I had the ribs, pulled pork, and loaded fries. I liked the fries, the pulled pork was ok, but the ribs were a massive disappointment. They fell off the bone nicely, but the flavor was so bland. It tasted like as if my culinary illiterate grandmother made them for a heart patient. That and I think Carolina sauce is a far inferior compared to you Texas, KC, and Memphis sauces. We were there a few weeks ago on a dead afternoon and every bit of the meal was gross. The table was sticky even after the waitress wiped it off. Brisket was shredded for some reason, as was all of the dry and tasteless meat in our sampler platter, and so dry it was seriously hard to swallow. BBQ sauce was like ketchup. One sauce dispenser was just straight up vinegar with some floaties in it, I have no idea what was going on there. The potato salad was scooped right out of the bucket from Sam's Club and left a weird metallic aftertaste. Onion rings had raw batter and were super greasy. Like, dripping greasy. Corn fritters were so overcooked they were tasteless and had a texture as if you had sand in your teeth. Biting into them they crumbled into a mouth full of burnt corn meal. Even the sweet tea was soured. Our salads each had one tomato piece on top and both of us had an end piece with black rotten spots. The whole meal was disgusting, I didn't even want to pay for it, but we just wanted to go home and get something to eat, we were starving. We left hungry because the meal was seriously inedible and I'm not even a picky eater. Took home the meat and gave it to the dogs. They didn't mind it. Visiting family in the area and came here for dinner. I ordered the smoked duo of pork and chicken with mac and cheese, green beans, and slaw. I thought the pork was better than the chicken. The chicken was a bit dry as was the mac and cheese. I don't really get the raves about the mac and cheese. Maybe I caught it on a bad night but I didn't care for it. Good green beans and the slaw was chopped fine the way it should be. Big stringy slaw should be outlawed. My aunt got the chicken livers which I sampled and were very good. Very little breading and bits of onions. Yum. Her red skinned potato salad was very good. I preferred that to the mac and cheese side for sure. The mustard BBQ sauce was my favorite of the sauce choices. The Carolina vinegar sauce didn't do it for me as I am a huge Eastern NC BBQ fan. NC BBQ with the vinegar based sauce is best on finely chopped pork and this pork is not chopped fine but still very good. Ok here is my story and I am Sticking to it. I ordered the chicken liver dinner. ( I know BBQ joint, I already had their BBQ.. Not impressed.) I called in my order and the lady told me 15 minutes and it would be ready. Arrived at the rest. and I waited and waited. .. 45 minutes later and I finally complained. Their excuse was, sorry, the chicken livers were frozen. The owner I guess just brushed it off like I was suppose to be a happy customer. The price is a joke for what I waited for and received... I received 5 chicken livers and 2 very small sides for a WHOPPING $12.69. Plus I left a tip. I paid before I received the food. I got the combo meal, brisket and pork, with a quarter rack of ribs. Meat was tender and had a good smoky flavor,but I brought it all home with me to put Sweet Baby Ray's on it. This was the worst BBQ place I ever visited. The sauce was so terrible that it made the meat unbearable to eat. It tasted like really rancid ketchup. Unfortunately, they slathered it on. The other two sauce options were equally unpleasing. I love BBQ and I couldn't even eat more than a few bites. To make matters worse, the sides were served cold. We should have known better when the restaurant was practically empty on a weekend and the fact our server was slow to even take our drink orders. Went here for an early dinner. Seated right away and ordered drinks, then appetizers and dinner. Appetizers were fried green tomatoes with lump crabmeat and cheese. The spicy aoli was very good. Also tried the corn fritters which were quite tasty. Both of us had ribs, which were tasty and not overly smoky, and they were fall-off-the-bone tender. The big disappointment- as others have noted- is the sauce, which is completely uninspired. It's not much more than tomato sauce with a splash of vinegar. No smoke, no heat, no flavor, no sweet. My group decided to eat at Barnyard instead of BW3's, what a mistake that was. I have worked in numerous roles in various restaurants and consider myself a authenticated, honest food and service critic. The service was bad and the food was worse. The server, as most servers who have never been trained in a good restaurant, lacked all sense of presence and dynamic necessary to facilitate an enjoyable dining experience, even when considered in the ambiance of the Barnyard BBQ. The server did not introduce their self by name, inform us of specials, suggestions, or what drinks where available. It was just, what can I get you to drink? Um, I do not know because you have not told me or suggested what is available, that was strike one! I asked for lemons and the lemons brought to the other side of the table were not the wedge style lemons designed for squeezing into tea or water, but more thinly sliced for garnishing alcohol drinks or desserts. I was unable to get lemon flavor in my tea, the entire reason I ordered tea to begin with! I was not even given a straw until I asked for one. When I asked for one the server placed more than 10 straws at once over me onto the table- that was strike 2! If you peered into the kitchen and saw the dish washing station, which I had a wide open view of from my table, then you would not drink from the plastic either. Hello, manager, get a divider so your customers don't see the wait staff, hear them talk trash or see the inner workings of the kitchen at the dish tank! If your in a BBQ joint you order the ribs right, so I ordered 1/2 slab with BBQ beans and Macaroni & Cheese. I started to steer away from ordering ribs realizing there is actually a science to making good-ass-slap your-momma BBQ and it does not magically materialize. But wait a minute, that is what this place was right, the kind of BBQ your best buddy makes the sauce for a day ahead for game-day celebrations in your backyard. Or at least that is what you might think at first. The moment of truth, my plate arrives, what a disappointment. The ribs and sides are on one plate and the sides are in side dishes that I used to serve wedge cut lemons in for drinks as a server, just to give you an idea of the portions. The ribs, which you could hardly see beneath the sauce, which did not deserve to be called BBQ sauce, were disgusting. The sauce was not tangy, sweet, spicy, tomatoe-ish, or any combination of those, the sauce was weirdly bland. The sauce in the BBQ beans tasted even worse, the only flavor was from the piece of an onion that must have accidentally fallen into the beans, because there was just one sliver. The Mac&Cheese was even bad, it had been doused in too much bread crumbs and put under neath a heat lamp for too long. The service got even worse after I choked down everything because I was someone's guest and did not want to create a huge scene. The server cleaned a dirty table right beside ours and placed a cleaning towel and spray bottle of cleaning solution on the ledge above the table next to ours in plane sight. Maybe the server should just of rolled the mop and mop bucket out, parked it next to our table and then he could have really got the party started! Bottom line, bad service and even worse food. I would be surprised if this place is open in a few more months. You could make better BBQ in a microwave from something straight out of a freezer. read more

Last meal there was not good at all. The food was nothing special and some not even slightly good at all. We ordered a dessert and after 20 mins of waiting on it we asked the manager what was going on. She was kind of snappy and said it's busy it takes awhile and walked off. The collards were dressed with a spicy vinegar and the macaroni was cold, chewy, and not very cheesy. This was the worse dining experience I have ever experienced at a restaurant in the Charleston/Teays Valley area. Worse meal we have ever had. Ribs were overcooked and the crab cakes did not even resemble crab cakes at all, very thin and bland, the normal corn fritters were so hard we could not even bite into them and should never have been presented to customers.(The server did bring fresh) Onion rings were over cooked and grease soaked. Saw an episode of "BBQ Crawl" today that featured this restaurant. Since we were heading through Charleston I thought we would stop and get some BBQ. I was disappointed. We got the barnyard sampler for two and there was certainly a large quantity of food. But I found the chicken and pulled pork to be dry. The brisket was shredded instead of sliced, but that could just be my expectation of BBQ brisket. The ribs were good, but a little too fall off the bone for me. Everything had a layer of sauce on it that I could have done without. The sides of Mac and cheese, BBQ beans, and green beans were good. We had coconut cream pie for dessert and it was delicious. The kid got the chocolate cake cow patty - think chocolate cake dipped in funnel cake batter and fried. They didn't like it. In all it was not what I was hoping for in a BBQ restaurant. Maybe it's a BBQ culture difference. We are from NC and BBQ is different there. But, that pie sure was delicious read more
