I love actual books. This store is in a strip mall near Noodles & Co. The coffee shop is popular and crowded. It is challenging navigating people in the front of the store. The front entrance gets crowded. The staff should consider moving some of the items to another area of the store. I like lingering and looking at book bags, and other gift items. I feel very lucky to belong to a "Yelp Book Club!" We have been meeting for the past 6 years. We read a variety of books and have become good friends along the way. So, you will always find me in a Barnes and Noble searching for our monthly book club selection or a book that has been recommended during our book discussion. I also love Barnes and Noble for their children's section. I am always picking up books for my grandchildren. The people who work there are the nicest. They will take me directly to the book I am looking for. How nice is that? I am a Barnes and Noble book club member. I get a $5 dollar off coupon for each 10 books that I purchase. Good books, friendly staff, and decent snacks. I just wish they had more bathrooms. I kinda miss the old bigger book stores.

I visited this location of Barnes & Noble this past weekend when I was in the area. It's a smaller location, so it felt a bit tight and crowded. But it is well-stocked and the customer service was good. The store is light and bright, especially the cafe. And I was able to find something to take home for my to read pile quickly from B&N's epic walls of recommended books. Not a bad bookstore. I'm still a B&N fan. read more

This one is no where near as big as the one in the Rio but it's still nice and usually has the books I'm looking for. The staff is friendly and everything is easy to find. They have a cool book club that gets you dollars off as well so make sure you join. I love visiting book stores and finding new books. I never could get with audio books so this is my jam. read more

I popped into this location to grab a gift for a young family member, and had such a positive experience! The store is beautiful and easy to navigate. When I went into the children's section, I was greeted by an incredibly kind and knowledgeable employee who had genuine joy and enthusiasm when recommending fun books that kids were loving these days. Fun place to browse but I usually don't end up buying books here...I'm much more likely to be getting a coffee and blackout cupcake, or a specialty card and small gift. I've found some pretty boxes of cards and I like their selection of Moleskine notebooks and blank journals. I also buy my planners here... Service on the bookstore side is ok depending upon who you get, but it's pretty friendly on the cafe side! read more

Went in there today to go shopping. The rest rooms have combination locks and a security guard stationed nearby. The store was filled with shoppers and the guard told me that I would need to go to the checkout counter to get the code. I left the store without buying the gifts I had come in for and will not be returning. Locking customers out of your restrooms is stupid and offensive. read more

I love this Barnes and nobles location! They always have the books that I am looking for in stock. I went to another Barnes and nobles this week but had barely and of the books I was looking for so I knew I needed to go a little out of my way to visit this location. Even though it is smaller they still do a good job utilizing the space they have. Love that they are doing the blind date idea for books right now. If you don't know what you want to read right now you can choose a book based on its theme! The staff here are very nice, don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have! read more

This B&N is rather perfunctory. It doesn't have the charm of the two bigger stores that once existed in nearby Rockville and Bethesda. It does have books though. That's what a book store's main purpose is for. They also have half-priced planners after Christmas. That was my purpose for a visit. They are following the rules set my Montgomery County for COVID safety by limiting the number of people in the store. I got my planner; not the most perfect one, but it will do. Wow! A well-stocked and friendly-staffed bookstore in a world of digital and online and virtual everything. Sometimes - it is nice to actually touch a book - rather than just hear or read it online. Large store - with a cafe and children's area. Biggest challenge is parking - large lot, but crowded as it serves the entire plaza. read more

They moved the Barnes and Noble in Rockville to a smaller location and it reminds more of a Walden books, which would be a book store in the mall circa 1990s. Now that I've aged myself and also indirectly admitted to owning a pair of JNCO jeans, I'm now craving an Orange Julius. But I digress, we're talking about Barnes and Noble. It's definitely a lot smaller than it used to be in its prime and the selections seems to be limited. They have a really huge manga selection but it's hard to compete with the internet for inventory needs. In any case, it was a good place to wait while I was waiting for my food order at a nearby place... so atleast it was useful for that. read more

5/23/21 Upon entering this place Billy Elish greets me with her new biography out on the stands. I don't know much about her, but I have heard some of her music. Last I heard she dyed her hair all blond. Guess she is living the days of colored hair behind. This new Barns and Nobles has changed the look outright. I quickly noticed that each section of books is clearly labeled on the walls with icon of people reading books in different positions. The bookshelves are fully stocked and neatly organized. People are coming and going in here, but the six feet Social Distancing are still going on somewhat. Masks are still encouraged while in the store. While I was here, I wasn't asked if I need help, but if I needed help, I could find a staff member to assist me. While looking at books, I did come across some biographies of two wrestlers who are now in the WWE. I recognized Nikki and Brie Bella sisters, but not the other two wrestlers in their book. I did not buy the sisters book, but they were autographed by all four wrestlers. This adds more money cost to the book. I think this store will do well in it's new location. I wanted to use the bathroom, but both unisex bathrooms were in use. It would not be safe to go in there after them. I can wait. While in the Barns and Nobles Cafe that still brews Starbucks coffee, I came across Harney and Sons organic juices. I have finished an apple juice and I am now downing a Orange Mango drink. There is a 2 for $4 special going on that I missed the first time around. Lady Maria, who rang me up for the first drink has been replace by a guy who I think of as Mike, but his name is Billy H....Bill Hoiliday?, Billy Helmsley?, or Billy Holdsworth? Whatever his last name is, these drinks are good. I have begun to mix the drinks, but it will all end up in the same place. Being here at Barns and Nobles is a great way to spend a lazy afternoon. It is hard to not give this place five stars. There are so many options and so many different genres there is some thing for everyone there. I enjoyed browsing the children's section as I was in need of a couple of gifts. I found staff to be helpful, but did not breathing down your neck like other establishments do when you're wandering around. Overall prices were in line with other bookstores in the area, I did notice a couple of tables that had select books on sale. Check out was a breeze and I have zero complaints on my last visit. I think this location is smaller than its previous home in the Montrose shopping area, but it is nearby more options if you wanted to grab a meal or coffee after browsing the bookstore. read more

The Barnes & Noble bookstore that has been located in the Montrose Shopping Center for many years has moved to the Congressional Shopping Plaza (further north on Rockville Pike). The space is now one floor and seems a bit smaller by way of full footprint, and the vibe is different: not as cozy and warm, but now rather bright and well-lit. read more

Is it just me? I miss the old The location where they used to be 2 floors. It was huge. Now this place looks boring. I was finished in less than 10 minutes. One of the bathrooms was out of order. I opened the bathroom there were feces and poops all over the toilet. The staff is friendly, but that's about it. read more

A very delightfully organized Barnes and Noble. It feels very cozy and artistic in how the books are organized, in contrast to some Barnes and Nobles that feel more "grand" and expansive. It has a small cafe area as well that actually is quite large given the otherwise cozy nature of the store. It's park of Congressional Plaza, a large outdoor plaza with many stores, meaning that it has a lot of parking but also the lot can get quite filled up. Connected to a lot of major roads. It was a delight to peruse because of the comfortable way the books were organized, making it actually very walkable too. read more

I was a fan of their previous Montrose Shopping Center location. Lots of stock in a beautiful, huge 2-level space. It felt like your neighborhood library, but you could actually buy their books. This new 1-level location is a big downgrade. Square layout, uninspired design with overly bright LED lighting. It feels more like a pop-up than an actual bookstore. If you're a vinyl enthusiast, prepare to be sorely disappointed. Their staging area is one measly kiosk, compared to the rows upon rows of wax they had previously. At least I still have good memories of the old location. This one is as generic as they come. read more

This is the first time I've been in the store since it moved here. It is a smaller location and yes they do have less stock. It has a much nicer feel inside. To meet us actually feels more like a neighborhood bookstore. One thing I definitely have to comment on is a staff. I think they are absolutely amazing. All of them had masks and more than properly. Best part of all was the lady who works in the children's department. I went there to return a book that my sister-in-law bought for my son he already had. I showed her the book that I had and said I wanted to get something similar. She took me to similar books and showed me several different choices that he recommended. She Was very knowledgeable about the books. She did not just tell me what is popular she showed me sections of the books and told me why she liked them. It was very refreshing dealing with a knowledgeable bookseller. I normally buy books on Amazon. This kind of service made me decided to go to Barnes & Noble first. read more

I went to the store with my receipt to return a very recent purchase. I had planned to give our son a book, but learned that he had already read it (so would not be a good Christmas present). Because we used my husband's credit card instead of mine (both are the same account, but different nos.), they would not process a credit. It was insane. I had the receipt - the same last name, but they refused to do a credit to my card or account. I'm done with B&N - much easier to do business with Amazon. read more

The new B and N in Congressional Plaza is a beautiful store, in fact pristine! I have trouble standing for long periods of time and there were no chairs to browse the toddler section. Chairs in the cafe, yes, but that doesn't help browsers. I chose 5 and returned 2, 2 days later.I asked upon purchasing if I could return and they said yes. Didn't tell me they would only give store credit. I then purchased 2 gift cards. One was for 50 and the other 25. The employee rang those up and handed them to me. I said which is which? She said the only way to tell was scratch off the back. I was furious, to say the least, saying I am going to give a gift card that has the back scratched off? May be a beautiful store, but not user friendly! read more

The Barnes and Noble here is pleasant. But for must of us here from the area will remember that the Barnes in Noble at montrose was much more nice and felt so nice with its large spaces and plethora of novels to choose from. The starbucks next to it was also a perfect touch. This new on is nice and gives off a private homey feel. But I do miss the other Barnes. I dont think this one will have any seating in its book sections as its tiny compared to the other original one. read more

The new location of B&N has a different and pleasant feel. The two leveled store of the previous location was reminiscent of earlier larger and better stocked B&N stores of yore. You could take the elevator up to the second floor, and while in route there, get a panoramic view of the downstairs, and get excited about where you'd like to go next in the store. Yet this new one is very nicely appropriated and inviting and filled with shelving that offers you a look at the variety of books available. Things are easily found, and if you are not sure, ask the people who work there, as they are very helpful; always pleasant, always knowledgeable, and always with recommendations if you need them. The manager is awesome. too! Rarely saw him at the Crossings location, but I see him more often now, interacting with customers and helping out in some way. Each of the B&N team members seems relaxed and accessible. Starbucks IS there, across from the cashiers, and the selection of coffee and snacks is just about what they had at the previous store. Because of COVID, B&N and Starbucks chairs and encouraging spots to hang out with your Starbucks/B&N purchase(s) are no longer there...for now. Nevertheless, the store is a wonderful spot to visit and find good reads, and I'm grateful it is still around! Piper G. read more
