When I arrived at the store to pick up my book I was shocked the lady told me "I underpaid" when I ordered. I said I paid what I was charged. She proceeded to tell me I underpaid by 1 cent. I'm digging in my bag looking for change of course I have none & she's like well you can use your card. I had no change & was by myself so I paid with my card. When I left I told myself I would never make another purchase there. The employee undercharged me, I didn't put the price in when I ordered. During a time when the country is not even making penny's to be insistent on one turned me off from this business.

I have always wanted to visit in person but never found myself that far uptown at the right time. Today I made it a point to stop in and walked all the way across the park to get here. This is a small store but is completely packed with the most beautifully curated selection I've ever seen. I left with a book and a tote bag. From now on I will make it a point to get here when I'm visiting NYC. In the meantime I'll think of it every time I reach for the tote bag! If you love food and books you will love it here too! I knew this book would be a perfect holiday gift for myself and so many friends and loved ones. I trekked up to the shop and somehow managed to carry 6 copies back to Brooklyn. I also picked up a couple other super unique books for more gifts. I could have spent all day but didn't have the time this trip. Lots of incredible food books and knowledgeable staff. I loved that all my copies were signed and still the same price - amazing value and even more special. I even got free reusable tote bags. Can't wait to return!

Grandma is now retired but she opened the store over 20 years ago. Everything they have in this small shop is thoughtful and great for kids. We ended up buying a kite for a kid's birthday. They have small kites and very large complex kites ranging from $15 to $50. They have a nice assortment of books with diverse protagonists. I almost picked up the Spanish version of Junot Diaz's Lola but I resisted. My two year old would probably need to get a little older before being able to appreciate that book. They also have board books and even an embroidered first Bible. Their puppets in the store are fun. Grandma is proud that she got the puppet maker to include legs so they could be used as puppets or dolls. We left with our kite wrapped and a hand made 3D birthday card. What a wonderful store. Now I can't wait for the next kid birthday so I can come back!

I walked in and I was first pleasantly surprised I saw so many black authors and new releases right off the bat. I say this as someone that reads all authors but it is important to see diversity of books in my bookstores. I visit bookstores often and make it my business in every city I visit. Now this bookstore is HUGE. Way bigger than expected. I thought the bottom level was the entire bookstore and boy was I wrong. Turns out there is a big first level and 2 more levels from there. I was in book heaven. Great selection of books, lot of of themes. They also had a section for blank journals/crafts and a coffee/drink bar. The staff were super friendly in helping me find the books I was looking for. Also the cashier was nice enough to give me a tote for being a visitor to NY which was nice of him. The owner Pumpkin greets you like you are part of her family. She is probably the most welcoming owner that I have ever met. As the space is small, the book selection is also pretty small (Black story focus both nonfiction and fiction). However, you can order books through Nefer's Bookshop.org link and still support them. Drink selection, especially the coffee is GREAT! And Pumpkin can make custom orders too. I hope this business continues to grow and thrive.
