We didn't end up buying anything here so my review will be lacking BUT this place was adorable and sometimes it's nice to visit candy shops that make you nostalgic just to look at! Very cute, I enjoyed the setup with all the barrels, and while this town seems to be a little overcrowded with various candy shops, had to take pictures of this one :)

Yep - lots and lots of Candy

Normally this is not the sort of place we would drive out of our way for. So why do we? Because it is the best source for my husband to stock up on authentic Dutch Drop. You know, the strong, salty black licorice. It's an ethnic thing. The store is also a great source for old-fashioned hard candies like Horehound, Sassafras and Lemon Drops. Staff have always been pleasant and helpful.

Not the cheapest candy store but you're in a tourist trap town so it's expected. The staff has always been nice every time I've visited and I appreciate having a place to satisfy my sweet tooth at in town.

Wow. I have to say, I was taken aback by the blatant lack of empathy of the business owner. It's 2020 and as Americans, we are more aware and compassionate to those suffering from mental health issues.

Such a happy place with barrels full of colorful old fashioned candies. The black and white floor tiles and barrels were so inviting that we had to stop in and look around. We ended up buying locally made ice creams.

Compared to any other candy store I've been in around CA (Lafayette, Petaluma, Monterey) this is by far the most expensive. The overpriced, stale bag of candy was a disappointment bite after bite. My mother-in-law's variety of taffy flavors were all sub-par, and she said they tasted old and left a bad taste in her mouth. $2.25 for a small travel-size pouch of Hot Tamales? The movie theater has better deals than that. If you are in Virginia City and need something sweet, perhaps a fresh donut or ice cream is the better choice. Who knows how accurately they can rotate the old candy out of these giant bins?!

Wow, lots of candies! So fun! Some candies are surprisingly expensive! It's definitely a tourist trap but still fun to walk around and pick some old favorite candies to take home. Staffs were kinda slow, maybe it was the heat or Labor Day weekend crowd. Worth checking it out for sure, especially if you have sweet tooth like it do!

One of the coolest things I have ever seen. They really do have BARRELS of candy. Maybe 50+ barrels of everything. They feature one of the largest taffy selections that I have ever experienced. In fact I'm willing to bet I was just as excited about walking through here as my kids were. The staff pretty much leaves you alone and let's you roam about. When you first enter the store you grab a bucket and go from one delicious barrel to the next. Once your done they weigh all of the taffy and bam there's your price. They also feature a lot of the old classics like the bubble gum box of smokes, and dots. If you want the fancy stuff they sell truffles in the back.

This place has so much taffy in barrels, all kinds of different flavors. The selection of nostalgic candy, the stuff you had when you were a kid but have not seen for years, is here. I have seen better selection in other stores, but I did score some Chick-o-sticks and some Mary Jane's. They provide you with a basket, so be careful. Pretty much all candy is weighed. Do not listen to your stomach and that little voice on your s Boulder saying you pretty much need one of everything. Use restraint. Set a timer on your phone, get in and get out, or you will find yourself wondering, why did I buy five Doo good clusters.

Just one section of this delightful candy store!

Everything we bought was old, stale and hard. Absolutely the worst candy and not worth the price.

$13/lb. I'll pass and buy some prime rib. Not to mention the lady at the register wasn't friendly either.

We came for breakfast and we had a very simple order. It consisted of a breakfast burrito, Gold Latte, a coffee and a lemon poppy seed muffin. It shouldn't be too hard to fulfill this order right? Wrong! My breakfast burrito and Gold Latte came out first. The burrito was good and the Gold Latte was also tasty. The woman that dropped off my order asked if we had anything else coming. I told her we had ordered a lemon poppy seed muffin. She never came back. Another woman came over with a muffin but it was blueberry. Wrong again. At this point, we decided to skip the muffin and I requested my money back since I was getting frustrated. No apology either for not being able to get the order right. I love supporting a women owned business but I just found it hard to understand how a simple order could confuse so many people. Perhaps there is an issue between the front of the house and the kitchen?? Maybe it was an off day but it did not seem that way.

I observed during our visit just what a wonderful boss lady she is. Leading with a soft voice and a steadfastness of kindness and concern for all her employees. I noted parting words to her staff outside manning the ice cream cart to "be sure you stay hydrated" I thought, how sweet! Annekes "Darling Bakery" has a treasure trove of various goodies. The obvious bakery items are gorgeous. Her sourdough bread is entirely sourdough. No added yeast. Giant point for me. As I've recently discovered, some of our great sourdough establishments have small, tiny signs that state, added yeast. Anneke "Darling Bakery" offers Some yummy sandwiches and I had the pastrami. It was delicious! The bread was cut to the perfect slice. Not too thick, not too thin. While here, the girls were walking around with a variety of local sourced ice cream samples. Yum! I loved the T-Shirt Anneke was wearing so had to buy one. Support local Bakers & Farmers is a beautiful graphic in the back. I'll wear it proudly. I noticed they have a chest freezer full of locally sourced beef product and while perusing the choice cuts found beef fat, the kind used for making Tallow. Had to have it and now I have a project ahead of me. Looking forward to it! The whole operation is full of charm, talent, creativity and deliciousness! Looking forward to next visit'

I feel a bit bad saying this but honest reviews are what make Yelp feel trustworthy so I gotta say…read moreI wasn't all that impressed. The pastries we tried were light and flaky on the outside but weren't consistently light throughout the whole pastry like other popular bakeries in Reno we've tried. And perhaps it's my personal tastes but these just weren't as sweet-- which if you like things more mildly sweet this might actually be your speed. It was a bit of a drive to get out here and while it was visually exciting inside I felt a bit rushed (even though there was no one behind us). It would have been nice if the employees could have proactively described the pastries to us because I think it was pretty apparent that we were first time visitors with our "ooos" and "ahhs" as we entered. I also asked about a few of the drinks and was encouraged to try the horchata frappe. I didn't taste any coffee in it and again it stuck with the theme of mildly sweet. I have to admit I was not a fan of the texture, something about the high cinnamon and blended ice volume almost made it feel like I was drinking wet sand. I would not order that again. We also asked for a cup of water but were never given one (perhaps they forgot?). In short, I'm not against trying Anneke's one more time if I'm out that way (maybe a cinnamon roll would be more to my sweet tooth preferences and I could try a different coffee) but my experience this time was a 3 out of a 5. The patio outside wasn't bad. The shade was nice on a hot morning and the flowers on the table were a nice touch so I'd say the ambiance was good. Some soft playing music could have been a nice touch.

Although the bakery and deli are connected to the casino next door, you don't hear casino noise inside the restaurant. However, when the casino door opens, cigarette smoke can drift into the dining area. Also, the restrooms are located through the casino. The food was delicious, the portions were generous, and the prices were very reasonable. They also offer specialty coffees, Italian sodas, and an impressive selection of desserts, making it hard to leave without a treat! The restaurant is charmingly decorated and has a cozy feel.
