Hank's Pub is a hole in the wall pub down on South Military Highway. I wouldn't exactly call it a dive, it's definitely to clean for that. However it does have the characteristics of the old bars I remember from years gone by. No windows, low lighting and very dark inside. The chairs around the tables are those old banquet style chairs you see at convention centers. Some string lights, license plates & speed limit signs decorate the walls through out. The place kinda reminds me of the 70's. If I was coming here just for drinking I'd probably give it a higher mark. As far as food, not horrible but definitely less than stellar and more or less generic. I went for a Bacon Cheeseburger, cuz that's my benchmark, and my coworker Troy had a BLT. There didn't seem to be any "signature" food items on the menu either. While waiting for lunch I glanced around and was happy to see that they had some local brew from Smartmouth on tap. About 3 quarters of the way through out visit the owner arrived and took over for the person that started off as our server. Nice guy, he shot the breeze with us and thanked us both for coming wrapped up our checks. I can't help but wonder if he had been there when we arrived if the lunch would have been a little better. One other thing of note, the menu on the website needs to be updated. It doesn't match the menu we had at the pub. The menu on the website is much more extensive then the menu we had at the pub. Also the prices were slightly higher than what's listed on the web menu. They should update that.

My daughter really enjoyed her grilled cheese. The chicken fingers were more of the bread crumb breading compared to batter so it came off as she tried to break the chicken in half. I had the French dip. It was very good. My husband had the buffalo chicken wrap. He enjoyed it as well. We got the mozzarella sticks as appetizers and they were good. Not sure if they were worth the price but my daughter enjoyed them. I was a little disappointed because the pictures all showed beer battered fries and they came with crinkle fries. If we would have known that we wouldn't have paid for the up charge to get fries.

I love corned Beef & Cabbage. Theirs was perfect. Served with whipped potatoes and whole carrots. I asked our server if the potatoes could be substituted for a double order of cabbage the next time and she said she was sure it could but may have a little extra charge. My Friend chose Jagerschnitzel. A German dish consisting of hand-flattened, fried pork loin, topped with onion and mushroom gravy. It was served with kraut, warm potato salad and green beans. She seemed pleased with her choice. Park Lane gives a welcoming vibe that makes me think of the old TV show Cheers. The kind of place that makes you feel like everyone knows your name. Sit at the bar, a high top table near the bar and watch The Big Game or take a seat on the other end of the restaurant and have a Family dinner or maybe a table for two. Park Lane Tavern is a perfect choice.

This was a turn off but he tried to push through. Nevertheless, he was disappointed while I was full and happy ready to dance! But we didn't stay too much longer as the hour was getting late. But keep Kelly's in mind next time you're out on a Friday night looking for somewhere to pull up. Plenty of parking. Indoor and outdoor seating. Have fun and enjoy life:)

Stopped by for a burger and a beer to drown in my solitude. Had great service. Prompt, attentive and genuine. Only downside was some pretentious guy named Jeff kept whining about the hostess and the service being "special needs" because he couldn't get his group prompt service under 15 minutes on a special holiday. If it wasn't for some derogative guy whining off the bell about how the service wasn't up to par every couple minutes I'd have enjoyed what would've been quite a depressing day for me. Other than that, burger was damn heavenly. Beer was cold and good. Service was grand. Some people just ruin it for others. Great spot, great burger, good beer and good folks. B.W.

The last time I set foot inside their Pleasure House Rd location was at least 10 years ago. I celebrated my birthday there as my friends were kind enough to take me out. It was a Sunday morning and I sought out a place that offered brunch. I noticed 1608 was open and decided to head over, especially since I haven't visited them in ages. When I walked in, I noticed their dining room is dimly lit - much darker than I remember. I was greeted immediately by a kind hostess and she proceeded to sit me at a nearby table and provided me with menus (one food, one alcohol). I took my time looking over the food menu, and in the meantime I ordered a pint of Center of the Universe's Bald Irishman and a bottle of Boylan's Black Cherry soda (they do not have a soda fountain). What made this visit memorable was that 1608's bartender, Hunter, was an old acquaintance from back in my restaurant days. He spotted me and came over to say hi. After my meal, I continued to catch up with him at the bar. His presence made a pleasant experience even more fantastic. I thought I was hungry, so I ordered 2 dishes - Smoked Ham Fried Rice and the Breakfast Burrito. According to Hunter, every item is made fresh in house. After biting into each, you could tell that's true. Both the fried rice and burrito were delicious and boasted lots of flavor. Although I prefer my fried rice a bit simpler (if you give me just garlic fried rice, I am SET), 1608's fried rice (veggies, garlic, soy, basmati rice, 2 runny eggs, smoked ham) had a lot going on, which made for a flavorful dish. I liked the rice and the burrito (Korean style fried chicken breast, scrambled eggs, cilantro lime, cheddar, pico de gallo) a lot. I didn't finish either because it was a lot of food (I really thought I was hungry, haha). But these leftovers turned into a fantastic dinner later on. 1608 looked clean and organized, although I thought it was a little too dark inside, at least for brunch service. That's not a dealbreaker since everything from the food to the service was as excellent as I remember. I hope to return soon with my mom. Regardless, I'll find my way back eventually. Thank you, 1608 Crafthouse! And great seeing you again, Hunter! JV
