We didn't have time to do a tasting at Barnstormer but I had a glass of their wine (Jenny Red) at a nearby brewery and fell in live with it. We stopped in to buy a few bottles of Jenny Red and a bottle of Chardonnay for a gift. The place is warm and inviting with cool decorations. A good selection of wines that aren't quite to the level of others nearby, but with lots of promise, Barnstormer Winery is one to keep your eye on. Sometimes I grade a place not necessarily on the actual experience but on the potential I see in the products they offer. That's very much the case with Barnstormer Winery, which opened relatively recently in 2013 and has all the ingredients to eventually become excellent. The tasting room is a very inviting, log cabin-esque barn with parking lots on both sides (which I didn't realize until I jammed my car in the small crowded lot). You can taste five wines for $4. Between myself and my girlfriend we were able to sample all of the dry wines they have on the list. Overall they were solid, with nothing really standing out as exceptional. From the other reviews, it looks like the semi-Dry and sweet ice wines may be more in their wheelhouse. Regardless, my favorite whites were the 2015 Dry Riesling, which had that familiar crisp acidity with a subtle apple taste and a touch of sweet, and the 2015 Gewürztraminer, with a familiar floral nose and a surprisingly amount of spice. The reds were also okay but with potential, especially the Cab Franc, with strawberry jam and a touch of pepper. We splurged on the $1 tasting of the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, and this is where all of the potential comes - the most complex and robust wine they sell, with tannins that far surpass the other reds they have on the tasting. So yeah, I'm grading on a slight curve here, since three stars seems a bit too unfair for such a young winery. While I really wasn't too impressed with what I tasted compared to other more established wineries in the area, there's enough skill in the wine making to warrant a repeat visit in the next few years. read more

The spicy flavored Gewurztraminer was my favorite among the dry flights. We were offered around 5-6 pours in this tasting, with an extra sparkling kindly thrown in. The indoor tasting room was cozy with a square shaped bar. While the outside was mostly a grass view. The vineyards are visible as well, but at a distance away. This was the first winery we ever visited on Seneca Lake and I am really glad it was our first one! It start with great expectations for other places along the way. The outside is beautiful, the simplicity of the large sign, so clean and yet so noticeable from the road. I like simplicity. Lots of parking on either side of the winery. There is outdoor seating on the deck but it was terrible weather when we first came here so we headed inside. Tons and tons of space, it is beautiful inside as well. Right when you walk in there is a huge bar area in the middle of the floor where the staff stands. There is another room in the back where there is beer served and more comfortable seating with chairs and coffee tables. The merchandise is also in the back room, things from wine holders, glasses, cheese boards, and more. We both did a tasting, I am definitely a sweet wine person, dry wine makes me cringe so I did my tasting of all the sweet ones and lovedddd the Angel Share, the Jenny wines are good as well but I really enjoyed Angel Share. My +1 enjoyed the dry wines and we ended up walking out with the Angel Share as a gift. I like the menus and how easy it is to mark them off as you drink them. Simple idea but some other places don't have it down just yet. Great staff. The girl attending to us was brand new but knew the wines pretty well, when we asked about other suggestions to visit she was unsure but got another staff member to help us. He was so great and helpful. He suggested tons of wineries, breweries, and even the Wienery for food. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have known there was a carrot dog there! Friendly staff! They also have different events with live music. We had gone back a different week and played corn hole, they have about 4 boards. Food, music, cigars, wine, and beer. This was our first winery stop during our visit to the Finger Lakes and we had a great time. The Barnstormer employee who guided us through our tasting was lovely. She really made our experience personalized by tapping into what wines we liked and relating that to the wines that Barnstormer had. I love that each wine tasting is custom. You select the wines you'd like to try by marking them on the dry erase menu. This way if you like more reds, or prefer sweeter wines, etc. you can make sure you're tasting wines you'll like! This is especially fantastic if you have a variety of preferences within a group. The grounds were also gorgeous. We loved the cornhole and hammock outside with a stunning view of the vineyard. And lastly, I have to compliment the branding and marketing. I love a good logo and design and Barnerstormer doesn't disappoint. Their t-shirts and wine bottle labels are well done. Summary: Nice cozy tasting room with some of our favorite wines of our trip! Definitely should stop by here. Wine: Very tasty wines! We didn't try one that we didn't like. The only place we visited that was careful not to mix a fresh tasting pour with the dregs of the last taste, which was nice. Ambiance/View: Very quaint and comfy tasting room! Not much of a view from the inside, but the tasting room itself is beautiful and worth the visit. I will say that the tasting room was a bit small and would get very crowded very quickly. Really enjoyed this winery, the guys working here were super cool, laid back and knowledgable. We came in close to closing time so we had the entire place to ourselves, plus coming in on a rainy Thursday afternoon helped. Their wines were fantastic. We ended up leaving with a bottle of their Proprietor's Red, which was a blend of Merlot and Cab Franc, it was pretty darn delicious. This is a newer vineyard, they do not sell their wines in any liquor stores and they have a small production. Their winery was neat, in a cool looking barn with rustic furnishings. It was cozy, definitely not a good place to bring a large group but smaller groups will definitely have a good experience here. Looking forward to coming back again. read more

This was an awesome find! Kyle did our tasting, and he was great: very friendly and knowledgeable about what we were tasting. I enjoyed every single thing I tasted, and left with a Sangiovese Rose, a Dry Riesling, and a Late Harvest Riesling. The Nosedive was such a unique port-style wine as well. We just finished a weekend of wine tasting around Seneca lake and Barnstormer was by far one of the best things. We arrived shortly after opening at 10:00 a.m. and were seated quickly, although I'm sure it is more difficult to get a seat without a reservation later in the day. The wine tasting was reasonably priced ($8 for five ~1.5 oz pours) and the wines were all fantastic. Our flight attendant was very knowledgeable and gave us enough background on each wine but then left some time for us to enjoy on our own. We even got two pours extra in addition to the flight,one of which was the port wine, which was so delicious we purchased a bottle. The semi-dry Riesling was my second favorite and apparently these are their two top best sellers. We will definitely be returning to Barnstormer on future visits to the finger lakes! read more

This was our first time at Barnstormer - a relatively new winery. The tasting was great. It was a somewhat small selection since its a botique winery but certainly large enough to meet everyone's tastes. The server was very friendly and informative and the wine was good. We bought a couple bottles of wine here, which is unusually for a new winery since we have so many "musts" on our list. I'm a little fuzzy on the rest of the tasting since this was my non-driving day and it was getting late (!) but I know it was good. read more

Amidst doing various sundry tasks about the tasting room, she occasionally took a moment out of her busy day to serve us our next tasting wine, while simultaneously delivering a line or two of obviously rehearsed, painfully stilted wine drivel... she sounded like a customer service representative trying to sell you something over the phone We didn't buy any wine. This is a great small business from terrific people. Their lines are varied and pack a punch. Tastings are more than affordable. Make sure to try their dries as well as their port which makes a great dessert wine. Take the time to talk with the staff who are incredibly good with both their product as well as the area. They also had Empire Brewery's White Aphro on tap--its from Syracuse so finding it out here was a boon. In all this is one of my all-time favorite wineries in North America due to the approachability of the staff, the high flavor profile of their wines and the laid back nature of their taproom. Super small and cozy winery. We were the only ones when we visited. It's a boutique winery so the prices are higher than other vineyards but the quality is definitely up there as well. Each tasting is $4 for 5 wines. There's an extra charge for the Riesling ice wine and Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve tasting. We shared a meat and cheese platter which was about $13. The staff was very friendly and since it was the weekday gave us an extra tasting. The pinot noir and cabernet sauvignon were my favorite. read more

Not that it mattered, because I liked the Cab Franc so much that I would probably have paid even more. Something they do especially well here is hire attractive staff. A Cali girl obsessed with dry red wines, I've been a little disappointed in the Finger Lakes during past visits. While most wineries offer varietals I've never tasted, none have measured up to my dry palate. Barnstormer Winery has since convinced me that the Finger Lakes region is stepping up their game! I'm not much of a Merlot drinker but their bottle is one I could enjoy regularly. However, we walked away with the Cab Sauv and Pinot Noir for later that night being that I'm so into Pinot's right now. They also offered a meat and cheese platter that we took advantage of and it paired great with our tastings. One of the best features of the winery was how cozy the tasting room was. We never felt rushed or pressured to speed through our tastings. The owner Scott explained each wine and told their story, never making us feel unwelcomed. We spent about an hour and a half enjoying the wine and company, making it a great start to our day! All in all, a great new addition to the Finger Lakes and we will back very soon! read more

We decided to stop by during our trip to Niagara Falls and are so glad we did! The young lady was really polite and helped me choose out a couple wines for my friend's birthday party and recommended that we try 5 wines for $4. I really enjoyed the atmosphere is this winery. We went with a group of 10 and paid $3.00 each for 3 tastings. The wine section was great and the servers were personable and knowledgable. They mull wArm wine and give you a taste of that at the end! It was SO DELICIOUS. The inside is super trendy and nice and it's pretty cool that the barn has been there for over 100 years. They've got some cute tables set up for purchasing little gifts and such. The cat that lives there is bailey and is pretty badass. I'd recommend buying a bottle of the jenny red it's super delish! read more
