We were looking for outdoor dining on a beautiful Friday evening and Barrel 135's patio did not disappoint. Staff was friendly and attentive. Cocktail menu was extensive and the Blue Dahlia martini was almost too good--went down pretty fast! We had the French Onion soup and the Lobster Chowder and both were quite tasty. The spinach salad with grilled shrimp was perfect. I could eat it seven days a week. We will definitely return to sample the many options on the menu. read more

The food here was amazing. Girlfriend and I went for a date, and were very happily surprised by the quality of this restaurant. Prices are a little high, but for the quality of meal in the Billtown area, it's worth it. This restaurant serves its food very similarly to a tapas restaurant, but not quite the same. I highly recommend the "three-fer" or whatever they called it where you pay one price and get an appetizer, main course, and dessert. I very higly recommend the spicy tuna appetizer!! First time in williamsport. Stopped there on the way to dropping our daughter off at camp. Started off with a dirty 135 martini with a lemon pepper crusted glass. Great start. Had a bowl of shrimp and corn chowder and a couple of sliders; lamb and duck sausage. Really hit the spot. Dessert was an apricot wheat beer from Ithaca brewery. Daughter had a turkey club. She said it was the best sandwich ever. It was about 4 inches thick and full of light and dark meat turkey. She could be right. Its also right behind the Residence Inn where we stayed. My family and I were in town for our annual visit and decided to try a new place. We have two children 5 and 7 so we were initially concerned this might not be a good fit. We called ahead and the person on the phone was very polite and assured us they are kid friendly. I found our waitress to be customer oriented, outgoing, fun and helpful. She was knowledgeable about the menu and was patient and helpful with my wife as she is a picky eater. Ultimately she helped my wife pick a dish that the chef adapted to fit her needs. Have visited here many times. Most recently had the Kobe burger - very juicy, perfectly cooked. I would ask next time for no seasoning on the fries - it was too much and too salty. I particularly love the wine selection - not large but can ALWAYS find the perfect one. Martinis are great too The calamari and sushi are fresh and delicious and there is always a great sauce or aioli to match. LOVE this place. read more

I'm from Houston, contracting here for over 3 months, and come here 3-4 nights a week now. Ive been to most of the downtown restaurants and decided this is my favorite for dinner, although I spend time drinking here as well. The food is the best American style food in the area. The bar staff is amazing to watch for entertainment; I've watched the two tenders handle 50 people, food and drinks, easily and smoothly as though they had a full staff of 5. I will continue to come here as long as I'm in the area for the food and staff. I'm surprised that more people don't come here for dinner. Update: The chicken is one of the best I've had - I never order chicken, ever, and this was my last dinner here. I love these guys! read more

With four 5 star reviews, I couldn't help but take the afternoon and drive to Williamsport from State College. If four people gave it five stars, I was not going to miss out on this "new york" style restaurant. We arrived prepared to spend somewhat around $70 on dinner. If it was this raved about, we wanted to get everything! By the time we were finished, $26 felt like It took well over fifteen minutes to get our burgers after our appetizer was finished. During the meal, it became so cold that I had to check with the waitstaff. They realized that the heater was set down to 65 degrees, and told me I could direct the portable electric heater on the floor at myself. The service was by far the worst I can remember having. Something about the inattentive service, cold temperature in the restaurant steered me away from the seafood risotto and toward the kobe burger. I'm not glad I got the kobe burger, but certainly am glad I didn't spend $23 on one entree with the risotto.The burger, which is the first sandwhich listed, was the worst I've had. The kaiser roll it was served on was stale. Even toasted, it was awful. There is no question about this. It doesn't matter what constitutes a good roll to you--the roll makes the sandwhich. A stale roll doesn't make a good sandwhich. When I told the waitress, after hunting her down, she could honestly care less. I waited for more than 5 minutes while they toasted another roll. At this point, my burger was somewhat cold and its juice was all over my stale roll. They left me to reassemble my burger at the table. I don't like kaiser rolls, but since that was the only roll they had, I wouldn't have held it against them if it had been fresh. I ended up eating a part of my burger by itself. The meat was flavorless, and dry... and then I bit a part with flavor. The burger came with a think slice of cheese and carmelized onions. Yum. It also came with fries.. they were made in house and mixed in with sweet potatoe fries and old bay seasoning. Again, not the best homemade fries-- they were soggy and burnt in other spots, but the sweet potato pieces were absolutely delicious. Part of the problem came from the kitchen working solely on Mardi Gras prep for the upcoming weekend, as I was told by my server. There was not really enough attention to detail for this restaurant to score high in my book. The one thing this restaurant really has going for it is the atmosphere. Which is why I forsee this restaurant to turn into a fancy coffee place. Somewhere you go to hang out and grab a burger, listen to the coffeeshop xm radio station they have playing or use your iphone to order music on their electronic jukebox.The service is too slow and inattentive to be considered a good restaurant. The exposed brick wall and the paintings of marilyn monroe and paul newman hanging on the walls awaiting purchase give off a good vibe. One food highlight- the basil mayo. Sat at the bar for a business trip as I was staying in the hotel on the same block. It looked inviting and comfortable. It is a small bar with about 10-12 stools and a small intimate dining area. Great drink selection and they don't gouge you on prices. Craft beers $4 (a few can be higher) my mixed drink was a generous pour and was $4. The ladies next to me got some fancy martinis and they were made with true mixology methods with muddled ingredients, proper way to chill glass, fresh ingredients, etc... Menu is great. Unfortunately I was in there for light fare but I had the spicy tuna sushi roll which was fresh and tasty. The deviled egg appetizer was amazing and had blue cheese and bacon mixed in with the filling. A+ on the eggs. Great service. The male bartender was very attentive and had a nice disposition. While staying in Williamsport for work, I stopped here for dinner after reading the reviews and was extremely pleased. When I walked in, it was only myself and two employees who were sitting at the bar. They were both super friendly and struck up a conversation with me. I ordered a fruity monkey martini since it was a $5 happy hour special. It was a mix of pineapple, orange and lemon juice mixed in with some banana liquor. It was delicious! After ordering my entree, the bread basket was placed in front of me which held thinly sliced bread to dip into olive oil and balsamic. My entree selection was the special of the evening: lobster tail served with steamed veggies and potatoes. The lobster was fresh, well cooked and melted in my mouth. The steamed veggies were some of the best that Ive ever had with a mix of zucchini, red peppers, brussels sprouts and asparagus. To say that I was blown away at the top notch food and service would be an understatement. I cant wait to come back to Williamsport for my next dinner at Barrel 135! read more

I went to Barrel a few weeks ago and had some dinner there with my significant other. We have been here multiple times and unfortunately each time makes me not want to come back. I know that restaurants are in difficult times with covid restrictions but at the same time the service here keeps getting worse and worse. It really feels like if you are not friends with one of servers you will not get anything you need to eat. It took us asking two people to get a fork, knife and napkin to eat our food. We were sitting beside the bar and couldn't get refills on our drinks till the end of our dinner. When it comes to the food, the first couple times the food was great. But, then every other time I keep thinking why do we keep coming back here. This last time we had buffalo chicken eggrolls as an app and it was essentially eating a block of cream cheese with some ranch. For our dinner we had a chicken sandwich which was soggy and I had to take it apart to eat it because the bread was so wet. My other half got a Korean steak bowl and it was flavorless and dry. We also got a dessert of chocolate cake. The cake was dry and crumbly, would've been better off getting a slice of cake from the supermarket next door. This might be the last time that we give Barrel a try. At the end of the day, you look at the check and think to yourself, what did I just eat to spend this amount of money. read more

I was in the area for work and needed a spot to take a handful of people out to dinner. Someone I know in the area recommended Barrel 135 as he is a fan of The Brickyard (owned by the same people). The location is perfect for anyone staying in the Marriott's or Holiday Inn Express (two block walk). I can't speak for any other night of the week, but on this particular Monday night it was D-E-D dead at the bar and dining area. The exterior looked nice and there was an adequate amount of outdoor seating, unfortunately it was far too cold to enjoy on this visit. The interior was nice as well - a wide open space with exposed duct work, brick and art for sale on each wall. They specialize in martinis which two women at my table ordered (a peartini and some cucumber concoction). They seemed to think that the drinks were not good at all, but I tasted both and they seemed fine to me, though that was after a few sips of bourbon. They offered Makers Mark and Knob Creek whiskeys, so I can't complain. We started by all splitting a few orders of a scallop dish which was very good. The waiter explained that the scallops are flown in the same day they are caught. I thought "yeah right" until I tasted them - sooo tender and very high quality. We ordered a mix of entrees which everyone seemed to really enjoy. I had a nightly special of pasta with alfredo sauce and sliced filet mixed in. I found it to be pretty average. Nothing went wrong and nothing was bad: good feel, good service, good food (great app + average entree = good). The only reason I am giving it three stars instead of four is the price. Per person it averaged out to .5 appetizers, 1 entree, 1.5 drinks and the bill was $46pp before tip. In my opinion that is too much for this type of place in that particular area. I think $35-$40 would have been more in line with the qaulity+area. In Manhattan I can dine at a place that would blow the socks off of Barrel 135 for $50pp, so why would I spend that for an average meal in Williamsport, PA? I would go back to Barrel 135 the next time that I'm in the area, but I will certainly look for other options first. read more

We visited Barrel 135 while my wife and I were in town for a conference near by. We were driving down the street, and saw their signage and went, "That place looks interesting!" Boy, were we right! Started with a couple of martinis and a flatbread small plate. (They have an entire page of creative house martinis!) Lovely, crispy prosciutto, diced tomatoes, goat cheese, and balsamic glaze on a freshly baked flatbread. Enough for two people to share. The martinis were correctly made and their vodka and gin selection was well appointed. For our mains, my wife had the pan-seared duck and fig with zucchini cakes. Requested and received perfectly medium. I had an apple-bourbon glazed bone-in pork chop over smashed sweet potatoes with a side of fried Brussels sprouts. Again, my meat was correctly cooked and juicy. Dessert was a sweet martini for my wife and a piece of "Crack" pie... Aptly named, for sure. I suggested to the bartender that they have a review wall where people could write one-word reviews of this confection. I offered the first one: "DAMN!" It tasted like a mixture of sugar cream pie and crumbled sugar cookie... Very addicting, hence the name. I wish I lived closer to this place because I could see us becoming regulars. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable about their menu. I look forward to when we're back in town for business, because I need another piece of Crack pie! read more

Just passing through Williamsport and saw this on Yelp. Had to sit on the patio -- which was fine -- since a private birthday party was taking place inside. -- Very good service. -- Ordered the dirty martini which was good except for way too much of the lemon pepper seasoning. It was overpowering and messily applied, going several centimeters down the glass. -- Appetizers of the tuna nachos and firecracker shrimp were both excellent. I though the jalapeno with the tuna might be too much but it was an excellent complement. -- My friend got a the short rib and chuck burger which was fine. I ordered the cod en papillote and and it was only so, so. The veg was very overcooked and flavorless and the cod wasn't much better. It wasn't terrible but should have been better. Overall a nice experience. I would give them another shot if I wound up in Williamsport again. A note to the mgt: radio is never an acceptable option. It was too loud and since it was radio, it was full of irritating ads. This was competing with the young man singing with a guitar coming through the windows from the birthday party. The food (which was quite good) and the atmosphere were upscale, including a really attractive interior (exposed brick walls, for example). My son attends college in Williamsport, and we've been here quite a few times over the years, but never again... the food can be pretty good, & the drinks can be creative, but with prices more geared for mid-town Manhattan than WillPo. Saturday night, coming from dinner at another local place, we thought we'd stop in and have an after dinner drink on our way to the hotel... first we asked for a Grand Marnier- got the gas face from the bartender. Sambuca- blank stare- Drambuie- radio silence. He said that in X number of years that he'd been there, no one had ever asked for any of those drinks. Been here twice when traveling for work both times food was really great. They have a good selection of choices on the menu and some nice craft beers. It's a great place to go for martinis on a friday night but dining there is no longer on my list of places to go. I made reservations for my best friend's birthday dinner to be there last fall and our experience was less than desirable. Upon arrival our table was not ready even thought we were not early for our reservation. We ordered sushi to share as an appetizer between 6 of us which we never received (when I reminded the waitress she brought it out after our meals when we were all full from our main courses). To top it off we had brought my friend a ice cream cake and had the waitress place it in the kitchen for us until after dinner. The waitress proceeded to bring us our bills and send us on our way without bringing out the cake, again, I had to remind her. WOW, where do I even start. Let us start with Barrel 135's motto. "Casual Dining Done Right" is not close to what our party received. As our party entered the restaurant, the décor was typical gastropub style, which we thought was quaint especially for the location. Unfortunately, the restaurant was vacant of diners, which should have been our first indication this dinner service was not going to go well. Upon looking at the menu, we noticed the higher than average prices for the local eateries. Having not ordered any appetizers since nothing seemed appealing, we took a chance on the main entrees. Sadly, we were not impressed. One of our entrees was the Pan Roasted Stuffed Chicken Breast priced at $19.00. Well, the breast was a thigh and the stuffing was a sliver of prosciutto, which was bland. The portion was so small, I thought maybe they made a mistake and forgot half the meal in the kitchen but alas, the portion was correct...just enough to tease diners. $19.00...we think not. Maybe $9.00 would be more appropriate and that is being generous. Another entrée ordered was the Farmers Market Caprese, $9.00, which was literally swimming in basil vinaigrette; so much it looked like someone spilled the bottle on the plate. The other entrees seemed typical; nothing to brag about other than the inflated prices. The Bourbon Glazed Salmon, $24.00 was nothing but a piece of salmon and a few potatoes on the plate. Schwan's salmon meals are much better portioned and better tasting! Having had our fill of the "done right" cuisine, we received our check, which put even more bad taste in our mouths. Let us not forget, with street parking limited in downtown Williamsport, PA, Barrel 135 does not validate parking stubs so be prepared to shell out more money for a bad dining experience. Sadly, head chef Josh Aucker should take a serious look at the quality of food leaving his kitchen. Gordon Ramsey would not have been impressed and being foodies, we were not impressed either. My first venture to Barrel 135 was after the Mardi gras parade. I ordered the seafood gumbo special and the zucchini fries. The food was tasty and well seasoned, and the service was prompt and friendly. However, the zucchini fries were unevenly cut, and as a result some were a little too crunchy. They don't have a good beer selection, and the price is quite high for what they do have. I did not order a mixed drink, but I may next time- that selection seemed to be a bit more complete. Nice place, but left some room for improvement. They offer Chimay by the bottle. This has become a little more mainstream but I still like to see this. My wife and I started with the Tuna Nachos. That is an outstanding appetizer. Very nicely done. I ordered the Kobe burger, it was good, not great. My wife ordered the Beet Salad. Funny, they forgot the beets and we had to ask for them. Based on that, is it possible that you could order the Kobe burger and not receive the burger? Tip to the staff...if a title of an item includes the name of some of the ingredients, don't forget the ingredients. I do like the decor and I like the food offerings. I remarked to my wife that we'd like something like this in our hometown. We will come back if we are in the area. Way too much olive juice! For dinner I ordered poke tuna sushi role. It was a little different with fried onions on top... Different but, really good, fresh and flavorful! For dessert I ordered apple cake with salted caramel sauce (on the side) the cake was light, moist and delicious.
