Our server, Krystal, was more than engaging and pleasant. Her opinions were 100% on point... here's the culinary tip of Suffolk: you can never go wrong with the fried oyster sandwich with a side of their Mac and cheese. Seriously, a solid 5.0 stars. Krystal, the wait staff and definitely the wait staff hit it out of the park. Best meal in Suffolk is the Baron's Pub fried oyster sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese. I fell in love with this place as an out of towner! If you like blackened shrimp? Holy Moses! Party in your mouth! I like them a little warmer than dusted as they advertise on the menu. I recently rented out the private room at Barons for my son's rehearsal dinner. We had 30 people and the room rental came with a private bartender. I really can't rave about the experience enough! The whole thing went off without a hitch. The service was beyond wonderful. I hosted an open bar and open ordering from the menu. The food came out in a timely fashion and the drinks were flowing. The space itself is a speakeasy vibe and had a secret door that attached to the restaurant. It was completely private and large enough to probably accommodate at least 50. Our bartender Heather was a dream. She coordinated just about everything throughout the night and even helped me decorate. The food varies from pub fare to steak. Everything was hot & delicious. The appetizer trays I ordered ahead of time were ready right on time as people were coming in. I cannot recommend this place enough for any special occasions event. I checked out many places before I found Barons and I'm so happy I found them. Just to give you an idea of how reasonable they are, I did an open bar, open menu ordering and appetizer platters for 30 people. The tab with generous tips? $1,000. I was sooo looking forward to this restaurant. The pictures -- particularly the fried oysters -- had me drooling! However, as I sit here this evening, my husband is puking his guts up.... 45 minutes ago we ate at this restaurant. Table of eight, seated at 6:00. Plate one was delivered to the table at 7:15. The second and third plate -- 7:21. The fourth and fifth at 7:35. The sixth plate at 7:40. The seventh plate at 8:00. Needless to say, the table had eaten by that time. The sauteed vegetables, the coleslaw that were suppose to come with the meal? Delivered after EVERYONE had cleaned their plates -- cold green beans from a can. Refills on our drinks? Never. WORSE service ever! We took notice that tables around us had arrived after us, eaten and left. The explanation? "We serve the two- and the four- topper tables before the larger groups." Yes, THAT is what she said. So, don't expect good service, don't expect good food, don't go with a large group. . . . Better yet -- just don't go. Got there at 5;30 waitresses came over at 5:45, ordered a beer they came back 5 minutes later and told me that beer was out. Ordered diner and a different beer did not receive it until 6:05 and received my meal at 6: 10. Once upon a time, there was a woman who was too busy to notice a restaurant called Baron's Pub (BP). It was located in the downtown section of Suffolk, right on the corner of Main Street and Market Street. It took over three years until, finally, the woman decided to walk through their door. When she looked around, she thought it was a bit dated, and BP could have used some renovations--not to mention the musty, old building odor. "I guess I was right not trying this place before," she said to herself. However, she still wanted to give them a chance. While perusing their menu, she was impressed with their long list of burgers; the Peanut City Sticky Burger really caught her eye. "Peanut butter, bacon, on a burger? Say what?!" She was excited about such an interesting burger. Her salivary glands started to work at the idea of her upcoming meal. When the plate arrived, there was a large steak knife stabbed into the burger. "This place is serious," she said. Slowly, she used both hands to bring that monstrous half-pound burger to her mouth. As she chewed thoughtfully, her tastebuds thanked her for coming to BP. Peanut butter, bacon, and beef should not work, but for some crazy reason, it does. After she finished her food, she looked at the bill that the server had brought her. She had to take another look because she couldn't believe her eyes. Not only did BP have the best burgers in Suffolk, but their prices are phenomenal. A half-pound burger with hand-cut fries for $9?! It's like a fairy tale. The woman left BP full, happy, and a bit ashamed that she hadn't visited sooner. But she knew she would return, and she went home happily ever after. The End read more

This is an extremely racist establishment. They don't train any of their employees (especially not black employees) correctly and when something goes wrong they blame them. They've had 3 ppl quit in the same day because they have no idea how to run the place. The waitresses tend to be snappy and the food is less than subpar. Overall: Average. We got some burgers, club sandwich, salad, she crab soup, and jalapeño poppers. The goods: Our server was great, location is convenient, and the restaurant was clean and "comfortable" but COLD. It was 20 something degrees outside and inside was marginally warmer. Every time a door opened if felt like an arctic wind tunnel blowing through the lower level. The food was more or less average, about what you'd expect from a pub. The jalapeño poppers and onion rings looked and tasted store bought and fried on spot. Not bad but not original. The salad was good, in fact my wife said it was full of "fillers" and wasn't just lettuce and dressing. Although she did note that she wouldn't get it again. The burgers were good but average for a pub, same with the club sandwich. The she crab soup I guess was supposed to be really good but in reality I'd say it was below average. Very creamy but very little crab. And there was a small shell in mine. We also took a lot of leftovers home. While I like leftovers, I've also found that if the food was "knock your socks off" good, folks will tend to stuff themselves until all the food is gone and thus there are no leftovers to take home. Pub style foods. Lost a star bc of the inconsistency of the quality of soup. When ordering Togo, we Always get a bowl, they only fill the small container halfway. They used to have oyster crackers, now it's saltines. Pizza is ok, sandwiches and burgers are tasty. read more

Was really impressed with this place. All of the food we had was very good and the portion sizes are massive! You can definitely share things here! The prices are damn good too especially for the amount of food you get. Fried pickles: HUGE something you'd find at the state fair! Tasted good but I prefer slices and not Spears but otherwise they were good Rueben- good but could've been crispier Bbq cheeseburger- amazing! It was enormous and super tasty! Crab stuffed mushrooms- very good and smothered in ooey gooey cheese, only wish the mushrooms themselves had cooked longer. Blue cheese chips- very good and portion size was huge! Kids meal burger- a little small but the loaded cheese fries that came with it made up for it because they were bangin! Fried oysters- very crispy and lots of them. Teriyaki wings- my son inhaled them! They were very good he said. I'd love to give them 5 stars but service wasn't great. Waitress didn't know anything about items on the menu or even if they had a kids menu. She was super flighty. We'd ask a question and she'd pause for 5 seconds with a blank stare on her face. I have been here on several occasions and have been pleased with my food and experience every time I've swung by. Our waitress for lunch was an absolute jewel, and the food was just as fabulous! They have daily lunch specials as well as drink specials for those so inclined. It's got a great laid back feel to the place, and honestly every food item I have ever ordered here has tasted better then expected! How many times can you say that?! We never had to request or wait for refills due to our waitress being on point the entire meal. She was a breath of fresh air, and so were the yummy vittles :). My husband's "cowboy burger" was an absolute dream, but ALL the burgers sounded amazing and try worthy! We enjoyed a few apps while we were at it as well and were tickled pink with all we partook! We definitely will be returning to Baron's, and can see why it's been around for so long! read more

October 9,2021 Saturday about 1:30pm to celebrate my birthday me and my family came to eat here. Food wasn't bad , wouldn't recommend to eat here. My issue? I'm a coffee drinker, fresh coffee. Our young server said when asked, COFFEE WAS MADE AT 11AM AND THAT WAS ALL I COULD GET, NO FRESH BREWED ,WHEN I ASKED HER. So I went to the women behind the bar, asked her if I could get fresh coffee. She told me the coffee from 11 am was still in the pot and could not waste it to make fresh. WAS THIS WORTH US NOT COMING BACK??? I think that kind of service is terrible and other business's would love to have business in these trying times. Another one of your customer's commented to me how stupid that she could not make a fresh pot!!! Server also wasn't great. Daughters order was wrong and dressings were brought later. Went here for a quick bite to eat on Wednesday night. I had the special which was the Baron Burger. Burger was pretty good. The fries were ok wish they were fried a little harder they were too soft. Was very busy when I walked in. Maybe one of the few restaurants in Suffolk open on a Monday? Nevertheless, service was very sporadic but very friendly. Waited FOREVER (well over 40 minutes) for my food to come out and it was only an appetizer sampler. Once it did finally arrive, it was just OK. The cheese sticks were not "stringy melty" hot as I would expect. The buffalo chicken tenders were also just warm, but were really big and meaty (best part of the meal). The hottest part of the platter was the lumpia (spring rolls), which was tasty. The cheese sticks, lumpia, and all sauces were food service - out of a box, bag or bottle/jar. I probably should have ordered something else - and other menu items may be much more impressive, so take this review with a grain of salt. read more

Hey babe let's try something local... OK-15 mins later we are at Baron's Pub. So let's start with the parking which was out back on the street. Not a big deal, but you should know that there's no dedicated parking spaces for the restaurant. We entered (a party of 4) and we immediately noticed that pub smell (you know old carpet kinda) but it wasn't overwhelming so we sat ourselves as the sign directed. We were greeted quickly by our server Leah who brought menus and took our drink order before I could even sit down good. (Plus) After she brought us our drinks she told us it was wing night, I love wings.. why yes I'll have some of those! I ordered 10 wings, extra crispy with sweet chile sauce. My entree was the crab cake sandwich Hubby's entree the Red-eye burger no onions Son's entree the NC Burger no slaw add provolone My girl's entree the kids MAC c Cheese THE WINGS WERE THE BEST PART OF THE WHOLE MEAL!!!!!! Fried Crab cake patty, although a good size was mushy on the inside, about 70% filler, and lacked flavor. Where was the crab Baron? A hot crab cake on a cold bun and over ripened tomato was a no-go. My fries were room temperature.. I could taste that if they were hot they would have been the bomb though. Red eye Burger was HUGE and per the hubs was pretty good. His fries were the same as mine but he made the best of them. NC Burger was great per my son.. very tasty and juicy but bun could have been warmed or toasted. WORST ENTREE ALERT: The kids MAC and Cheese was disgusting! I tasted it to verify and honey I wouldn't feed that to a co-worker I didn't like. We sent it back and got a plain cheese burger, it was much better. Fries still warm but whatever. Overall our service experience was good. Some of the food was lacking but Let me just say Leah is a great server, super attentive and just nice overall. The food was really good. My wife and I shared a bowl of the She Crab Stew and it was as good as any I have ever had. We both got the Baron Burger and it was really good. I've been to Baron's a few times now. Here's my summary: 1. Atmosphere- Baron's feels like a low key pub with a fun atmosphere to it. The lighting is dim, the smell is of an older pub, and the tables and benches are arranged in a way where you can maintain a good view of everyone around you. One call out is that the bathroom is pretty small and right next to some of the tables. 2. Food- The menu suggests typical bar food with a specialty in wings and burgers. I've had both, and the black and blue burger as well as the hot wings were phenomenal! Their fries are well seasoned and crispy, and combined with the homemade ranch are fantastic. Prices are definitely fair for what you get. 3. Drinks- they have a few options on draft, both micro and macro brew, and typically have an IPA or two, which I like. They also have a bartender that can make a number of custom drinks for you if you'd like. Prices are a bit high, but the quality is definitely there. 4. Service- I've had some good waitresses and some poor waitresses on my visits. Overall, they are always friendly. My biggest concern is that they can be slow to return to your table with orders, drinks, and to see if you need a refill. I'm not sure if it's due to being short staffed or due to other responsibilities on the employees, but I've never had a major concern. read more
