I grew up coming to this Barnes & Noble, and I'm genuinely so glad this specific location is still around. I used to come here with my grandma, so walking in still carries a lot of good memories for me. I wish I could have brought her more often before she passed, but in the later years of her life, reading became harder for her because of Alzheimer's. She still loved her knitting books and liked having books around, even if sometimes I think she was mostly pretending to read them. Honestly, that still feels very her. There is something comforting about a real bookstore. The smell of books, the displays, the quiet browsing, the accidental "I came in for one thing and now I live here" energy. The ability to ask an associate for their recommendations and their help in finding something you never expected you might fall in love with This location has always had that classic Barnes & Noble feeling, and I appreciate that it has stayed part of the community while so many bookstores have disappeared. That said, books have gotten expensive, and I have fully become a sellout with Audible and used-book shopping. I'm actually getting ready to downsize my own book collection because some of them deserve a better life with someone who will actually read them again. It would be amazing if Barnes & Noble had a simple used-book trade-in or resale option here. This is a nice size store with something for everyone. Mom and I decided to come in on a Sunday around 11:30am and have a cup of coffee and a slice of cheesecake. They have a Starbucks Cafe and the cheesecake comes from the Cheesecake Factory. There was plenty to choose from to snack on besides the cheesecake. The servers at the cafe were professional and very friendly. Mom had a wheelchair so we appreciated the ramp to get to the seating area for the cafe. The store is well stocked and very clean. The children's area is large and very inviting for the young ones. Next to the children's area is a large display of toys, many of the toys are educational and interactive. Came in here today, I'm a regular. I love this place!! Absolutely amazing. The BARISTAS are all sweethearts, and today I just had to say. If this person was a place I could review, I WOULD GIVE HER 0 STARS!!! I was in line for my regular coffee, and this absolute horrible lady comes up. Apparently a barista made her drink wrong. I was there for the entire thing, and this customer was BITCHING out this poor girl, the girl said sorry multiple times. Asked if she wanted a refund or a remake of her drink, and the customer continued to belittle her. I cannot believe people actually do this? I was there the entire time and the minute that angry customer left the barista broke down crying. They don't deserve this! You people need to treat these girls better! They are ok to make mistakes! Super noisy, never have any books I'm looking for... when they're extremely popular! I can find all the books I'm looking for at the grocery store but not the biggest book store? The workers there are not helpful whatsoever and the worst part is there is absolutely NO places to sit to read your new pick.. unless you choose to sit at the Starbucks where the workers yell and laugh super loud the entire time. It's also not comfortable at all. The prices for the books really suck the most. I can find everything online or at the GROCERY STORE for half the price. Found a book for $6 at Meijer, the same one I was trying to convince myself to spend $30 on a soft cover at B&N. And the $6 one was HARDCOVER Found a book I could settle with and the corner was damaged and they refused to give me any kind of discount. Not happy I paid $27 for a new, worn out book. read more

My daughter walks up and down the entire kids section trying to convince me to buy her a hundred different books. I love that she loves books even though she can't read as of yet. It lets me tell people that I do read books though, so it's a win. It's a clean, quiet and wonderful place to spend time at. The staff is always nice and friendly. They have a decently sized area of toys and puzzles that your kid will try to convince you they need. And there's a Starbucks smack dab in the middle for all our Basic needs. We regularly visit Barnes & Nobles, particularly this location, and often buy items there. Today, after making a purchase, we sat on the floor in the corner while waiting for a ride. I noticed an employee walking back and forth, looking at us as if we were doing something wrong. After a while, she approached us and said we shouldn't be sitting on the floor, pointing out the Starbucks seating area inside the store, followed by asking if that was okay with us. I wouldn't have been offended, but her tone was insulting, making us feel stupid. We weren't bothering anyone, just quietly browsing our phones in the corner and not obstructing anyone's path. We assumed the chairs and tables were reserved for customers who had made a purchase at Starbucks. As frequent visitors, we often grab books, read, and sit in the corner without any employees commenting. I found her behavior rude. read more

With technology taking over different aspects of our lives as far as reading on tablets, laptops, desktops etc. and as we watch other bookstores fading away, we're still very fortunate to have such a nice Barnes and Noble bookstore in our area. It really has so much to offer besides 'just books'. First of all, it's a must to browse the huge clearance/sale book and activities section that has everything nicely categorized according to subjects and at really decent prices. I can't tell you how many books we've purchased from this section in past years.... many! They have a nicely organized and large magazine section with seating to browse through any of the hundreds of magazines you may want to read. There's an area of games and puzzles for both adults and kids. Do you need your yearly calendar or calendar book? They have tons when that time of year rolls around. The children's area is tucked away in it's own little section which is nice for not only the kids but for mom and dad too to share some story time with the little ones. There are all kinds of miscellaneous odds and ends for gift ideas too. There's plenty of comfortable seating throughout the store to curl up and dive into that interesting book you found. If you're hungry or thirsty, Starbucks is right there in the middle of the store and it's always relaxing to sit and read and enjoy a hot or cold beverage and maybe even a pastry or some fresh baked goods. The restrooms are convenient to get to and are always clean and well taken care of. There's plenty of help at the help desk located near the entrance of the store for any questions you may have. The line to check out usually runs very smoothly and the associates ringing up the customers are always friendly and helpful. If you have that 'hard to buy for person', a Barnes and Noble gift card may be just the right gift since there's a little something for everybody! This store is definitely worth a visit for all ages. read more

It's a B & N. I prefer the store by Oakland Mall due to it's location, not on Sprawl Road, but there's a good selection of books and a big ol' wall of magazines here, too. The Starbucks cafe is less cozy, too, elevated on risers smack dab in the middle of the store rather than in a more chill corner like in the Troy store. Of course with covid these days it's not exactly popping with no seating. I'm not even sure if they were selling stuff to go. I was on this side of town and popped in to get a discounted wall calendar after the first of the year, a personal tradition. Of course with one on my phone it's an outdated relic but I like seeing time represented up the wall with a big monthly picture, maybe marker in some events if events are a thing. I went with Stranger Things this year, shy of ten bucks at half off. No problems with service here. B and N lacks the charm of an indie bookstore but you gotta take what you can get out this way. read more

i came here searching for a specific book for christmas which was shown to be in stock on the website at this location. the first lady who helped me said there was none in stock which made me disappointed because i drove over 30 minutes just for this book. as i browsed the other books, Matt came to help me. he searched high and low for this book and checked the back room where he found it! I absolutely love this store - my own personal paradise. I love to read, so walking in here can be a long process. We came in for one book that we needed, and they located it quite easily. We ended up finding another book that we wanted as well. They had quite a lot of sale sections as well. Anytime you need help finding something, you can ask at the counter. They will even walk you over to the right section. I loved coming in here to work on assignments for college. They have chairs and a coffee shop. It is actually peaceful and quiet, unlike Starbucks. I can actually focus on my work, which is nice. They have all types of genres for books. The store is always clean and smells nice. It is worth a stop if you are looking for books. This is the second time I visited this store - this location. If you like books and are looking for something new, I'm sure you will walk out with something in hand. I bought two books here. Interestingly enough, I recently read the book, "Twelve Years a Slave" in .pdf form. While at this store, I ran across a new release of the same book, and promptly bought a copy for 7 bucks. Then today I noticed a movie release with the same title. I guess I wasn't the only one who thought it was a good book to begin with. It seemed like about half of the store was dedicated to educational aids and children's selections. No complaint here. I wish kids read more and played video games less. It's a Barnes and Noble. Que your standard sections, tables with suggestions, staff recommended reads, and cards/magazines. I came in to wander around and browse my favorite sections. So many books I wanted to buy! I didn't, even thigh I'm a member and they had some deals and sales going on. This location is on Hall Rd. which is currently under a lot of construction so be aware of that. The area is normally congested since you'll find a huge variety of big box stores. Great place to do all of your shopping if you have quite a list. read more

Then I overheard the store manager berating an employee (he was a tall older man). His condescending tone, and for a lack of better words, "mansplaining" was disgusting to hear or be around. Good service and atmosphere but the prices kill my chances of shopping here. The books are very expensive and although they have a large selection that spans many different genres, it is not worth the price. They may not even have a specific book that you want. I have been here the past 2 years to buy books for AP exam review and summer homework, but it is not worth the price. They also suggest that you sign up for a rewards card but you have to renew it a lot and you probably won't even end up using it. I love a brick and mortar bookstore and feel so fortunate to have a Barnes and Noble in my neighborhood. The magazine section brings me into their store monthly as they have a great selection of magazines, many from the UK, which you cannot buy elsewhere. The last time I needed a special toy for a child's birthday I purchased it here(a truck) and It has become one of his favorite toys. The staff at this location is always pleasant and helpful when I have asked for assistance. I recently went in looking for a graphic novel for my teenage nephew and the young bookseller in that section really knew his books and helped me select my purchase. The review should be prefaced in that I am a long time BN customer, and this may be more of an entire company vs. location complaint/review, but this was the location that I went to, and had the biggest issue with. After receiving two books as gifts, I attempted to return them hoping to get in-store credit to get different books that I had not read. The gift buyer had given me the actual receipt, vs. a gift receipt. The manager came to "assist" but gave one of those straight-faced, canned responses of "I'm sorry, but we will not be able to help you" answers. The original purchase occurred outside of their ridiculous 14-day return policy. So even though the books were unread, and in perfect condition, and are books that have only been out for a few months, I'm not able to get even in-store credit for them? Needless to say, I will never give BN another cent of my business. Terrible business practices, even if they are from a corporate level, they just make no sense. read more

Big fan of B&N here:) I hope they always stay in business. This location is nice and big, helpful , and of course to the Starbucks right in the center of the store. I come here quite often and I'm never disappointed. The store is very clean the staff is very friendly eager and willing to help u. When I've asked for book suggestions, or even when I haven't, and they see what I'm already buying I end up getting great recommendations by somebody who has actually read the author that I'm interested in and is very passionate about reading or the same fiction or nonfiction book that I have. That's what you get when you come here. I don't have a nook, but I do know that if you want one or have one the people who are there to help you with that super happy and not pushy. Seen people of all ages bring theirs in,or ask for help or questions and they ate happy to help. It's clean and it smells good. There's a Starbucks in the center and a big toy section. It always seems busy and there always seems to be enough employees working to help everyone. The brick and mortar bookstore is going out of style but Barnes and Noble is really keepin it classy on Hall Road. We went for the semi annual sale. Books and toys were 50 percent off. We scored a $100 toy for $50 right after Christmas. They have a frequency card that would definitely be worth it if you shop for books often. Unfortunately we don't go in there as often as a frequency card would allow but I highly recommend it to anyone who does shop more often. I was actually unaware that they had toys at the bookstore. They carry toys for all ages. It is very organized and again clean in that area. I enjoyed shopping through their selection. Of course they have many books. As well as little trinkets, journals and calendars for gifts. They also have a huge magazine section with a bench right over there so you can sit and peruse the selection. read more

World History covers a huge amount of geography and chronology, so this is NOT a very helpful way to browse. Other than that, the story is what you'd expect from a B&N. It's important to note that their cafe serves Starbucks coffee but is NOT a Starbucks cafe. They do not honor Starbucks gifts cards or coupons, and only have a small selection of the standard Starbucks drinks. read more

I ordered Eragon for my wife in April and had it direct shipped to our house with the understanding it would be here on the 8th of November, the day it was released. Here it is the 12th, and still no book!! After an hour on hold they said it wouldn't arrive till the 15th. Ugh... I'm shopping at Amazon from now on. Their books arrived on the 8th like promised. The hard sell by rude clerks to get me to sign up for the rewards card has driven me away. (Most books I have gone to Barnes & Noble to purchase lately are not in stock anyway. I am usually told I have to order it on line.) I could recite the spiel for the rewards card because I have heard it over and over again. When they ask if I have the card I say that I do not and that I do not wish to sign up and that I have heard all about it. Too many employees ignore my comments and continue to spout the terms before completing my transaction. They literally hold my purchases hostages until they have uttered the last word of the pamphlet that sits on the counter for anyone who wishes to read about the rewards card. At the finish of their recitation I again state that I do not wish to sign up and have often been met with snotty remarks or questions like "Why not?" My reasons for not signing up are my business. The poor attitude of the clerks has lost my business. I no longer frequent a store where I am expected to stand and listen to something I have told them I know all about or be subjected to having my purchases slammed down on the counter or hear snotty comments. Some clerks have told me they don't want to push this card but they are made to do so. With brick and mortar stores disappearing and Amazon offering rewards for online purchases Barnes and Noble would do well to remember that good customer service means much more to keeping patrons than a few dollars of rewards. Being treated with respect by a courteous employee is a reward that will keep me coming back to a business. read more
