They have a nice curated selection of books, the staff are willing to help with finding a specific book, and they got a great gift and card selection. Every time I walk in here, I'm always tempted to get their gifts (soaps, lotions, small desk objects, kitchenware, stickers, hair claw clips, etc.). And I do! My friends have loved the gifts I buy from here. I also buy all my greeting cards from here, because they also have a nice sale basket of cards. How high end is it: so high end that you will find books here that you will not see at any other bookstore, not even at the Strand, St. Marks, the museum bookstores, or even the other Upper East Side bookstores. It's worth browsing here as they always have some really fascinating photography and art books. I love their photography selection the most and have been introduced to many photographers from browsing Ursus' selection. They ship from around the world to find some of the most interesting books. They used to be located in a larger beautiful space in Chelsea but moved to a smaller space due to realities of running an independent bookstore in New York. If you are interested in finding new photography and art, be prepared to spend lots of money here. The books are just beautiful to look at.

I gave them only 3 Stars because a building security guard told me no photos. I pointed out the sign that stated the building lobby, corridor, and shop were public spaces. Clearly this guy doesn't understand Churchill and the maining of freedom.

Most recently while purchasing (close to 100 dollars worth) of cards here, I said, "I was really bummed when Papyrus closed all of their physical stores," without realizing this Paper Source is in a previous Papyrus location. While the sentiment holds true--I do miss Papyrus--this is the best Paper Source location I have found--PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS THE GRAND CENTRAL LOCATION! I am a big card and letter writer. It's hard for me to find colorful and unique cards, even online. Within the last couple of months, other card/hallmark/paper source stores have fallen short. This store--while you may have to contend with crowding during the busiest hours--is worthwhile. I came in around 7 PM (after rush hour, while they close at 8 PM). I had to scoot around a few other patrons, but wasn't overly crowded, and had so much to choose from. This is NOT the same as online. I live in Kentucky and work in New York. I've googled. I've ordered online. Buying here, in person, is not the same. I was able to find a very unique insomnia card for a friend. A deceased pet card for my mother-in-law. And a card for a friend, joking about how we can never seem to get together because of adulting schedules, and a very funny card for a friend who, like me, doesn't care for mornings. I also found some very vibrant, sexy, moody note cards for every day notes and letters. This shoppe isn't ginormous, but it packs a punch. And the employees are very nice. Yes, the cards are expensive by regular "cookie cutter" card standards, but all of the really special cards are. This is an awesome spot. I'll stop by every single time I have a train coming through, and I'm sure I'll always be enthralled.

My mom and I wanted to get a croissant jellycat for my brother for his birthday, so I had been…read moretrekking all over Manhattan for that damn Jellycat. I discovered that they were sold at Papersource, so I went to a million paper sources in the city and landed on this one on the upper east side. This location is much smaller than some of the other locations, which means that there isn't as much merch as other ones, especially the cool papers. However, I was able to find a baguette jellycat and they had 3 of them so yay to that. There was a creepy guy walking around the store - I think he worked there, I don't know when retailers will learn we don't wanna be bothered while in store, we will come to you when we need help. Overall it is a good store for cute small gifts for someone or for yourself.

The bottom floor has a cute reading nook my children love to sit and read at. They also have an Ice cream counter. They get their ice cream from a creamery upstate. (I hope I remember that right) the workers are friendly and they have pretty good patience even when it's busy at the ice cream counter. I love the Italian rainbow cookie ice cream and the Oreo coffee one. And they ice cream floats are not soda from a can/bottle type. They have syrup and then they add the fizz. Def stop by and check this place out. It's lovely and don't be rude!
