Got the opportunity to check out Barre-Up using Class Pass and it was great! Our instructor, Orla, was such a sweetheart and super helpful and encouraging. This was my first time working out in a very long time and she was really good about letting me take it at my own pace and listening to my body and what it would allow me to do. The parking lot is small but street parking is available. The studio was very zen and I enjoyed being able to exercise while looking out at the beautiful weather and trees through the windows. They have everything you need to do barre. You just need to bring yourself, a water bottle and grippy socks and you're good to go. I'd definitely check this place out again. read more

The best fitness studio I've ever been to. Winter and Leah are such kind and thoughtful co-owners and support you on and off the mat. My favorite classes are Buti and Sculpt + Flow, but every class is so good and fun. This isn't a fitness studio, it's a community of uplifting people working toward happy, healthy living. The friends and classmates I've met at Barre-Up have added so much joy to my life and I love knowing I'll see them every week! Absolutely love this class!!! I'm not too big on working out too much but i loves the way Barre Up has a different form of working out with yoga incorporated at the end. I love doing yoga but sometimes i wish there was a little bit of change up in just doing the standard yoga poses. Winter and Leah were amazing at leading the class through the different workout methods and empowering women to let loose and have fun while working out. What really impressed me was while i was working out there were little buzzers going off every so often to let everyone know when we was switching to another work out style. For me personally, working out at other fitness class with a buzzer seems like the buzzer will NEVER sound but i didn't have that feeling here. I will definitely tell all my friends about Barre Up! Buti Yoga at Barre up! was a fun way to enjoy fitness specifically with women in mind. It was my first time taking this class yesterday and I loved it! I had no expectations but to come with an open mind and to enjoy the experience. I can say not only did I enjoy the class but I worked up a good sweat ! Our instructor, Leah guided us thru an hour of yoga poses set to great music. She assured us that she would not take it easy on us but that this would be a great workout for all levels. Not to worry about getting a move right or anyone looking at you. Leave all doubts and intimidations at the door and prepare to shake your booty..I mean Buti. There were some unique moves we learned along with tribal dance that just felt great to do at the end of a work day. We learned that Buti means: the cure to something hidden or kept secret. It is a class that is meant to support the female spirt and empower women. I would recommend this class for all women. The studio itself is very warm, clean and a great environment to workout in It was a little hard to find in the evening as I did not see a sign but there is plenty of on the street parking and I just followed the other people carrying yoga mats! Barre Up is a welcoming barre studio located near NC State. They are upstairs in an industrical looking building. The parking lot is small but you can usually find street parking (unless it's fair time). Once inside the studio is bright and clean with tall windows looking out over the arboretum and fairground. Barre Up has some small differences from other barre studios.First, the style of barre is different from other studios because the pelvis is untucked. Also the class isn't driven by the music so if you don't like loud EDM remixes of pop songs, this would be a studio for you. I have found the workouts to feel less challenging, but I am usually sore the next day so they are clearly working. Like many other reviewers have said, it's very good for beginners and I have also seen a lot more pregnant women at Barre Up than other studios. I think this is because the classes are small so you really get lots of attention. Julie, the owner, is a fabulous instructor. She really takes time to get to know her students and she is able to make beginners feel welcome and challenge even the most seasoned athletes. She gives fabulous vocal cues (often involving food and alcohol metaphors) and great hands-on corrections. Also, the bathroom is stocked with extra athleticwear just in case you pack your gym bag in the morning and forget pants! They usually have a Groupon or Livingsocial discount for new students and they have some good intro deals as well. I have only tried their regular barre classes but they also have bootcamp and are the only place in the Triangle to offer buti yoga (which I hear is amazing!) I went to a trial class at Barre Up! back in February & couldn't wait to go back. It took some time for my schedule to align but finally I decided to commit 30 days to fitness & chose Barre Up! to be my place of commitment. While I immediately fell in love with Winter and Leah the more classes I took, the more instructors I started to meet. I quickly learned that all of them are just as nice and accepting and cared about me and my fitness goals. Each one of them has taken the time to ask my name and even remembered it when I left saying goodbye. They are all very talented teachers and take the time to make sure that your positioning is correct and that you're getting the most out of every workout. I always look forward to my time at Barre-Up! I bought a Groupon about 6 years ago (!!!!) and have been a regular attendee ever since. The packages are appropriately priced and the class schedule is perfect. There is a variety in the classes in general, but no matter what you will never have the same class twice-- the playlists and the flows change so you never get stuck in a routine. The atmosphere is open and inclusive, and the clientele community is welcoming and motivating. So happy to have found this happy little studio in our big ol city! read more

Coming to Barre-Up is one of my favorite parts of my day! They have a lot of kickass workout classes that will help you get stronger (and keep you sore :D). Man ClassPass is spoiling me! Yet again I have found another great fitness studio in the Triangle. I've just recently been introduced to Barre and I'm loving it. I absolutely love the look and feel of Barre Up, it's in a bright studio on the second floor with awesome skylights and high ceilings. There is plenty of space in the room and even with a pretty full class it didn't feel crowded. i was greeted by Caroline when I walked in and she showed me around and made sure I was comfortable. She was a great instructor for my first visit. She took the time to position everyone correctly and make sure we were doing each move right. I thought the workout was pretty challenging but not quite as challenging as some of the other classes I have taken. However I'm sure the more I practice the more I will be able to perfect the form and work harder. The studio provides everything you need so just bring some grip socks and you are good to go. Not sure if parking turns into and issue here since it was my first visit. They didn't seem to have much of a parking lot but I was able to find street parking easily. Overall I really enjoyed this Barre studio and I look forward to coming back again soon. read more

I found Barre Up on groupon and wanted to try this particular studio based on the yelp reviews. The location wasn't easy to find but when I arrived I was greeted by The instructor Caroline. She was extremely friendly and corrected my firm (which is greatly appreciated) throughout the class. The work out was challenging and my muscles were fatigued. The studio is bright and very clean. There was plenty of room for everyone and it was easy to see the instructor. The music was upbeat and before I knew it, class was over. I tried Pure Barre and loved the introduction to the barre method in general, but was looking for another option as well. I found Barre Up through a groupon, but will definitely be signing up for a membership. The owner, Julie, is great and super knowledgable about the body and really helps you use proper form. The classes are small and there is a lot of personal attention, which really helps take your workout to the next level. I've only been to 3 classes thus far at Barre Up, but let me just say, I LOVE it so far! I used to go to Pure Barre in North Hills, but after finding a Groupon for Barre Up, I decided to give it a try... The two barre classes follow the same general format, arms, legs, seat, abs, and stretching; however, Pure Barre and Barre Up differ in one VERY HUGE way... After attending 3 months of classes at Pure Barre, I can guarantee NOT ONE instructor could tell you my name. Feedback during class was minimal, and the instructors almost seemed annoyed if you asked them for pointers or modifications. After only 3 days of classes at Barre Up, I was amazed that Julie, the owner--who actually made an effort to learn my name--took the time DURING class to advise us on how to minimize strain on the wrists. She took note that I had a wrist injury and gave really good instruction on how to avoid further injury. Apparently, Julie had just gone to a seminar where an Orthopedic Specialist had spoken about exercises to strengthen and avoid harming sensitive joints, such as the rotator cuffs, wrists, and knees. The fact that she took the time to make sure everyone in the class had their questions answered and concerns addressed spoke to her professionalism and her dedication to a positive exercise experience. But Julie didn't stop there... after class, we compared stories of our respective wrist injuries and further discussed techniques to avoid injury. In fact, she referred me to the blog of the same Ortho whose seminar she had attended the previous weekend and even found a specific article applicable to my wrist issues and emailed it to me for my benefit. After that, she introduced me to another instructor, Caroline, who took an interest in my story and took note of my situation... as I am signed up to be in her class on Thursday. I anticipate another great class with her then! Another notable difference between Pure Barre and Barre Up is the size of the classes.... Pure Barre tends to pack as many cliquey North Hills ladies as possible into one class (in a VERY small room). Barre Up offers a more intimate setting, with no more than 15 people to a class. The bright, open space with lofted ceilings is located right across from the Arboretum... who doesn't love that view? I also enjoy that Barre Up carries Raleigh Raw Juice. There's absolutely nothing better than a refreshing green juice after a butt-kicking workout. While I only attend barre classes, Barre Up also offers individual Pilates instruction and Buti Yoga classes. If you haven't tried Barre Up yet, you MUST! Great owner, great staff, great venue, great workout, great vibes. 5 stars all the way! read more

Buti yoga is my jam! I originally went to barre classes at Barre Up back in 2014 and only recently started again. Julie and the rest of the instructors are so friendly, accommodating, and supportive, and it really stands out compared to some other studios I've been to. Every time I go to a class I feel welcomed and wanted. While I still attend barre classes occasionally, I love the buti yoga classes - each instructor is slightly different; some blast rap music, while others tone it down; sometimes we work on inversions, sometimes we don't, etc. Not matter what though, I leave the class feeling like I got a good workout in. I especially love the 9:30 on Saturdays - it's a great way to begin my weekend. The studio is clean and has everything you'll need for your workout. I love the huge skylights that let in natural light and wake you up. Parking is easy, and the room is spacious. read more

I had a free trial class to Barre-Up and I have done many Barre classes before so I decided to try the "Hot-core +Sculpt" class. There are a couple great things I noticed/experienced as a "newbie": 1. Cool location! I went to the desk to check in and they already knew my name, were very welcoming, super grateful that I used Yelp (how i got the free credit), informative, and excited I was there. So first couple minutes were exactly what you want when you are trying something new. 2. The Instructor, Leah had an upbeat energy and positive vibe so the class started off strong. She was also very funny and kept the presence light (also, loved her playlist). The core portion was challenging and the sculpt portion definitely made you work but I liked how the workout was different. Different moves that added some spice. 3. The studio was fully equipped which makes me eager to try a different class. It was also tidy and clean from what I noticed. Overall, great first experience and I definitely want to try it out again. I started going to Barre-Up classes to get in shape before my wedding, and was automatically hooked! There are a variety of classes to chose from, so there's a little something for everyone. I personally love the Hot Core and Buti Yoga classes the best since I prefer a faster-paced workout. The Barre classes are sneaky in that you don't feel much during them, but boy do they work...you WILL feel it your abs, glutes, and thighs the next morning - in a good way! The staff is amazing, and truly care about each student and the work they do. I have been wanting to try some form of Pilates for quite a while now, as I used to be athletic and now am very much not. I wanted to re-learn how to move my body safely and build strength with supervision to avoid hurting myself. I had my eye on this place as I live in an odd spot where no other studio (or gym for that matter) is close by, but I thought the proximity to my house was too good to be true. I also always thought a barre workout would be the last class I'd attend since I was more of the soccer/weights/equestrian type. I was definitely wrong! Both instructors along with any others who happened to be around before or after classes were so wonderful and helpful! I tend to be very uncomfortable doing things I'm not already good at and I've never done Pilates or barre, but I felt very taken care of right away. It is all one room with one bathroom and feels very intimate and warm. I explained to the first instructor where I was at, and she made sure to watch my form and help me throughout. I will try to update with better detail when I've had more time to try out different classes! Update 1/23/21: I have now been a student here for a little over a year. If you're looking for a small business to support while also discovering all the muscles you didn't know you had, this is the place. I was in a really tough spot physically - not overweight, but not healthy at all and had let go of all the athleticism I'd built up in years prior. After a year of regularly attending these classes with all the different experience each instructor brings to the table, I feel worlds away from where I used to be. Leah and Winter work tirelessly to bring the very best available to their students, and they have gone above and beyond in light of all the restrictions we faced in 2020 up til now. My body feels so much healthier, stronger, and I've even got abs - but more importantly, a strong core! I have seen so much change, little by little, that feel like victories to someone who didn't know how to "get back in the saddle" of fitness. I can also do things I could never physically do before, from certain yoga poses and inversions to pilates core work that I couldn't do at all before, much less properly. Absolutely fantastic! This place is my go-to work out joint which is a strange sentence for me to type not being the spandex and jump around kind of gal (having the gait of a drunk toddler). You can book into classes on their website or walk in. There is a small parking lot and plenty of street parking. The studio itself is bright and looks out over the arboretum- super useful when you need to distract yourself from the fire in your legs/butt/arms/...entire life! They have a variety of classes and instructors so you can feel out your vibe for that days workout and pick a class/instructor that suits you. I was a complete beginner when I first came here for barre and had never done any yoga at all but I felt instantly supported- I legit needed it. A true no judgement zone! Everyone is friendly and chatty. The Buti Yoga is high energy and a ton of fun and is now my fave workout! You can tell the teachers like it too- they do the whole class with you which is a nice nod to solidarity in that none of us will escape this without feeling the burn! The music is AMAZEBALLS keeps me motivated the whole way through class- which is saying something. I've been going consistently for about 3 months now and have noticed a significant change in my body. I have less stress/back pain and sleep better. If you're looking to improve flexibility, tone, loose weight, get happier, meet people, strengthen, breath--whatever it is, I highly recommend any of the classes here!! I started coming to the Pilates Barre classes consistently a few months ago and it has changed my body. The classes are 45-minutes to an hour and they fly by. I've never had the same class twice although they follow the same pattern, getting in legs, abs, arms, core, stretching... The instructors are super upbeat, motivating, and attentive to adjusting your form and making sure you're getting the most out of your workout. The studio is almost directly across the street from the JC Raulston Arboretum, usually plenty of street parking unless someone is getting married. It's a smaller studio, so the classes have a more intimate feel. There are cubbies to keep your belongings in, towels, water, and socks for purchase. (Oh yeah, bring socks, you don't NEED socks with sticky pads on the bottom but they are helpful and fun to have...) I'd suggest Barre for someone of any fitness level, the classes continue to be a challenge for me but if you're looking for more cardio they do have awesome Buti Yoga and Hot Core that you'll definitely feel the next day. read more

I've only been once so far on a Living Social deal. I took the Pilates/Barr class (forgot the actual name of the class.) The receptionist was very friendly. The class was intense and went by extremely quickly; it was a one hour class. The instructor (forgot her name too) was friendly, attentive and motivating. The studio was very clean and had plenty of space at the bar, just not enough mirror space as there were windows on the walls instead although it didn't create a problem for me. I'll definitely go back for more classes at least to use up my Living Social deal and probably thereafter. I'm all for an exercise class going by fast and this one certainly did! read more

Going to barre class is the coolest thing around these days, so when I saw a groupon for this studio, I decided to go for it. Julie, the owner and main instructor, is so excellent and inspirational. The studio is small, and while that may not seem desirable to some, I believe it is the best thing. Julie likes to keep the classes small so that she can help each student focus on proper form. She remembers everyones name and you really get a sense of community there! After my groupon was up, I immediately signed up for unlimited monthly. In the time I've been going, I see a change in my body weekly. First it was my arms (at the end of a full week of classes), then in the next week or two, it was my outer thighs. Not only did my body change, but I truly believe this experience was also mentally beneficial. I walked out of every class feeling confident and beautiful, and also, a little sore! After going to Barre Up for a few months now, I've updated my review to 5 stars. They've added a "Boot Camp" which combine all the normal barre movements with quick cardio intervals to help get you sweating -- a great combination and I highly recommend everyone try it if you miss that sort of thing in regular barre classes, which I did. The other thing I've learned after a few months is that barre just keeps getting harder the more you go - your form improves and you can challenge yourself in new ways that it's hard to do when you are just learning the moves. I wholeheartedly recommend that you try Liz as a teacher for your first class, she's awesome and has great energy. read more

In addition to the "Pilates meets the Barre" classes which are similar to other barre method classes like pure barre, they also offer yoga and a massage/foam roller class. Barre up has a lovely airy studio on the second floor of a warehouse-type building with nice windows that let in the natural light. I first started out with the Barre class and was hooked. I knew immediately it was for me because I never once looked at my watch or wondered "Am I done yet?" I've also done the Pilates mat class which is SO relaxing. Then I tried Buit yoga, which kicks butt (in a good way). It is easy to follow along even if you are new to yoga. Found this place on Groupon and I am so glad that I did. Studio is on the smaller side and feel more personal as opposed to larger studios. Classes are interactive and I feel are suitable for all fitness levels. Instructors are very nice and all very engaging and quick to correct form if needed. So far so good, I've only been to one class so far and it kicked my derriere exactly the way I expect/want a barre/pilates class to do. It's a small studio - one room, but I did not feel overly criwded. It is super bright in therr and they have water and towels available for everyone to use. I came early to fill out forms so i didn't have parking issues but I think there is only 3 actual parking spots and everyone else will need to park on the street. I also discussed my knee issue with the instructor before class and she put a note on my account ab my knee for other instructors to know in advance of my class - i modified as needed when moves bothered me but she said she'd avoid some moves that may bother it. I'm looking forward to more classes, esp when my knee is fully healed. read more

I have been going to gyms and fitness studios for over 20 years and Barre Up! is by far one of the best places I've ever been to. The atmosphere is welcoming, and not just from the instructors - the other students are equally as friendly. They really foster a "family" environment, knowing that everyone is there to reach the same goal - and they encourage you at your own pace and pay attention to your fitness levels and abilities to help you gain the maximum benefits from the classes they offer. They offer a wide variety of classes, and they are all challenging. You will walk out of that place knowing you've really accomplished something. The instructors are knowledgeable about the classes they teach - they didn't just read a pamphlet and take an online test to receive their certifications. I took my first ever barre class there in 2014, and I loved it so much I decided to get certified myself! I actually live about a half hour away from the studio, so I can't get over there as often as I'd like to, but I get in a class there whenever I can. Their prices are reasonable, especially considering their location. On top of all that, they have a huge community outreach presence and they give back to local charities on a regular basis. I tried the buti yoga class at Barre Up! The focus is traditional yoga moves with pulsing and dancing movements. I didn't want the workout to end because it felt like more fun than 'work'. The class was challenging but achievable. The class size was small and allowed ample room for everyone to move around. I enjoyed the upbeat music and ambiance of natural light. The teacher was welcoming and provided clear directions so that everyone could follow. I'll definitely be back to try this class out again!! read more

There is no judgment here and every level will be challenged. Julie started the business and teaches some of the classes so there is a warm, personal feel here and genuine care for the staff and clients. The classes are evolving so there are several types of yoga, barre, pilates, massage classes offered from 6am to 8pm and on weekends. It is so convenient for me and I love the classes so much that I signed up for 6 months unlimited classes.
