decided to check out a bbq spot while visiting knoxville. barrelhouse could be a little more promising, it just depends on the vibes you're looking for. i will start off by saying enjoyed the outside area. we were visiting for a basketball tournament and our girls were able to hang out and play games outside together. and the patio space is a very decent size. what i really didn't care for so much, you walk in. you really don't know if you get seated or seat yourself or whatever the care may have been. no one really assisted us in that sense. but ultimately, you walk up to the bar, grab a menu and order your food. cool. i started off with a marg and ordered the smoked turkey meal with fried brussels and mac & cheese. the turkey and fried Brussels were pretty good. the mac & cheese, not so much. not sure if this is a place i would come back to if ever visiting Knoxville again, but it wasn't too bad overall. read more

Came here for Father's Day, I wasn't really sure what to expect because we had kids with us. Which was absolutely not a problem. We got there around 11:30 and there was plenty of seating and also claw machines that our son instantly gravitated towards. My husband had really wanted to try this place because he had heard from some work friends that it was one of the best if not the best place for Bbq in Knoxville. I have to admit after tasting it, it is definitely up there. It was very good. We got a few things among us to try. First off we're the pit monster rolls, egg rolls stuffed with pork and brisket and served with cheese sauce. They were so good. Vegetarian's nightmare, but delicious. The meat was tender the grill part was crispy and the cheese was gooey and melty deliciousness. We also got the smoked brisket Big Dipper, think french dip but so much better with the brisket. It came with a side so I got the fried okra which were hot and good flavor. We also got the two meat plate with pulled pork and brisket with fried and potato salad. My husband really liked it and inhaled most of it before he remember we're were going to share the two entrees to try more things. Our 9 year old got the burger which he really liked. We also did cider flight which the ciders were really good they had great flavors. Overall, it's a really fun place to come and check out. The food is really good and the ciders are tasty. Not bad for families, but I would bring them earlier in the day and then have a date night or a chill night with friends here in the evening. It's worth checking out. read more

My homegirl and I were passing through on the way to GA and wanted some good TN BBQ. The reviews were high and it was beginning to storm so it was a welcomed stop. The restaurant is very spacious and we felt very welcomed with my homegirl having her small dog with her. We ordered a cider and a 2 meat platter each. We even got to try the ciders before making a decision. And baby, everything was delicious!! I had the peach cobbler cider, the brisket and smoked Turkey platter with cole slaw and baked beans as my sides. Being someone who doesn't eat pork, I was pleased with everything I ate. Food was great but portions were small. I had potato skins that I think were $14 and there were only 4 small potato skins. Service was poor!!! We had a large group and thought we would have a server but ended up having to all get up from the table and go to the bar to order food and drinks every time. Stopped in here on a quick trip to Knoxville after golf. Was able to sample quite a few beers and ended up having a sour. We also had lunch here. There are daily specials for under $10 so be sure to check and ask what the special is for that particular day! Hal was such a great bartender and so informative. She was absolutely so patient, because we were sitting at the bar and heard some of the ridiculous questions that some of the patrons that were coming in we're asking. She's really outstanding! There is outside seating and plenty of inside seating. There are comedy shows and bands on the weekend so be sure to look up the events calendar. Would definitely return back here if in the area. I grabbed a bottle and some cans do take home. Had a couple apps - rolls and bombs and both were great. They also have their own in house sauces that were really great. The drinks are 5 star so I will focus only on the food offerings. We ordered two meals and it was a mixed bag. Food is up fairly quickly. The brisket was dry and very chewy, it had been sitting there a long time before it reached us, the ribs were spot on. in both cases these are smaller portions. The fried okra was superb but the potato salad was watery and tasted old, the coleslaw was dry and tasteless. Presentation is good, just not the quality of the meal for this price point. The BBQ caddy has two sauces, neither one is labeled since the bottle labels are so worn. Waitstaff are very very good and there is plenty of parking outside. The one bartender I had just vanished, she didn't even tell the beer I wanted was not on special... After I clearly mentioned which one it was... The prices here are insane for quality, the American lager is the worst tasting beer ever. What do I mean by that you ask?! Well, I would say Milwaukee's best, Pabst Blue, hell even 211 taste better. Also, the higher gravity beers are overpriced by volume for sure. This must be a common practice for most hipster bars now. I really loved this brewery! The ambiance was great. When we first pulled up we heard an amazing voice singing jazz and I knew it was going to be a great experience. The outdoor area was really nice. They are also very dog friendly and had a bunch of dog bowls available to make sure the dogs stay hydrated. The server even gave my dog cold water from the inside when the bowl got warm which was so nice. The beer and food was top notch. We got a couple seasonal ciders and I got the dill wings. Brisket was actually pretty good with great smoke flavor and great bark, just a touch dry but I did ask for a lean cut and that it pretty typical for a lean cut. Not bad for Tennessee at all. It was set up like a holiday popup bar as well which is always a plus for me. Ambiance is fun. read more

Yes, people were there but it wasn't busy enough to explain the service or wait times. The excuse for everything was that they had an event the previous day. I get it, but also you need to plan better or close the next day to recover. They were out of many food items. I had a burger that took 45 minutes to get to me. The person I was there with had received and ate their food before mine ever came. The burger wasn't even good. I was recommended okra as a side but they must have just been trying to push what they had because the okra was gross. I had the key lime pie mead and it was fine. The guys in the kitchen refused to serve us 45 minutes before the kitchen closed and an hour before the restaurant closed.

The Bartender was Rude. We sat and Waited for over an hour before we asked if she knew how much longer it was going to be, she brushed us off an ignored us for a while. Eventually we had to give up and go someplace else. We never got our food. I understand that we came in after a large wave of people but to be treated in that way and I could tell she was behaving the same way with other people, was completely unacceptable. Overall, the experience was terrible. The food was bad. I ordered the pork which was so dry and almost impossible to chew. The food was poorly seasoned. The service was terrible. Our server stated, "I'm just a bartender, not a server." You are expected to seat yourself and there is no sign stating to do so. The "cornbread" was like gnawing on drywall, no flavor, so dry it turns into a powder in your mouth. The drinks were awful. I paid $30 for a terrible meal. I would not recommend this place.
