Various folks recommended Barnstormer to us during our visit to the Finger Lakes, so while in the area, we popped in. We did not have a reservation, but easily found ourselves a spot at the bar. It was a pretty rainy and crummy day, but even though a few other couples had the same idea as us to hit a winery to avoid the rain, we did not feel crowded in the space at all. The winery is certainly one of the most well decorated spots we visited. They really lean into the barnstormer and plane vibes, with appropriate decor in every facet of the interior. It was very tastefully done and gave the winery a certain fun and unique vibe. We were seated at the bar for our tasting. The bar was quite large, holding a number of different couples but giving us all adequate space to spread out, have a few glasses in front of us, and not cloud the others' conversations. You could chose from a few different preselected tastings, and I opted for a mixed red and white tasting while my husband opted for the all red tasting. My husband enjoyed all of his, particularly liking the merlot. I enjoyed the whites in my tasting more than the red (I had a weird after taste from one of them which tainted the red experience for me), favoring the chardonnay of all things (I am not a chard gal). We appreciated how our server engaged with us, telling us a bit about each wine but also navigating hte entire bar without lingering too long in one place. She answered our many questions about the wine, being knowledgable but also approachable. We had a great time and enjoyed our wines. Barnstormer was a great rec from our various servers etc while in the Finger Lakes - while the wines themselves may not be at my top, the vibe and service did stand out. Really enjoyed popping into Barnstormer to sample and buy a couple bottles of locally sourced wine from Seneca Lake! I loved the unique variety of wine they produced and really enjoyed the German varietals as you can't find those just anywhere. The winery itself is beautiful, both inside the barn, and their outdoor patio spaces. The woman who helped me and let me sample some wines before purchasing was so kind and knowledgeable. Visited this way back in September 2020 during Covid, but felt compelled to give this place props for providing great service and an escape during the pandemic. The wine is really good if you like dry white and red styles. Finger lakes in general has better wine than any other region in the east coast, and this place is a good example. The wine was balanced and had notes of fruit without being too sweet. The flights of 5 small pours runs $12-16 and that is a fine deal! The food options were excellent too. We had the scotch egg and an array of local cheese and bread. All were worth the price and paired well with the wines. And finally, they had plenty of seating outdoors with shade, including near a giant tree that attracted some bees but they didn't sting us. Fun! read more

We were blown away by the early-day service and energy Molly brought to our tasting of four on a Monday! She was educated, exciting, professional and entertaining while we did our first tasting of the day. The Rieslings here are delicious (hard to not be in the FLX), but their barrel aged Riesling was the best wine I've ever tasted. We even went back to purchase more bottles the next day. The interior and exterior is really well put together, moody and vibey. Though it doesn't have the best view of the lake really, it made up for in its wooden designs and low lighting. Please make sure to always ship that barrel aged wine to Virginia, as you'll always have a customer from there! read more

Regular tasting flights are $12 and "Staff Picks" are $16 for 5 wines. I loved the cute fireplace and comfy sofa chairs. AND a cat! I enjoyed the 2021 N6679O Semi-Sweet Riesling and the 2021 Altitude. They also had a fridge that sold cheeses and meats. I got one of their glasses as a souvenir for $5. read more

On a trip to the Finger Lakes, my friends and I happened to go to Barnstormer based on a recommendation from a server from another winery, and we were so glad that we did. For starters, Barnstormer has a nice venue which consists of a restored barn. There are a variety of high top tables, couches and a bar to sit at, and there is a rustic ambiance that is symbolic of their wines. We did not have a reservation, but the server greeted us and welcomed us in to one of the high top tables. The server was one of the best parts of our experience, as he talked about the wines in a way that was reachable to everyone, and he was extremely knowledgeable of the wines that they produce. My friends and I opted for the red wine tasting, however, our server gave us much more than was advertised on their menu, which made for an incredibly fun experience. Having tried a variety of their wines, I really loved their red offerings. Their Departure Reserve was one of my favorites, but their Cab Franc and Sangiovese Rose were also some favorites of mine. Once we get back to the Finger Lakes, Barnstormer will definitely be a spot that we go back to! I suggest to anyone looking for a winery in the Finger Lakes region, especially a winery with some nice deeps reds. read more

There is nothing better than wine tasting. I remember when Barnstormer was Arcadia. That is how long I have been wine tasting on the Finger Lakes. My boyfriend and I stopped here on our way to New York City and because he had a meeting in the area. We sat down for a tasting and immediately stuck to the bar. It was a sticky situation we were in. At least it made for no way for your wine glass to accidentally spill, or move anywhere. The service was ok, but our person poured us one glass, and then took another couple who had just come in to a different tasting room. The other employee was more focused on the other tasters and got confused a couple times as to where we were in the list of tastings. Also, $15 for a tasting is quite steep. I realize wineries were hit by COVID, and not having many people touring their facilities, but again, if your tasting fee is almost the amount of a bottle of wine, and you're only getting maybe a glass, if that, during a tasting, there is something wrong there. You do not get a wine glass either for that price, just the pours. read more

We split flight #3 (focus on Riesling) and our favorites were the Bubbly Riesling and Tuller Dry Riesling. We both thought the Semi-Dry Riesling smelled and tasted funny, but this is their best seller so maybe it's just us‍. I just finished my first trip to the Finger Lakes Wine region, and did a TON of research beforehand to select the 4 wineries we'd visit on our day trip to Seneca Lake. I read blogs, articles, reviews, visited their websites, looked to see if they were mentioned in any news or won any awards. We are all California natives who go wine tasting on a regular basis, and we all enjoy dry wines, specifically reds and don't really care for sweet wine. So, this was a challenge I accepted in an area that does a lot of sweet wine. I'll save you the hassle of doing your own research - I ended up taking my friends to Herman J Wiemer, Barnstormer, Fox Run and Red Tail Ridge. Barnstormer peaked my interest from the beginning. My signifant other is a pilot, so I liked the aviation theme, the reviews were great, and there was a lot of information about this very new winery doing "some great things" and the pictures of the barn make it look cute and quaint. Upon arrival, the barn is cute and the setting is lovely. The tasting room was large, had a nice modern barn vibe, and they actually had a lot of fun gift items for sale, which was good for getting a souvenir. The tasting experience was awesome - they give you a paper with all their wines and you get to pick 5 to taste. I love the gift of choice, so this made me VERY happy. The wines were really good. The Nosedive Port was excellent, worth taking home, and the Rosé of Sangiovese was great as well. I also enjoyed their Pinot Gris and the Bordeaux Blend called Departure. I have to agree - this winery is doing some nice things! Now, one thing to note overall, this area produces a weaker wine than California. I will attribute this to the amount of rain and moisture this area gets, so they really have to work hard to get a lot of flavor out of their grapes. So, if you like big-bold-cab's, you may be disappointed in the wines of the finger lakes overall...but, I say, let's appreciate the area for what it offers, it's unique and nice to see an area working hard to make good wine despite the climate and challenges they face. read more

We were running late for our tasting at Barnstormer, but called to inform the winery and they were very understanding and accommodating. As recent as July 2020, Andrew Cuomo has issued new regulations for the state hospitality industry, including winery tasting rooms to serve food with alcoholic beverages. While some wineries force you to order food, Barnstormer gives you the option of buying oyster cracks for 50 cents per bag to satisfy that requirement, which is super cool, since not everyone wants to eat every time they stop by for a wine tasting. As enticing as the 50 cent oyster crackers sound, we were actually hungry, and opted for a cheese & charcuterie plate to share. It was a reasonably tasty cheese & charcuterie plate, and we devoured the entire thing. We were drawn to Barnstormer particularly by their red wines. The Finger Lakes are not known for their reds, and Barnstormer's red wines are by no means great, but they are pretty good. Surprised to see Sangiovese and Syrah in the wines, as these are not common grapes grown in the area. Hannah, our wine pourer was really sweet and checked on us every time to see how much we enjoyed each wine we tasted. She even let us swap out one of the wines from the tasting so we can try the Syrah. If you're looking for a place with good wines, service and atmosphere, definitely stop by Barnstormer. read more

Lovely Seneca Lake winery in a restored barn. My boyfriend and I had a tasting reservation here last week. There was plenty of space between us and the other guests. We enjoyed many of the wines in our tasting along with our cheese board, but our favorites were the Angel's Share and the Gewürztraminer and we purchased both of them. Enjoyed a wonderful tasting at Barnstormer Winery on Saturday afternoon. The cozy indoor space makes this a great winery to visit especially if it is a rainy or cold day. Quality: On our recent trip, most of the wineries we visited showcased amazing outdoor areas, but Barnstormer Winery had the coziest and most well designed indoor space. This would be my winery recommendation if visiting the area during the winter. We ordered two Wine Flights, the Dry and the Semi-Sweet, as well as an add on of the 2019 Blaufrankisch Reserve wine. The highlights for me were the 2020 Semi-Dry Riesling, one of their most popular for a reason, and the 2020 Departure Red Blend, though I think it will get better with age. However, on a cool and wet afternoon, it was the Mug Of Mulled Wine that we decided to order and sip on near the fire outside. Quantity: The Wine Flight comes with five wines, we also got a sip of Mulled Wine, which led us to order a full mug. Value: $12-$15 for a Wine Flight. $8 for a Mug Of Mulled Wine. Ambiance: Barnstormer Winery is a lovely little winery located in the Finger Lakes. It sits on the west side of Seneca Lake not far from Watkins Glen. From the outside the tasting room looks like it is in a worn brown barn. However, when you walk inside the space has been transformed into a cozy farm house. There are two rooms in the space, both being used for tasting. We were lucky to be placed in a small lounge area, around a fireplace. Everything about the space was homey with lots of wood, leather, and even some blankets for guests who may be chilly. Outside they had multiple seating areas, some in structures others uncovered picnic tables. They also had an outdoor bar for tastings and pours, but the weather made it less popular. However, there was a fire that seemed to draw folks after they finished inside. Crowd: Reservations are highly recommended on the weekend. We were lucky to arrive during a short lull, but a few minutes later we would have been turned away. Service: Even though they were very busy, they understood the importance of allowing guests to enjoy the experience. Both of the staff members we interacted with were great, and they also knew how to carefully nudge people out to open up seats for the next guests. This was the first winery my friends and I stumbled upon while in Seneca Lakes based on the great reviews. After pulling up in the parking lot, we were greeted by the cutest ginger kitty ever!! The cat was extremely friendly and welcoming, what a pleasant surprise :) Upon walking in, my friends and I sat at the bar where the staff was and we looked at the available wine tastings - it's $4 for 5 wine tastings. We all ended up liking what we tried so much - the Jenny's, that my friends and I each got the 3 for $33 Jenny deal and some more wine on top of that lol. The Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve was really good, I highly recommend that. I'm typically not a white wine drinker but I loved the Jenny White (probably because it's pretty sweet). Prices are very reasonable, you get a 10% off deal off your purchase when you check in on Yelp too! The staff here is great - super attentive, friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. I also learned that the adorable kitty is the winery's and has been there ever since the start :) I really enjoyed my time here - great vibes, super chill atmosphere and yes, that adorable kitty helps too haha. Barnstormer is one of the newer wineries on Seneca Lake lower south west side. That being said, several years ago we had started a wine trip there and had arrived 15 minutes before they opened, greeted at the door and nicely welcomed in anyway. That remains one of the best experiences of any of the wineries on any of the finger lakes that we have visited, and I have 50+ souvenir glasses. So when phase 4, following Covid-19, allowed for wineries to open, my mom, 2 friends, and I planned a wine tasting trip. No easy task let me say as most required reservations and just showing up could result in no visit or a wait. We started at Barnstormer, and as usual they did not disappoint! We were warmly greeted and brought to a nice table outdoors on a private shaded patio, slightly back to the left of the building. When we made our selections, which are always tasty, they were brought in glasses on carriers that were unique and beautiful. We enjoyed ourselves and relaxed taking our time, having been left to enjoy but frequently checked on. Wines were really nice and changed my opinion of FLX wines, as I had a couple of experiences at other wineries that made me think all wines in the area were going to be poor and undrinkable. But I really enjoyed the atmosphere & the hosts and well I walked away with three bottles that I will bring to a group tasting where I introduce my friends to new varietals they think they don't like. My suggestions here would be the Dry and Semi-dry Rieslings and the Chardonnay. These are easy drinking and perfect for beginners as well as those who are experienced and have more complex palates. My favorite winery! I was lucky enough to go to the Finger Lakes 2x this past season and I got to go here for 3 different outings. The barn itself has such a different vibe than the other wineries. I love the old feel and the rich history! It's beautiful inside and the grounds are gorgeous! I attended as part of a group tasting and then as a regular tasting. The group tasting is worth it. I believe you need 6 people. They set you up with a beautiful table and an array of cheese, crackers and meats before you start the tasting. We had an awesome wine expert (Kyle) that really created an awesome experience. I brought my family back for a lunch outing (including those who don't necessarily love wine) and everyone loved the environment. If you are on a tour you'll want a little extra time here if the weather is nice. The "backyard" has games, hammocks, picnic tables and lots of space to take your favorite wine and relax. We've been visiting Finger lakes since 2012 and had visited Barnstormer I think a year after it had opened that would have been July 2014. The wines are impressive even though the operation is rather small but it doesn't diminish anything about this awesome place. Scott and Kyle manage a pretty good operation including producing some of the best in the region, which for a 3 year winery is damn good in any region. Usually when we stop buy we get a case, which is about 4 times a year. Mostly Rieslings but also the Reds which are a rarity in this region but we really enjoy Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pinot Noir. read more

We arrived to this winery because of all the reviews and high ratings. Best decision for a last minute stop before going home. They had wine tastings 5 for $4 and ice wine tastings for $3 each. The jenny red was super delicious and goes great with BBQ food. Not to sweet but just right. $12.99/btl The ice wine was super nice and tasted just like honey. Was a really nice drink to end all the tastings. $64.99 /btl. The reasoning why it's so pricey is because it's harvested during the first frost and is never thawed. This required more grapes to harvest to make the wine. Liza, our server was super nice and helpful with explaining all the different wines. She need detailed information about each wine and grape which was nice. They have indoor and outdoor seating, as well as corn hole outside. There is plenty of parking on both sides of the barn which is great when they have big events. read more
