The selection of wines with matching cheeses exclusive to Magnus was well curated, while the server shared ample of expertise around the different styles of wine and peculiarities of certain grapes and years. We really enjoyed our wine flight here, and our server was so nice as to give us a taste of their cider as well! As good as the wine is, you could get lost checking out all they have inside! The venue is tremendous with outdoor seating, a cafe area, and wall to wall wines, cider and other trinkets. Hard to not bump into something because there's so much! We have visited the fingerlakes wineries for fifteen years now, but have yet to visit a place like Magnus Ridge. Magnus is not a part of the traditional trail, and my husband and I found the winery to be an incredibly unique and intimate experience. You are given a menu at the cash register that includes a wine and cheese pairing (built for one person, not meant to share), or a selection of wine-only tastings. You pay and then are steered towards one of the tasting rooms. We sat down with two other couples, and the server guided us through the wines and their cheese pairing. It's amazing how some of the wines changed as you tasted them with the cheese, or how the cheese changed taste entirely. The last cheese and wine pairing tasted like strawberry cheesecake. Magnus Ridge Winery is quite charming and worthy of a visit if in the area. Upon entering, we were redirected to the opposite side of the room for our tasting. Magnus charges $5 for eight tastings with cheese included. The service was attentive. Visually Magnus is slightly different that other vineyards. It has a certain mystic, is dimly lit and oddly charming. Every space is filled with items for sale, ranging from wines and cheeses to t-shirts and home decor. The shopping experience here can be as interesting as the wine tasting itself, if you are in search of knick knacks. We went with a bottle of wine, the Magnus Garlic Cheddar Cheese and a tomato marinade that was literally mind-blowing. Their tasting selection is on the dry side, however if you prefer sweet, they substitute. My group reserved same day wine tasting and it was so worth it! They take your temperature at the door and you enter the shop. The tasting rooms were absolutely beautiful and clean. We were in a tasting room by ourselves (covid friendly). There were 7 types of wine paired with 7 different cheeses/pasta. Dan welcomed us and explained the process of the tasting. He was super friendly and came to check on us a few times. The traminette paired with the wasabi cheddar was the group's favorite! We also loved the toasted onion cheddar cheese. Overall, the pairing of each wine and cheese/pasta was well done. We even got to keep the wine glass at the end of our tasting. The only complaint is they were understaffed but the staff was still calm and friendly. There were other guests who were not understanding about that. read more

Least favorite experience We went here and I said this place is huge and will be good. I walked in and said we are doing tastings. She said you need a ticket. Fine we go to get a ticket and nobody is at the table. I asked another worker and she got smart with me. I went back and said can I just purchase the ticket here. She said no. This was a first stop on a day with 4 Seneca Lake wineries. We went as a group and booked private tastings at all of them. Magnus Ridge was a nice, but tourist oriented winery, but we had a private room with a very enthusiastic young man giving us information on the wines they had picked for us. He's studying viticulture and Oenology at Finger Lakes CC and plans to transfer to Cornell. Most of the wines were quite tasty. I ended up buying a 2016 Reserve Riesling and an unowned Chardonnay. This is a nice place to stop with a friendly staff and enjoyable wine and cheese pairings. It was the winery furthest South that we visited that day. Enjoy these places when you have the opportunity. $6 covered our tasting fees and water was provided as well. read more

This was a great winery. Their tasting is a bit more ($16) however, it's 7 different wines with a cheese pairing! Definitely worth the stop and money for the tasting. Our favorite cheeses were the Happy Hour Cheddar and the Onion one that is similar to French Onion Soup, but we enjoyed trying each cheese with the wine selected. The service was wonderful with the server walking us through the tasting and explaining each wine. We loved everything about this place! The gift shop is really large with fun items for sale. The tasting rooms are beautiful, if you go that route. Initially the cost of $17.50/person for a tasting seemed high - but we ended up feeling it was well worth it. First of all, you get 7 tastings...though the first one is a hard cider & our server gave us free refills of the generous pour of that, plus at the end of the tasting he brought us the raspberry flavored hard cider that they also sell and gave us half a glass of that to try. The other 6 tastings, all wine, come in glass "test tubes," labeled and in a jar - very clever way of handling Covid precautions. You also get a plastic covered tray with 6 pieces of cheese (all made on the premises) and a small pasta salad; these were pairings for the wines - and they were outstanding. We ended up buying 3 of their cheeses, as well as a case of wine because it was all SO GOOD. We were out on their patio, looking over their garden, and could take as much time as we wanted working our way through the wines and cheeses. There was only one of the wines we didn't care for; the rest were excellent. Finally, we each got a wine slushy "to go" which we put in our motorhome freezer and had later that evening; yummy!One of our favorite wine tasting experiences anywhere! read more

I love Magnus and visited two years ago, had the wine tasting paired with cheese, and browsed the amazing gift shop. There are now limitations due to COVID 19, mostly that patrons are not allowed inside at all, including to browse the gift shop. However if you are looking for a very socially distanced wine tasting experience, Magnus Ridge definitely had the best (no interaction with servers really at all). You order over the phone and wait outside until your wine is brought out. The DIY wine and cheese pairing on the patio was just as excellent as I remembered (with Yancey's cheese and Cheeky Monkey tomato olive oil), and they even threw in the souvenir tasting glasses. read more

Went to three wineries that day and this was my favorite one! For not being on the lakeside they sure made up for it in other better ways. They have wine tasting and beer tasting here! The whole winery and outside is beautiful. They made the back very romantic looking with logs, an arch, and pond. I loved how they have ample outdoor seating for you to just relax and enjoy the whole wine tasting experience. Wine tasting was $5 and it includes 8 wines, 7 cheeses, and 1 dipping sauce! Such a great deal, and it was nice to try the cheeses before you buy one (which you will definitely do because they all taste very good). They also sell WINE SLUSHIES here at $5/6. BF and friend tried the beer/cider tasting and they enjoyed that experience as well. Ever fantasize about swapping your date for the waitress? That's exactly how I felt at Magnus. I took my crazy Tinder date to the Finger Lakes region for a wine tasting -- I don't know why I travel so far with a first-time date -- and we stopped at this great winery. Crazy Tinder Date Woman (CTDW?) loved the fruit-forward wines -- especially the un-oaked Chardonnay. I liked the cheese pairings. But the highlight for me was "Anna" -- that's the young Cornell grad that explained our wine flights and pairings to us. Wow. She was awesome. Knowledgeable and outgoing, Anna walked us through eight wine samples and cheese pairings for five bucks. I've done wine tastings from Napa to Paris, but a fun-loving guide really makes a wine-tasting special. I'd go back. This winery has one of the nicest and newest wine tasting rooms. The French chateau inspired building with multiple private tasting rooms is nicely laid out and includes a patio out back. There is even a beer and cider tasting room in their cafe. The wine itself was typical of most of the Finger Lake wineries - ok in my books though I did like the fact that they paired a cheese sample with each wine. I love the Tuscan style and decor; the wine and cheese/dip pairings; the wine slushies; the Chunky Monkey dip; the vast selections of cheese, oils, sauces, and wine paraphernalia; the beautiful tasting rooms that would be perfect to reserve for a private party; the friendly service and owner; and the patio to sit back and relax or wait while it's busy. The only downside I have experienced is waiting as it can be very busy with crowds around the tasting bar, however, the winery is nicely stocked with "wine candy" that I browse around and fiddle with things until the bar quickly clears. I remember the day we discovered this gem. It was on the Friday after thanksgiving in 2012. My friend and I were visiting all the wineries on the road that caught out fancy...or were open on such a infamous day. One of our stops was at Fruityard (another fave) and the tasting rep was asking is where else we plan to go. Since our options were open, she suggested we check out the new mansion on the lake. Ohhh boy, are we ever happy that we took her advice! Their tastings are generous, a total of 7 and growing paired with a different cheese. Their Wines are very clean and crisp. They offer mores whites than reds. I do not believe they have any heavy red nor dessert wines. My first purchase was the Pinot Gris (sold out often) and Riesling. As my visits became more frequent, new wines were being made like their Happy Hour, a nice and light crisp white, and their Fire Ant Red which is a lightly sweet wine that will make an amazing slushie one day! Besides their wines that can please any crowd, the atmosphere in this place is remarkable. Private tasting rooms with hearths, impeccably clean bathrooms (yes, this is important), a cafe for all things chocolate, beer tasting for those pesky friends that don't care for the better elixir of life, and the wide and vast variety of novelty items! On a bachelorette wine tasting tour?!? Stop here right now! That is all I can say. There aren't enough words to describe what a good place this is for girlfriends...just come in. In the warmer weather days they have their patio open. Which is another sight to see for yourself. Be careful when you are driving to this place. You may pass it since the mansion is on the hill.
