The Gonzalez contract stated scraping of old paint is included, but the team refused to scrape paint off my siding saying they don't do that. I brought it up with the foreman multiple times. Well, most of the exterior of my house is siding, so I would never have signed the contract if that was stated at the outset. See the attached photo for how they just spray paint over peeling paint. I called the owner and left a message but there was no return call. I won't get into other issues, but for this reason alone, I am giving 1 star.

I remembered how great of an experience I had two years ago and hoped I could get him to come back. I've had other painters come in between those years due to 4A being booked on the days I needed. All of those times, I felt a weird feeling in my gut or the other painters just didn't do a good job. This time, I was PRAYING I could get 4A to come in so I didn't have to bring someone else, lol. Luckily, he was able to come the next day (a Saturday morning on his wife's birthday!!) to give me a quote. He then came the following week to remove the foam and paint. Reliable, insanely well mannered, respectful, clean, and of course, great skills-- above and beyond. I cannot say that enough. Last time, he painted more than he needed because he saw what other painters have done. This time, not only did he remove the horrible sticky foam and painted the room beautifully, he also reinstalled hooks that were basically falling off and loose. He was able to finish the job on all walls in one day. This is the only company I would go to. I highly recommend!

I recently had a leak and had a roofing repairman come and fix it and inspect my roof. He found numerous examples of shoddy workmanship, including shingles installed crooked, exposed nails, improper flashing, incorrectly installed ridge caps, etc, etc, etc. I would never hire these guys again. Wish I could give them negative stars. Update 11/21/24: Apparently Cristian Romero is not very happy with my review and claims he never did any work for me. But I wrote a check for my roofing job to "Romero Construction" on Angier Ave in Durham, NC. Which is also where Modern Exteriors used to be located. It was the same business just going by different names. Kind of clever huh. Note that the other review of this business on Yelp called them "Romero Construction" and Cristian Romero didn't have any problems with that review. I'll be happy to update my review with a positive rating as soon as these guys come back and fix their poor work or give me my money back.

This experience was unexpected, especially since I had previously used Miguel's services to install…read moreseveral cameras, and that transaction went very smoothly. Approximately one year later, I contacted the company to have the cameras reset, as I did not have a ladder tall enough to reach them, and to install an under-cabinet ducted vent hood. The microwave previously installed in that location had already been removed, the duct opening was prepared for the vent hood installation, a 120V receptacle was already in place, and no electrical work was required. All of this was explained before the job was accepted, and I confirmed the quoted cost for both services on two separate occasions. Unfortunately, there were several instances where Miguel did not arrive for scheduled appointments and failed to notify me that he would not be coming. This continued for approximately a week and a half until he unexpectedly arrived one day. He successfully reset the cameras; however, when it came time to install the vent hood, he stated, "The office quoted me the wrong price, and I charge $250 per hour because I am a technician." He also mentioned that his teenage daughter had accompanied him. I had not hired or agreed to pay for an additional person to assist with the work. Miguel then refused to complete the installation at the quoted price and requested an additional amount equal to 100% increase of the original quote, effectively doubling the cost. I declined and paid only for the camera reset service that had been completed. I am disappointed by the lack of professionalism and poor communication. Had there been unforeseen issues or additional work required, I would have understood. However, that was not the case here. If there was a pricing discrepancy, it should have been communicated before the appointment, giving me the opportunity to decide whether to proceed. Increasing the price on the day of service, without justification, is not a professional business practice. Based on my experience and some of the other reviews I have read, this appears to be a recurring issue. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this company.

The cost was higher than I wanted. After 2 or 3 failed attempts to hire a local handyman it was a relief to deal with an insured, bonded, responsive company. It was worth a bit of financial pressure to finally have the job done and done well.
