Japanese music selection. Could be larger but at least it exists.
    Lo S.

I remember visiting Bookoff in NYC for the first time 25+ years ago and it blew my mind. That feeling kind of never goes away in any Bookoff. Of course it's even more intense in Japan where it feels like you're in a labyrinth and may never make it out. I always feel like I need to inspect everything closely so I won't miss anything that could change my life lol When I first visited this Bookoff 3 years ago, they didn't have ANY Japanese music. Japanese music is the entire reason I go to Bookoff (and a lifelong passion for me) so this physically hurt me. Japan has the second largest music industry in the world, and this is a Japanese store! I couldn't believe it, I even asked the staff at the time (who were very friendly and helpful, and they still are!) and they confirmed that they had nothing. I know Kpop has basically always been more popular globally but come on y'all. They do play both Jpop and Kpop in the store BGM. Anyway, I'm very happy to report that they have a small section now. It really could be larger considering, but I guess this is what they get sold to them. I didn't recognize a lot of artists in the records (the CDs were too high up for me to browse easily) which just means it's an opportunity for discovery. There's no way to try the records so I'll have to come back with Google and some headphones. I walked out with ひばり美空 & おニャン子クラブ records, lol. I saw 2 イルカ records but didn't bite. Many reviews complain about the pricing. My records were $9 each which is fair but I did notice some were $30-40. About the pricing, all I can say is that they're a specialty brick & mortar store in Socal so they need to survive. And the items sold here cannot be obtained anywhere else easily except for the internet, where you can guarantee many of them would be more expensive. For people like me, I would never complain about the prices no matter what - Bookoff is invaluable. But I get it if a book costs more used than new, that doesn't make sense. Either way, please support Bookoff in whatever way makes sense to you, or it will disappear. Please help ensure the survival of Bookoff!

Came here today was cool for retro games ,funkos but they really could use some more game and movie action figures. The focus seems to be on those prepubescent anime figures with the giant juggs !

Used book priced 10 dollars more then the brand new price

CHECK THE PRICES. If there's one review you read, please let it be this one. The pricing here is plain criminal. I'm going to refer specifically to the books right now. They are pricing used, sometimes damaged books, for the SAME price as brand new from the publisher. The pricing here is outrageous and it's only getting worse. You can buy these books for brand new cheaper at Target, Walmart, or even Barnes and Noble, as well as online retailers. This is a used book store. These are NOT used book store prices. This store is taking it's customers for a ride, banking on them not checking the prices in the book. Please I implore you to check the prices before you buy. You should not be spending 30 dollars on a damaged book when you can get it brand new for 25.

**Review for the Snow Miku Promotional Event** Bookoff in San Diego is currently running a Snow Miku Promotional Event, encouraging attendees to post pictures of the limited edition merchandise for a free pin. I took a picture and posted on Instagram with the @snowmikusd tag and received a free miku pin! Highly recommend others to take advantage of this free event, especially if you're in the area!

If you love books, anime, vinyl records, DVDs, CDs, tapes, Japanese literature, this is a must stop. Great deals throughout the shop. A bit overwhelming by the sheer amazement you'll find here. Searching their book selections takes some time then you realize there's more in the drawers! Under the shelves of books there's drawers filled with more. Vinyl is in the front once you enter head right they're tucked in the corner. A fun place to search for some hidden treasures. Clear out your library and give some life back to your books. If sellable, they can give you a quote. Awesome service with all staff interactions. Helpful and super friendly to the hubs n myself. Parking right in front. Tap to pay.

Wow! Sooo much stuff here I could spend hours. If I did spend hours, however, I'd likely find way too many things I'd want to purchase. Which is good and bad LOL!! So many books at decent prices, and they had lots of mystery and thriller titles (my favorite genres). Around $5.50-7.50. They also have a great selection of 1-2 dollar books, unfortunately not the thrillers, but worth checking out. Good service too, workers to help you find things and answer questions. I came for books, but also briefly browsed through the DVDs.. they have like ever movie ever made on their shelves. Used book lovers, you've got to check this place out!

THIS PLACE ISN'T JUST FOR BOOKS!! (5 stars) Buy and Sell kind of place. Simplifying my life and found an unpacked box from SF from years ago in my garage storage. Opened it and it was a box of old books and dvds. I was planning to donate everything at the closest Salvation Army but something told me to try and sell it first. When I searched online this place came up first. I called and they told me to come on it. Location can be tough depending the time of day and day. It's in one of the Convoy Plazas and although there is a parking lot, we all know trying to secure any parking in Convoy is ridic. The minute you walk in, it's overwhelming with THINGS. Figurines, games, books, movies, etc. rows and rows of them. The staff are friendly and very quick to help get you In and out. I dropped off my box and they said 20 minutes. I stayed in the store and looked around. 20 minutes later I got a text and was told I get $27.93. I'll take any dollar over no dollar! Picked up my cash and I was on my way. BUT THE STORE... has so much to offer if you are into anime, video games, music records, and books. A lot of used stuff that are in very good shape. They even sell used vintage GameBoy games and I saw one for $119. Very cool to see. Worth a stop in to just browse. But yes to selling old books and dvds and whatever.

Ask the Community - Bookoff San Diego

Do they buy and sell video games?

    I believe they do .

What are the prices on books like?

It really ranges depending on what you're looking for. I've found good deals on most books but the more popular series sometimes get marked higher. Manga can get pricey too.…

I am looking to sell off some my engineering books (grad and undergrad) level. I was wondering what is usually the average price per book that I would get considering that the books are all in good condition with no rips or torn pages or mark up?

They will pay 10 cents to 1 dollar per book as of my visit today 12/23/23

Are you guys open during the quarantine?

I went there last week and it was open!

How much do they usually pay out for funko pops?

They only give you five bucks for every funko that isn't limited pieces or convention exclusive. If they are limited or convention exclusive then they will look up the price on their database. Their prices are almost 80% less than PPG price.

People who have sold books to BookOff, how much have you gotten for your books?

They will pay 10 cents to 1 dollar per book as of my visit today 12/23/23

    Do they have english manga?

Yes, both in english and japanese

Does anyone know if korean books are sold here?

    Only several thousand.

RELOCATED LOCATION (3.5 stats)…read more Did you know they relocated? For a second, I thought they closed. The store is smaller but it works. If you been to their old location, it's seems spread out and not as organized. With a smaller store, inventory looks overwhelming BUT everything is closer together and easier to browse, get help, and find that you are looking for. It's July aka ComicCon season. I tend to frequent here nearing ComicCon and I don't know why. I don't buy anything. I don't see anything new. But I do like to come here to window shop at their little nicknacks they post in the front area of the store. It's also my connection to ComicCon yearly. I love to give books or gift cards to bookstores to children. Bluestocking Books is the kind of bookstore I would specifically go out of my way to buy gifts for people, or to (gasp) buy a book for myself. There are little cozy nooks around the bookstore, as there should be in a bookstore. There's also a section for kids, with a little table and some reading material to peruse. Inexplicably, Bluestocking Books is closed on Wednesdays! What an interesting day to be closed, but I guess you have to be closed at least one day, right? Why not Wednesday? The people who work here are very friendly and helpful, and there's just a palpable welcoming vibe emanating from the store. It's a nice place to browse and find the perfect book.
