A bargain buy with multiple questions about my parents, childhood, fatherhood, and growing older.

I love it here, definitely my favorite Barnes and Nobles in town. I miss the days of bookstores and find all this internet buying really sad. I like to see what I'm buying, grab a coffee and read or browse. Sometimes I dont know what I want I just want to browse. The employees here are always very helpful and have some great recommendations. The store is clean and obviously well taken care off. Working here may be a minimum wage job but you can tell the employees take pride in where they work and take a sense of ownership. Even the bathroom for the men is cleaned up and not all run down. For a mens restroom that says something. If you are a pop collector like myself Barnes and Nobles offers a wide selections of pops as well as other collectibles. This is usually one of my first stops when I enter the store, or even if I just plan to go shopping for pops I stop here first. They have a pretty great collection of exclusives as well. If you are an avid reader I would suggest signing up for the membership. I have fought it off for awhile but through one purchase last week I already saved $10. That means $25 membership has already saved me almost half the cost. And it is a one time fee for the year.

Barnes and Noble is one of my favorite books stores and my usual go to, when I am looking for something specific. This time around I was looking for some cook books, one to demonstrate how to properly break down meat, making sushi, and to see if they had any cook books by Giada de Laurentiis. To my elation, this particular Barnes and Noble had wall to wall cook books (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/barnes-and-noble-book-sellers-santee?select=RVUmeigAhj_jEDawjKKHZg#RVUmeigAhj_jEDawjKKHZg). The first thing I noticed they had plenty of Giada's cook books, but I already own them so I passed (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/barnes-and-noble-book-sellers-santee?select=RVUmeigAhj_jEDawjKKHZg#1p51u1t9xkVQSxZXRvipIg). I was unable to located any how to prepare sushi books, but I did find a great meat book, on not only how to prepare a great piece of meat, but also on how to break it down and properly store for $22 (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/barnes-and-noble-book-sellers-santee?select=RVUmeigAhj_jEDawjKKHZg#vTcYJNmNgc8uIXM540q1qA). In addition, the book came with 425 recipes and great illustrations. The ladies at the register were quite nice and had a good sense of humor. The store was very well organized with having many titles, and having the Barnes and Noble Cafe in the book store, is a big plus!

    All of these are 'minez'.

My interaction was no different. The selection will be varied as with any used bookstore, but they have quite a lot on offer for the small space they occupy and I ended up leaving with four books, myself. Plus it is a lot more guilt free ending up disliking a book you got for a buck fifty than a book you paid upwards of $16 for. It can also be a great source for those who want an inexpensive book that they won't mind using for an art project like book page origami or blackout poetry, since they have tons of mass produced paperbacks. The location they're in is also ideal since right next door there are amazing cupcakes, plus a coffee shop within the same mall. And the Santee Library is right there if you're local and have a library card. Super easy area to kill an hour or two in.

We typically would visit…read morethat bigger one in North Park, but that place has become a hellhole for morons standing in aisles taking instagram shots. Hard pass. I managed to toss books like rocks at them as if I'm a bridge troll. However, after cussing out some 23 year old that cant even read, I've decided to move on to better bookstores. (Or I was told I'm not welcome back, same difference). Anyway, BOOK PLACE IS RAD. I am hooked, on the book. I don't really enjoy the Barnes & Noble because A) Expensive as hell, and B) AI cover art everywhere. So, Book Place. Cluttered how I like it. But in a good way. Like, you think you might find Iain Banks in the mystery section, but actually he might be in the Thriller section, or both! And you've discovered a new author on the way! I just love how it feels to have such a variety of books. Some spent time being loved by someone, and others, maybe were a gift that they trashed and it ended up here. Everyone who works here is cool, we can chat about books, and they'll tell you if they have something. Though personally I enjoy the thrill of the hunt for something I don't know if I'll find. I've always managed to find something. Plus, their prices are great. The buyback option is awesome. (Plus you have the opportunity to share what you loved... or didn't love and give someone else your hot garbage!) They've got a rental system too. So it's kinda like if Blockbuster came back, and had a baby with a book Place. They've got the oddities I crave. They have the weird science fiction with the holographic covers from the 90s and early 2000s (yeah those nerd ones). Star Wars novels, covered (and I don't mean the post-Disney garbage). I love this spot. It's not super close to home, but it gives me a reason to venture into this part of the county. Makes me very happy. Support this place and keep it alive because I need it in my life.

I was really impressed with how nice and patient he was with the customers, many of whom were older women who seem to be regulars at the store. My husband and I were each able to find a book here; Toni Morrison is one of my favorite authors ever so I was psyched to find one of her books! I even found a copy of The Idiot and El Fili! But I didn't get those because I'm not big on Dostoevsky anymore and El Fili is the sequel to the book I'm trying to find. Anyway, still cool to find those! They even had a free book shelf outside and I was able to get a smut novel for my husband and me to laugh over. Good times. The next time I go here, I'll try to open an account with them because I have a bunch of books I'd like to get credit for so I could get more books I'd actually like. Unfortunately it's a little hard for us to go here because their hours and days are limited, so we're only able to go here on Saturdays. Anyway, recommended!

Of course it's even more intense in Japan where it feels like you're in a labyrinth and may never make it out. I always feel like I need to inspect everything closely so I won't miss anything that could change my life lol When I first visited this Bookoff 3 years ago, they didn't have ANY Japanese music. Japanese music is the entire reason I go to Bookoff (and a lifelong passion for me) so this physically hurt me. Japan has the second largest music industry in the world, and this is a Japanese store! I couldn't believe it, I even asked the staff at the time (who were very friendly and helpful, and they still are!) and they confirmed that they had nothing. I know Kpop has basically always been more popular globally but come on y'all. They do play both Jpop and Kpop in the store BGM. Anyway, I'm very happy to report that they have a small section now. It really could be larger considering, but I guess this is what they get sold to them. I didn't recognize a lot of artists in the records (the CDs were too high up for me to browse easily) which just means it's an opportunity for discovery. There's no way to try the records so I'll have to come back with Google and some headphones. I walked out with ひばり美空 & おニャン子クラブ records, lol. I saw 2 イルカ records but didn't bite. Many reviews complain about the pricing. My records were $9 each which is fair but I did notice some were $30-40. About the pricing, all I can say is that they're a specialty brick & mortar store in Socal so they need to survive. And the items sold here cannot be obtained anywhere else easily except for the internet, where you can guarantee many of them would be more expensive. For people like me, I would never complain about the prices no matter what - Bookoff is invaluable. But I get it if a book costs more used than new, that doesn't make sense. Either way, please support Bookoff in whatever way makes sense to you, or it will disappear. Please help ensure the survival of Bookoff!

While the bookstore itself has a decent & varied selection of new books, and they'll order any book for you that they don't have, it is not the most pleasant place to shop. As a bibliophile and an English teacher, I really want to like and support Warwick's, but unfortunately, they've treated me poorly on multiple occasions which makes it challenging for me to give them more chances. There are many book sellers & employees, but they are not very helpful and they treat you like an inconvenience or worse. The right side of the store is book-centric while the left side of the store is mostly stationery & cards, writing utensils, gift items, and tchotchkes. Today, I purchased a book and a pen refill with a credit that I had at the store. I requested the pen refill from one counter, and I had to go to the book counter to pay for my book. Instead of giving me the refill so I could bring it over to the book counter and pay for both items with my credit, the employee brought the refill over herself and told a 2nd employee while pointing at me that, "that woman over there is also getting this pen refill along with her book." Then the 2nd employee handed the refill to a 3rd employee who stashed it behind the counter while I waited for my turn to pay. Keep in mind that the pen refill was a mere $6 item but they treated it like a precious gem that would surely compel me, if I held it in my own hands, to run out of the store with it without paying for it. Meanwhile, I'm holding the much pricier book that I'm going to purchase in my hands, but I rapidly felt like turning on my heels and vacating the store, and leaving the book behind, of course, because that moment was just so strange and uncomfortable. Over the past ten years, I have regularly patronized this store and I've purchased items here multiple times per year. However, there is no recognition, no friendliness, nothing to indicate that I'm more than just a tourist popping in on vacation. At the very least, a friendly greeting would do, but no such luck. Every time I cross the threshold, I feel a wall of snootiness that is just unpleasant and takes away from what could be a lovely shopping experience. As I'm sure you've figured out by now, items are definitely on the pricey side here. You can certainly find a better value and probably way friendlier service at other bookstores outside of LJ. I think Warwick's probably provides a different type of shopping experience for patrons depending on who the employees perceive them to be, even if they are way off the mark. C'est la vie. Just know that if you are a POC and you shop here, you may have an unpleasant experience, but I certainly hope that you don't! Peace.
