Today I got a book called "A mother's life" for $10 but it is priceless with all the memories you can put in it for your children. Quaint coffee shop where I love to journal with a chilled ice tea. I bought my beautiful journal book here and it was definitely tough to pick from all the gorgeous designs they have. I know you'll find a lovely journal here too as well as other cool bookmarks. Their merch section is def fun to browse, or get a well loved gift for a special person. I love books. I enjoy looking at a rack of books and seeing what catches my eye. I love opening the dust jacket and reading the summary. Those things have mostly faded away in the world of Nooks and online book retailers. However, I am happy that local bookstores and in this case national bookstores still exist. I still stop in when I am at Tempe Marketplace and see if there is a new book I must read or even a magazine on the racks to read on an upcoming flight. read more

I still read actual books, so this, is my come to spot!!! I hope that this store never goes away because some of us actually get tired of looking at computers and nooks and would rather turn the page manually. They have a Starbucks located inside but turns out, they don't use the app since this Starbs location is owned by Barnes. Sucks because my purchases didn't matter for points which, I'm happy to save for winter months. I liked that they have a Black History table dedicated to Black Authors in celebration of our Cultural. Don't get me wrong, I love all cultures and think that each discriminated cultural group, should have a table honestly. Just my feedback! All races matter and all races read . Came in here to do a little Christmas shopping and the place was nice and clean and organized. I loved being able to go to the section I needed and find something. Also found lots of other goodies I didn't know I needed. Before leaving I sat in the back and enjoyed a coffee too. Nice way to spend a couple hours. read more

Whoever says bookstores are dead has not visited this Barnes & Noble location. On a Sunday afternoon, the store was busy. Line moved surprisingly quickly. There were eight purchases ahead of us. I was to the head of the line, and done with my transaction in a matter of minutes. One of the ways the store has remained relevant is by expanding it's array of goods. The store is still mostly books. There are generally more items than there once was that one may give as a gift other than books. All kinds of literature and pop culture inspired impulse items around the line. (Much like a Ross or TJ Maxx does.) Near the children's section several aisles of toys. Children's section is not the most organized. Yes that is in part to little hands putting books back wherever. This is especially true for the easy reader area. Books were very jumbled. Store is under construction, so they don't have their full selection. That being said, there is still a decent selection. In may cases, books can be ordered, if not in stock. Starbucks is located inside. Seating in the Starbucks area to enjoy one's food and drink. read more

Decided to spend some time at the Tempe Marketplace and wandered in here. I wasn't looking for anything particular, just browsing. Masking is required at this location as stated clearly on the door. There is a sanitizing station right inside the entrance as well. This location is spacious and the different sections are well labeled. There are chairs for reading if you'd like. I ended up finding a new Bible and a journal. The staff was friendly and helpful. Barnes and Noble is a great place to find what you're looking for. read more

On those occasions when I want to wind down between work and going home, I find myself here. I am able to browse the shelves for my next great read or see what new music is being offered. Today I hung out in the cafe area with a friend and his kids. The fact that his kids enjoyed being here and, for a moment, forgot their phones speaks volumes. read more

The Barnes and nobles by itself is a good place to go to. But the Starbucks is a different story, me and my sister went in to order a coffee. A male worker with blond hair and white was being very passive aggressive with us on the start. Not wanting problems and just trying to order, he kept trying to finish us early even if I was in the middle of ordering. Also never greeted us, also had a huge scowl on his face. he threw our pastry onto the counter. And I noticed they forgot something, so I went back to just ask for it. He threw the blender container onto the counter - almost toppling over- and making me pour it myself. I however- noticed he was being passive aggressive at that point. Let him do his job, but after that experience I felt me and my sister felt the micro aggression from him. The other employees are usually fine but this one we felt was being rude and aggressive towards us for just being women as he did not do the same towards the men who were also ordering. Bookstores are hard to come by these days, and this Barnes and Noble is one of the last remaining survivors after the fall of B. Dalton, Waldenbooks and Borders. While I love the compact nature and space saving capability of my Kindle, there's something to be said about turning a physical page, the gentle sound of rustling paper and the comforting scent of bound, aged words on print. The selection is extensive here, in non fiction, fiction and children's books. There's also pop culture merchandise, games, and toys. There's also a clearance section with various discounted or discontinued items for sale. I browsed through the food section and found a number of great cookbooks from Ottolenghi and the Alinea book whose page edges are literally gilded in gold, as well as a hefty Big Green Egg cookbook and Nom Nom Paleo recipes. The pop culture area and games section was also cool to browse through. This location also has a coffee area but I haven't tried any of their beverages. It's definitely an interesting place to browse. read more

I stopped in this store because I was looking for a specific book. I found it and a whole lot more. They have a pretty complete music section with top charting songs and artists. There is a good selection of discounted music from yesteryear. There are thousands of books on hundreds of topics. The store is well organized so finding what you are looking for is easy. It's a good thing too. I was in the store 30 minutes without any contact from a store representative. This is the reason for the 3 star rating. read more

If you enjoy being followed around the store by snotty, rude staff and security in a very obvious and non-discreet manner to the point that you are actually embarrassed because it's not only clear to you that its happening, but to literally everyone around you as well, then this is the place for you! Don't get me wrong, I am all for loss prevention and catching theives, however, what I am NOT okay with is being a long time loyal, paying customer just wanting to take my time and browse the massive selection of books while I wait for my husband to get off work, and end up being blatantly stalked by your staff in such an obvious manner that it made me sick to my stomach. If your staff is "suspicious" of me because I have a backpack (which had my laptop in it because my plan was to get some school work done in your Starbucks cafe until i decided to leave due to being treated so poorly), then by all means, keep an eye on me. I understand that you guys have to do your job and protect the business. I work in management, so I totally get it. But don't do it in such a way that you make your customers feel uncomfortable and mortified!!! Be discreet!! If you can't be discreet, then you are in the wrong profession. In these days of online books on Amazon where else are you going to be able to walk into a store and browse the selection of paper books? I mean really where are all the bookstores going? Of course the wonderful thing about Barnes and Noble is they able to stay in the business and cater to people who actually want the experience of walking into a bookstore and buying a book and having someone help you or make suggestions like it used to be. Not everyone wants to read their book on a tablet or a phone. There are many people out here who just want to go into a store browse books that are made of paper and have that experience and by the way that experience in my opinion is far preferable to reading a book on my Apple Watch. And Barnes and Noble is the best bookstore by far for people who just want to have that experience. read more

If I can rate this location zero, I would! Thanksgiving week, my family and I went to have some happy time and look for books and buy a toy for my child. My daughter ran and cut off two employees as she was so excited. I was shocked as these employees looked back and rolled their eyes and said "YOU WATCH YOUR CHILD!". I said from afar" sorry" and that she is special needs "autistic". She was mad and not accepting and one employee gave a face. My husband couldn't let this pass so he approached these two, explained to them that we don't let our child play as if it's a playground and that kids with disability have their moment especially when they want something they are obsessed. Employees , NOT even understanding the situation. My husband looked for the manager, and she was the manager. How could this store have a manager as ignorant and discriminate people with disability. This is not even half the battle that families with disabled members go through. It is unfortunate that this store is ran with an ignorant manager. MANAGER Martha Stevens! I guess when you are the manager, you can treat everyone like crap! Since you are the head of the store and your title got into your head! Two other employees next to her were kiss a*s. This is why families with special needs child seclude their child at home because there are people that are less accepting. Ignorant and and no proper training. Some customers by the cashiers saw this unfold and couldn't even believe. A very bad experience and a traumatizing one. This review is of the Barnes & Noble Cafe at Tempe Marketplace. These folks cannot make a cup of decaf if their lives depended on it. I mean this in terms of both execution and quality. After placing my order, I waited for ten minutes to receive my cup. Unacceptably long time. People who had ordered their drinks after me were getting theirs, and I stood next to the bar, looking lost (and unamused). "Sir, what were you waiting for?" asked the barista who -- I should add -- was the one who took my order. "The decaf coffee," I replied. "Oh, okay it's going to be a few more minutes. We're doing a pour-over." Indeed, they were doing a pour-over. Here is how they did it: (1) prepare the cup under the filter, (2) pour grounds into the filter, (3) pour some lukewarm water onto the grounds, (4) forget about coffee for several minutes, (5) return to the coffee, realize mistakes were made, dump more lukewarm water into impending disaster, (6) present to disgruntled customer. There were many things I wanted to say to this cafe staff, but I refrained, solely due to how flustered the poor barista looked. Make no mistake, I found her woefully ineffective, but I also did not want to make her feel worse than she appeared. I thanked her for my drink and left. My stars, how shitty this coffee was! Really, I should have expected it, but man, I can't remember the last time I had coffee this sickeningly bad. Near-cold, bitter, acidic aftertaste -- it was a cup of diluted sewage. What's the moral of the story? Don't drink decaf, of course. Except no, no -- just don't order coffee here. Seriously, for your sake. Go anywhere else. This Barnes & Noble Cafe has well descended into the depths of the underworld, where the service is shit and the coffee is shittier. I am officially done with this Barnes & Noble. I have been frequenting this location FOR YEARS but as of today, I will never return. I was, yet again, followed around the store by staff. they are not even discreet about it.. and then I watched in horror as security approached a woman and said ma'am "they" want you to leave the store immediately. the lady was confused and clearly mortified and responded "well can I at least ask why?" I couldn't hear his response but I heard her say "yes I used the restroom and now I am getting in line to purchase my items" but security wouldn't let her purchase anything and just kept insisting that she get out. I am disgusted with this store treating everyone like thieving criminals. You are losing good loyal paying customers over this crap so shame on you. You just lost a long time loyal customer. Maybe you should have treated your customers with some dignity and respect. read more

Happiness - 5/5 I'm always a fan of Barnes and Noble. A great selection of books, media, games, and toys. Plus, a Starbucks with real lunch food (like sandwiches and soups). This one in particular has a large kids section with a little play area that my little ones can play in while I browse nearby. It also conveniently connects to the rest of the mall, making it a convenient place to start your mall day at. Grab a coffee, grab a book, and take a nice stroll outside. read more

Two reviews in one for me: 1st review: I was here to get a book for a class and there was only one left in the entire store. It was brought in around July, so it was very difficult to find. The ladies working here were so helpful and did not stop looking for the book even though it seemed like we had looked everywhere at a certain point. I appreciated there dedication for the sake of my school project!! 2nd: I study at the Starbucks sometimes and I love it here!! My only recommendation would be to get bigger tables for any big groups wanting to study or for people like me who like to spread out between books, computer and taking notes! read more

So I typically go to the one in the west valley. But this time I was on this side of town and stopped since they have their 50% off hardcovers. It was really busy and I acknowledge it but when I went to ask for two books the girls just pointed in what area to look. I asked two different girls and told them I couldn't find them and just told me to check again. I was hoping they would physically go and help but didn't. Barnes & Noble is my go to store for all my reading material & cool gifts. This is a big store with lots to choose from. They sell books, audio books, calendars, toys, journals, pens/pencils/accessories, magazines, dvd's, cd's etc.; This store always has priced at "Bargain" deals!! Barnes & Noble offers a membership that a customer can purchase for $25/yr & you receive 10% off every purchase. Thats not a bad deal if you go often. Also, each barnes & noble has a Starbucks inside which is nice incase you become parched. I highly recommend this location because they are all so friendly & Ive never had an issue here! read more

While in AZ I needed to pick up a book for a project I'm working on this was the closest B&N to me and so I made the short drive. As all other Barnes and Noble book stores this location has a Starbucks and great children's books section. The book I was looking for was out of stock as well as the book my daughter needed for her summer reading. No one was really that helpful nor was there more than one cashier for the long line of people ready to buy. I did pick up a copy of Milk and Honey from the poetry section ( excellent quick read) but that's not what I was initially there for. A 3 star A-Ok typical Barnes and Noble. Same. same. read more

This is a great Barnes & Noble - as seems to be pretty consistent with the locations in the Phoenix area, which is great! Clean and organized. Friendly staff. The surrounding area is a bit hard to park in and you may have to walk a little bit from parking spot to shops, but not really a big deal to us. They always have fun things in the up front discount section - perhaps a place to look for those upcoming Christmas gifts?!
