Best. Burger. Of. My. Life. Really enjoyed our meal. We sat outside on the lovely patio and were able to bring our dog with us (which is a huge win already). I noticed in other reviews that burgers seems to be the thing to get. They are. I am super picky about my burgers because they have to be medium rare. They nailed the temperature and everything else. This is the only burger I have ever eaten where I did not want any condiments on it because the taste was already perfect. We drive through this area on our way to see family in MI from PA. What a gorgeous lodge! This place really feels like a warm rustic cabin in the mountains, especially when they've decked the halls for the holidays. The wood and stone work is amazing to soak in and enjoy. Of course, no lodge would be authentic without a nice big fireplace and warm flame. We came at an odd hour (3pm), during the off-season for the golf course (Dec), and a dreary rainy day to boot. So, understandably, the place was dead less a couple of regulars at the bar. This did not dampen the spirit of the wait staff. We ordered the walleye dinner and a bowl of Mac-n-cheese for the little one. Finding walleye at a restaurant is a bit of a challenge. Finding GOOD walleye is a real win. The Barrell Lodge certainly has it. Not just the entrees either. The sides were just as savory as the main dish. The Mac-n-cheese tasted made from scratch, super smooth, creamy and a light cheesy taste. Not fake or overpowering at all. We universally agreed that the fries were the best part of the meal. We really enjoyed our meals and our waitress, Ashley. She was upbeat, observant and kind. The kind of server everyone hopes to get when they go out to eat. We ordered the beef tips and the chicken parmesan. The order came out very quickly and was pleasantly hot. The beef tips came with a large serving of mashed potatoes, a side and garlic toast. My husband said it was all very good. I had the chicken parmesan. I was pleasantly surprised that it was an actual chicken breast served on top of linguine in a red sauce with garlic toast. I found the chicken to be seasoned well. I wasn't a huge fan of the red sauce, but I would order the meal again. One thing we did notice is that they had a drink menu, but there were no prices on any of the drinks. It would be nice to know what you are paying, before you order any drinks. We had a Yuengling and a Blue Moon, and they were both priced at $6. I would hate to know how much the seasonal beers and martinis would be. I'm just glad I didn't order one. My wife and I were on a visit in Virginia and on the back we spent the night in this small town. We always use Yelp and have not been steered wrong yet. My wife had Ribs and I had Chicken Parmigiana and everything was wonderful along with our waiter Adam. Adam went over and beyond for everyone in the restaurant. He did not miss a beat. We stopped here on our way to visit family and the service was outstanding. We tried the sauerkraut and corned beef balls and they were really good. I ordered the brisket sandwich and vegetables while my wife ordered the smothered chicken and vegetables. The marinade used for the chicken was perfect, tasty but not overwhelming. The mushrooms were firm and not mushy. The mixed veggies were broccoli, carrots, and squash cooked al dente. My brisket was cooked just right, juicy and tender. It came with BBQ sauce that hid the seasoning of the meat so I can't comment on that. Service 5 stars Food preparation 5 stars Food choices 4 stars. I took my son out for his birthday as his wife was out of town. I wanted to try Barrel Lodge Bar and Grill .. I have to say this was the worse meal I have had in my 87 years. I ordered Chicken Parmigian. The pasta had a very lite coating of sauce, On top was a piece of over cooked chicken with edges curled up, in the center was melted cheese & no sauce. I ate a small portion, told the waitress I wasn't happy, she said she was sorry. I told her again, she came back and said she gave me 10% off my meal ($1.80). My son had the walleye dinner which he said was just ok. Oh, my small salad had lettuce, a little red onion, shredded cheese, and croutons, No other vegetables. I told the waitress the food was garbage and we won't be back .I posted my complaint on Facebook. 8/12/25 I received a message from the owner. He apologized and will refund my money. Apparently the waitress was new and didn't relate my complaints to Management. I will give them another try some time in the future as many of my friends stated their food was really good. read more

Thank goodness our server, Adam was great and very upbeat and attentive. He tried not to make us feel rushed. Thank goodness we didn't order dessert because the hostess came up just as I finished my meal and told us the next party was here and they needed the table. I still had wine in my glass and perhaps they would have boxed our desserts had we ordered them. In addition our table for seven consisted of two tables in an L shape which was very awkward and made conversation difficult. I gave them a 3 because of Adam. Not anxious to return. They were busy with several golfers coming off the course for dinner. After a few minutes I had a server ask me for drink order. I chose a local IPA that was good. Also had to try the perch dinner. We really enjoyed the walleye plate that has replaced the perch on the regular menu. We sat at the stand up tables in the bar area. The bartender was also our waitress and she was swamped with drink orders for the entire restaurant that was very busy. Despite feeling neglected, she was friendly and nice. Nice place with decent food. Attached to a golf course but still enjoyable and has the ambiance of a stand a lone restaurant. We ordered the potato skins and boulder burger with fries. The potato skins were the average frozen kind you find at every restaurant... nothing special and not exactly "right out of the oven" temperature (they were a little cold). The fries were the same, on the colder side... and seasoned to high heaven with a salty seasoning which tasted like lowrys... The burger was really really good. The pork on top of a juicy burger was enjoyable and correctly cooked. Lastly, check your bill as they secretly add a credit card fee if 3-4%... I was going to pay cash but used a card after I saw this as I didn't want to make a big deal of it at the time... I think the restaurant would be better served by increasing prices by a nickel versus sneaking this fee in. Btw: our server was super nice and attentive. read more

This was an unexpectedly great pick. The outside ambiance was the perfect place to grab lunch. The pace of service initially concerned me because there was one server running her tail off. The restaurant wasn't packed but I thought for sure, the service was going to be sluggish. But it wasn't at all! Our lunch items came out quickly and were delish. The server was attentive and could see we were thirsty so she brought an entire pitcher of water to our table instead of having to refill our cups every time she walked by. The food is way too expensive for what it is. The waitress was nice enough. Typical bar and grille in the sticks of ohio. My girlfriends food was cold, and instead of refiring it they literally took the plate back in the kitchen microwaved it. I paid 16$ for a small piece of chicken and a few mushrooms on it. The chicken was over cooked, and lacked flavor! The waitress said the meals come with a side, so we got sides, and they charged us for the sides. 4 dollars for a cup of soda, that was mainly ice, and the same price for a little kids cup. Just recently ate here for my one year anniversary with my girlfriend, never been here before or even heard of it. The restaurant is small but nice, and has a pretty nice little ambiance to it, and it was clean. The food was absolutely amazing though. Like seriously good. I had the lemon butter salmon and my girlfriend had the chicken paprika thingy that had the dumplings, chicken and sauce in it with some garlic bread and holy smokes, I was blown away. I'm not gonna lie I usually don't leave reviews at places unless it's genuinely good and this place was awesome. Their bruschetta flatbread pizza is absolutely out of this world!!!! We were looking forward to our visit after reading all the positive reviews.... Either we went on a "bad night," or our standards don't see eye to eye with previous visitors. Food was marginal at best. The Chopped Salad was anything but a chopped salad.... pretty much the house salad with a few toppings and the fried chicken topper was dry and bland. Burger was over cooked and the chopped bbq pork topper was burnt . Cheese Curd app was average but the marinara was tasty. Beer was cold and the establishment appeared clean and organized. Service was unobtrusive.... bordering on non-existent. All-in-all.... I'd return to drink beer on the patio or after a round of golf. read more
