobles might be like this in the future. 8) If all Barnes and Nobles become like this, the chain will soon be going out of business because they don't understand their core customers, or where their bookselling brand's niche fits into the retail landscape. I come here often, especially on rainy days because I love browsing the different business and marketing sections on the bottom, and getting some work done at the starbucks there. The staff is really friendly and I normally end up buying something or other. The parking is just plain horrible though and that's the main reason this bookstore does not get 5 stars. The spaces in the back are rather small for even a compact car and you can't get out of your car without hitting the car next to you. read more

I called to see if they have a book in stock today May 28, 2013. She put me on hold while she goes to check if it's actually in stock.... Waiting.... Another woman picks up the phone in the meantime and I tell her I'm waiting to see if they have a book in stock and she puts me back on hold. 15 minutes later and utterly annoyed... *click* Both women never bothered to get back to me and the phone eventually got cut off. Called again, a soft spoken gentleman answers and finds the book in 2 minutes! Apparently they only have one competent employee on the floor. I was very confused with how to rate this Barnes and noble. Merely based on the fact that it was a mall bookstore. So all my complaints about this location was because it was attached to a mall. Lol - too packed - not enough seating - too loud - so many kids running around... It has a Starbucks attached, and a small seating area around the Starbucks which was nice. But I ordered my usual venti ice green tea and it was SO watered down. That was disappointing. Has a bathroom upstairs and awkward seats lined up against the wall outside the bathroom. One good thing was that there were a lot of search stations with associates. At least 3 just upstairs. I think that's a lot for a B&N in a mall. Heck, I don't think I ever saw that many in a stand alone store! Is the closest B&N from my house so I'll be back strictly cause of convenience. read more

I like taking my one year old to their kids section but the one in Hackensack doesn't have a big selection on children's books and toys. They also don't have enough seats and what I loved about the other locations they have cushions in the children's section for the kids to seat on while their parents read to them. read more

Called in to set a book I side I needed for my nursing exam. The girl on the phone kindly put the book aside, took down my information and told me I had 3 days to pick up the book. I went in to pick it up a couple hours later, when I went to pay and explained to they girl that online the book was cheaper than it was in store she just told me they have different sales online then they do in store. Not only that, the book was used ! What a rip off, trying to sell a used book for the price of a new one. So disappointed; the girl didn't even bother doing anything to help me. read more

I stayed for a study session at the old location once; This location may be a fewer tables but loving the open concept and modern look. And outlets!! Suggestions for people who stays for hours like me :) bring a portable extension to share with other people since there's usually just one every table. Clean bathrooms too. read more

Ah yes a Large Barnes & Nobel to lounge in and look over books, study and relax in. Great location but I will say the baked goods are pretty terrible. Maybe that is just common knowledge but I ordered some piece of cake that dry and looked old. I was at the grand opening of the new Barnes & Nobles on Riverside Mall in Hackensack NJ. The place looks amazing. Looks very modern. The best part of it all is the Starbucks Cafe. Barnes and Nobles are always a great place to hang out, study, read/buy books, etc. This particular one has staff at the starbucks that are rude and obnoxious. Bought about 10 bucks worth of coffee and food, asked also for a glass of ice water and the guy had actually rolled his eyes at me as he got it for me. Stopped by to find some trailmaps and books on rock climbing. Took a while to find and the selection was poor. We ended up pursuing the books by the coffee shop and wanted to do some quick research. However, there were (a) no power outlets and (b) not free unlocked wireless. WTF? I thought Barnes & Noble were supposed to be like the library replacement. Ohh well, suppose I will just continue to use Google and Amazon, lol. At least at home I have both power, wireless, and much better coffee! read more

Okay, first of all parking is horrible, and maybe the Starbucks sucks as well. But this is a review of the bookstore, and this is worth praise. A sure sign of a good bookstore is if you have to step over children who are sitting in the aisle reading.
