They were there in less than fifteen minutes, navigated the complicated scene with SO MANY cars parked all over the place, and had me up and running in a flash. Before going to work, I was hoping to pick up dry cleaning across from the McDonalds on Franklin. I saw that all the street parking had been taken and decided to park in McDonalds because I knew I wouldn't be there for longer than 5 minutes. I had had no problems previously when I parked there and was gone for far longer, but when I came back from getting my clothes (4 minutes after parking) my car was already hooked up and ready to be towed and I had 10 minutes to get $140 in cash because their "card reader wasn't working". Thankfully someone was able to take me to an ATM, but this situation was extremely predatory and unnecessary in general. I plan to follow up with this as it seems to be surging problem for many people. read more

I was with my friend, I went into McDonald's and she was "off the property" for less than five minutes. while I was BUYING food, ON THE PROPERTY, I came outside and saw my friends car being towed. The guy told me that the driver of the car can't leave the property. NO WHERE have I ever seen on any sign that it is specifically the driver. when my friend offered to go to an ATM to get the cash needed, he said he can only give us five minutes. The woman that answered the phone was about as hateful as possible even though we remained extremely nice and cordial the entire time. This company is full of leeches. All the poor reviews on here are truly representative of how terrible these people are. They prey on college students by hiding and waiting for you to step off a property so they can swoop In and tow you and force you to pay unreasonable amount of money IN CASH. Between my classes I went to get lunch. While waiting on my order to process, I visited another businesss to pick up my to go order and came back to pick up my order from the SAME business that I parked at. Because "I stepped off the property" they were "allowed" to tow me. I was gone for no more than 5 minutes. The sign was hidden by huge bushes, so I could barley figure out how to get the phone number to figure out who towed me. The woman on the phone was terrible and continually hung up on me while I tried to figure out where and who took my car. again THE SIGN WAS HIDDEN. When I got to the location where my car was, it was a sketchy fenced In lot. The lady on the phone told me to "bring $260 in cash only" if I wanted my car back. I've had to have Barnes come out twice within the last week for a problem with our Chevy Tahoe and Curtis was wonderful! VERY polite, friendly and professional.The second time we needed a tow and he managed to quickly get that HUGE tow truck backed into our slanted and sloped single lane driveway and lane without any mess or marks anywhere! (UPS trucks half that size have left huge divots all over the yard and even run over some potted plants!) He worked very quickly, carefully and efficiently getting our big old baby onto his truck and off to the local mechanic we previously booked ourselves. He was very careful loading our big truck onto his truck bed - I've seen some where the front bumper looks like it's about to scrape the ground-- this didn't happen here. I am so satisfied with his quality service - we would definitely call him again for a tow! Just be patient with the scheduled arrival time and plan for it to be on the back side of the estimate. I had a really difficult towing job. Had to get my Chevy 3500 van towing a 3 Ton camper into the back yard through a wet yard. Got stuck quickly as I left the paved road. Called Barnes for a tow and they were there soon. He was worried about getting his tow truck stuck but stuck with me until the job was done. He had to move 3 times and extend the cable 100 feet to pull me up to the tow truck but finally got me where I needed to go. I really appreciated him going above and beyond the call of duty to get me in ahead of predicted rain which would have made the job impossible. read more

AAA sent them to help me after my car wouldn't start at Food Lion on Thanksgiving eve. The place was packed, and the experience could have been bad, but the man was kind and considerate, and patient. He hooked me up, and towed me home, and made sure I was all settled before he left. On Thanksgiving eve. I would recommend them anytime, to anyone. For whoever said they tow to the "most expensive garage" - No, they ask where you want to be towed and if you don't have a suggestion, their suggestion would be someplace that your car will be safe to leave after hours; often that means a better quality garage with lighting, fences, etc. read more

If I could leave a ZERO star review I would. I drive a company fleet car and since it is still under warranty Ford Roadside set up the tow to the closest Ford dealership. The website gave an estimated time of arrival of 10:57am. It was 9:39am at this point. I had been broke down since 8:50am but had to go through my company's policy first. So I'm sitting there on the side of the highway waiting. At approximately 10:47am I decided to call the tow company to ensure they were actually coming since it was set up online. The lady on the phone was rude to say the least but I continued to be kind. She informed me that she was overwhelmed with the amount of calls and tows today. I totally get we all have bad days and I'm forgiving. She informed me that my driver was supposed to come get me first but he had actually started on another run before me. So it would be an additional wait but she'd call me. At 11:10am I get a call from the towing company asking if I had heard from my driver. I had not. She then informs me that it will be 15minutes before he arrives. He arrived at 11:19am. I happily say "I'm thankful you're here". NOTHING. He says nothing. Then he asked "What's wrong with it?". So I started telling him what happened. I also said "The company didn't want me to drive it any further". He then says "well I'm going to drive it". His tone rude and short. So I give him the key and step to the side. I ask nicely if I could get in the wrecker (it's been cold all morning). He says nothing but throws a hand up. So I go get in. Waiting for him to load it. He then gets in the wrecker with me and starts rambling off the address that the car is to be delivered to. I'm not sure of the address but confirm it as the ford dealership. He says nothing. So I try to create convo just to lighten the mood. He says NOTHING. So I sat quietly during the majority of the 20+ min ride. Once we were almost to the destination I try once more to be nice. Assuming he was familiar I ask "Anywhere good to eat in Siler City?". He replies with "I don't have a clue". Again rude and short. So at this point I give up. We arrive to the Ford Dealership. He then said "Go in that door. I'll drop the car and bring the keys back around to you." I replied thank you as I was getting out of the wrecker. Again he says nothing. I check the car in and have to go to the back to the service department. The wrecker driver dropped the keys off with someone in the front. I have seen fruit with more personality. I did the right thing and continued to be kind. I literally had tears in my eyes when my ride came to pick me up. I wouldn't recommend going with this company until they work on some customer service. Horrible experience. Side note I forgot to include: The wrecker driver kept his drivers window down the entire ride to the ford dealership.. it was in the low 40s. I'm a home health nurse dressed in scrubs and a thin sweater.. I was freezing but obviously too afraid to ask for heat after how rude he was. I pity him so much. I am deaf (using a cochlear implant) and I had a difficult time understanding what she was saying as my phone was also breaking up. I had already told her I was hoh, and yet she became very rude after I had to ask her to repeat something more than twice. The office manager Brandi lied on the phone to me after their driver admitted causing damage to my vehicle, saying "I'm sorry, you need to grow up" and promptly hung up the phone. I called back to reconcile and she refused to pick up. Calling back later to complete paperwork for the damage, Brandi yelled through the phone saying "Don't call back again." That's fine, Brandi. I am suing Barnes Auto & Towing for illegally towing my vehicle. They towed it from the Panera on Franklin St. for walking off the property even though the north end of the property isn't marked for a walk-off policy. They also refused to accept anything except cash despite the ridiculous burden that placed and that I had to pay my Uber driver to get cash for me. They broke 8 different parts of the city of chapel hill ordinance on towing from private lots. When I tried to reason with them, they called the police and filed a report mistakenly against my grandfather (who is dying in hospice right now). These people are pure evil. If I could give this classless misogynist a-hole zero stars, I would. I didn't actually use his service. I was at Trader Joe's in CH on a Saturday. As expected, it was extremely busy with a lot of traffic. As I was attempting to back out of my parking space, Barne's tow truck pulled up behind me and parked in the driveway, blocking me in. I got out of my car to see how much room I had to back out. I drive a small car, and it squeezes into some small spaces, but I wasn't sure I could make it out with a tow truck parked in the middle of the driveway behind me. I asked the driver if he could just pull up a couple feet. He said No, you'll have to wait. I mentioned I needed to be somewhere and I had frozen items in my car. He again said No. I told him he can't just park anywhere in a store parking lot and block people in. He said he owns the company and can do whatever he wants. It was obvious the service he was providing wasn't a tow or car start. He was accessing a locked vehicle, and there were several places he could have appropriately parked his truck. After he refused to move his truck, I attempted to back out of the parking space. He then got behind my car and started screaming Learn how to drive!! He finally moved his truck and I backed out. I thought he deserved a nice photo to share with AAA. And as I was walking back to my car he pressed on the gas pedal and caused his truck to lunge forward, like he was trying to intimidate me. They picked my car up at 5:25 pm...I live 1 hour 5 mins away...my car got dropped off at my house at 9:55 pm!!! Left our car for less than five minutes in an improperly marked parking lot and came back to it towed. We called the number on the nearest sign immediately and he told us that he would need a 30-minute warning before we show up to get our car, keep in mind we are two college girls who had no car and the buses did not go anywhere near the towing lot. He told us over the phone that he only accepts cash... $250... We went to the nearest ATM and then had to order and wait for an uber. The uber driver told us on the way there that this same man tows young college girls cars at crazy hours like 2 a.m. (knowingly targeting young girls) and takes over 30 minutes to arrive at the tow lot (which is nowhere near campus and in a very sketchy area)... having them wait there alone (the Uber driver told us that often times she waits with the girls for him to arrive). After reading more about this guy, we learned that often times he will hide behind trees or near the Panera parking lot until he sees college students leave their car for even one second. When we finally arrived to get the car... there was another guy waiting there at the lot to get his car. The man finally pulled into the lot and mocked us for wearing our masks. We gave him the money and then he asked for $300 from the other guy that was waiting (keep in mind ours was $250). The man said that it was $50 more because he was getting it after 5:00. We started talking with the other guy who was picking up his car and he said that the man never informed him of an extra $50 for picking it up after 5:00... he also said that the woman on the phone had told him that it would be $150 to get his car. They told me I couldn't pick up my car til the next day when really it was fully possible to get it that day-- so they got an extra $45 out of me. These guys were wonderful!! Our car wouldn't start this Sunday morning and they came out right away and diagnosed our car. Turns out our battery was nine years old and had died on us. They sent another truck with a new battery and had it replaced real quick right there in our driveway. Now it's running like a charm! I sent in a service request to AAA and they contacted Barnes Towing. The individual arrived and was very kind and friendly. He hitched up the vehicle and said he would drive it to our home. Some time later I spoke to him on the phone and he said he had to make a stop on the way to collect something from another customer. So we thought it would not be long. After waiting one hour and 15 minutes we tried calling and we text him and did not get a response until after we called AAA to complain that he had not shown up. They called him and was told he would be there shortly. Finally after 2 whole hours he shows up giving an excuse that his boss had him do something else. By this time it was too late to get the car battery taken to a store to exchange it. Very poor customer service of having people wait in the heat for 2 hours to receive their vehicle that wasn't even 19 miles away. I would not recommend them to anyone :) read more
