You can never really go wrong at Barnes. Between the books alone and the games, vinyls and toys - they've quite the selection.

Fairly well stocked but prices are much higher than what can be found online or through audible subscriptions. The bathrooms at this location are not maintained and the Starbucks in the store was not well stocked the day I came in. The building itself is also in need of an upgrade. read more

I don't think a visit here on a Saturday in December is typical. Everything is excessive: the inventory, the number of customers, and the staff working. They seemed to handle it well. Some of the inventory was evidently moved around on account of the holiday inventory, as some things weren't under their associated signs. I came to this store specifically because the Poughkeepsie B&N did not carry a specific item I wanted, and they told me this store had it. I couldn't find it, but the folks at the customer service desk knew right where it was. Every register was going, and the checkout line, while long, went reasonably quickly. One thing I don't like is when a B&N looks, on the outside, like it's 2 stories when it really isn't. read more

This store is new, only a few years old. I remember when there was very little to no development on this corner (RT 300 & 17K). Wife & I frequent this location mostly for the Starbucks located inside. We often browse the children books for our kids which they have setup pretty nicely with the typical kids theme. We rarely if ever go into the music/video section they have since we have ipods and just use itunes. The store is fairly large and although I don't read in the store I do think they should have a few more couches around the store for those that do like to sit and read a chapter before buying a book. If you go to browse the entire store I'd grab a coffee at the internal Starbucks because you could spend a good chunk of time looking around. read more

This is my favorite Barnes and Noble bookstore I have been to yet. The service is terrific as there is always someone floating around asking you if you need help with anything. The Starbucks cafe inside the bookstore has great service as well. The books are always in order and neat, someone is always walking around organizing the shelves. They have a great selection and the stock is always plentiful. The parking lot needs a little attention, if I didn't have a big monster truck I would probably have a flat tire upon every visit. I always stop in at this book store when visiting family in the Monroe area. Great selection, very helpful and friendly employes, and the cafe is nice. It's smaller then then other B&Ns I've visited, which gives it a nice feel. read more

Parking can be a hassle but the store is great

What can you really say? It's a Barnes &Nobel. I do love to shop for books and to hold them and even spend time just picking up a magazine. They have a very large magazine section which is great for trying out a new one before subscribing. The coffee bar sells typical Starbucks brand coffee and food. One of the things that I have seen change in a negative way with B&N is that they eliminated the vast majority of the seating in the store. I remember getting a stack of books and a coffee and spend an afternoon just chilling. No more and getting a seat in the cafe can be a challenge. That still doesn't stop me from enjoying walking up and down the isles of books and sitting on the floor when there are no more chairs. read more

The interview process here is such a disaster. I've been applying for the past four years, and finally got one call back. Later in this I will post questions they use at this location they used on the interview to help others. It's all open questions anyone can answer which is nonsense. I showed up fifteen minutes early, and somehow both managers showed up to the interview ten minutes late. (The cafe wasn't even busy, not was the other manager.) First off there isn't any place to meet, and sit down for an interview. I showed up to the help desk only to be constantly redirected to the cafe THREE times. Not only do I don't know who the manager is, she doesn't know who I am. Making it more confusing, and harder to find the person you're interviewing. You're just stuck standing there awkwardly. Which is hard for me to feel since I'm pretty comfortable in situations such as this. The interview was nowhere near professional even for the cafe. Jessica barely said anything as the other manager went through the motions. Bluntly interrupting how I have no food experience but over the phone said everyone has to learn. Didn't even discuss pay scale and I have almost five years of retail under my belt. Here's something gross too: The literal break room is next to the bathrooms. It's literally a pathetic, dingy, room. If you even want to call it a room. IT'S ALL SALES BASED in EVERY department. Meaning if you don't make quota, they cut your hours. So I'm a typically a big fan of B&N, just not so much for this location. Unfortunately it's the only one in Orange County. Stopped in here the other day to pick up some last minute gifts for the holidays. Trying to pickup a case \ cover for a nook that I had purchased for my DW, I was told that they have absolutely no accessories for the nook and they might get some in mid-January. I somewhat understand the device itself being in high demand, but what's so difficult about stocking accessories? Oh well, no nook case. Next item on the list a Panini cookbook, not trying to be picky I tell the girl I'd be willing to take any book with Panini in the title. I'd already searched the cookbook aisle with no luck. Other staffer tells me that the books are usually where you least suspect them. I ask her if maybe I should look in the Travel section?? Anyhow they dig up some Italian recipe book that contains all of 3 Panini recipes. Feeling desperate I go ahead an purchase this book. Last item on my list, gift card for pops, pretty impossible to screw this up. +1 star. All in all not the best trip. The cafe is pretty good but can't say much for the rest of the store. read more

The inmates run the prison at this B&N location.. All Barnes and Nobles sell exclusive hard to find collectible figures. In three years of shopping there as a regular customer I've never seen one at this location. I thought this was odd as I see them all the time at other B&N locations. So I asked an employee why I never see them there and she said "Don't bother trying to find them here because our inventory manager keeps them all for himself to resell online". I appreciated her honesty but I was pissed that the other managers of that location turn a blind eye to this. All we can hope for is that one day they get rid of him but until that day comes I would not recommend this location at all read more

Very nice sized store with a great selection of their typical stock. It can use a few more places to sit, sofas, etc, but there is a Starbucks inside which is nice. There is very helpful staff and always plenty of parking as well. read more

Love it here. Could spend hours. Obviously if you're a book lover, and love keeping your books you'll agree. Only reason there's no fifth star is non-fiction. History, religion, sports, and biography all have good sections, but social sciences is one shelf, and anything that doesn't fall into those categories have to be searched for or you need to get help from someone. read more

My wife and I like to go here to read their books, drink coffee, and have a pastry or two (our cheat day). We might even purchase some books if the price is right. Overall we like the ambience and the idea to get away from the everyday hustle & bustle without having to go very far. :-) read more

This is your typical single story Barnes & Noble. Staff is friendly and most of them knowledgable unless you happen to run in during the holiday season and like most other retailers there is an abundance of clueless seasonal help. Store is clean and neat looking and if I need a title that is not in, they can usually order it or at least point me in the right direction. As long as you have an author or book title or can remember the article you saw the book in, they can for the most part figure out what you're looking for. read more

I have always loved Barnes and Noble and was so excited to finally have one in Newburgh, the selection is good, not great. I would have given in more stars but the staff are mean. Over the years, I have noticed there has been a turnover. There was a bald man who would make me cry. I only interacted with him at the cash register. I thought maybe it was me, but my friend had the small problem. Fortunately, I haven't seen him working in the store. Don't worry the staff is still mean, I've dealt with three unfriendly people just recently. read more
